ganjavih December 20th, 2002, 04:15 PM That's like saying I wonder what Chicago would look like without the Sears Tower. Yeah, it would look a lot different!
breezyboy69 December 21st, 2002, 04:23 AM i like the toronto skyline (and the city of toronto in general)...if i was going to NA, toronto would be one of the first places i would visit. 8/10
ryanr December 21st, 2002, 04:34 PM Best skyline in Canada!! 8.5/10!!
SteelCity32 December 21st, 2002, 09:12 PM it looks good at night. wow. Toronto with the CN Tower is awsome.10/10
Rainier Meadows December 21st, 2002, 09:39 PM This was my favorite skyline long ago before I saw all angles - but due to it's jawdropping CN Tower and it's dense CBD it earns a 9/10.............
Jan December 21st, 2002, 10:18 PM The TO city center is real compact yet extremely urban. I like that. That alone gives it a 8/10, but the CN tower add's one point to that. :)
Steely Dan December 23rd, 2002, 08:15 PM toronto is currently a 9/10
however, with the vast amount amount of tall buildings on the horizon, it could be moving to 10 status by the end of the decade. toronto, in terms of its skyline, has just about everything you need (and the incredibly iconic CN tower really vaults this one above some of the other NA players), except it's a bit lacking in height. that will be changing though.
currently: 9/10
future: 10/10
ganjavih December 23rd, 2002, 08:17 PM Toronto's skyline will be incredible once Trump, Cityplace, etc. are built.
X-seed 4000 December 23rd, 2002, 11:32 PM Pro: Good density and height.
Con: Too boxy.
Overall: 8.0/10
KGB December 25th, 2002, 12:29 AM I actually like the early modern look of midtown...some very fine examples, as this was a desireble apartment living area of the day. Some nice 20's and 30's apartment buildings as well.
KGB
SUNNI December 25th, 2002, 01:54 AM these pics are really nice...
nice skyline, but not to alls taste
luis4083 December 26th, 2002, 05:05 AM canada's skyscrapers is very different from it's asian counterparts. most of the buildings are rectangular (boxy)
therefore each building is not easy to recognize 'coz most of them are almost with the same look and shape.... very simple.
however the city as a whole is beautiful, especially at night...a typical american skyline................
parody24 January 4th, 2003, 11:32 AM I give Toronto a 9/10.
It's got great height, plenty of density. I think it's one of the
better skylines after the big 3.
Duff January 10th, 2003, 09:18 PM its got enough height, and good placement, but i think the buildings are a bit boring
8
baqthier January 11th, 2003, 12:40 AM 8/10
Pablo January 18th, 2003, 07:03 AM 7/10 quite a nice city;)
medevil_kenivel January 20th, 2003, 06:28 AM 9/10
its the best one i ever seen with my own eyes.
MeReK January 21st, 2003, 10:14 AM Boxes...Boxes...Boxes...and an Arrow among them...Very common skyline...:(
xgokhan January 22nd, 2003, 03:41 AM Honestly, I'd have given it an 8, but Builder made this one personal. 0/10. Sorry guys, I really like Toronto but somebody better put Builder back on a leash.
Hacksaw January 22nd, 2003, 03:59 AM I used to like Toronto but what Builder said for Istanbul is pretty mean.
1/10
Seems like I am not the only one!
xgokhan January 22nd, 2003, 06:45 AM Hey, no need to get so ugly, I think when you look at the following pic he has a point:
http://www.ensc.sfu.ca/coop/stories/Toronto.jpg
And he mentioned an arrow as the CN Tower, can you read? Let's not get so rude here.
SeeMacau January 22nd, 2003, 01:20 PM Toronto has the best skyline and it has the most skyscrapers city in Canada
I will vote for 10/10 definitely
tayser January 23rd, 2003, 01:17 PM <table cellpadding=4 cellspacing=0 width=98% class="quoteBox">

They think because they have one building that doesn't look like one it makes them spectacular. If I were to give 1/10 to every city that had a forumer that spoke out against dumb comments, then not one city on this board would get anything but that. That includes Melbourne and Chicago.</td></tr>

LOL well said.
after all isn't the "box" or "rectangle" the primary shape of more than 90% of the world's skyscrapers ?
it's a real A-DUH thing to say a city is full of boxes, so generalised, and so "UMMM DER - no shit sherlock!".
nevertheless, even though this is still quite generalised, a better way of describing Toronto's take on the skyscraper box that's guaranteed to pop up in many many MANY cities around the world, is Toronto has a lot of prominant Internationalist slabs (cant think of the proper way to describe it, that's just a local Aussie term, which is probably also used elsewhere).
Scotia Plaza is a classic modern errr for lack of a better word, "box" - it's a warped rectangle with vertical steps and extra features (the upside down triangle indentation up the top), like so many of the 80's / 90's scrapers here in Melbourne, the primary shape is of a rectangle, but with lots of extra "add-ons" or "features" per say.
anyhow, I've ranted in a agreement with you enough (also was an attempt to spark an intelligent conversation in the hope that no other moron blindly names Toronto - box city or some other profanity).
...well that's just how I look upon so many skyscrapers globally!
cheers!

ganjavih January 23rd, 2003, 08:27 PM Personally, I agree with the observation that Toronto's skyline is too boxy... especially when you compare it to the gold standards, NY and Chicago. I hope that the Trump tower will add a bit of variety with its spire.
cntower January 23rd, 2003, 11:56 PM If it's boxy so what; it's still a pretty damn good skyline. Not a 10/10 but certainly NOT a 1/10.
I don't really understand the hatred towards Toronto from everywhere. We have Ottawa, where people will beat you up if you have a Leafs jersey on! Then we have Western Canada who hate us because of..well I don't really know! And who could forget Montreal, which have been our rivals since the beggining the creation of Canada! Welcome to the list Skyscraper forumers; you are officailly ranked forth!
Boxy? Is that why you gave it a 1/10? Man if it's that bad give Detroit a -100/10. But seriuosly on a good note T.O doesn't deserve a 1/10 in my honest to god opinion! ;)
:bash:
Wu-Gambino January 24th, 2003, 04:35 AM 8.5/10
Maybe a 9.5, if the build that 1,000 ft.
BGT January 25th, 2003, 01:04 AM 9.5  I love that dense area by CN Tower.
djcody January 30th, 2003, 04:09 AM I love Tayser's shots of Toronto! ---> 9.0
Muse February 2nd, 2003, 03:05 PM Nice conservative, stylish office buildings. Downtown pretty dense too.
Not a huge fan of observation towers (CN or Sydney's Centrepoint either), so 9.
DrJoe February 3rd, 2003, 02:22 AM I absolutely love Toronto's skyline. One of the best the world has to offer in my opinion.

SD February 4th, 2003, 11:15 PM Wow, Im pretty surprised. I wasn't expecting so many 9/10s. But then I remembered this isn't SSP.com, people seem to be more optimistic/open. Doesn't really seem to be any trolls here either. Well run.
For me...8.5/10. I think it's definetely one of the best in the world. I think the boxiness if focused on far too much - look at any city in NA and you'll find tons of boxes (LA, Houston, etc.). I also find it odd when people say "Take out the CN Tower and SkyDome and it's nothing special.". That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. You could say that about any city in the world in regards to their landmark buildings.
Anyways, with all the projects on the horizon and currently U/C (esp. CityPlace) I think Toronto's skyline will be changing more dramatically than any city in NA over the next 10 years. Should be incredible.
dweezy February 7th, 2003, 01:10 AM Canada's best, 9.5/10

CtrlAltDel February 10th, 2003, 03:37 AM I don't think any city deserves a 1/10.
mystad February 11th, 2003, 05:57 PM One of my favorite NA skylines. Although, without CN and the Skydome it would be only average.
Philly Guy February 16th, 2003, 04:15 AM 9.......Man I love this city. One of the better skylines of the world in my opinion:cool: :D
DrumCorpsAlum February 26th, 2003, 05:43 PM Unique skyline unlike any other. The skydome next to the CN tower is really cool. Dense too. 9/10.
Evergrey April 7th, 2003, 05:54 AM Impressive density and height. But the buildings are too bland. Boxes Boxes Boxes. Not very attractive to look at. And I'm not a fan of things like the CN Tower. 6/10 Still a fantastic city though.
Monkey April 7th, 2003, 09:26 AM Come on, folks. The subject here is Toronto's skyline, which is a given. People are judging by the photos presented at the beginning of the thread. This is not about the price of a cuppa on another continent, nor about conceivable needed or unneede facelifts. :)
coldstar April 9th, 2003, 10:25 PM Toronto is one of the most disappointing cities for me.
As for skyline, Vancouver and Montreal are much more impressive.
Toronto has just a few of uninteresting scrapers !You'd better not confuse Toronto with Chicago ! 6/10 at best:D
israeli slider April 9th, 2003, 10:39 PM oh... Toronto:love:... have no words, one of my favorites! 9.5
Deventer Up April 10th, 2003, 02:42 PM Lovely. 8,5. Only a little boxy.
Deventer Up April 11th, 2003, 01:08 PM Toronto looks a nice city life in.

SD July 28th, 2003, 08:45 PM Here is a pic of how Toronto's skyline should look in 2010 once CityPlace and some othe projects are complete...it doesn't include quite a few projects like the Festival Tower (500+ ft.).

I love Toronto
jhjyc2 September 18th, 2003, 12:06 AM 1/10 tiny...sucks shit its that crap is nothing...
spazpecker September 18th, 2003, 01:13 AM I rate it 8/10- about 12th on my list.
A tall, powerful and dense downtown with lots of inner city skyscraper clusters sorrounding it which makes the place look very big.
However much of the existing ( not new) architecture isn't endearing to my eye and downtown is just too densly packed to fully appreciate those 900+ footers and the raw number of other office/apartment buildings.
As such it doesn't inspire me like cities such as the nearby Seattle and Chicago which have the gift of a balanced skyline with some great looking keystone scrapers.
However the newer projects and the construction on the 'other' side of CN tower will work toward resolving my issues !!
johnrosstaiwan December 5th, 2003, 08:26 PM 6/10 not really that impressive. Surprised to see Canada has such large cities.

bohemian|senses April 3rd, 2004, 02:21 PM Toronto is such kick ass place!!! I love the city, the environment, the skyline, even the numerous boxes! Along with Vancouver and Montreal, being the largest of the great Canadian three makes it a fascinating and beautiful place. I always have the best time when I'm there!
I have a couple of issues though. I visit this city quite often and never have I met such arrogant, unpleasant and irritating people as the representatives from Toronto in these forums. It is well known in Canada that Torontonians are sooo full of themselves, but that has never been apparent to me when visiting this great city, however it is more than evident on these forums...quite annoying. Also, another little thing, or rather large thing (Torontonians will hate me for this, but oh well): I hate the CN tower. It's the most penis compensating thing I have ever seen, it's even phallic too! :D Toronto is already one of the coolest cities in the world, it doesn't need that huge, pointy, penis-looking thing to make it a great place...of course it adds to the coolness factor though...so I guess it can stay! :D
10/10
mattlatter April 12th, 2004, 08:10 AM I love Toronto , its the nicest skyline I've ever seen! Fuck all those ppl that voted less then 3/10! Toronto is not to boxy its perfect. I live on vancouver island (Western canada) and I can't wait to move to Toronto. I would live in Toronto anyday. I would pick toronto (or any canadian city) over andy american city anyday, b/c canada is a lot safer then america will ever be. And who gives a fuck if the population isnt that big? Wouldnt u rather be in a city that is not crowded and hard to get around, or a city that is crowded and annoying? Anyways toronto is the best, as of ever canadian city. How can you compare it to such citys as New York? New York is a lot bigger. Neways, thats my opinion, i dont give a shit what u think, gotta problem IM me on msn messenger, mattlatter_69@hotmail.com
and what is the URL address for SSP.com?

Beautiful. The CN tower perfectly compliments the other skyscrapers. It also seems just the right size - not too big not too small.
usernames suck August 19th, 2004, 10:36 PM presently I'd have to give it an 8 out of 10, maybe a 9 or 9.5 when all the major progects are completed (cityplace, trump, etc.). i happen to like the north american style boxy buildings ( excluding the ugly plain grey ones). The cn tower's skypod I think is still the tallest man made observation deck. you'd have to be pretty foolish to rate it anything lower than a 4, I mean its right up their with L.A, N.Y., and chicago as north america's greatest.

Monkey October 31st, 2004, 11:08 PM I would definitely put Toronto's skyline in my Top Ten.
The CN Tower is one of the most amazing structures in the world.
9/10
Jaybird November 5th, 2004, 04:12 AM Definitely worth a 9 or 10, for its skyline ONLY. It has a kickass amazing skyline, but a HORRIBLE city (IMO).
Shion Uzuki November 10th, 2004, 05:04 AM 9.5. (Note: I am working on a straight 10 point scale, so no 11 pts etc) :D
Cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai, and NYC takes 10. Their skyline is much more impressive than that of Toronto's. And yes, I am a Torontoian, but I still have to admit that.
The general skyline planning is not that good. They sorta spoiled the harbour fronts imo (with residential stuff)... could have been better. Nevertheless, its not a normal plain skyline like other cities... probablt because of the Skydoom and the CN Tower! :)
rushn November 14th, 2004, 02:22 AM One of my 3 fave skylines (along with Seattle and Sydney), just looks amazing ... 10/10
sean storm November 19th, 2004, 02:26 AM i was just in toronto and got to experience the city and the skyline for the second time.
i generally like the skyline. the financial district cluster is dense and i don't mind the boxiness of it. i've always believed that bland is always better than tacky. there is obviously a lot of new development going on in downtown so the skyline would only improve over time.
however, i don't like the drop-off in height with anything north of adelaide street. when viewed from east/west, the skyline almost appears to stop after first canadian/scotia plaza, even though we know it continues north for miles. toronto would also benefit from having more focal towers in the bloor st area as there are really no landmarks or architectural highlights outside the FiDi. the majority of toronto's skyline outside the financial core consists of drab, pseudo-commie-style residentials. toronto's skyline would be more impressive overall i think if they continued to build-up the density around the financial district to create more of a mountain-range effect. i suppose cityplace and all those new condo towers near CN tower would help, although there would still be a gap with the railyards.
nevertheless, the best skyline in canada. 8.5

canada_habs2004 November 24th, 2004, 06:02 AM Toronto at night! There's no way you can find a better city to be in by dark. Especially in the winter, its just so unbeatable
tall_american November 27th, 2004, 04:47 AM torontos skyline is overated, its not as great as you canadians build it up to be. other than that one cluster (which is soo boxy) and the tower, there isnt much to be impressed about.
STLSportsFan4 December 5th, 2004, 06:24 AM Toronto is fucking awesome... Is it mainly english there? Or mostly French or what?

beh0123 January 11th, 2005, 01:15 AM One of my favorite cities. it is a big fat 10
i_am_hydrogen January 13th, 2005, 11:19 AM 8/10 - Toronto has a very tight central cluster of buildings. It also has a good variety of architectural styles. A lot of people in this thread criticize it for being too "boxy." I still don't quite know what that means, either. For me, boxy isn't a bad thing. Melbourne's skyline, for example, is pretty boxy but it's unbelievably beautiful. Chicago's Loop skyline is also boxy, and I love it. Unfortunately, however, in terms of Canadian skylines, I think Vancouver prevails over Toronto. Toronto is still an amazing city, though.
MiniAppleMania January 21st, 2005, 12:09 AM It's a really nice skyline -- but for a financial capital and the largest city in the country, it looks too small. Then again, it might just be the CN Tower skewing things... 8/10.
Boris550 January 21st, 2005, 02:25 AM 9.5/10
My only beef with Toronto's skyline is that the CN tower shrinks the rest of it. I personally think that TO's skyline looks much better without the CN tower. Not as recognizable, but more impressive nonetheless.
Dark Element January 24th, 2005, 08:01 AM 8.5......nice height, but not very creative.

ROYU January 27th, 2005, 04:33 AM Toronto is my favorite city green , clean , save and it have a great skyline. 10.0
Peter The Great January 28th, 2005, 06:34 AM I'd give Toronto a 9 if 95% of the concrete shit to the North and on the waterfront (basically around the core) were destroyed. Because those hideous blocks do exist, they pollute the skyline, especially in the winter time...and thus I lower its mark to a 7.5

Dawson March 29th, 2005, 11:55 AM "Toronto The Good!"
As a clean and progressive 5th largest North American city with a cold and uninviting climate to contend with, Toronto is a densely populated lively city.
With all the cold Canadian climate Toronto puts up with, it deserves a 10/10 especially how lively it can be in the middle of winter.
Any Asian city can look much more lively and 'open' beacuse they always have the perfect climate. Toronto does amazingly well for the stuff it has to contend with. The CN Tower and boxy buildings doesnt speak anything for the amazingly friendly, cultured, and multicultural utopia that is Toronto.
Toronto So Sexy!!

The CN Tower adds a lot to the vote, and demarcates it from the rest
dave8721 May 20th, 2005, 05:22 PM 7.5 -I would probably give it an 8.5 or a 9 if the CN tower were removed. I guess its one of those love it or hate it structures.
Skybean May 21st, 2005, 03:55 AM Different angle-- not so great IMO as you can't see everything. Simcoe Place (Bank of America) is puny in comparison to the talls of the Canadian Banks yet looks so much larger in these pics. Might look better a few years with the Ritz.
Enjoy.

canada_habs2004 August 18th, 2005, 05:39 AM In terms of density, Toronto's skyline is so heavily underated. Most people only picture Toronto skyline as that tall cluster of tall buildings.
Then they compare Toronto to cities like Houston, and say they are similar because of a dense core.
In North America, I'd say Chicago, New York, and Toronto are in a different league than the rest of the continent, even if New York and Chicago have bigger skylines.

next to Chicago in the skyline department. For one, too many of the tall
