View Full Version : Subway to Sherway? rick1016 January 22nd, 2005, 07:22 AM Hey all, I have heard that there thinking about extending the Kipling subway line to Sherway Gardens Mall, is this true? Does anyone know whats going to happen? Thanks, Rick TRZ January 22nd, 2005, 07:29 AM It is true that it was considered years ago. Since then it has been abandoned, saying the bus usage is not high enough to justify it. Filip January 22nd, 2005, 07:30 AM That would've been interesting, Sherway would've become a busy station (as any station built underneath a very busy mall). Too bad it was abandoned. Homer J. Simpson January 22nd, 2005, 07:38 AM It would be a very legit move to make as it would have a ripple effect on the area around it. If the Sherway stn was built and all done, it would become the hub for all buses that normally link Mississauga to Islington stn. This would greatly relieve the conjestion of traffic along that mess of Dundas St. W. and Bloor. It would also make trip time from MT to the subway alot faster and more seemless. With all that said, the York U. extention, completion of the Sheppard line and construction of the Eglington line are more more pressing issues at this time. SD January 22nd, 2005, 09:23 AM I think the Eglinton line is the first priority, or should be, anyways. The other ones can wait till that one is finished since they don't really have the density anyways. rick1016 January 22nd, 2005, 08:38 PM True, the Eglington line is probably first priority, but it's a real shame that this idea was abandoned. It would be so handy to have the Kipling line extended to Sherway. (and I'm not just saying that because I live in Mississauga, close to Sherway LOL). There are tons of people that think it would be an awesome plan. Congestion would be a concern, I agree. But, don't forget, Sherway Gardens Mall was recently worked on, and a few new roads and the Sherway ramp off the 427 was also worked on. Homer J. Roch5220 January 23rd, 2005, 05:51 AM They would have done it (as it would have gone to SQ1) if Hazel would have foot her share of the bill. Wait, subway to 905, wheres Are Be? Although restarting the Eglington subway would be great, my guess is that the subway to Square 1 will be more of a reality. alexs January 23rd, 2005, 10:50 AM I think the Eglinton line is the first priority, or should be, anyways. Completion of Sheppard line is a first priority - just because without eastward extension this line is a complete waste of money DanfromTO January 24th, 2005, 03:54 PM I agree that the sheppard line would be a waste of money if they dont attach it to the allen expwy line but i believe that the Eglinton subway should have been completed instead of the sheppard line. This is because it is more dense, and if you've ever taken the bus on route 32, the busses are all from the 70s and 80s and the line would have been completed by now if they had not stopped it in the 90s. I too am sort of biased because i live near eglinton, but i still think that any wayyou look @ it, Eglinton deserves a subway line. And if they ever do decide to build it, it should go from like leslie, to the air port, or @least keele Are Be January 24th, 2005, 04:40 PM If you want to finish off Sheppard, you need to take the Spadina line up to Highway 7. Then there will be government support for taking Sheppard from Downsview to Scraboroguh Town Centre. We need to take the TTC to 905 --- same with the Bloor line-- if you're going to go to Sherway, take it at least 2 stops into Mississauga. There are a couple of paid for rights- of - way already. (Too screwball European to make use of what's paid for, I know.) |
