View Full Version : L.A.'s restaurant scene. Post your favorite one(s).
GYRO January 22nd, 2005, 11:02 PM Post your favorite restaurants/eateries that you've been to or admire for several reasons:
the architecture
setting
price
close proximity to your home or place of employment
location near entertainment areas, plazas, parks, and other venues
a combination of any of the above
any other reasons?
Your restaurant can include all types of eating establishments (i.e.: fast food, by reservation only, bar/grills, chains found only in Southern California, California, or the West Coast...etc.). Also, if possible, include the type of food and beverages that are serve at these establishments.

PHXbevo January 23rd, 2005, 12:30 AM Koi is still my favorite whenever i visit. Pricey, but the Spicy Tuna on crispy rice is fantastic. If you go, be sure to sit on the patio.
Chateau is still my favorite place for before/after dinner drinks.
My favorite "comfort food" place is definately Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles -- i like the 'Scoes special with one breast and two waffles. I've been to the one in Hollywood and the one in LA, and i prefer the LA location. Go there every time the day i leave LA for breakfast.
benji45 January 23rd, 2005, 02:05 AM The Zebra Lounge! My Sister works there.
LosAngelesSportsFan January 23rd, 2005, 04:22 AM two of my favorite high class (once a year things) are WaterGrill and Spago (the tasters menu is fantastic). phillips BBQ in leimert park has the best ribs int he damn country, i love that place.
GYRO February 10th, 2005, 08:50 PM Common L.A., is this all the places you can think of?
squeemu February 10th, 2005, 09:15 PM Is the Pig & Whistle any good? I almost ate there last time I was at the Egyptian, but I ran out of time.
POLA February 10th, 2005, 09:58 PM Pig & Whistle is ok. Musso & Franks much better and has lots of historical value. Of course no LA list is complete with out In-n-Out (the only fast food place I know of that has a top place on Zagats). As I stated before another amzing burger place is Applepan on the westside. In Hollywood, where I am, I like Birds. And another classic is Henry's Tacos at the corner of moorpark and tajunga (sp?) great food and price to boot.
LosAngelesSportsFan February 10th, 2005, 11:30 PM Zankou Chicken is awesome! Also, Rambutan Thai in silver lake had great thai food and Don Cuco has very good mexican food. The architecture is nice both at Rambutan (modern) and Don Cuco (Historic spanish looking). The prices are very good for the food portions at all three places, and the Spicy Shrimp Burrito at Don Cuco is off the hook. If you go to Rambutan Thai, you should try as many things as possible, splitting it between friends so you can sample everything. At Zankou, The Chicken sandwhich and the Tarna (Chicken) Sandwhich are great, as is the Shawerma (beef) and everything else they have.
Jacek February 10th, 2005, 11:37 PM My favourite is Warehouse Restaurant in Marina del Rey, awesome landscaping, heated patio, marina view. My second choice is Wolfgang Puck in El Segundo (good martinis and seafood).
My favourite fast food place is Rubio's Baja Grill. Cheap and tasty lobster burritos + cold Coronas = perfect meal.

savvysearch February 12th, 2005, 04:29 AM Din Tai Fung dumpling house has the most amazing taiwanese style dumplings. They only have one location in the US. Of course, too many great Japanese resturants to name.
LAuniverse February 12th, 2005, 12:42 PM LA probably has the greatest number of foreign dining franchises in the nation, and most of them are exclusive to LA. Ding Tai Fung, and a number of other japanese, korean, chinese franchinese can only be found in LA and Asia.
