It's a brilliant bridge.
If anyone has more information on it just post it and I will add it to the original post.

Here are the bridges in a flight simulator.
They are not exactly the same, but you can see their correct postions with Rosyth Royal Dockyard in the backround.

I just wonder what it will look like if they create another bridge to go over the forth. What kind of bridge do u think they should build? I think that it should just be another suspension bridge but one with a modern design.

it was built by sir william arrol & co ltd.
lets not forget the contractor!

The Bridge was completed in 1890. Thats 115 years ago.

Absolute marvel of engineering - at its time the greatest modern man made structure on Earth.

The structure is so strong you could hang the entire Forth Road bridge underneath it and it would not give way.

The Forth Road bridge is an impressive structure in its own right - 1.5 miles long.

But it looks so much cooler because of the Rail Bridge next to it.

I'm convinced that the two bridges standing side by side is the most dramatic Bridge scene on Earth - if there is a more impressive site than these two behemoths then I would love to see it!

i made the pilgrammage to see this bridge in person back in january. i got to ride the train over it and everything. it is truly a breath-taking sight, and it is certainly the coolest looking bridge in the world. the golden gate might be more beautiful, but i just love the bad-ass robustness of the forth rail bridge so much more. it's so strong, and tough, and masculine. this is a powerful bridge that does NOT fuck around.

best bridge ever!

Ahhh :) I get to cross both of those bridges on a weekly basis - they are only about 10 minutes away from where I live  - the Rail bridge is without doubt the world's finest bridge. The sheer scale of the bridge is breath-taking, and its stature is so strong and aggressive - I love i!

The Road bridge is being strengthened just now as engineers have predicted it may only have about 10 years left before becoming unsafe. This is due to the fact the the Road bridge now carries more than 20 times the amount of traffic it was designed to carry!

New plans are being drawn up as I type this to design a new Road Bridge - its location has already been chosen.

So, with any luck we could see one of the widest Suspension (possibly Cable-Stayed) bridges in the world being constructed within the next 10 years or so, although it could be longer...

Will post some new Images of the Rail Bridge soon - got some crackers for you :)

ma fav cantilevered bridge! it waz the first major structure in the world to be built entirely of steel.. right? and when it waz opened in 1890, William Morris described it as "the supremest specimen of all ugliness." well i guess he waz wrong.. it is a masterpiece of engineering and architecture :okay:

Great stuff. One of my favorite bridges.

Structurally, perhaps as great as the Eiffel tower in Paris.
