View Full Version : What's the best location for an architect to work in?
chenlu January 23rd, 2005, 06:37 AM Where would be the best place for me to work in?
I live in Canada right now.
I only know english and a bit of french. I'm planning on learning another language soon.
My Dad have classmates from his engineering class in China that became multimillionaires by building and contracting skyscrapers. I ate dinner with this guy who have his personal driver and all. Also heard of this classmate who died from his extravegant lifestyle. But that was probobaly because it was one of the first graduating class after the 10 years revolt of China.
Anyways, what place do you think would demand the most architects in about 8 years from now?
29A January 23rd, 2005, 11:33 AM Hey Chenlu,
Nice thread started here!!
Well, I think with the building SUPERBOOM in china, it is obviously the best place for architects to work.
However, India is also a HOT new place. You should see our new boomtowns like Gurgaon, and u know what i am talking abt. Besides, in Mumbai, there are literally hundreds of new highrises coming up, apart from a 120 storey WTC which may be built.
Delhi, Noida, Chennai, Hyderabad are some of the very fast developing towns. So to cut a long story short, here is how i see it:-
1.China(atlest for the next 20 years)
2.India
3.rest of asian countries
I hope this thread realy gets going..Do come to our india section..
PS:- my fav chinese city - Shenzhen
Jan January 24th, 2005, 10:24 AM Rich architects aren't rich because the are excellent architects, above all they are businessman. You have to know how to sell your design.
29A January 25th, 2005, 04:11 PM Exactly.
most buildings are not very good i think, but still such highrises get constructed!. My father is also an architect, but he does not believe in all this commercial BS, and does not like those who murder the profession this way.
However business is business!. I personally think that an architect should work where there is a construction boom
MCarr January 25th, 2005, 04:22 PM One tip, the architect doesnt get all his income just from selling his design, theres a lot from comissions as well and if you have a full agenda of contacts then you just happen to be number one in the process.

Where are you from if I may ask?

India seems like a very promising place of opportunities for an architect, specially rehabilitation as India has such a long and rich history to tell in the future.

elfreako February 1st, 2005, 10:19 AM If you want to sell your soul to the devil and get rich, head for the Gulf. Forget about design integrity; property developers don't give a rat's arse about that, they just want to make as much profit as they can. The architecture business these days is 5% design and 95% business. And yes, I'm an architecture grad.
I also agree that India will be booming like China is now in a decade or so. Libya is now coming back into the fold, now that sanctions have been lifted, and investment there is booming - all those nouveau riche will need their shopping malls and Arabia-lands pretty soon!
Candy February 27th, 2005, 07:49 PM One tip: DON'T GO TO DENMARK... only like 1/20 students around here get a job... Asia is the key...
