Since the Diamond of Istanbul is the first skyscraper in Istanbul to have a steel skeleton, all other structures in Istanbul probably have their skeletons made of concrete.

Because of its the first steel one, conctruction is slow. No experience

If the construction on this tower is slow, then they probably don't have enough steel beams.

According some locals they have enough.
BTW. conctruction was stopped between april and June. (something with the city etc)

Diamond of Istanbul detected as the small brother of the mighty Burj Dubai, with that triangular shape... why not? Except for the steel floorplates instead of concrete.:)

The Diamond of Istanbul is reported to be on hold, so I don't know when construction will resume on this tower. It needs to be completed by 2010.

the news on a turkish newspaper today says it is on hold (link provided below)... its ridicilous for it to be held at that height, like i go past it nearly every day..bigger than those buildings surrounding it allready :ohno:

^^ Yeah, it's going to be Istanbul's and Turkey's tallest building. But there are more and much more taller projects coming up and DoI's construction isn't really fast.

nope. The tallest is Sapphire Istanbul currently (261m) and another one, a new 450m project next to Galatasaray's new stadium has been proposed some days ago. The owner of the plot talked about a project of 450m but he didn't publish any renderings yet.

Sapphire is tallest, but DOI can be the tallest when it is finished.
IMO DTI (300m) and Agaoglu (450m) will start within 2-3 years.

Abu Dhabi Group wants to built a supertall on the current Ali Sami Yen Stadion in Mecidiyeköy.

DOI has got many problems. It not a normal project like Sapphire. Sapphire was topped out within 2 years.

24 floors should be well over 64 meters. I don't understand why they started without permission. :dunno:

Thats what nobody is understanding.
Its a very unorganized project. They had so many proposals. Height was increased everytime (200-> 238-> 258->270m)

Really the big contrast to Sapphire.

Beautiful modern design. A fine trophy for Istambul. I'm it will be completed if they got this far.

It is ITU ( Istanbul Technical University) Ayazağa station.. It is a new station and test drives continue 6 hours a day.. It will be fully open in August..

Its sad to see this buildings works have been stopped. This building supposed to be one of the beautiful skyscrapers in the world when its finnishes. I know the company have no money problems but no one knows whats the problem is.

Diamond of Istanbul is a “Y” shaped, 270-meter high-rise, mixed-use building which will be the tallest in Turkey. The tower contains office space, residential apartments, and a luxury hotel, with parking and a retail mall at the podium and eight levels below grade.

It is situated about 24 kilometers (15 miles) north of the Main Marmara fault, part of the North Anatolian fault system, a 1,500 kilometer (930-mile) fault zone through the Sea of Marmara and east into Turkey. Our seismic design work on Diamond of Istanbul began in 2005 with conventional code-based design of the tower and surrounding podium and deep basement. In addition, we completed a nonlinear time history (NLTH) analysis in recognition of Diamond of Istanbul’s height, slenderness, unusual geometry and seismically active location.

The building structure is made up of a concrete core with steel perimeter moment frames. A recent decision to build a higher tower required us to embark on a second phase of performance-based design.

Why they changed the design, its bit strange.

But it is still cool !!

Yes, let's hope that more construction will follow the presentation of the redesign soon.

Now the tower's icon and trademark shall be seen from all over the city. To me, this looks a bit gaudy, not as elegant as in the old design. And I also prefer the way Dubai's diamond tower (Almas Tower (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=341341&page=58)) has used the gem topic primarily at the podium instead of the top.

BTW the reason why construction is so slow is that they had to change the basement floors.
city wanted more car parks (they added a public car parking)

Totally agree about it being gaudy, but at least the "diamond" seems to be semi-obscured at the top. No one's commented about the color change. Liked the sea-green better as well...but then I suppose that was due to the diamond being added. Not too many green diamonds in the world I guess...
