The relocation of five Templar buildings slated for preservation along Tel Aviv's Kaplan St. has begun The buildings are the remains of the 19th century Sharona colony. The buildings are being moved as part of the widening of Kaplan St. for the south Ministry of Defense headquarters (the Kirya) compound project. The one-year relocation will cost NIS 30 million.
In the first stage of the relocation, basements are being dug under the buildings, which are simultaneously being strengthened to ensure their survival during the digging. In the second stage, to begin in two months, tracks will laid under the buildings, and they will be moved to their new location, 200 meters away.
The relocation of the Templar buildings is part of the preservation of 40 buildings in the Sharona colony. The buildings will be renovated and used for public purposes, restaurants, galleries, and the like.
Solel Boneh Building and Infrastructure (TASE: SOLB) and Dutch company Mamoth are carrying out the widening of Kaplan St. and the preservation of the Sharona colony. Mamoth is experienced in moving buildings slated for preservation.
