Friends, thats okay... sometimes you get nasty (and lousy so to say) neighbour in your neighbourhood ;) s/he's just not happy that KL has many more taller buildings in the downtown. But seriously there's nothing we can do to make him feel happy about not having enough talls in his beloved downtown. :dunno: Lousy ppl are quick to find lousiness in others ;)

I give 8.5/10 for Kuala Lumpur. The skyline is getting denser and denser.
And the cluster of skyscrapers is well organized.

just went to KL last weekend and I was very impressed with KLLC. The only problems I had was that the trains are jampacked during rush hour and the lack of integration of tickets for different lines. Oh and the area around China town is a bit dirty, too (but this is ok, every china town in every country is not really tidy, except probably Singapore). But overall I had a great time! By the way, the fisball noodle at the central market is really nice. hehehe

kampung baru is part of KL history. i'm defending that area not because i'm residing there, nor i have relative in kg. baru. but think again...what KL will get by destroying those charming wooden house(not all)?...visitors come to Kl to see its culture, not those soulless and dull buildings!!! think again...why westerners prefer Thailand than Malaysia?...raptorsuperb, it is not malaysia, but MALAYSIANs are lousy!

11/10...if possible...not because i'm malaysian but KL gonna be the capital city of a fully-developed country in 2020(hopefully...)
the skyscapers at that time will become very-very dense...believe me....

It's okay to be bitchy and rude, we all can deal with that BUT being such a close neighbour and INSULTING your neighbour is totally uncalled for but then again...who cares.

Actually it doesn't matter where one comes from.......I wouldn't wanna say bad things about other country. I knew many from our neighbouring countries whom love KL a lot so I would love to give them treats and bring them around and to show em what Malaysia is really like. To those whom are nasty and have nothing better to say......well........one of the reason perhaps that why they dislike Malaysia/Malaysians is because they failed to make friends in the first place. If I have friends from other cities, I would surely love those cities more as I would have learned more about the place and its people ;)

Be serious

Who ever heard of Kuala Lumpur before the Petronas was built? Virtually no one.
I am one of those people who voted 3 or less. No joke here. I am DEAD SERIOUS. Every time I see the Petronas, I'm filled with disgust, utter disgust.

HELL o !!! why u hatee so much about The Patronas Twin Towers. i tell you what!!! Sears Tower looks like a old black building with no peoples in it!!! Black is not good colour 4 a skyscraper.

Without Petronas - 8.0
Five years from now - 10! Just like HK

Everyone's right, hope they can build taller buildings around or near Petronas to form a beautiful cluster.

KL with PETRONAS === Superb..
KL without PETRONAS == nothing (no offense)
KL without KL Tower == super-nothing (no offense)
KL without tropical sensation == super-duper-nothing.
But, KL residents should thank to Petronas, petronas, petronas, petronas, petronas, and petronas. And then thanks to KL tower and its tropical sensation..

Btw, guys.. Petronas kinda dominating the skyline. I dont like the major difference of height between Petronas and nearby. I think, you should build another supertall close with Petronas, In order to beautify this area and it will make a good mix btw.

But, I think as a tropical city, it is not good to build the dense skline. Rite now, KL is doin' good job. DOnt be "OFF-track" like Makati or BKK....

Bein' small sklyline is okay for KL (compare to JKT, Makati, or BKK). But, better make it well-organized and well-planed..

8.5 i dont like the KL tower, or other observation towers messin wit da big boys (skyscrapers). it doesnt look good imo. Petronas looks like the king of KL with the other skyscrapers as princes, princesses and slaves.:D

:) I am really agree wit u. But, I have a lil bit different point of view btw. To me, Petronas is kinda "giant" king. THis made another skyscrappers looks a lot like "tiny" slaves. Just my humble-mumble 20 cents opinion. Adding more trees is the good thing from KL skyline.

HAPPY NEW YEAR MALAYSIA!: Dazzling fireworks lighting up the
sky around the KLCC area in Kuala Lumpur to usher in the New Year at the
stroke of midnight yesterday. — GLENN GUAN/ The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: Although official countdown parties were not held due to Hari Raya Aidiladha, tens of thousands of Malaysians ushered in the New Year on a boisterous note at various venues here and in Petaling Jaya.

KLCC was packed with thousands of people, including foreign workers, despite there not being any party or concert organised. At midnight, they were treated to a grand six-minute fireworks display.

Nearby Bintang Walk in the Golden Triangle area of the federal capital was packed with tens of thousands of revellers for the New Year street party.

Although Dataran Merdeka, where an official countdown event would normally be held, was dark and silent, around 1,000 people – families as well as young people – milled around on the field.

They did not leave until after the clock at the Sultan Abdul Samad Building's clock tower had chimed 12 times.

A magnificent 15-minute pyrotechnic show took place at Genting Highlands, where revellers were waiting to greet the New Year.

In the early part of the evening, the crowd was treated to cultural shows, dances and a concert by local Canto pop band Midnight Riders.

Roads in the vicinity of The Curve in Mutiara Damansara in Petaling Jaya were closed to traffic for a street party attended by a large crowd.

At nearby Bandar Utama, thousands were entertained by Australian boy band North, Taiwanese singer Jenie Chuo, Singaporean Apple Hong and others. The event started as early as 6.30pm.

At the stroke of midnight, a splendid 10-minute display of fireworks lit the sky.

In Penang, thousands thronged Gurney Drive to witness the release of balloons after the midnight countdown.

The celebrations kicked off at noon with crowds visiting game booths and picking up freebies. There was also a food fair, concerts and other activities.

just curious, do ya own one of those 'authentic' Davinci apartments? and the other thing, architecture alone and all the flahsy condos...be in it Jakarta or KL...is NOTa measure to how great a city is...public transportations, ammenities, public space, landscape and quality of life is more important than anything else. Jakarta has a great skyline, I apologize for fellow forumers that underestimate Jakarta. You can't really compare which city is better than the other, both Jakarta and KL are sisters and we are neighbours and I think both cities are great and special in their own way...and KL do have other focal points apart from Petronas twins, visit KL and you'll see it with your own eyes...and enjoy the similarities that both city has, asian charm but best part is we could manage to speak in one language. If tourists want to look at traditional houses , then go to Melaka or visit rumah panjang in Sarawaklah !

Likewise, KL as a capital of Malaysia, is only one part of the Klang Valley, which is the central urban corridor which is still probably much smaller than Metro Manila (Makati, Pasig, Manila, Quezon etc) in terms of land area and population. However, this thread is only to rate the skyline of Kuala Lumpur, which only represents the capital territory and not other "cities" in the central area (PJ, Subang, Shah Alam, Klang, Putrajaya etc). ;)

It is true that with or without Petronas, KL is still relatively taller than other cities in the region. In fact, without Petronas, the crown still goes to the Menara Telekom in KL in terms of height. But of course, instead of showing the suburbs, many of us show the best that we have, i.e. the CBD skyline, still most of the time the CBD is too big to show in one panoramic view so Petronas is being shown time & time again as it is the most prominent and that area is the CBD within the CBD. Let me post some suburban skyline pics of KL Federal Territory ;) But of course, ppl normally don't rate the burbs.

Ampang/Cheras (note: Part of Ampang & Cheras belong to KL while others belong to Selangor)

yes designed by a local firm called Hijjas Kasturi...one of the best skyscraper in KL. Awesome.

A unique feature of the tower is its 22 open skygardens alternating every three floors. The office floors are separated into north and south wings served by express double-deck elevators. There's even a helipad up there!

Truly awesome. Rated it at 9.5. I reserve the remaining 0.5 for the incoming more developments and highrises since KL has still a lot of room and potential for it.

Been to KL many times and every time I come it always gives me the longing to come back again. KL is just so fntastic especially in actuality. got lots of things to offer. I love the halal foods aside from being more affordable.

What I really like about KL is that it is as modern as any other top metropolis of the world but it has able to maintained its Malaysian/asian identity as reflected even in its architecture.

Will visit KL again soon...InshAllah

WHAT!? you must be joking or not in the right state of mind. Even for whatever standard its going to be based, KL or Malaysia as a whole definitely wont deserve such a low and bashing comment.

Been visiting Singapore and KL at least twice a year and I both love the places. They offer different but complemeting thrills of experiences.

Singapore may be the norm of urbanity but Malaysia has both the modernity of urban living intertwined with relaxing rural setting.

SALAM bro...actaully this is kinda expected from people who are ill-minded, jealous, greedy and who have little knowledge about things. I am pretty sure most of his/her coutrymen wont share same view.

From flickr.com

The KL Tower is a 421m high telecommunications and broadcasting tower which actually appears to be taller than the Petronas Towers, because it is built on Bukit Nanas (Pineapple Hill). Amidst the city of Kuala Lumpur stands the Menara Kuala Lumpur at 515m above sea level.

The heart of the city.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital city 45 minutes away from the new administrative city Putrajaya..

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/2/9klpanorama.jpg

Malaysian economy kept growing steadily last years...In Kuala Lumpur, I think ppl are trying to keep the city as green as possible...like preserving the oldest rain forest(Bukit Nanas) inside the city, some city parks, and lake gardens...they got not much space left apart from KP Baru.
So Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, etc are the prodcuts of careful urban moving and replanning programme...not too far from Kuala Lumpur. Putrajaya, unlike purpuse-planned adminstrative cities in USA, Australia, or Brazil..Putrajaya is a city itself and surbub ciy of Kuala Lumpur or a twin capital cities feeding each others. Maybe due to a small country as malaysia is in term of size and population...

u gotta be kidding, we dun look at a city skyline juz bcause of a tower, but we look at it as a whole.

PTT is already a part of KL soul and in fact the most important identity to KL as it creates contexts for the current and future skyline of KL.
From what u'd said, i think u disregarded PTT and instead of that, looking at KL without PTT. This is certainly one of the funniest things that i've seen.

hey, dude, with or without PTT, 4.5 is way way way way way too low for a megacity like KL with futuristic skyline. The skyline may not be as dense as that of HK, but still it is one of the best Asia.

im sorry, in my opinion many people recognize malaysia just because petronas twin tower..nothing else

you may imagine, if KL do not has a petronas tower, the city is just like other citys in this world.

then should we rate/vote jakarta without wisma 46 or the peak ??

As far as my observation is concern, I think it is not appropriate to contest which city is the best and worst. I think every city has it's own uniqueness. We cannot say KL is futuristic than Jakarta or Manila is better than KL or vice-versa or whatsoever. At this time development, everywhere is contesting to have a good or best city skylines, but no matter it was planned and put the best futuristic skylines like what China is doing right now, we cannot say, this will be the best in the world. Try to look all the Ismalic country, one example is KL, I agree they have some good futuristic structures but try to look the totality of it's designs, more on Ismalic way since most of Islamic countries have the same concept in their designs, you cannot deny that. Even in Jakarta, Dubai and Qatar, they depict same concept of development. That's why if you say KL is more westernize concept than Manila, that is unacceptable coz Manila is more westernized in terms concept implementations than any Ismalic country. This is what I mean, and Manila cannot compete the style in KL or Jakarta coz their moderness depict Ismalic identity. Now how could we say this one country is better than others since this comparisons have different cultures. LIke China and those oriental nations, for sure they dipict the oriental concept of designs whether it is modern or classical.

Siapa kata dalam Petronas Towers kosong? the tower is 70% filled with offices of various companies. Among them are:

1) Al Jazeera
2) ESPN Sports Center Malaysia
3) Petronas subsidiaries of course

Some prominent corporate names such as Bloomberg Asia, Microsoft Malaysia, Reuters Asia, Shell Global exploration, The Boeing Company, G.E., US, PCCB, TATA, UBS, Veritas, Asia Telecom, Baclays Capital, Conoco Philips, IBM, Hua Wei Technologies, Foundation for the Future, Keppel, Lucent Technologies, Mc Kinsey, Mitsubishi Japan etc..filled up the long list of its tenant directory at the entrance. .I was quite surprise the Khazanah National Berhad was here too. Further, KLCC properties management companies are mostly situated here (as well as their IT/Web company, IPerintis Sdn. Bhd.).

We cant compare Kuala Lumpur with Manila or Jakarta. These two cities are really big..have more than 7 million population. But, my opinion, if we compare these 3 capital, KL is the cleanest.

Usually interpretation how you would base this comments still fall whether it is Islamic or western ambiance. This is the problem with all us asians, we try to be proud so much of what we show but the truth we cannot deny we are just a copycat of all this to western and america. I am not a pro america amd even then I try to twist the situations and cannot accept because of my pride, I still cannot resist that we are just following the influence of western trend. Why I said so, who among us who do first, they are the first who developed and implement this concept to the whole world. Who among asian countries do not copy all this idea. Even China, they seems to have very modern and creative design applications, but the truth if you really look the origins, all this come from western brains. If we say minimalist, this glass skycrapers and what so ever coming out this modern trends, this are very long concept in america and europe. Even those new concepted skyscrapers, it was been long designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. For my opinion we must be happy that we have this development at this time, but to say we are so much proud of coz as we think that we are only the one who have it, I dont think so, we are all behind 20 years from them. And no matter how we strive hard even China doing now, they are not stagnant that we can surpass them. If you see in the you tube how those architectural firms who compete in the redevelopment of 3 big cities in America, 100 years from now, you will find out how advance their thinking compare to us. I am not downing us asian but as far as I can see, we cannot do anything more than them, it seems whether we like or not we cannot resist to be a copy cat of western influence with regards to designs, fashions, entertainment, sports and technology. For what we are doing now, is just upgrading only the original concepts and claimed it was done by us. Anyway, since it is request, KL is 8.50 for me, strive more for metropolis look......

ha ha.....funny when people try to give their blunt honest opinion. We were ticked off easily.

I love KL very much. I guess when our friend, "inside_us" told Petronas was empty or people know KL due the twin towers, we shouldn't be mad or defensive. Maybe true from hearsay and lack of research or outdated info and data, they thought Petronas is still empty without knowing some of the top firms have their offices here. And THEY ARE NOT EMPTY!!!

"KL is a bit more famous due to the twin towers", again another remarks form our Indo friend,Inside_us. For me, the towers do put KL on the world map. After spending billions of ringgit, they better be. That is the attraction to KL, to see the tower, then they know KL is much more than that. They haven't got a clue how Petronas Towers directly or indirect affects our economy, tourism etc,.

"KL is flat". Quite true. We dont have the luxury of cash like Dubai or Shanghai or Beijing or HK to put several more supertalls. Maybe not yet. We may not need another supertall right now. Much more important thing to do with the money (improve public transports, public amenities, roads, highways, public housings...the list goes on)

"Overrrated"- even funnier. I guess there are just a lot of KL lovers around here. Not too big. Not too small. The city centre, the suburbs, the malls, the parks, the gardens. KL is just nice.

KL do have pros and cons. The twin towers do dominate the skyline. At least for me it give KL the CENTREPOINT...not that we ever need it. Many spots around KL could be the Centrepoint. Menara maybank, merdeka square, bukit bintang....etc.

My two cents.

i think, all of you has wrong to judge me like that, i think no problemo if i say that PETRONAS is the only one the best buildings that malaysian's have. and i say many people so familiar with malaysia just bcause petronas. wanna prove ? just go to other country around this world...and ask them " what do you know about malaysia ?" i think the answer is " malaysia have petronas twin tower" do im right ? nothing else, and some of you maybe agree w/ me

i know, all of you so proude with that, and im not jealous with that. for what ? but why all of you angry to me when i say that malaysia is not so spesial for me and also in the eyes of some medan people malaysia is nothing. but if you really sure, that malaysia is the best and the cleanest country in asia. its ok, coz that is your country.

and i think is good for you malaysian's user here for acceptable if some people from other country give some critic . you must be proude some people outside there still care to your country like me :D

^^ Guys it's his opinion to say that about KL. We should just all respect it because there is nothing wrong on what he said... It's not like he said that Kuala Lumpur is an ugly city. He just said that maybe without the PTT, KL would just be another normal city. Unfortunately, I have to agree with that. But in reality, the PTT is already there, soaring. People have different opinions, thought and feelings. Just respecting his/her judgment is the best way to treat the situation.
Okay, now let's all be friends and be happy!

er...we also have KL Tower and Menara Telekom,3rd tallest in SEA behind PT1&2.now,i know you will say it's an empty tower again because it's very typical for a lazy people like to do some basic research.

Menara Telekom (or Menara TM) is the headquarters of Telekom Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.Menara Telekom also houses several well-known tenants, namely DaimlerChrysler, Hapag-Lloyd, Unilever, Henkel Malaysia, Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad, Takaful Nasional and the IT Department of Tenaga Nasional.

i do not like to compare my country w/ other even i know my country so famous in this world
