Inside_us had given the reasons about KL and I respect his opinion. I disagreed what he said in his very first post, but after his explaination, I found that he has his point. As we know, Malaysia is a democratic country and we as Malaysian are willing to accept the praise and critics, especially from our neighbours. it's okay for him to like Manila more than KL, we have nothing to lose. And they dont have much to gain. Favorites is something very relative. He must have his own reason. We cant force him to like our city. Let's just let him decide which city is on his favourite list. Maybe he likes a city that is big, but full of beggars and dirty roads and inefficient management. (well i'm not mentioning any, nor having any intention to help you identify one, so please dont misunderstood me)

I love KL very much. I guess when our friend, "inside_us" told Petronas was empty or people know KL due the twin towers, we shouldn't be mad or defensive. Maybe true from hearsay and lack of research or outdated info and data, they thought Petronas is still empty without knowing some of the top firms have their offices here. And THEY ARE NOT EMPTY!!!

"KL is a bit more famous due to the twin towers", again another remarks form our Indo friend,Inside_us. For me, the towers do put KL on the world map. After spending billions of ringgit, they better be. That is the attraction to KL, to see the tower, then they know KL is much more than that. They haven't got a clue how Petronas Towers directly or indirect affects our economy, tourism etc,.

"KL is flat". Quite true. We dont have the luxury of cash like Dubai or Shanghai or Beijing or HK to put several more supertalls. Maybe not yet. We may not need another supertall right now. Much more important thing to do with the money (improve public transports, public amenities, roads, highways, public housings...the list goes on)

"Overrrated"- even funnier. I guess there are just a lot of KL lovers around here. Not too big. Not too small. The city centre, the suburbs, the malls, the parks, the gardens. KL is just nice.

KL do have pros and cons. The twin towers do dominate the skyline. At least for me it give KL the CENTREPOINT...not that we ever need it. Many spots around KL could be the Centrepoint. Menara maybank, merdeka square, bukit bintang....etc.

No doubt KL is a very nice city. Besides PTT, I must say that KL still has a few buildings that are really iconic or architecturally interesting!

The skyline is great and will be better in years to come. I've seen plans to develop the CBD area into a "canyon of supertall".

There're many more vacant land around the city... that means more and more opportunities for KL to improve its skyline. Not now, maybe a decade from now. KL certainly has a very bright future.

We Malaysians should be proud that we have a world's landmark right here at our doorstep - the PTT.

In fact from my dealings with my Australian friends here in Brisbane, most of them do not know much about Malaysia. Thus it was difficult for Me to explain where I came from. But they finally understood when I said that I lived near the PTT, the world's (ex) tallest building (they don't even know it was already overtaken by T101). The PTT must have been the most recognized "thing" from our country.

I do respect everyone's opinion on KL. Good, bad or very bad. We Malaysians need to accept some criticsm as well. Give others a chance to say what they personally think of our city, not just wanting praises and 10/10 from them. Afterall I believe every city in the world has good and bad sides as well. I also believe that feedbacks or critics can always motivate us to achieve for the betterment.

KL does have only one world famous building - PTT. All Malaysians are proud of it.

Now ask some ordinary boys and girls anywhere in the world who knows nothing about skyscrapers (I think most people in the streets dont know much about tall buildings, I mean who cares?) to name a few famous tall buildings / highrises in South-east Asia (ASEAN region only excluding Hong Kong and China).

What building will they think of first?

actually that's normal anyway - it happens everywhere. it just like when people talk about London's skyline "ooh! Swiss Re!" or HK. "ooh! Bank of China" etc. and this is normal : when people say "KL is a normal city without PTT" or "NYC is nothing without Empire State!" etc.
KL's skyline will be an OK (not excellent) as another cities such as Jakarta or Mumbai without PTT (because what I think KL's skyline is beautiful is that 2 Petronas Towers that 'roaring' from the 100m buildings).

I was being exaggerated because he is just trying to create a war between malaysia forum and indo forum, and this makes me use the "native" words since he claimed himself as indo native.

The Pentronas Towers are amazing. So is the airport.

I found the KL Tower, apart from its height, to be tacky and rundown.

I spent 4 days in this city last year; so boring. Nothing going on at street level. Bland.

Boring to you but it does not stop millions of tourists pouring into the city this year :banana: .

I dun agree that you say there's nothing going on in the streets?There are clubs/discos along Bintang Walk, cafes(local and internationals) and literally everywhere, KLCC park,lake garden, amusement parks(at Times Square and Sunway Lagoon),museums and big cinemas(Malaysia's ultimate form of entertainment:lol: ):) . For something local, there are always the night markets,flea markets and local eateries:) .You should agrer the hot climate made most entertainment in KL indoors.

I ave been to Melbourne 3 times and I seem to feel KL basically has anything Melbourne has, and certainly better in terms of night life and street life compared to Adelaide where I am currently studying.:)My 2 sen.

This town really doesn't fit if you look at the bigger picture; the nature around it, the suburbs etc. The commercial area is too high... I mean, there's no transition between suburbs and tall sturctures.

I totally disagree with you...the 'nature' makes Kuala Lumpur special and true gem in the forest, the rolling demographics of KL makes the city exciting at every vantage point, KL is not another flat forest of bricks and glass with little greens. KL has a lot of satellite cities and self contained townships but throughout the years, KL has expanded rapidly and they all sorta merged..even ctaching up with new township of Putrajaya. KL is definitely different and totally a city in a garden!

8/10...not too dense enough though I love the buildings

I respect your opinion but quite disagree with you. Most of the bulidings are quite boxy I must agree but they're not just plain boxes with no architectural integrity. I look at it more clean cut and safe, not quite adventurous...better than tacky tho. Some new developments under constructions are quite spectacular, check them out 'neighbour'.

I think this is the first time ever I hear that KL skyscrapers are 'retro' :D

I think it was a polite way of saying...'old style'...

Hahahaha... KL will look like mini Jakarta if we didn't have KLCC and the KL Tower, and if we have a super straight highway cutting across the city with huge buildings lining up along it like soldiers... :lol:

In other words, yes, Indonesia is like Malaysia's big brother, but no, KL is no mini Jakarta. Both cities are unique in their own ways. :)

The only problem with KL is the lack of tall buildings near the Petronas Towers, can't wait to see the four seasons beside it, other than that it looks impressive in panoramas. KL deserves to be the best skyline in S.E. asia

KL is renowned for its futuristic tag and anything contrary to this will bring bad image to tourists. I bring many visitors every year and they are shocked to see many rundown buildings in KL !

The twins look great -even now! otherwise mediocre as far as Asian cities are concerned.

mediocre? as far as asian cities are concerned? Hmm...sorry you felt that way buddy, KL can't please everybody. I personally think KL is pretty darn sweet just like any other asian cities.

I didnt say its bad-its a great skyline compared to anything in Europe but if you take the twins away,its average for Asia-comparable to skylines of Bangkok,Jakarta,Seoul,many smaller Chinese cities etc. HongKong,Shanghai,Tokyo,Singapore,Shenzen,Beijing etc are far more impressive IMO.

^^There's too many posts u who keep rating KL 'without the twins'. Reality check, it is there..whether we like it or not...so rate KL with the Petronas towers in it mate.And please see the KL construction thread and see the buildings that have gone up and will go up .

If people insist this kind of rating, then I might as well rate Hong Kong without its iconic buildings :lol:.

Petronas towers rule 8/10

I love driving on the elevated highway, you get to see one of the panaromic view of KL although just a side of Ampang and KLCC.

this city looks awesome in that night pic and almost like a perfect 10. it's just that gap between the petronas and that other tall building kinda takes it away for me. hope that area get's filled up in the future.
