I can't give it lower than a 9 since it does have some of the world's tallest buildings, and it has some other interesting buildings as well.

You really don't need much clustering when you have two giants holding hands - the other structures seem a scattered crowd admiring these towers.........8.5/10 - xtra .5 of a point due to the Petronas.........

I thinks its a shame that the Petronas draw all the attention, because it's a relly nice skyline. Maybe not so big, but there are many Skyscrapers. And it also looks got with all the parks, and trees....

KL is nice, but it lacks density and has a relatively flat skyline(no variation in height)
The city is dominated by the Petronas and unfortunateley, the rest of the city is not as captivating.
A city does not work out if it depends on a single building to beautify it.
However, it is a nice city and Petronas pulls it together.

Kuala Lumpur is a beautiful city with an exciting skyline.
It was a thrill for me to visit it. My hotel was the Mandarin
Oriental, across the street from the Petronas Towers.
I was in heaven. Since most of the other buildings are
shorter, I give this skyline an 8.5/10.

Okay carefully looking at the photos shown here and others I've seen, I'm not superkeen on the lack of density, and the placement of some of the scrapers, patronis does make a huge difference though, without it, it would be a fairly standard skyline

without p towers - 5/10
with p towers - 6/10

Powerfull skyline. The prominant Petronas Twins are a big plus for the overall skyline.
9/10

Without the Petronas twins and the KL obs tower, it would only be 7.5/10

kl has currently the highest building on earth, what or how is/ looks in relation to the skyline or what the rest of the skyline does is actually something to think about, but will not influence my rating.
This beautiful and breath taking city does not deserve another rate than 10/10.

Density: 7

I personally don't think that KL skyline is that dense. But the planning is pretty good. Except the Petronas, other buildings are not that tall.

7.5/10. It just isnt that impressive to me. The Petronas are entirely out of scale compared to the remainder of KL's skyscrapers. The Petronas belong in city that can atleast match their caliber. Kuala Lumpur seems to be a very lush, tropical city and I believe that that type of climate blends well with skyscrapers, and I love the Menara Maybank. So, regardless of the misplaced Petronas, it's a city worth visiting to me. Just a little overrated.

This argument is old! :bash:

If you;ve not heard of KL before doesn't mean that 'the rest of the world' doesn't.

Grow up and be aware that there are many other people whom are aware of cities like Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta and Singapore before the likes of London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris and San Francisco.

Yeah I may agree that KL skyline doesn't looks cool if see from high and far maybe because KL is not fotogeinic but KL is superb, you have to travel by car to see for your self. At the highway (nearing the Downtown), you'll be amaze by the immense skyline. The fascinating feeling is hard to describe, so the best way is go and see for yourself. I can gurantee you'll be fascinated by the skyline. Please don't mind the little pollution at there. Many asian cities are having the same problems except for those mature cities like Singapore. ;)

duuudddee...you gotta be kidding!!!
I live in the states (Miami) and recently came back from LA ...c'mmon big ass city with a population of 14 mil with that skyline???? geeezz....it hasn't changed much the last time I was there...lack of public transportation, dirty, and the traffic...regardless of what you have to say, KL is a far better city and far more nourishing than LA that's for sure! KL is definitely much denser than LA and the skyscrapers has more characters than the boxy structures in downtown LA...KL has a equal balance of greens and hi tech...that's what the city special and appealing...

and NewYorkCity...grow up!! you probably never have set foot outside US soil haven't yah?? open your eyes and yes....there are other city greater than NY! .....I live in NY beofre on between 7 and 8th ave on west 22nd street....yeah you got lil life trapped between gigantic old buildings that cost too much for mid income people to afford....and traffic, forget that! and pollution??? c'mmon, give me a break.New York is a great city, Capital of the world but that's bout it.

Leeigh
December 13th, 2003, 09:52 AM
and yes no doubt. KL deserves more than a 9.

and KL is not the only city in the world that I wouod rate a 10, Chicago is a 10 and yes I used to live there as well! and Sydney, Australia.

ain't it sad...? that some people are so jealous that it is sooo obvious? I can understand if you vote KL as a 6 or 7 but less than 4 ot 3?? c'mmom....you guy are green with envy aren't yah??? insecurity...hmm...or thretened that there are other beutiful and 'pleasant' cities outside the US?

dude, US cities are no longer the big daddy of the world, just to let ya know...open your eyes and learn geography and world culture, will give ya some insight. Get out of the shell and embrace others!

I mean I have been and have lived in several cities in the States and none of them compared to KL, as far as landscaping, transportation, culture and architectural characters...well Chicago is pretty cool and NYC is just massive...yeah massive and choked.

but ya know what...I guess some go by quantity than quality...and KL sure got both equally balanced!

Rock on KL!!

Naturally KL has some of the greatest (read tallest) buildings in the world and they are newish too (even better). Has a lot of height, and is generally quite dense. However, having too much height here seems to detract from the overall impression of the skyline. Overall the skyline has quit a nice form (with exception of PTx2- stands out toooooo much) but needs somehow to build more of a gradual rise to the centre. Make sense?

Most Buildings are not tall enough. If all the buildings are half as tall as or taller than Petronas twin tower will give a magnificent and outstanding view. But i believe this will happen very soon since malaysia is a DEVELOPING COUNTRY. So, just let time tells the story.

The Petronas Towers may be the tallest in the world (for now), but they stick out like sore thumbs in relation to the rest of KL. To me, other than their impressive height, they're not too pretty. The rest of the city is interesting and has variety, but in my opinion, the city's skyline is overrated. 8/10

there is KL tower to balance up the skyline:D actually even that is not enough (incertain angles). there are a few buildings which are quite tall that is gonna be built in KL such as Plaza Rakyat. hope it will be resumed

BTW, i think KL's skyline is extremely underrated. just look at the numbers of voters fot 3 or less :bash:

The Petronas Towers are cool, everything else is blah. At night though I like how the buildings seem to shoot light into the sky in focused beams which is cool. That one tower looks like the CN Tower, but looks nowhere near as good. I give it a 6/10.

9/10. Lots of different looking buildings. The Petronas Towers are really great. It still needs a lot more buildings--some of which must be taller in order to offset the Petronas Towers--before it deserves a 9.5. All in all, though, it's very impressive.

It's a shame Petronas gets so much attention, because this skyline is staggering even without them. The variety, density and height of the buildings is just awesome. And of course having a former world's-tallest (even if they cheated;) ) is a major plus. I hope this one continues to grow with such good taste. 10

Considering the size of the city (1.4 mio) it is definately a 10. However, it isn't dense enough in my opinion, so it's only a 9, but a BIG one.

check out 'overpopulated' Indian cities...not very interesting. Kl's population is small, much cleaner and organized and less populated cities with such amazing skyline means better quality living. KL skyline might not appeal to you but 3 out of 10, tells me that you're or crack...or just jealousy?? :bash:

5.5/10 nothing special in this city.

KL is very modest and has a lot of natural charm and not polluted by foreign culture and absorbed with 'wanna be american' city attitude. KL is KL...if you don't think KL is 'special' in it's own right...you'd be among the few that thinks so.

Look at the greens! that alone makes KL a special city. It truly is a city in a park or garden city as some might call it. Yes KL is not perfect..there are some pollutions but I still hold this city city high on my list. It is well spread out and not too clustered. Nice in photography but not really for living.

Basically the Petronas Towers is basically the main attention of the whole area. When you think of Kuala Lumpur, the first thing that comes in your mind is the Petronas Towers, otherwise the city still looks impressive. Though the P Towers are so remarkably beautiful, I can't say that Kuala Lumpur is a letdown. Even with or without the towers, the city stands out really well with elegant skyscrapers and the area which is located on a hilly land. Plus, the districts themselves are also impressive in the eye, and I am serious. KL is a must visit, you should go to Kuala Lumpur and go wild!! I would!! For some reason, my mind is telling me that I love this city like it is better than New York, my mind has taken over to say how this city is impressive, well, here is the score. 10/10
