Count me impressed but where are all those buildings that are being built. I took a close look at those photos but there doesn't seem to be much construction activity aside from those amazing islands....

the area of dubai city is big mate!

the old center of dubai at the creek is up to 35km away from the new heart of dubai, the jumeirah/dubai marina area.

towers are built everywhere, most of them presently in the new heart of dubai. about 300 towers and luxury mid-rise residential buildings here

it's hard to see it in the pics, but if it was possible to get an aerial shot you would be impressed by the huge size of the construction sites of all these projects located next to each other.

I took a close look at those photos but there doesn't seem to be much construction activity

the labour comes from south asia, and most of the enginers are european/north american. some from the southern hemisphere too¬

yea spires do look nice but only when a buildings is done correctly and the buildings use the spire as an extension of height not just something to make the building look taller

However Marina Pinacle has only one spire and not two. It is another building nearby that has two spires as you said. That one doesn't look bad but on Marina Pinacle it doesn't add anything. Not that the building itself is preatty to begin with.

A matter of taste. A lot of scrapers look better without a spire.

Those aren't actually the pile caps they are breaking, it is the over pour of concrete they are breaking out so they can go back in and pour the pile caps. The caps will usually be a larger diameter than the piles. They may even be square.

omg it's going so slow and it's not even at 50% :ohno: maybe next year they will make some progress regarding the speed of the consruction

I think it will be completed in Mid of 2008 coz the speed is very low..

with that speed they maybe will finish in the end of 2008 when not sometime in 2009 :lol:

Well, the cladding is gradually going on, though it's too early to tell what it is going to look like, maybe more green than the usual blue.
Marina Pinnacle must surely be one of the slowest under-construction skyscrapers in Dubai. The core was out of the ground in August 2006; two and a half years later it's about to top out. From the pics 28 October to 15 February (about 15 weeks) it rose just 5 floors.
a quick timeline:
Feb 2007: about 10 levels high
Feb 2008: about 35
Feb 2009: close to 66

Looks like 17th floor above last service floor is finally made - this should be the last level with square footprint; only a round shaped level plus roof and spire on one side is missing IMO. Also some progress in the matter of cladding:

Though the slowest in the block, Marina Pinnacle has imperceptibly grown to around 240m - and now it's getting a bit odd, because the roof is overdue IMO.

If I got it right, the tower has 4x17=68 levels (incl. podium and 1 service floor on top) plus crown and spire, like on this model photo (http://img210.exs.cx/img210/6783/model38mr.jpg) by markmywords from 2005.
But now the 18th level of the upper part = lv69 has started on full square footage, as it seems. So did they change plans??

Is it a fata morgana? No! - Busy days at Marina Pinnacle: many blue men on top now.
So this construction period might come to an end sooner than suspected.
But at present the tower is still getting taller, as they poured two floors in November.

Viewed from Palm Jumeira, Marina Pinnacle (left) looks almost 250m now, and still there's no crown.
Including the eponymous pinnacle, this one will be much taller than 260m. :)
The upper tier has been increased, so that there are 70 full floors already now, IMO.

Marina Pinnacle got 1-2 new floors a month recently, it's over 250m now IMO and still no roof in sight...

Maybe someone could check out the construction sign or ask the staff?
On this thread's page 4, Krazy posted the sign of 4th August 2006 (http://i2.tinypic.com/23ktf2r.jpg). Has it changed? I know there has been a slightly different render later, but both include a similar top and spire.

Yes 1-2 floors a month...which is why its taken 3 and a half years (from a rising core) to build. All the other towers have raced past, I suspect the Pentomium will race past too!:)

The AMEinfo.com website (http://www.ameinfo.com/176997.html) has a blurb from Tiger Properties dated 25 November 2008 stating construction had reached the 64th of a total of 77 floors. Imre's pic posted on 3 December 2008 (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=28849926&postcount=197) shows the height as 3rd mechanical level + 12.

Based on 77 levels and mechanical + 12 = 64, then mechanical + 22 should mean it's reached the 74th level with three more to go.

NB.. nowhere can an updated render of this tower be found.
Here's an oldie: Night render (http://www.tigergroup.net/images/marina-pinnacle1.jpg). It shows the completed tower as having 16 floors + roof above the 3rd mechanical level.

The Tiger Group website (http://www.tigergroup.net/marina-pinnacle.aspx) has the height at 280 metres being 4 Basements + G + 4 Parking + Health Club + 3 Service Floors + 64 Residential Floors. That's 73 floors including the ground level with no mention of roof top mechanicals and/or roof feature.

So instead of 260m|66 fl maybe the thread title should be 280m|73 fl.
