Hmm...then that would be a ripoff, although I saw an ad for it in the newspaper. I wonder why they call it the Imperial, because there used to a hotel called Imperial Hotel there..unless they demolished it.

I saw the ad too....I suppose u can only see half the skyline from that angle?

It is nearly topped out, it seems. It is not very tall, but it looks very dominating in its aera.

It surely dominates the area!

Its name is inspired by the former Imperial Hotel, which used to be on the same site I think.

I don't think there have been shop houses here before as it is on the side of a hill... It is surrounded by a row of shophouse on one side, an indian temple on another side, and the rest is the hill :-)

Now that I think of it, it is not unlikely that 2 or 3 shophouses have been cleared to make way for the entrance of the building... Not sure, really !

The site was former Imperial Hotel. The Shophouses along River Valley Rd are still there. :)

oh..it was torn down..maybe in 2001?

the white and fanciful-looking Cockpit Hotel nearby was also torn down and they are building Visioncrest there now.

It looks like a core, yes. I don't know what it is. Maybe some common facility building or even the car park ?

OK, now I know what it is ^^
It's just that they are not building this one one floor after another. Instead, they are rising one part of the building, then adding another part, and so on.
Quite strange, I think it shows quite clearly on the first pic:

Well, not many buildings around this area are taller than 14 storeys.
There's New Otani/Novotel which is 25 I think, UE Square must be no more than 15 as well.

I think there is a height restriction at this area...which is good as it doesnt spoil the view.

anyway it looks nicer than the former Imperial Hotel

It really is a massive building when viewed from Clemenceau Avenue.

It really does look massive...in a way its good it wasnt any taller....

I love the second picture from Pengui. Very nice contrast. Love the shophouses. Very messy and nice.

The colours are utterly disappointing....

Somehow many in-city condos look more suitable for the suburbs...
As having this suburb feel...

Well those extruded windows seem to be the trend for condos those days.
No doubt in 20 years Singapore architects will feel it's the most disgusting thing in the world and will demolish this kind of buildings by the dozen :-)

It has an unbeatable panoramic view of Fort Canning and the financial district though.
