RafflesCity September 1st, 2003, 09:56 AM Wow! The Imperial will provide such awesome views of the skyline!
huaiwei September 1st, 2003, 03:29 PM The Imperial will still be blocked by Fort Canning hill, esp when its so short! :D Marketing gimmick...I would say. ;)

Hmm...then that would be a ripoff, although I saw an ad for it in the newspaper. I wonder why they call it the Imperial, because there used to a hotel called Imperial Hotel there..unless they demolished it.

I saw the ad too....I suppose u can only see half the skyline from that angle?

It is nearly topped out, it seems. It is not very tall, but it looks very dominating in its aera.
RafflesCity January 27th, 2005, 12:18 PM It surely dominates the area!
Its name is inspired by the former Imperial Hotel, which used to be on the same site I think.
Thanks for updating on this one! ^^
Þróndeimr January 31st, 2005, 09:12 PM Beautiful project, especally at the ground around the tower. But where in Singapore is Jln Rumbia/River Valley Road?
Monkey January 31st, 2005, 09:57 PM I hope they didn't mess with any ShopHouses there! :bash:
Pengui February 1st, 2005, 01:39 AM I don't think there have been shop houses here before as it is on the side of a hill... It is surrounded by a row of shophouse on one side, an indian temple on another side, and the rest is the hill :-)
Now that I think of it, it is not unlikely that 2 or 3 shophouses have been cleared to make way for the entrance of the building... Not sure, really !
hyacinthus February 1st, 2005, 01:44 AM The site was former Imperial Hotel. The Shophouses along River Valley Rd are still there. :)
RafflesCity February 3rd, 2005, 06:54 AM The old Imperial Hotel can be seen on the right of this pic (that brown blocky building)

Pengui February 3rd, 2005, 07:01 AM Do you want to book a room ? ^^

LOL, has it been torn down yesterday or what ?
RafflesCity February 3rd, 2005, 07:03 AM oh..it was torn down..maybe in 2001?
the white and fanciful-looking Cockpit Hotel nearby was also torn down and they are building Visioncrest there now.
Pengui February 3rd, 2005, 07:03 AM Here is a pic taken in 1999. The hotel was still there and working !

redstone February 3rd, 2005, 02:13 PM I still see websites reserving for Cockpit Hotel!

RafflesCity March 4th, 2005, 01:35 PM they seem to be building something at the base still?
Do I see a core?
Pengui March 5th, 2005, 07:46 AM It looks like a core, yes. I don't know what it is. Maybe some common facility building or even the car park ?
Pengui April 10th, 2005, 11:53 AM 10th April
OK, now I know what it is ^^
It's just that they are not building this one one floor after another. Instead, they are rising one part of the building, then adding another part, and so on.
Quite strange, I think it shows quite clearly on the first pic:

http://ssc.singapenguin.net/05/050410_imperial02.jpg
RafflesCity April 11th, 2005, 02:56 AM nice pics!
I'm still a bit puzzled about why they left that core-bit so slow behind the rest of the building.
It really looks enormous seen next to the shophouses even at 14-storeys! ^^

hyacinthus September 25th, 2005, 10:32 AM if u compare it to the temple, yes.

coming along nicely
redstone December 26th, 2005, 06:49 PM Just looks very odd, a hole in the middle of shophouse row...
Would be better if it was taller. It looks like something suitable for the suburbs.
Maybe cos of Istana....?
Pengui December 27th, 2005, 04:20 AM Well, not many buildings around this area are taller than 14 storeys.
There's New Otani/Novotel which is 25 I think, UE Square must be no more than 15 as well.
RafflesCity December 29th, 2005, 06:43 AM I think there is a height restriction at this area...which is good as it doesnt spoil the view.
anyway it looks nicer than the former Imperial Hotel

Moving towards completion.

It really is a massive building when viewed from Clemenceau Avenue.
RafflesCity February 6th, 2006, 02:40 PM It really does look massive...in a way its good it wasnt any taller....
JoSin February 7th, 2006, 01:20 PM I love the second picture from Pengui. Very nice contrast. Love the shophouses. Very messy and nice.
redstone February 7th, 2006, 03:06 PM The colours are utterly disappointing....
Somehow many in-city condos look more suitable for the suburbs...
As having this suburb feel...
Pengui February 7th, 2006, 06:16 PM Well those extruded windows seem to be the trend for condos those days.
No doubt in 20 years Singapore architects will feel it's the most disgusting thing in the world and will demolish this kind of buildings by the dozen :-)

bagus June 30th, 2006, 05:10 PM How big is that showflat?

Suipalucsea July 1st, 2006, 03:28 AM What!? 1.5 million for 1367 sq ft? How much are they charging for the furniture and interior design??

Selling with the furniture and lighting.
Suipalucsea July 1st, 2006, 08:20 AM I know, but usually in such situations they will tell you how much they are asking for the apartment and the furniture/ID *separately*. I'm guessing about 1.4 million for the apartment itself and 100K for the ID etc...correct? Anyway, it's quite a jump from the prices they were asking not so long ago......GROAN!

Sort of. U keen? :)
Suipalucsea July 2nd, 2006, 02:15 PM I've always said that that area should be a lot more expensive than it was....pity I didn't put my money where my mouth was. :-( Too late now [for me!]

Thanks.
