WatcherZero January 8th, 2012, 08:27 AM Boeing published it's final order update for 2011.
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm
In the last week of December it could add 25 787-9s to an unidentified customer to it's order book, making 2011 a positive year order wise.
The numbers:
Gross orders: 45
Cancellations: -32
Net orders: 13
It could be the order of 25 787s for Air France-KLM.
After 2 years of negative orders finally a positive year again for the 787 even with the delivery problems.
Yep they left it very late but managed to get a positive net order tally finally.
Final Airbus numbers coming January 17th but reportedly managed to deliver 530 aircraft meaning they will have beaten Boeing on both orders and deliveries again.
rafabelem January 8th, 2012, 04:06 PM Hi, guys! Would you know how the delivery schedule of 787 is? I mean what are the next airlines to receive the aircraft? I saw a picture someone published in the previous page and there were aircrafts in JAL and Air India collors. Besides I have already seen a pic of a Royal Air Marroc 787 parked at Boeing's field.
Momo1435 January 8th, 2012, 07:16 PM The only delivery schedule known right now for specific planes are the next 3 for ANA to be delivered this month.
The 2nd airline that will most likely receive a 787 will be JAL, but that depends on the certification proces of the GEnx powered 787, that is not completed by now (ANA has RR-Trent1000 engines). One plane for JAL is already completely ready for delivery, except for the certification. If that takes to long the 2nd airline with Trent 1000 engines could become the next to receive a 787, that will be LAN. But that's very unlikely, since the certification should be in the final stages by now.
Boeing has already parked 787 for the following airlines:
ANA (Trent 1000)
JAL (GEnx)
Air India (GEnx)
LAN (Trent 1000)
Royal Air Maroc (GEnx)
China Southern (GEnx)
Ethiopian Airlines (GEnx)
United Airlines (GEnx)
But all of these plane are not ready for delivery, they are still awaiting rework. And all this extra work to make the planes more up to spec is one of the reasons why the delivery is going so slow right now. Only from March the 1st planes will come straight from the production line without any need for any rework, they will be delivered straight away. This will make the delivery pace go up, from 3 in both January and February to 6/7 per month later in this year. And only when all the currently stored planes are delivered after receiving their rework the production and delivery rate will go up to 10 per month, currently scheduled for late 2013.
If there will be more delays it will all take longer.

giovani kun January 10th, 2012, 06:03 PM Boeing, Air France-KLM Finalize Order for 25 787s
PARIS, Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Air France-KLM Group have finalized an order for 25 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with options. The order was signed in late December 2011 and was recorded on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website, attributed to an unidentified customer. A preliminary agreement was first announced on September 16, 2011.
"By making the 787 a key part of its fleet renewal, Air France-KLM strengthens its position as a worldwide leader," said Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Reaction to the Dreamliner's entry into service has been phenomenal and we look forward to seeing passengers of Air France-KLM fly on this revolutionary airplane."
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is a slightly larger version of the 787-8 and will carry 250-290 passengers on routes of 8,000 to 8,500 nautical miles (14,800 to 15,750 kilometers). The 787 provides airlines with incredible fuel efficiency, resulting in exceptional environmental performance. The airplane uses 20 percent less fuel than today's similarly sized airplanes. It also travels at a speed of Mach 0.85, which is similar to the speed of today's fastest wide-body airplanes.
The order increases the number of 787-9s on order to 305 airplanes. The 787 Dreamliner family, including the 787-8 and 787-9, has accumulated a total of 860 orders from 59 customers located all over the world.
Eight French companies partner with Boeing on the 787 Dreamliner. They include Dassault Systemes (software solutions), Labinal (wiring), Latecoere (passenger doors), Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (main and nose landing gear, electric brakes), Michelin (aftermarket tyres), Radiall (connectors), Thales (electric power conversion system, flight display, in-flight entertainment system), and Zodiac Aerospace (primary power management system, emergency slides, water and waste systems, cabin interiors, galley inserts and seats, and other equipments).
The Air France-KLM Group is a long-time and valued customer with a large Boeing fleet of 188 airplanes in operation, including 74 for Air France and 114 for KLM. Air France-KLM is one of the world's largest 777 operators.

giovani kun January 12th, 2012, 04:59 PM January 787 delivery update part 2
I just got this from a source but it may change depending on conditions at Everett. ZA104 (JA807A, L/N 41) may have been contractually delivered on Tuesday, January 10th. It may flyaway to Haneda Tokyo today, January 12th at about 6PM local time if delivery has been indeed made a couple days ago. Typically the flyaway is a couple days after contractual delivery though it varies from customer to customer and particular circumstances a t the time.
ZA102 (JA804A, L/N 9) is scheduled to be delivered today and may flyaway a couple of days from now. There were no further test flights of both aforementioned aircraft since January 10th.
ZA117 (JA806A, L/N 40) is still scheduled (tentatively) for delivery on the 30th but this should be taken with a grain of salt as the aircraft has not appeared on the flightline yet.
Further I've gotten information that ZA236 (VT-ANH, L/N 35) may make its first flight around Jan. 16th though this is still up in the air (so to speak). This aircraft is to conduct the final portion of F&R/ETOPs testing on the GEnx powered 787 for certification purposes. If Boeing is able to get this part of the program completed in time with certification of of the GEnx 787s then They may be able to deliver two GEnx 787s starting in February. One each would go to Japan Airlines (ZA177, JA822J, L/N 22) and Air India (ZA236, VT-ANH, L/N 35). Boeing also has a 787 penciled in for ANA (ZA105, JA808A, L/N 42) next month.
There are no definitive delivery dates for these airplanes for obvious reasons and these airplanes themselves may not deliver next month due to continued issues revolving the amount of re-work and the allocation of resources to effectively deal with the amount of work. there should be further clarification of the 787 deliveries on about two weeks when Boeing has it's 2011 earnings conference call.

Momo1435 January 13th, 2012, 06:47 AM Boeing made the 1st order update for 2012.
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm
And straight in a new order for 10 787s for a Unidentified Customer(s). The strong sales of the last few months of 2011 is continuing in the new year.
In other news, Aspire Aviation wrote this about the B787-10X, there's a chance that it will be launched this year.
As a 320-seat 787-10X aircraft with a range of 6,800 nautical miles (nm) complements the Boeing product line in the widebody arena, Aspire Aviation believes Boeing will eventually launch both aircraft derivative programmes, with Aspire Aviation‘s sources indicating a 2012 launch of the 787-10X for a 2018 entry into service (EIS) whereas the 777X is likely to be launched in 2013 with a 2019 EIS. Nevertheless the sources caution that the launch and EIS dates of these aircraft are fluid, pointing out that Boeing could launch the 787-10X as late as 2014 yet target an entry into service (EIS) of 2016, owing to the minimal amount of work involved in developing the -10X variant.
In particular, the Boeing 787-10X will burn 20% less fuel than an Airbus A330-300 with a 10% and 5% lower operating cost than the A350-900 and -1000, respectively, while requiring minimal investment and engineering resources since the foundation of further stretching the 787 fuselage has already been laid by the -9 stretch variant. In launching the 787-10X, Boeing will offer a competitive A330-300 replacement with more range in the medium to long-haul marketplace.
On the sales front, the 787 is likely to see more new 787 orders in 2012 as the aircraft programme continues to retire risks steadily and a 787-10X launch could give the 787 programme further sales momentum, should the double-stretched variant be launched this year.

giovani kun January 14th, 2012, 08:22 AM ANA's 787 set to be tested with January service expansion (Update1)
By Jon Ostrower on January 13
http://i41.tinypic.com/euo5rp.jpg
Over the next two weeks, the 787 will add four new destinations, including its first international long-haul route, aided by a growing number of deliveries from Boeing.
The 787's first two and a half months in service have provided a light trial with a only four daily flights with two aircraft and a combined 325min of flying between the Haneda Airport in the Japanese capital and Hiroshima and Okayama. Those light operations have yielded a 96.3% dispatch reliability, compared to 96.5% for ANA's total operations.
The only deviation of note during the first months of service was the November 6 incident in which the landing gear failed to deploy on the first attempt while on approach to Okayama.
As Boeing and ANA have closely tended to the first two 787s, the expansion of 787 services will provide the aircraft's first major test.
UPDATE 4:42 PM ET: A PianoX performance analysis of the deployment the 787 on these regional routes indicates that the inherent nature of the aircraft's long-range configuration means ANA is far from yielding the benefits of Boeing's touted 20% improvement in fuel efficiency over the 767.
The B787-8 is used by ANA in domestic and regional service over distances of 300 to 1200 nm (HND-OKJ, HND-PEK). Such usage is ill-matched to intrinsic design-sizing considerations for this aircraft. For example, when carrying 25 tonnes over 1000 nm the B787-8 burns approximately 10.6 tonnes of fuel (and more for early deliveries with acknowledged performance shortfalls). In contrast, a B757-300W is better sized to carry the same payload over the same distance, burning merely 8.6 tonnes despite its senescence, albeit at economy-class comfort levels (no deterioration, best engine option). The B767-300ERW burns 10.3 tonnes under the same circumstances. The factual significance and operational reality of such (counter-expectational) mission-specific fuel burns can appear negated or reversed through contrived definitions of efficiency metrics based on point conditions.
Further, the analysis suggests that on the coming long-range route to Frankfurt, ANA will only yield a 1.2% fuel burn advantage with the 787 compared to a new 767-300ER with winglets.
The coming expansion is aided by recent deliveries to the airline, including the December 30 handover of Airplane 31, the first 158-seat long-haul configured aircraft and the January 12 delivery of the fourth, Airplane 41. The fifth delivery, Airplane 9, likely taking place today, says a program source, will expand the 264-seat regionally configured fleet to four aircraft.
The airline will begin its first international service between Haneda and Beijing on 14 January, followed by services on 17 and 18 January and its first long-haul flight between Tokyo Narita airport and Frankfurt, Germany on 21 January.
Domestic operations are set to expand on the Okayama and Hiroshima routes on 13 January, moving from one to two flights per day.
ANA will begin Haneda flights to Yamaguchi Ube and Itami (Osaka) from 23 January.
After the commencement of its 2012 fiscal year on 1 April, ANA will add Haneda to Matuyama and Narita to Seattle and San Jose, California.
The Beijing route will be initially operated with a international long-haul configuration on January 14, 17 and 18 before moving to the Frankfurt flight, which will be flown daily with 787 as of March 1, alternating between 777-200ER and 787 service from January 21 after delivery delays in November and December slowed the introduction.

Tentative word is that ZA104 (JA807A, L/N 41) should leave today at about 6pm. It was officially delivered on the 12th. It will be flying as NH9397 departing for Haneda. Nothing up on Flightaware of yet but there is still a few hours to go.
ZA102 (JA804A, L/N 9) is projected to be delivered today with a tentative flyaway date of January 16 at 7:15PM. It will also fly to Haneda as NH9397.

giovani kun January 17th, 2012, 04:17 PM Boeing on verge of starting final GEnx/787 certification tests
UPDATE: Due to a winter storm in Washington State, it looks like ZA236's first flight has been put off. On a related note, ZA102 (JA804A, L/N 9) is now scheduled to leave Everett at 7:15PM local for its delivery flight to Haneda.
A Flightaware alert just went up for BOE 236 this afternoon for takeoff around 1:45pm local time. The significance of this flight is that this is the first flight of the 787 that will undertake the last part of F&R/ETOPs certification testing that is required for FAA type certification of the GE powered 787.
This important testing was partially done by ZA006 a few months ago but FAA requires that some of the tests also needs to be done by a production standard 787. Boeing assigned ZA236, a 787 destined for Air India. The start of the final phase of this testing was delayed and rumor has it that the delay was attributable to lightning protection around the engine pylons for the GEnx-1B engines.
Today's flight should be a standard Boeing checkout flight and there will probably be a couple
More test flights before final F&R/ETOPs flight formally kick off.
Boeing is hoping to start GE/787 deliveries next month so I anticipate that this test should last 3-4 weeks with the aim of first GE powered 787 delivery to JAL at the end of February. However this is all predicated on all testing going well with no major issues being revealed.

giovani kun January 17th, 2012, 04:29 PM Another ANA 787 delivered, another being prepared
Last night a Boeing crew flew out another ANA 787 for ANA destined for Haneda International Airport. This is ZA102, (JA804A, L/N 9) and one of the very early build aircraft that needed extensive re-work and modifications. It will probably be placed in domestic service. This is ANA's 5th 787 and there are two more waiting in the wings.
ZA117 (JA806A, L/N 40) made an appearance on the Everett flightline after passing the last few months insidethe EMC. Thanks to Johanny who gave us a link to a flickr page maintained by "Simpilot459" which shows this aircraft with lights on at the Compass Rose at Everett. This is scheduled to be the next 787 delivered.
See ZA117
However weather in the Pacific Northwest may become an issue over the next few days that may disrupt the delivery schedule. ZA236 (VT-ANH, L/N 35) was scheduled to fly yesterday but was postponed due to a winter storm that is hitting the Pacific Northwest. This storm is expected to dump snow in the region over the next few days. It's unlikely that this plane will fly its B-1 flight until the storm passes or is reduced in intensity. I'm estimating that it probably won't fly until the end of this week. Likewise, ZA117 is supposed to have it's B-1 flight around the 20th but this is looking increasingly unlikely as it was just pulled out of the EMC and will need to have its first engine start and other pre-flight activities done prior to the flight. I can't se this plane flying before the end of next week.
The end result is that deliveries will be delayed due to the storm as it moves the schedule to the right.

giovani kun January 28th, 2012, 10:02 PM Boeing 787 Dreamliner Stops at RFD
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It’s not flying commercially yet in the United States, but that didn't stop the Boeing 787 from spending some time in Stateline skies today.
23 News Anchor Mike Garrigan was able to climb aboard the new Dreamliner today at the Greater Rockford Airport and can honestly say that the experience even exceeded his lofty expectations.
Rockford is one of a handful of cities in the united states to experience what it's like to dream big.
Boeing VP of 787 Engineering Mike Sinnett said, "It was very important for us to try to restore some of the magic of flight.”
Boeing's 787 Dreamliner makes a three day stop at RFD allowing Hamilton Sundstrand employees, government officials, and the media a first hand look at the inside of the plane that is as bold as it is big.
Sinnett said, "We wanted to make sure that we put some things into the airplane that couldn't be taking away by the airlines over time. Things like lower cabin altitude, bigger windows, smoother ride, better lighting"
As you can see it's the amenities that make this plane so incredible, but it's the efficiencies that Boeing hopes to make the success of the 787 so sustainable.
Hamilton Sundstrand President of 787 Systems Robert Leduc said, "Operating costs of the airplane are about 10 percent lower than the operating costs of airplanes it replaces. It burns about 20 percent less fuel. It's got maintenance costs that are about 30 percent lower and it's got about 40 percent more range. The only real thing that airlines can control is costs. And given how fuel efficient this airplane is and how low its maintenance costs are, anyone that flies it will have a distinct competitive advantage."
Hamilton Sundstrand has a huge role in making this dream liner come true. In fact, the Rockford company is the single largest system supplier of the 787 in the world.
Leduc Said, "We basically touch from the windshield to the back of this airplane. We're responsible for everything from the rain removal system all the way back to the auxiliary power unit. We supply all the heat and all the air conditioning on board.”
At a cost of 200 million dollars per plane, over 800 have already been ordered, but only five right now are in service all in Japan.
Sinnett said United Continental will be the first to fly the plane domestically in the U.S, but he did not want to comment on when exactly that will be.

ANA's 787 faces bumpy service entry on Haneda-Frankfurt

ANA's first 787 flights with JA801A and JA802A on domestic flights within Japan have been nearly flawless, with a 96.3% on time reliability during its first months of service. For JA805A, the first 158-seat 787 in long-haul international configuration, the introduction on the Tokyo-Haneda to Frankfurt route, the first long-haul service, has been anything but smooth.
All Nippon Airways first long-haul international service with its Boeing 787 has faced a rocky start since 21 January with two of its ten flights operating between Tokyo-Haneda and Frankfurt, Germany cancelled due to technical issues with the new aircraft, the airline confirmed.
ANA cancelled flight NH204 on 26 January and NH203 30 January. Other 787 flights to Germany operated on 21, 23, 26 and 28 January.
The 26 January service was cancelled in Frankfurt when the aircraft's flap system failed, while the 30 January cancellation in Haneda was due to "a temporary failure of the computer software which monitors and controls the aircraft", said ANA, adding "the aircraft has been repaired by replacing the computer's concerned parts and loading software."
Of the five 787 deliveries to ANA, JA805A, Airplane 31, delivered on December 30, is operating exclusively on the airline's long-range international flights.

giovani kun February 5th, 2012, 06:20 PM Boeing starts final 787/GEnx F&R/ETOPs testing?
It looks as if Boeing may have started the final F&R/ETOPS testing for the GEnx-1B powered version of the 787 Dreamliner. ZA236 (L/N 35, VT-ANH), a production standard airplane destined for customer Air India and recently transferred to Boeing Field took off at about 11AM PST from Boeing Field and flew a 6h 40min test flight down and up the Pacific coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California before returning to Boeing Field. It is understood that ZA236 had transferred to Boeing Field was the express purpose of conducting the final F&R/ETOPs tests flights in order to gain final certification for this version of the 787.
It is unknown, at this time, how many hours still need to be flown for the final phases of this test program but when Boeing flew the F&R/ETOPs test for the Rolls Royce powered version of the 787, they ran it to 300 flight test hours with ETOPS testing being done concurrently with the F&R testing on the test flights. Boeing has already run some of hte F&R/ETOPs testing on ZA006, a test airplane which is currently undergoing re-work and refurbishment ot a production standard airplane in San Antonio. The FAA is requiring Boeing to fly some portion of hte F&R/ETOPs testing o na production standard airplane. This testing has been delayed due to technical issues with ZA236, the nature of which is currently unknown.
Assuming that Boeing will still have to fly 300 flight test hours and assuming that half of this testing done by ZA006 is considered complete by the FAA, then Boeing may have to run about 150 flight test hours on ZA236. Assuming about 8 flight test hours per flight that would mean that ZA236 would have to fly 20 days in order to complete final certification flight tests for the GEnx 787. That would leave roughly a week for Boeing to submit the final type certification paperwork to the FAA and to get their final review and approval so that Boeing can begin deliveries to JAL and Air India a the end of this month. This is very tight. Current Boeing plans show have that ZA177 (L/N 23, JA822J) and ZA129 (L/N 33, JA825J) are being prepared for delivery on Feb. 27th with ZA179 scheduled to make its first flight on Feb. 7th. Whether Boeing can hold to this schedule depends on the pace of the F&R/ETOPs testing and any issues that may be revealed as a result of this testing.
Additionally Boeing has an ANA 787, ZA117 (L/N 40, JA806A) tentatively scheduled for delivery around Feb. 19th with a first flight date of Feb. 7th. All these schedules are tentative schedules and may (probably) will change over the course of the next few weeks.

giovani kun February 5th, 2012, 09:38 PM Boeing inspects 787s after aft fuselage composite delamination
By Jon Ostrower on February 4
http://i44.tinypic.com/hsmkc4.jpg
Prepared for Flightglobal Pro
Delamination prompts Boeing to inspect 787 fleet
Jon Ostrower/Washington, D.C.
Boeing again faces a manufacturing quality issue, requiring inspections and repairs of its 787 fleet.
Structural stiffeners were found to be improperly joined to the composite skin in the aft sections of the aircraft, causing parts of the aircraft's carbon fibre structure to delaminate, confirms the airframer.
"Boeing has found that incorrect shimming was performed on support structure on the aft fuselage on certain airplanes in our facility in Everett, [Washington]," said the airframer.
Flightglobal has confirmed there are at least three affected airframes, Airplanes 56, for All Nippon Airways, where the problem was first discovered, and Airplanes 57 and 58, the first two aircraft for Qatar Airways.
Boeing declined to say how many 787s have this issue, though sources indicated that there are "significantly more" than the three initially identified in the factory.
Programme sources say the stiffeners, or longerons that run along the length of the aircraft, are delaminating around the rear opening of the Section 48 section above and below the cutout known as the "bird's mouth" that holds the Alenia Aeronautica-built horizontal stabiliser.
Boeing said the issue is a "straightforward repair" and poses no "short-term safety concern" and the airframer said its inspections have revealed "delamination in some instances."
Boeing is currently conducting inspections on the already built 787s and those waiting to be assembled, at least 50 airframes, in Everett and its North Charleston, South Carolina facilities.
"We have this condition well-defined and we are making progress on the repair plan," said Boeing and declined to say if the inspections were slowing preparations for delivering additional 787s.
The issue, identified around 24 January was traced to assembly of the aft fuselage by Boeing South Carolina, Formerly Vought Aircraft Industries, where Sections 47 and 48 are fabricated, assembled and stuffed with systems before being delivered to final assembly lines in North Charleston or Everett.
When the longerons are installed on the wound carbon fibre barrel, frames and longerons are secured to the skin of the structure to give it strength. When natural variations in the fit of parts exists, aerospace mechanics will install shims, or spacers, which compensate for variations and wedge into structure to create a tighter fit.
Without the shims, damage can be sustained to the composite when fasteners are installed by pulling the structure together, damaging the layers of carbon fibre.
Over the long-term composite delamination can decrease the fatigue life of the aircraft's structure.
Boeing said it has "already taken appropriate steps to address this issue" in South Carolina, declining to elaborate on what steps it has taken.
"We have already notified our early customers to ensure they are informed and aware of our plans to make repairs, should they be needed," the company said.
ANA, currently the sole operator of five 787s, said: "Currently we are not experiencing the issue; however, we are aware of this issue arising at the factory, and will take appropriate action when contacted by Boeing."
For the affected aircraft, Boeing said its "current plan", which one programme source described as "tedious", will not require the removal of the 787's tail cone and horizontal stabiliser to fix the longerons, its initial remedy for aircraft in the factory, and it can "address this condition without removal of any major structural parts."
"Repairs, should they be needed, will be implemented in the most efficient manner possible," said Boeing in order to maintain a design that conforms with its airworthiness certification standards.
Boeing has faced manufacturing quality issues before, most notably the June 2010 inspection, teardown and reinstallation of many Alenia Aeronautica-built horizontal stabilisers after many were assembled without proper shimming creating gaps in the structure that threatened the fatigue life of the empennage.

giovani kun February 7th, 2012, 02:45 PM Boeing confirms the start of final testing phase for 787/GEnx certification
Boeing confirmed to me this afternoon that they have indeed started the final phase of certification testing for the GEnx-1B powered version of the 787. What is unknown is how many hours Boeing will need to fly this airplane in order to complete this final phase. Boeing is still planning to deliver the first 787s powered by this engine by the end of this month to JAL, though with the recent delamination issues that Flightblogger revealed on Saturday evening, this schedule may well be in doubt though Boeing says this will have no effect on production. Boeing doesn't expect the need to remove major structural assemblies to gain access to the affected area and make repairs to the shim which they have describe as straightforward.

giovani kun February 8th, 2012, 07:26 PM ZA002 to be retired in Palmdale California
After ZA001 was retired from its short career, Boeing now confirmed that ZA002 (the second test plane in ANA colors) is flying to Palmdale, California for decommissioning and retirement.
The current status of the other test planes:
- ZA003 is performing trips around the world to market the 787 (The DreamTour), soon it will appear on the Singapore Airshow for the first time
- ZA004 is the last RR powered 787 test plane and this one stays ready for performing specific tests, often including new technology that is tested for the 787-9 and/or will be used on the 787 (or other programs) later. But it's uncertain if Boeing will keep this plane for testing, they may sell it to a VIP customer.
- ZA005 and ZA006 are the two GE powered 787's, they are not really bussy anymore. They do some additional testing for the GE certification and tests for Boeing only. Normally they will be sold to VIP customers. The last part of the GE certification is performed by ZA236, a production aircraft for Air India.
About this final GE testing, Boeing confirmed on Monday that they finally started the final phase of the GE ETOPS and F&R certification testing. But they didn't mention the amount of hours to be flown. Boeing claims they will deliver the first GE powered 787's this quarter and internal sources say they want to deliver the first two JAL 787's at the end of this month. But this seems very unlikely...first they have to finish testing (ETOPS and F&R testing on the RR powered 787's took about 3 weeks), than the FAA needs some time to finalise the certification and than Boeing has to deliver. And the new problems that were announced last weekend may delay further. So end of this quarter...hopefully...end of this month...don't think so.

SINGAPORE, Feb. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing's (NYSE:BA) new mid-size passenger airplane, the 787 Dreamliner, touched down here today for the Singapore Airshow. The airplane will be on static display Feb. 14 -17.
The Dreamliner demonstrated its long-range capabilities a few days ago, flying nonstop from Seattle's Boeing Field to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport -- a distance of 7,679 miles (12,358 km).
The 787, the first new airplane type of the 21st century, has garnered more than 800 orders from airlines around the globe. Singapore Airlines has 20 of the higher capacity 787-9s on order.
Made from lighter composite materials, the 787 is the first mid-size passenger airplane capable of flying nonstop to many more distant cities without having to go through a hub airport. That capability for a mid-size jet pleases not only passengers who would no longer need to detour to a hub airport, but also airlines who can establish long-haul routes previously served only by jumbo jets requiring many more passengers to be profitable.
The Dreamliner is in the midst of a six-month Dream Tour taking it around the world so customers and partners can experience the revolutionary jet first hand. The Dream Tour airplane, test plane ZA003, is outfitted with the 787's special cabin features including a welcoming entryway, dramatically larger dimmable windows, bigger bins and dynamic LED lighting. giovani kun February 12th, 2012, 09:47 AM No 787 Deliveries in February
Information just received indicates that while Boeing will be preparing 787s for delivery including the first deliveries of the GEnx-1B powered 787s. However, none of these airplanes will be delivered this month. It looks like these airplanes are being delayed about three and a half weeks.
According to information just received, ZA117 (JA806A, L/N 40) will be delivered to ANA around March 14th. This aircraft just had its first flight on Feb. 7. Both JA177 (JA822J, L/N 23) and ZA179 (JA825J, L/N 33) are scheduled to be delivered to Japan Airlines around March 24 with ZA179 tentatively scheduled to make its first flight around Feb. 13th (ZA177 had its first flight last year).
Lastly, ZA105 (JA808A, L/N 42) is scheduled to make its first flight around Feb. 29th but no delivery date has been set.
Undoubtedly this schedule shift has been caused by the need to check the aft fuselage for improper shimming installation and to take corrective measures if any are needed. Flightblogger has revealed that the inspections would take about three days but any work to correct any problems would take about two weeks per aircraft. This new schedule would corroborate this time estimate.
Meanwhile, Boeing contiues F&R/ETOPs testing on ZA236. On Wednesday/Thursday this aircraft flew a long 19 hour flight essentially Etch-A-Sketching "787" and the Boeing Corporate logo in the skies over the Western and Mid-Western sections of the country. Thus far this aircraft has flown 48.5 hours. It is expected that this airplane needs to fly about 150 hours to finish the certification program for the GEnx powered 787s.

jbkayaker12 February 16th, 2012, 05:55 AM Interesting!! Boeing 787 "drew" the numbers 787 during its flight path.
A Boeing 787 jet took corporate loyalty to new heights when it "drew" the letters "787" followed by the company's logo across several thousand miles of North American skies. The etching of the letters and logo, while not visible from the ground, can be seen in the flight path plans.
"Boeing's 19 hour test flight of the 787 Dreamliner was a great opportunity to test the limits of the 787, FlightAware's flight tracking, and the FAA's flight plan system," FlightAware Chief Executive Officer Daniel Baker tells Yahoo News. "It was the longest domestic flight we've ever handled and it required three FAA flight plans to accomplish, not to mention dozens of people coordinating the flight overnight."

giovani kun February 18th, 2012, 12:18 AM Obama: Boeing 787 Dreamliner is 'plane of the future'
President Barack Obama toured the Boeing Everett plant Friday and used the trip to promote tax breaks for companies that create jobs in America.
During his factory tour, Obama met a Boeing worker who helped build Air Force One.
“So I told him he did a pretty good job," Obama said. "'It’s flyin’ smooth. I get to see your handiwork in action every day.'”
But as wonderful as the president’s 747 is, he said, “It’s hard not to be amazed by the Dreamliner.”
“The Dreamliner is the plane of the future. And by building it here, Boeing is taking advantage of a huge opportunity right now to bring more jobs and more manufacturing back to the United States of America.
“We know that the last few decades have not been easy for manufacturing,” Obama said to the crowd, which was filled with workers as well as politicians and business leaders.
“New technology has made business more efficient and productive. But it also means companies need fewer workers than they used to and can “set up shop anywhere there’s an internet connection.”
The transition to a global economy has been “incredibly painful for a lot of communities and a lot of families,” Obama said. “Too many jobs that provided a steady stable life — a middle-class life — for people got shipped overseas. And the truth is, a lot of those jobs aren’t going to come back because of these efficiencies.”
But that doesn’t mean the U.S. economy has to suffer.
“America is a place where we can always create new jobs and new opportunities and new manufacturing. ...

giovani kun February 23rd, 2012, 05:46 PM Getting close to the finish line
UPDATE (10AM) ZA236 is flying back to Everett today. This is a strong indication that F&R/ETOPs testing is complete. The F&R/ETOPs certification testing for the GEnx-1B powered 787s was based out of Boeing Field. With the airplane heading back to Everett the testing appears complete and this airplane can be released in order to prepare it for delivery to Air India.
Boeing's efforts to complete 787 flight testing with the GEnx-1B engines are close to being completed if they aren't finish already. ZA236 has flown just under 153 flight test hours thus far. The aircraft needed to fly about 150 F&R/ETOPs flight hours to finish the certification program for this version of the 787. Boeing has not confirmed that they are finished with the tests as of yet. The true indication that they are complete is when ZA236 flies back to Everett to finish preparations for delivery to Air India.
As far getting other 787s ready for delivery, there are about 10 787 at the Everett Modification Center that are undergoing change incorporation or shim inspection in the rear fuselage as well as one airplane in 40-24. Three of these airplanes were aircraft that are close to being delivered (to Japan Airlines or ANA) including ZA177 (LN23, JA822J), ZA179 (LN33, JA225J) and ZA117 (LN42, JA806A). Once these airplanes are inspected and repaired (if needed) then they will continue they typical preparations for delivery. The list of 787s at EMC is below with the locations highlighted in green. These are the airplanes I anticipate will be the next few that will be delivered. Interestingly enough these include a few of the very early build airplanes, ZA100 (LN 7), ZA534 (LN 10), and ZA501 (LN 12).
Jim Albaugh, speaking in Singapore has said that up to 55 787s would have to be inspected and repaired for the flaw. To put it in proper context, this would include all the airframes from LN 4 to LN 59, the latter of which is currently in position 1 in 40-26 and just starting final assembly. This number also includes the 5 airframes that have already been delivered to ANA but does not include any airplanes sections that have yet to be delivered to Everett for final assembly.

GTR66 February 25th, 2012, 06:39 PM Thanks for the update. UA's plane looks good in the livery. When will it be delievered? Is there going to be massive delivery planed.
Momo1435 February 25th, 2012, 08:42 PM The 1st 787s for LAN and UA are now undergoing rework at the Everett Modification Center. There's no reason why they shouldn't be delivered when all the rework has been done. But I assume the earliest possible delivery date will be in April since the delayed February deliveries to JAL, Air India and ANA are already planned for March.
I don't think there will be a massive delivery, the workers can only do rework on a limited number of planes at once. It should go up when the 1st planes leave the final assembly that won't need any rework. The next production number that will go into final assembly is LN60, only after plane LN70 there won't be any rework needed anymore. Then the delivery rate will go up since they can delivered the reworked planes together with the new ones.

And Boeing will also be opening a new "surge line" in June to make sure they can make the delivery targets for this year.
Boeing Targets June For 787 Surge Line Startup
Boeing will activate the 787 surge line at Everett in June as it continues to ramp up production to five units per month by year-end.
Confirming the long-expected move, Pat Shanahan, senior VP and general manager of Airplane Programs at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, says the additional capacity is “risk protection.” The surge line is being put together at the former site of the 767 assembly area in Building 40-24.
As recently as last summer, Boeing described the surge line as a precautionary move and suggested that it may not be required. Now, with delays continuing to affect the production rate and only five 787-8s in service, the company sees the activation of the surge facility as vital to reaching its delivery targets for 2012.

giovani kun February 29th, 2012, 10:49 PM Boeing Receives Official Certificates for 787 World Records
EVERETT, Wash., Feb. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Jonathan Gaffney, president and CEO of the National Aeronautic Association, presented Boeing (NYSE: BA) with two certificates confirming the official status of the two world records earned by the 787 Dreamliner in late 2011.
The airplane earned records for completing the longest flight for an airplane in its weight class (440,924 to 551,155 lbs.) with a 10,336 nmi (19,142 km) flight to Dhaka, Bangladesh. This record had previously been held by the Airbus A330 with a 9,126 nmi (16,901 km) flight in 2002.
Following refueling in Dhaka, the crew continued eastbound and returned to Seattle 42 hours and 26 minutes after their initial departure, completing the fastest around-the-world trip for the same weight class at 470 knots (871 km/h). There was no previous around-the-world speed record for this weight class.
Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, welcomed Gaffney to an informal ceremony in Everett attended by more than 2,000 employees.
"These world records demonstrate what we have been saying about the 787 all along – it is a world-class product. The airlines told us they wanted an airplane that was fuel-efficient, durable and capable," said Albaugh. "That's what we are delivering with the Dreamliner."
Gaffney told employees, "Around-the-world records are extremely challenging, and Boeing should be very proud of the successful world and national records they achieved with these flights. We were proud to have had the opportunity to record and certify them."
He presented the certificates to two of the six pilots who flew the record-setting missions. Capt. Rod Skaar led the crew, which included former 787 chief pilot Capt. Mike Carriker.
"It's an honor to receive these certificates on behalf of all of the men and women of The Boeing Company," said Skaar. "It takes an amazing amount of talent and perseverance to create an all-new airplane. A lucky few of us get to fly the airplane. We are always well aware that we are carrying the pride of the entire company as we go."

"In addition, we want to offer an enhanced travel experience for our customers which we shall be able to do on these airplanes."
In addition to bringing big-jet ranges to mid-size airplanes, the 787 provides airlines with unmatched fuel efficiency using 20 percent less fuel than today's similarly sized airplanes. "The 787 is a key component of our fleet renewal strategy and Air Canada's future," said Ben Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Air Canada. "We are excited at the prospect of hosting the 787 for our 75th Anniversary. Our employees and special guests will see first hand the technologies that distinguish the 787, both in terms of improved operating performance and greater passenger comfort."
Made from composite materials, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the first mid-size airplane capable of flying long-range routes and will allow airlines to open new, non-stop routes preferred by the traveling public. As a result of innovative technologies, the airplane offers unparalleled operating economics, fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. More than 800 787s are on order by more than 50 airlines, a testament to the airplane's unique capabilities.

Momo1435 March 20th, 2012, 06:35 PM A couple of major costumers have publicly expressed their interest in the stretched 787-10X variant that is now expected to be launched at the end of this year.
Lufthansa, ALC vie to be 787-10X launch customer
Lufthansa and Air Lease Corp (ALC) are vying for launch customer status on Boeing's proposed stretched 787-10X.
Nico Buchholz, Lufthansa senior vice-president of corporate fleet, sees the aircraft as an ideal fit for the carrier as the airframe is not over-optimised to fly further than necessary for its route network.
The carrier has conducted extended evaluations of both the 280-seat 787-9 and 323-seat 787-10X to fill the approximately 200-to-300-seat fleet segment that is currently occupied by the Airbus A330-300, A340-300 and A340-600.
Boeing's newly-appointed senior vice-president of marketing, Mike Bair, says the 787-10X potentially provides a "absolutely astounding" improvement in performance, with 50% lower operating costs than the A340-600.
If Boeing moves ahead to "launch the airplane, we could be a definitive launch customer for the -10, in tandem with [ordering] some -9s. So that's in the oven," says Steven Udvar-Hazy, chief executive of ALC.

Boeing Receives Certification for 787 Dreamliner With GE Engines
EVERETT, Wash., March 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) received an amended type certificate today from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the 787-8 Dreamliner equipped with General Electric GEnx engines.
"This is a great day for our customers and for our team who worked tirelessly to ensure the Dreamliner offers breakthrough fuel efficiency, unprecedented performance and new levels of comfort," said Larry Loftis, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. "We are pleased to accept the FAA's confirmation of the safety and reliability of this airplane."
The amended type certificate from the FAA formally recognizes that the 787 with GE engines has demonstrated compliance with rigorous federal regulations. The achievement caps off the most robust flight and ground test program ever conducted in the company's history.
"This milestone completes the certification of the 787-8 airplane, and allows airlines to now operate the GE engine-powered 787 with both the baseline Block 4 engine and the PIP1 engine upgrade," said Mike Sinnett, vice president and chief project engineer for the 787 program. "It also represents the success of a remarkable partnership with the regulatory agencies around the world."
"This is the culmination of extraordinary work by teams from GE and Boeing," said Chuck Nugent, general manager of the GEnx engine program for General Electric. "GE Aviation is honored to power the Boeing 787 Dreamliner with its new GEnx-1B engine, and we look forward to seeing the aircraft-engine combination flying the skies around the world."
Initial type certification of the 787 with Rolls-Royce engines took place in August 2011. Each new combination of an airframe type and engine requires additional certification to validate the integrity of the design.
60 customers around the world have ordered more than 870 Dreamliners.

giovani kun March 23rd, 2012, 10:54 AM JAL to receive first 787 this weekend, possibly two more next month
UPDATE: I have just got confirmation that both JA822J and JA825J will be formally delivered to Japan Airlines on Sunday, March 25. I still don't know if fly away will occur for both the next day or not and I'm still not sure if Boeing is delivering JA806A on the same day.
Japan Airlines is preparing to take ownership of its first and possibly second 787 this weekend. I'm still trying to find out but ZA177 (JA822J, L/N 23) and ZA179 (JA825J, L/N 33) are supposed to be delivered this month with at least one to be delivered this Sunday (March 25) and possibly both being delivered on the same day. Fly away is scheduled for Monday March 26th at 4PM local time. It does seem certain that both ZA177 and ZA179 will be delivered this month.
According to sources, JA806A (ZA117, L/N 40) for ANA is scheduled to be delivered on March 25th as well. It would be an unusual delivery day for Boeing with the company delivering 787s to two customers that are competitors. This is not yet final though and I am trying to confirm. This airplane should also be delivered in March nonetheless.
For April, Boeing is planning to deliver 3 more 787s also all to ANA and JAL. ANA is tentatively scheduled to receive ZA105 (JA808A, L/N 42) around April 17th. Boeing has pulled out two more 787s to the Everett flightline, JA826J (ZA180, L/N 37) and JA827J (ZA181, L/N 38). Both are tentatively scheduled to be delivered to Japan Airlines but the date is uncertain. Again all this is tentative.
One observation which is unsurprising is that most of these airplanes are late build 787s (L/N 33 and higher). Boeing is expecting to work on the early builds and deliver them from now until early 2014. Boeing's first delivery to Air India is also a late build airplane, VT-ANH (ZA236, L/N 35). This airplane was flown to San Antonio for unknown reason though I suspect it is to probably do some last minute work. This airplane should deliver in May. Going forward into the summer we should start seeing deliveries made to Qatar in addition ot AI, JAL and ANA. United will come later in the fall as will LAN, Ethiopian and China Southern.

Forthcoming deliveries
LN40 / ZA117 / JA806A (ANA #6) : Has made 2 check-flights in the last week. Delivery rumoured for March 21st although based on the number of check-flights earlier frames made, that looks perhaps optimistic.
LN23 / ZA177 / JA822J (JAL #1) : Has been making check-flights in the last week. Delivery possible in March subject to the GEnx certification coming through.
LN33 / ZA179 / JA825J (JAL #2) : Has been making check-flights in the last week. Delivery possible in March subject to the GEnx certification coming through.
LN42 / ZA105 / JA808A (ANA #7) : Now gone from the flightline, presumably for tail work. Has not flown. Delivery in April looks most likely.
LN35 / ZA236 / VT-ANH (AIC #1) : Now back at Boeing Field after returning from India. Delivery to AI apparently linked to contractural dispute and now rumoured for May
LN29 / ZA233 / VT-AND (AIC #2) : Currently in San Antonio undergoing rework to where it transferred at the beginning of August. Should transfer back to Everett in the next couple of months.
LN38 / ZA181 / JA???? (JAL #3) : Probably the next delivery for JAL after LN23 & LN33. Last seen rolliong into the EMC with engines attached in late December.
LN47 / ZA506 / JA809A (ANA #8) : Not visible on the flightline but should be next ANA delivery after Ln40 & Ln42

Equario March 27th, 2012, 11:58 AM Moment that we all were waiting for:
JAL becomes second airline to receive Dreamliners
March 27, 2012 - 10:47AM
Japan Airlines took delivery of its first two Boeing 787 Dreamliners yesterday, after a delay of about three years while the plane-maker wrestled with development and production problems.
The delivery to JAL brings the total number of Dreamliners delivered to seven. The planes also are the first 787s to be powered by General Electric engines rather than Rolls Royce.
The airline, which has 45 Dreamliners on order, postponed Dreamliner service on several routes while it waited out another delay this year resulting from a manufacturing glitch.
"We were sorry there was a slight delay, but relieved the aircraft is finally ready," said JAL President Yoshiharu Ueki at a ceremony marking the occasion. "And the delay's impact was that the carrier's service from Japan to Moscow, to Delhi, to Beijing was delayed one month."
JAL had expected to receive its first Dreamliner by the end of February.
The Dreamliner is the world's first commercial airplane with an airframe made largely of carbon composites, making it lighter than a traditional aluminum airframe. The 787 boasts unprecedented fuel-efficiency and has won more than 870 orders.
The 787 is about three years behind its original schedule because of problems with Boeing's complex global supply chain.
"We know we were a little late, and we apologise for that," Jim Albaugh, chief executive of Boeing's commercial airplanes division, said at the ceremony. "We hope you'll forgive us."
Boeing, the world's second-largest commercial plane-maker after EADS unit Airbus, made first delivery of a Dreamliner last year to All Nippon Airways and is ramping up the production rate to 10 per month, a target many experts believe to be unattainable.
In early February, Boeing reported signs of "delamination" on the rear fuselage of some 787s. Delamination occurs when stress causes layered composite materials to separate.
Boeing has said it will take 10 to 14 days per plane to repair the glitch. The problem has caused some experts again to question the production rate target. Boeing has stood by its goal, saying the new issue may affect deliveries in the first part of 2012, but not in the longer term.
The company recently increased the 787 production rate to 3.5 per month from 2.5. Boeing is boosting production rates on all of its commercial airplane programs to meet increased demand.

Momo1435 March 29th, 2012, 05:43 PM In October last year it was announced that China Eastern would change theirs and Shanghai Airlines 787-8 orders, 24 in total for 45 737NGs (not MAX). This change was firmed up in this weeks order update:
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm
original news article:
http://atwonline.com/aircraft-engines-components/news/china-eastern-cancels-order-24-787-dreamliners-1017
If it was official late 2011, the total orders would have fallen below 800. But because of the big orders for Air France/KLM and JAL plus some smaller orders have been announced since the 1st announcement of the China Eastern conversion the number is now 851. But the total for this year has gone back in the negative, the 2012 Net Orders total is now -9.
Air New Zealand is also one of the smaller orders, in the most recent order update they firmed up 3 options for the 787-9.
I doubt that Boeing is sad about the conversion from 787 to 737, it's rumored the value remains the same. This just opens up some valuable places on the production line for other customers that have already waited long enough with all the delays.

J@nek April 9th, 2012, 07:09 PM So Toronto after 2013??
No, by the end of the first quarter of 2013, so probably March/April??
All of LOT's 767s will be replaced by 787s by April 2013. From then on the airline will see additional 787s added to the fleet, to a total of 8. After that additional 6 options may be converted into orders.
Therefore, we may see up to 14 787s in LOTs fleet by 2015-2016 or so.
YYZ will most likely be the last destination serviced by the 767s though. Expansion into the Asian market is priority for LOT now.
Momo1435 April 10th, 2012, 08:52 AM Looking at the 787 backlog I don't think, even if they would covert all their options right now that they can have all 6 extra 787s in their fleet by 2016.
PiotrG April 10th, 2012, 10:52 AM The 8th B787 will fly to Poland in 2015, so there is no chance for 6 extra airplanes in 2016, and now there is no need for it. I think this is a option for years 2016-2020, not earlier.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner
BOEING has announced that it is to showcase its new 787 Dreamliner plane in Manchester later this month.
The US-based company has announced the sixth leg of a tour to show off the new plane, which includes stops at six cities - Manchester, London, Oslo, Taranto in Italy, Washington DC, Dallas and St Louis. The Dreamliner will visit Manchester Airport on April 23.
Larry Loftis, vice president and general manager of Boeing's 787 program, said: "The Dream Tour has provided us with a great platform to show customers, partners, government officials and other stakeholders just what the team has achieved with the 787."
Andrew Harrison, chief operating officer of Manchester Airports Group, said: "The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been long awaited at this airport.
"It is an aircraft that is able to fly long distances with excellent fuel economy, so we are naturally delighted that Boeing has recognised the strategic importance that Manchester Airport will play in the roll-out of this special aircraft but we are also keen to show the scope it will provide to the wider region in the development of long haul services.
"I’m sure I won't be the only one watching it land for the first time on North West soil and it will receive a warm Manchester welcome."

Qatar Airways to Serve Atlanta, Chicago as 787 Deliveries Begin
Qatar Airways Ltd. plans to start flights to Atlanta, Chicago, Boston and Detroit within the next year, doubling its U.S. network, as the carrier begins receiving Boeing Co. (BA) 787 Dreamliners.
A daily New York service will also be increased to three flights a day, with the addition of links via cities in Eastern and Western Europe.

I decided to make a list of 787 routes that have been in some form officially announced so far. As in official announcement by the airliners or recent news articles. There are of course more rumored routes, but I haven't listed those. For example LOT only has announced the Chicago route, therefor it's in the list. But since it will also replace all the other 767 routes they will eventually be announced but there not in my list yet. The announcement like the British Airways announcement that the 787 will be used on Asian routes are also not in the list.
If you have any corrections or additions, please post them.

Momo1435 April 17th, 2012, 08:43 AM Boeing has delivered another 787 to ANA yesterday/today.
The delivery flight that is currently underway is special since it's the 1st time that the 787 is powered in part by sustainable biofuels. It's also the 1st transpacific flight using biofuels.

Next in line this month will be 2 more for JAL.
And with the approval of the government bail-out of Air India they should start to take delivery of their 1st 787s in the 2nd/3rd week of May.

Momo1435 April 18th, 2012, 09:58 AM Any chance 787 goes to Seoul any time soon? Aside from when Korean Air gets them
As you can see in my list a few posts back no 787 to Korea have been announced yet.
The biggest chance that you will see one very soon is if ANA will announce Seoul with 1 of their "domestic" 787s.
Other airlines that could send their 787s to Seoul before KE gets theirs are Qatar, Air Canada and maybe Air India.

"The 787 flew with biofuel made mainly from used cooking oil and emitted an estimated 30 percent less CO2 emissions when compared to today's similarly-sized airplanes. "
I'm guessing it was a blend of Jet AND BioFuels? Otherwise, that a LOT of cooking oil  This is awesome.
bagus70 April 18th, 2012, 07:10 PM Is that true that the range of Boeing 787 is comparable to that of elder Boeing 747 and Boeing 777ER?
Momo1435 April 18th, 2012, 08:40 PM These are the ranges according to Boeings official factsheets:
787-8 (http://www.boeing.com/commercial/787family/787-8prod.html): 7,650 to 8,200 nautical miles (14,200 to 15,200 kilometers)
787-9 (http://www.boeing.com/commercial/787family/787-9prod.html): 8,000 to 8,500 nautical miles (14,800 to 15,750 kilometers)
747-400ER (http://www.boeing.com/commercial/747family/pf/pf_400er_prod.html): 7,670 nautical miles (14,205 km)
777-300ER (http://www.boeing.com/commercial/777family/pf/pf_lrproduct.html): 7,930 nautical miles (14,685 km)
The 787s range is just above the 747-400ER and the 777-300ER. The 777-200LR is still the Boeing 7*7 with the longest range at 9,395 nautical miles (17,395 km).

On the internet I only found something where Rio de Janeiro was hinted as a future destination, but just as a possibility to what is possible with the range of the plane.
Having said this, it would have been better if I posted proof for all the routes in the list.

I think I would have found one when I was looking all those routes.
With just 2 international routes from 1 Japanese airliner it's probably just a bit too early for a website like a380flights.net. I have no doubt that someone will open such a website when more airlines will be receiving the plane.

btw.
This week the 1st 787 should run of the North Charleston, South Carolina factory production line. This will now undergo several tests since it's the 1st plane from this production line before it can be delivered to Air India this summer.
Meanwhile at the main production line in Everett, Washington the next 787 that should go into the final assembly line is production number LN66. According to Boeings most recent information this should be the 1st 787 that can go straight from production to delivery without rework. It might be a bit delayed since one of the subcontractors, Spirit in Wichita, Kansas was hit by a tornado last week and was out of business for 1 week. For the 787 they make among other parts the forward section of the fuselage.

GlasgowMan April 22nd, 2012, 08:10 PM Glasgow International to be home to the world's newest aircraft; the Boeing 787 Dreamliner
20 April 2012
Glasgow International Airport is the be home to one of the World’s newest aircraft as Thomson Airways confirm it will base one of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft at the airport.
Thomson Airways will be Britain’s first airline to fly the Boeing 787 and the airline has confirmed it will base one its Boeing 787s at Glasgow International Airport, making it the first and only airport in Scotland to handle the £62million brand-new long-haul jet.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has capacity for up to 228 passengers and is 20% more fuel-efficient than any other aircraft currently in operation. The 787 is also the first aircraft to be built almost entirely from composite materials.
The aircrafts composite fuselage structure enables a lower altitude cabin pressure of 6,000ft as opposed to the standard 8,000ft, which will lead to less travel related headaches, sickness and fatigue. Its use of advanced materials also means a higher cabin humidity which will reduce the symptoms of dryness and dehydration, which in turn will lead to a reduction in jet-lag.
The 787 Dreamliner also has the benefits of wider cabin aisles, higher ceilings, bigger windows and significantly quieter engines.
Thomson Airways will begin using its Glasgow based Boeing 787 to operate direct flights to Cancun, Mexico and Olrando, Florida from May 2013. Currently the airline uses its fleet of Boeing 767s to operate these flights.
The Glasgow to Cancun route, which is Scotland’s only direct route to Mexico, is one of the country’s fastest growing air-routes with the latest figures showing that the number of passenger travelling between the destinations grew by an impressive 21% in March. It is hoped the launch of the 787 from Glasgow could lead to more flights on existing popular routes, such as Cancun and see the introduction of other new long-haul routes.
Chris Browne, managing director of Thomson Airways, said: "We are thrilled to be flying the aircraft in our summer 2013 flying schedule from Glasgow International Airport, giving Scottish passengers the chance to travel on this amazing new aircraft."
Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow International Airport, said: "To be the first airport in Scotland to welcome Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner will be a huge honour and we are delighted Thomson Airways has decided to base one of its new aircraft at Glasgow International.
"The Dreamliner is at the cutting edge of aircraft design and with regards to comfort, it will provide Scottish passengers with a unique flying experience. The Dreamliner will undoubtedly prove a huge draw for Thomson Airways and we are looking forward to its arrival in May next year."

GlasgowMan April 23rd, 2012, 02:48 PM TUI Travel to reveal new aircraft livery at Dreamliner preview
23 April 2012
TUI Travel will reveal the new livery for its airline fleet at a UK preview event for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The Dreamliner, which represents an exciting new generation of aircraft, will fly into Manchester airport on Tuesday 24th April as part of its global ‘Dream Tour’ showcasing the new aircraft. Thomson Airways, a TUI Travel airline, will be the first UK customer to take delivery of the Dreamliner. 13 aircraft will join the TUI Travel fleet with other TUI Travel airlines TUIfly Nordic, Arkefly and Jetairfly also taking delivery of the Dreamliner.
During the event, Thomson Airways will reveal the brand new livery that will adorn the Group’s Thomson Airways, TUIFly Nordic, Arkefly and Jetairfly aircraft, which has a distinctive, dynamic wave design. This change will be accompanied by new uniforms for cabin crew and the new livery will also be reflected in destination.
Retaining the light blue colour currently seen on these TUI Travel airlines, the new livery introduces a dark blue shade which is known as ‘Dynamic Waves’. Also retained is the iconic ‘TUI Smile’ which will appear on all aircraft tailfins. This will be introduced as new aircraft are delivered and when aircraft are due to have their livery updated. All the Group’s 787s will carry the new livery.
Michael Lambertz, Chief Marketing Officer, TUI Travel, commented, “The launch of our new airline livery today is incredibly exciting and follows many months of research with designers, customers and colleagues. It is particularly gratifying to launch our new livery whilst showcasing the Dreamliner which will come into service for Thomson Airways next year. I believe we have created a livery that complements both the futuristic design of this aircraft and the other aircraft currently in our fleets.”
Peter Long, Chief Executive, TUI Travel said “I’m very pleased to be announcing our new livery and in the same week when we are able to preview the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, of which we are the first UK customer to take delivery. Both our new livery design and the new 787 aircraft reinforce our commitment to modern mainstream and this is a really exciting step for us. Our new ‘Dynamic Wave’ and uniform designs will enhance our group-wide brand recognition by establishing one distinctive ‘look’ across these airlines and I look forward to seeing it in place.”

giovani kun April 23rd, 2012, 11:14 PM It looks like we'll have the 2nd month this year with zero 787 deliveries :) we only have one ANA plane that it's delivery is in question
Momo1435 April 24th, 2012, 08:12 AM ANA already took delivery of a 787 this month, it was officially delivered (paperwork) on 04/14 and the JA808A was flown out to Tokyo on 04/17 (the biofuel flight that I posted about).

great pics of what coming out of thomson pretty soon.
giovani kun April 25th, 2012, 12:49 PM 2 more JAL 787s to deliver tomorrow
Boeing is set for another 787 double delivery to customer Japan Airlines. This time two more late built 787s will be delivered on April 25th. Fly away to Japan is expected around the 26th or 27th, in time for JAL to start 787 service to Moscow and Delhi in May. Japan Airlines is expecting to have 10 787s in its fleet by March 31, 2013. There are still 3 more JAL 787s at Everett that have yet to finish change incorporation. The two 787s that will be delivered are ZA180 (LN 37, JA826J) and ZA181 (LN38, JA827J).
Boeing is preparing ZA506 (LN47, JA809A) for delivery to ANA. This is probably not going to happen until May with it's first flight sometime in the first two weeks of May. This will be ANA's 8th 787. Again Boeing is still clearing out the late and very late built aircraft but clearing out the first 23 787s built has been very slow (LN7 - LN29)
Additionally, it's expected that Boeing will finally deliver Air India's first Dreamliner though the first one ZA236 (LN 35, VT-ANH) is still in San Antonio. It's sister, ZA233 (LN29, VT-AND) has been flying around San Antonio and may be flying to Paine Field right now. This airplane will still need to have its interior installed when it gets back to Everett so it won't be ready for delivery until late May at the earliest.
Finally on Friday Boeing will roll out the first 787 to be built at Boeing Charleston. This airplane, ZA237 (LN46) is destined for Air India and should be delivered around June. Given that this is the first 787 to be built at Charleston, Boeing will probably take its time doing the needed gauntlet testing before conducting its first flight. Boeing will then send the plane to Amarillo, Texas where Leading Edge Aviation Services is contracted to paint the Charleston built Dreamliners. Boeing Charleston doesn't have a paint hangar unlike Everett but I can see that changing with Boeing's acquisition of more land near the plant. The airplanes will then be flown back to Charleston where the interiors will be fitted and further Boeing and customer test flights will be completed.

And as the 1st 787 that won't need any rework afterwards will soon go into assembly the costs of producing a 787 will also go down.
Boeing: 787 unit costs to drop 50% by summer
Unit costs to produce a 787-8 by July will 50% less that the first aircraft delivered to All Nippon Airways less than a year earlier, Boeing chief executive Jim McNerney said today.
The milestone will coincide with the first aircraft to be built from start to finish at the company's Everett, Washington assembly plant without today's post-certification modifications.
The so-called "right to pre-flight" Airplane 66 will represent a quantum shift in unit price. One analyst during the earnings call estimated the unit price of Airplane 66 to be approximately $186 million, slightly less than the listed sales price of $193.5 million. Of the unit costs, Boeing chief financial officer Greg Smith, while not disputing the analysts numbers, would only say that the first aircraft that avoids the post-production modifications would see a "50% cost improvement on a unit basis".

swe April 27th, 2012, 11:02 AM Great pics from the production line!
...i haven´t seen so many screens in a cockpit before
Bannor April 27th, 2012, 03:34 PM Are those routes actually confirmed, in other words have you got proof?
On the internet I only found something where Rio de Janeiro was hinted as a future destination, but just as a possibility to what is possible with the range of the plane.
When it comes to Norwegian, they have hinted at routes to Rio, Cape Town, Hawaii and several potential chinese cities.
Knowing the scandinavian market well, I think Rio is the route with the highest market potential there, so I'd give it a 95% chanse of comming.
In regards to Cape Town and Hawaii I think those are just examples of routes they have just thrown out. The potential of scandinavian intercontinental flights are towards america and asia. Not africa seeing that would be on the other side of europe. So the chanse of taking market shares from the rest of europe would be miniscule. Hawaii could be a potential seeing Norwegian is now putting its long distance flight headquarters in Bangkok. So you might see a BKK - Hawaii flight. On the other hand, I have no idea how large of a market that would have. As for chinese cities a huge problem is that we require visa's to travel there from europe. If it had been enough to go by passport, I think we could have seen alot of different options, but right now only hong kong seems like a good option. But the hong kong route does have strong competition from cathay through london, or from qatar airways through qatar. Shanghai has a great market potential too, and the competition on that route is very limited, but then again you require visa... On the beijing route, Finnair is a strong competitior although a bit more expensive. So shanghai has the best chance there. Although airport expenditures might move them to pick another city nearby instead. So seeing something like Nanjing or Hangzhou wouldn't surprice me either if Pudong/Hongqiao prices themselves out.
Back to the norwegian market, and I see huge potentials towards Orlando or Miami, Florida. Or even Cancun, although the competition on the cancun route seems to grow in the comming years. So there may be other routes not mentionned that could intervene with the ones mentionned as potential destinations. I think we will see 4-6 destinations in total here (minus the 2 to NY and BKK)
The problem with HK and Miami/Orlando as destinations is that a connecting flight from BKK and NY could be financially smarter. but if we do see those routes, it won't be more than 1 or 2 times a week.
Cancun and Shanghai has a larger potential in regards to connecting flights being less of a competition, although the markets themselves are smaller.
Rio doesn't have any of these issues. The offshore, shipping and energy sector in Brazil near Rio has close ties to the scandinavian sector in those areas. You have alot of work on infrastructure going on in that region of brazil, so access to sao paulo is improving. And you have alot of potential in tourism. People go there today and it is hard to get a roudtrip for less than 9000nok. Norwegian with its comming cost policy will easily put the prce down to at least 4500. Pluss you have the football world cup and olympics comming up in Rio, handing Norwegian a huge potential to market the route.
grjplanes April 27th, 2012, 05:56 PM Cape Town should definately be on their radar for seasonal flights at least.
Currently South Africa receives between 9 - 10 0000 visitors from Scandinavia (Sweden, Denmark, Norway) excl. Finland monthly during the South African summer season. Between 3-4 000 in the quieter months.
Sweden often falls around the top 10 tourist markets to South Africa. Norway alone represents about 25-30% of the Scandinavian total, so above 2000 a month in peak periods. That alone should be able to sustain at least 2 or 3 weekly flights, and ofcourse with nonstop flights and cheaper fares the market will be boosted...the Scandinavian market kept growing over the last few years through bad economic times...
And ofcourse there is also South Africans travelling to Scandinavia!
Bannor April 27th, 2012, 07:41 PM +the Scandinavian market kept growing over the last few years through bad economic times...
Interresting that you mention this, because scandinavia doesn't have bad economic times at all. Denmark and Finland might have some issues with Nokia etc, but Norway and Sweden is flying through the "crisis" without any setbacks.
Now you have to look at Europe in a divided fashion. Some countries here haven't been much affected at all when it comes to peoples salarises and expenditures.
And what is striking about the tourism industry is that europeans don't want to save money on not going on vacation, but we want more for our money when travelling. So delivering cheap flights to cheaper countries in other continents is a booming industry here.
Perhaps you are right about Cape Town.

Momo1435 May 7th, 2012, 06:28 PM It looks like Air India won't be flying their 787 to Melbourne anytime soon.
Air India to use Dreamliner on domestic routes to cut cost
New Delhi: Air India plans to deploy the Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft on domestic routes to save on fuel, train the crew and add flexibility to its operations by flying out to select overseas destinations.
The first of the 27 Boeing 787 aircraft is expected to join the fleet at the end of the month.
“A key feature of the aircraft is fuel saving; it consumes 20 percent less fuel than other aircraft. The proposal to deploy the aircraft on domestic routes will help us save on high jet fuel cost which is on domestic routes,” a senior Air India official told IANS.
The domestic air turbine fuel (ATF) prices have been a huge concern for the aviation industry, as the jet fuel sold domestically is 50-60 percent higher than international prices due to the addition of sales tax and value added tax by the states.
“Initially we have proposed that the aircraft be utilised on some domestic routes such as Mumbai-Delhi. This is being proposed keeping in mind the high-end corporate as well as general demand in the sector,” the official said, not wishing to be named.
According to the official, the aircraft could also fly out to Dubai and Singapore.

Guess who retweeted this news...... Boeing.
Will AA finally firm up their 787 order? They reached a purchase agreement with Boeing for 42 787-9's (+58 rights) in 2008 but it was never firmed up. Since they are still under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection it would be quite something if they will announce something big as this. .
WatcherZero May 13th, 2012, 06:56 PM They have a net of -6 orders for the 787 this year after 25 cancellations so they really need some positive sales news.
Momo1435 May 13th, 2012, 09:26 PM The AA order didn't get firmed up on Friday. But that should happen later this year otherwise the agreement will expire, and it doesn't look like AA will let that happen. On top of that the Farnborough Airshow 2012 is coming up in July, you can count on some more orders there. Like for Qatar Airways that will be showcasing their 1st delivered 787 at the show. Since they still have 30 options this might be a good moment to firm up some of those options. As JAL and Air New Zealand have already done earlier this year, it's very likely that more airlines will follow. I doubt that this year will end with a negative sales number for the 787.

kgl May 14th, 2012, 04:47 PM Air Nirgeria orders 4 B787s :
Air Nigeria has embarked on a growth plan to emerge as one of a few African airlines to own the high capacity but cost efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, as the airline has ordered and will be paying for four of the airplanes to ply its international routes. The planes will be delivered by the third quarter of 2014.

that's exactly what was on my mind watching it
Momo1435 May 14th, 2012, 08:18 PM the AA livery is meh.
That's the problem with the composite body of the 787, you can't have the standard shiny aluminum look of the other AA planes.
The grey livery in the picture is just a recreation of the livery they had on their A300s for some time back in the day.
http://widebodyaircraft.nl/a300-30.htm
They are considering a new livery for 787 that will most likely be different then the one in the picture.

Their order is depending on the approval of the pilots who have to sign a new contract with AA before the order can be firmed.

All small orders count, and since the 787 is fantastic airplane for these kind of smaller airlines we will see more of these orders in the coming years.
Will Ethiopian be receiving their 787s shortly, in-time for the planned launch of Johannesburg and Dubai flights on 15 June?
The latest new article about the delivery date of the Ethiopian 787s states: "with deliveries to start later this year". And that is also more realistic looking at the current status of their 3 787s that are still waiting for the necessary rework at the Boeing factory in Everett.

actually, this looks much better than chrome shiny livery (which is so 70es). but it is probably the most boring livery in the world.

Momo1435 May 18th, 2012, 11:05 AM Even though there are already 2 assembled 787s for LAN waiting for modifications the 1st 787 they will receive is going into final assembly. This one won't need rework and can be delivered straight out of the factory, although it usually takes just over a month between assembly and delivery. This means that it could be delivered in August. But LAN also say that the delivery will take place at the end of 2012, somehow they have decided to wait a bit longer.
LAN’s first 787 Dreamliner enters Boeing’s final assembly factory
LAN’s first 787 Dreamliner entered final body join Tuesday at Boeing’s final assembly factory in Everett, Washington. Final body join is the first step in final assembly of this super-efficient airplane. Major parts for LAN’s 787 entered Boeing’s factory last week. LAN will be the first Latin American carrier to operate the 787 when they take delivery of the first airplane later this year.
The 787 assemblies come to Everett in several completed sections from around the world by Boeing’s custom-built 747 Dreamlifter. After going through Pre-integration, where some assembly work was performed, LAN’s 787 was moved into what is called Position 1, or final body join. During final body join, the seven major pieces become one including the wings. Systems installation also begins in Position 1.
The next steps include the airplane going to the paint hangar, the installment of the interior of the cabin, and final tests before delivery to LAN towards the end of 2012.
LAN Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner
LAN will be the first airline in Latin America, and one of the first in the world, to receive this aircraft, with the first delivery expected in late 2012 and delivery of 32 total aircraft over the next 10 years. This represents an investment of U.S. $3.5 billion and marks one of the largest investments in the Company’s history. The configuration of the cabin on the first LAN 787-8 aircraft will include 217 Economy class seats and 30 seats for Premium Business class.
The destinations the LAN 787-8 will service during its first year of operations will be Santiago, Chile, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lima, Peru, Los Angeles, California, Madrid, Spain and Frankfurt, Germany. These routes will be gradually integrated during the aircraft’s first year of service.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For this month it looks like there will just be 1 delivery, Air India should receive their 1st 787. The reason for the slowdown in deliveries this month is a Flight Management Computer (FMC) software update. That requires extra testing that is being done with a 787 destined for ANA. Above the front doors there's a sticker that says "experimental". It also has an N registry, and not it's future JL registry like the other 787s had for their regular delivery test flights for JAL and ANA. You can see it all on this recent video.
diablo234 May 25th, 2012, 12:53 AM I have also heard that United is also going to use the new 787 Dreamliner for their Houston-Lagos route eventually replacing the B777 that is currently in use for this route.
Momo1435 May 26th, 2012, 07:39 PM ^^ It was initially announced that the Houston - Lagos route would be launched with the 787 in 2011. But because of the delays with the 787 they have launched the service with the 777 instead. Since then there hasn't been any official announcement for when the 787 will replacing the 777.
A new order is on the way.
Lion Air Near To Deal For 10 Boeing 787s
Indonesia's Lion Air is close to signing a deal for 10 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner passenger jets, with a total list price of USD$1.9 billion, as the budget carrier aims to tap the long-haul market.
Two sources involved in the deal told reporters that Lion Air prefers the newer carbon-composite 787 to the Airbus A330. The deal is expected to be signed in Jakarta on June 8 as Lion Air celebrates its 12th anniversary.
After their mega 737 Max order it's only logical that they went for Boeing. I wouldn't be surprised if they get some early production slots for the 787 because of the 737 order.
krnboy1009 May 26th, 2012, 08:14 PM JAL could use the 787 to restablish de Tokyo-São Paulo route.
They would still need to stop somewhere before going to Sao Paulo.
