These are some pictures that I took last Saturday. ;)

I don't know. :sly: First of all, I wouldn't compare these two cities. The only thing that they have in common is population. Los Angeles has 16 million people and Sao Paulo 18.

Sao Paulo is very dense. It has a sea of buildings. On the other hand, Los Angeles is all spread out and it has a never ending sea of houses. :tongue3: Sao Paulo has ( or seems to have) a real city life, while Los Angeles, with its 16 million pop and world famous mmm things, such as Hollywood Blvd, Sunset St, the Hollywood sign, Beveryly Hills, Disney, freeways, malls, etc... doesn't have a real city life. I mean, even a 1 million Latin American city would beat Los Angeles when we talk about city life.

My vote goes to SP, even though I live in LA.

Anyhow, I went to Santa Monica and I took some pics. Here they are. ;)

thanks. Its amazing tht you can see the ocean and the ships from there. mount wilson is in the Angeles forest above La Canada. You take the 2 all the way up (about 20 miles) until a road that veers to the right and is about 4 -5 miles from mount wilson. Baldy is not on the way, it is off the 10 or 210 freeway from the mountain exit. i think you exit and go up the mountain until you hit it, about 45 minutes from most of the LA basin. the grapevine didnt get much snow from this, but you can always head up to mountain high, wrightwood or big bear. MT HIGH got about 9 feet of snow from this past storm and is about an hour from LA. Take the 210 to the 15 to the 138 and your there.

That's one of the best views in LA. It's looking down on the Hollywood Freeway and Hollywood Bowl. The pic was taken at a park on Mullholland in Hollywood. If you're going there from Hollywood, just take Franklin Ave. to Outpost Dr. Outpost winds around up the hill and when you get to Mullholland, take a right, and you're there.

That first picture had to be taken around 1991 or so. Cal Plaza 2 isn't even up, and the 777 Building isn't even finished. That picture was taken from a book called 'Above Los Angeles.' There's no such thing as "safe". You could be hurt anywhere in LA. Once you live here, it doesn't seem as sprawled out as it seems. It's a really large city, and if you don't know your way around you could be way far from where you wanna go. And everyone thinks this is such an auto-oriented city(which it is), but the mass transit system is nowhere near bad. I've been to Atlanta and Dallas, and THAT'S bad mass transit systems. Buses only come like every hour, and take you pretty much nowhere. On the other hand, LA has 73 miles of rail and 183 bus lines that take you pretty much anywhere you need to go. And that's just MTA. Almost all the largge cities have their own bus lines that service the city more. Some examples are the Carson Circuit(which I take from school every day), Culver City Bus Lines, Santa Monica Blue Bus, Torrance Transit, Cerritos on Wheels, Compton Renaissance, Long Beach Transit(second largest system in the county), Palos Verdes bus system, and San Pedro community connection. Yeah, it's that big.

LosAngelesSportsFan

I love LA but it does have its faults. i would never want to leave LA, but i would change a few things including adding rail everywhere, more infill development and better city services. Some parts of the city are very very nice and others need some tender love and care. I have never felt unsafe in LA, from Hollywood to Downtown to the beach cities. Dont believe all the hype on TV and movies. LA, has a low crime rate compared to other cities, and crime is heading way down, including this year where crime is down 24% as of last week, on top of double digit declines the last two years. Im really excited over all the development in Downtown LA, Hollywood, and Long Beach as well as the new rail lines that are gonna open by 2009 and beyond. The future is bright for LA.

As LASportsFan said, don't believe everything you see on TV regarding life and crime in LA. Sure, 15 years ago, LA was a pressure cooker of tension. Which resulted in the LA riots of 92. But LA is in the midst of a rebirth. Downtown espically..and it all started with both the Staples Center and the Disney Hall being built.

For me, I think that LA freeways are apart of it's psyche. Everyone knows about them. Personally, I like them. Granted, I would love to see a massive light rail/subway system. But (for me anyway), the bus is fine. I work in Century City (LA's second downtown) and live in Silverlake. Silverlake is a very hilly area of LA..not too far from downtown. Thank god for stairs. I take two buses to get to Century City: the 604 to Santa Monica Blvd then the 304 down Santa Monica Blvd. Buses run every 5 minutes or so.

Plus, I can take the bus and take the Blue Line if I want to go to Long Beach Pride. :)

And I want to move from Silverlake to a loft downtown. I'm eying Santee Courts..(However I wish it was 1100 Wilshire...)

Same with LosAngelesSportsFan and Threehundred what them said to you.

Crime in LA have been worst in around late 80's and early 90's. Murders was increased to over 1,000 between 1,800 since 1988 until 1995, it went down to 450 between 550 every years but it striked again in 2002 so it went down again. LA has some rough neigborhood likes South Central, some part of Inglewood, Compton, North Long Beach and some part in East LA. I have never feels unsafe in LA so you will be fine in LA. Just use common sense for good.

Los Angeles are growing more and more new business and job, alot of development and communities renewal. San Fernando Valley has alot of development on commerical area and new homes.
