Sorry guys, but the tent has been taken down. It was built for a one night wedding gala, I think for someone from the Tamimi family (they own the Safeway supermarket chain in Saudi Arabia).....one of the palaces had staff and food services streaming in and out all day, and was lavishly decorated on the outside.

Nice houses! But very confusing topic ;). At the end I believe nothing
better then humbleness and life simplicity. Hopefully the residents are as
happy and beautiful from the inside as their houses.

Sorry gys about the topic....I had in mind to post pics of the ARAMCO building, and the Dhahran residential quarters, but for some reason i kept on having trouble with that, so I just posted these pics. sorry

Hello,

very nice pics.

I noticed that many of these houses have an Italianate/Mediterranean rather than Arabic style (at least from what I can tell). How come ? Who lives in those villas ? Wealthy Saudi families or wealthy expat. families ?

Anas Anani
March 20th, 2005, 02:56 AM
They arent italian, btw, They are mixed but you can call it Mediterranean. Its houses for middle class saudi families and expats thought a wealthy expate would prefer dubai on saudi arabia.

I didn't actually say Italian but italianate. I simply meant that they have some elements of that. But I am no expert on architecture so I could be wrong.

Anyways, thanks for the info

Anas Anani what do you mean when you say a wealthy expat would prefer Dubai over Saudi Arabia?? The Kingdom pays the highest salaries BY FAR (they had an article about it in Gulf Business Magazine). My parents know a lot of people that went to Dubai when they got job offers, but came back to Saudi Arabia within less than a year. They said Dubai is a nice place to go have fun and just relax, but the services, amenties, houses and salaries in Saudi Arabia are MUCH better.

Urbane....this style of houses has been very popular in Saudi Arabia for the past few years. All the new houses you see springing up in the suburbs have Mediterranean touches, I guess the owners picked the style up during vacations in Monte Carlo and Marbella, and tell the developers and architects to replicate the designs.

I wouldn't say Dhahran is better than Dubai, but yes expats' salaries are pretty high in Saudi. I think that Dubai is very copetitive job market. In Saudi the employers have to pay western expats high mohtly checks to make them come over. I know a geophysisit American in ARAMCO in his 30s. He gets paid over $10,000 per month. That's $120,000 + house + car + health insurance.

I'm not so sure Bahraini Spirit...the way it was phrased was pretty sarcastic, and VERY rude, if you ask me.

SkyFan, what I was trying to say is that the compounds that westerners are being accomodated in, in Saudi Arabia, and the benefits and salaries we get in the Kingdom are much better than what one can possibly get anywhere in the world, otherwise you would have seen a HUGE exodus of people from the country after the terror attacks last year. I wasn't trying to say Dhahran or Khobar or anything is better than Dubai, I was just trying to say that the rewards of working in Saudi Arabia are greater than those of working in the UAE

I think Smussuw was making fun at how companies that employ Westerners in the Kingdom, pay for school tuitions, compound rents, and most of the utilities WHICH IS PART OF THE CONTRACT. So he was probably being sarcastic and thought it would be funny to say that the companies should also include family pet (dog) expenses too.

Because they dont even get in their mother countries 1/100 of the salaries they get here. And most of them arent really educated. Most of them are just plain stupid with no brain at all. They like to be called as experts here. They add nothing to the country except wasting the government money.

Oh wow smussuw, you really have some nerve to call us stupid..."with no brain" WOW, can you then please explain why GCC nations are paying expats such high salaries?? Because you like us??!! I don't think so, your attitude towards expats has been made clear by your recent comments, not just in this thread by in others also. I really don't want to offend anyone....but smussuw, say the truth, what do you think would happen if all the expats left the Gulf region?? all the regions economies would come to an ALMOST complete halt. Dubai would be at the head of the list. So please don't go around calling us stupid and worthless, because i'm starting to get fed up with having to deal with all this racism. True my father is getting payed much more than he would get payed here in the US, but trust me, if they were to decide to leave the Kingdom and come back to the US, he would still be looking at a $100,000 + job, so obviously we're not that worthless.

I think its the 'White Skinned People' (Not to be racist and no offence) who are layed off people in their own countries and then come to the gulf and call themselves experts. They get like allowances for everything imaginable even plane tickets. They get paid for not working. They would be on well-fare in their own countries. No wonder they dont leave despite being in danger of their lives.

Its the poor muslim people and other regional people who actually work. They work much more and but still dont get paid no where near the westeners.

Don't get offended or start trippin. Accept the facts as they are. You guys are eatin away the wealth of the gulf for doin nothing.

what danger it always been dangerous over there ,and what about the local workers aren't they in danger, if a terrorist would attack he will atack every thing in his way does not matter if he was a local or a foreigner, every one have equal chance to be killed ,therefore everyone should get paid the same amount of bling bling ..........:goodnight
