As the pic above shows, the reason London is so great is that it has a skyline to rival that of Sao Paolo in terms of spread: not in terms of density but in terms of there being an iconic world famous building nearly everywhere you look, from Canary wharf, to the City and the Shard, to Westminster, to BT, to Wembley, and the Olympic site. On their own each of these might be rivalling cities like Frankfurt and Sydney, but together the iconicness and sheer range of different types of notable buildings all around the London skyline make it easily an equal to NYC and Hong Kong. The only thing that stopped me from giving it 10/10 was the fact that the Pinnacle and cheese grater haven't been built yet.

Great to see how far the skyline of my city of birth and true home has come over the last 10 years especially. The London of my childhood pretty much had no skyline (just T42, or NatWest Tower as it was called back then). What's also cool is that it's still growing and is still a work in progress, and thanks to this site, I get to see it grow and evolve more and more each day.

I know London is not NYC or Tokyo in terms of skyline (and may never be), but it has a pretty decent skyline for a European city, especially as it had hardly any tall buildings just 20 years ago due to architectural conservatism (opposition to tall buildings).

How many different lighting schemes does Heron tower have... it is like a christmas tree in every picture... but lit differently every time.

They're all great and make the skyline so much better.

I never thought Heron Tower would get such good lighting schemes.

+1 It looks absolutely magnificent at night.

I think other towers in The City will get some unusual lighting schemes during the Olympics.

Can't wait to see the Pinnacle lit up at night!

And I know that the 'cheese grater' will have that blue and red lighting on the straight side.

i'll give it 8.0 It's looking good with great design, but the skyline is still weak and too spread apart. It's the kind of skyline you have to zoom in, unlike places like Hong Kong, Shanghai or NYC where you can't zoom out are enough. With all the construction. It's gonna look great in next 10 years.

If I just count Highrises then there are not many beyond certain area near London Bridge and canary Whraf.

Yeah I have to say giving this skyline a 4.5 is trolishly pathetic.

Better than Canary Wharf, but I don't really see the point of having separate threads since both skylines are rather small.

I think its justified by the importance of The City in the broader city. If we could image international phone calls and E communication as the travel of "virtual money" that square Mile would reveal itself as the focus of the world. it deserves a thread.

Firstly. - They are miles apart.

Secondly - They are far from small. Maybe because the city is so vast it looks small but unless you've been you wouldn't know. If you clustered all the towers in London together it wouldn't be to far off Manhatten.
