Sana maging electric gabos na jeep at tricycle digdi sa Albay. Tutal magayon naman talaga ini.
Advantages: Less air and noise pollution
Eco-friendly

Electric Tricycle: http://kalatas.com.au/2011/04/philippines-launches-electric-tricycles/

Embarcadero de Legazpi have 6 units of E Jeeps & several tuktok tricys
first in Bicol.

Sana, with the new budget release for the runway, hoping that 2013, BIA will be operational as the target date.

LGU Daraga now will put up CCTV cameras within the centro and Legazpi will soon install the same.

More infra construction and clearing operations to private lands going to southern barangays of Daraga i've been observed this past few days, look the domino effects of the BIA, and take note, lot prices seems getting higher and higher, Jaucian Village former selling price started from 1,000/sq. m., but now, its already 3,500. and selling like hot cakes, buyers mostly OFW's and the houses, wow, pagarayunan sana.

with 97 hotels, resorts, inns..etc in albay its easy to estimate that at the average of 20 rooms/establishment X 97 establishments=1,940 rooms for the whole of Albay...so it could probably be at 2,300 rooms all in all...

Greetings!

I once saw a picture of Calderon Bldg fronting 7th day advestist church posted in here. Can anyone refer the link? Or any picture near that structure, few meters behind it is the residence of the Aspe family. I'll be needing it for a point reference to an address in washington drive.

Thanks.

Dante should be credited for a job well done.

I have not seen any other forumer who has posted so many pictures including those places I have not seen nor visited.

He deserves a pat in the back.

A one man information machine.

Dante's Thread? Why not? He deserves that honor and the title for all his hardwork.

Go Dante.

What do you expect in this busy basin after the new modern terminal completed ?

I can already imagine the improvement in here.

Super gayon, another attraction at EDL.

we will be seeing another man made attraction at the legazpi seaport...probably next year....a modern seaport terminal!!

hahahaha, i pity persons like him, for commenting such.

Taking pics and info is such a tough job/hobby.

I enjoyed traveling places, "Huwag maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan".

Can you travel without gas?

Thanks to those people who have appreciated my photos, its really educational and informative.

At any rate, thank you for your negative feedback.

Well appreciated.

sana man po mas lalong maging strikto ang implementation kan no smoking sa Legazpi. tatawan ko ki tip ang mga awtoridad: magtambay sinda sa LKY Transport Hub sa laog mismo kan bus terminal building ta so ibang tindahan dyan nagpapabakal ki sigarilyo na patago. maski ngani may nakapost na no smoking padagos pa man ang pag-sigarilyo kan ibang pasaway na pasahero. :bash: ta daw dai iyan nasisita kan mga sikyu dyan? igwa kamong porsyento?:bash:

Festivals galore in Albay

IT is another colorful celebration of culture, craft and cuisine as the province of Albay marks three festivals in Tabaco City and the towns of Camalig and Polangui this June.

According to Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, the festivities rediscovers the province’s history and cultural heritage, promote tourism and showcase people’s skills of the said localities.

He said that the festivals reflect the color and diversity of the towns situated around the foot of Mayon Volcano

Festivities kicked off with the month-long Pulang Angui Festival of Polangui which relives the origins of the town.

Coinciding with the town fiesta in honor of Sts. Peter and Paul, the locus of the festivity is the street dancing presentation on June 24 which reenacts the legend of Pulang Angui, a beautiful maiden during the town’s olden days after whom the municipality is named after.

The Search for Mutya ng Pulang Angui unreels on June 27, which is known to produce candidates for national beauty pageants.

Action shifts to Camalig for the Pinangat Festival which runs until June 24 and brings to the fore its culinary pride–the "pinangat".

Regarded as a signature Bicol delicacy, pinangat is a vegetable dish made of shredded gabi leaves, red ginger, tiny shrimps (balaw) or a slice of salted fish or pork and crushed pepper. The recipe is wrapped in gabi leaves, tied in bundles and cooked in coconut milk in a clay pot.

Celebrations conclude with the street presentation and Ginang ng Camalig search on June 22 and the patronal fiesta on June 24.

Acknowledged as Albay’s heritage town, Camalig is known for its rows of ancestral homes, archaeological sites and the postcard-pretty St. John Church which serves as repository of pre-Spanish relics.

Merry-making shifts to Tabaco City for the Tabak Festival until June 25 which brings to the fore the city’s booming cutlery industry.

Dubbed as the country’s "cutlery capital," Tabaco is a major producer of quality scissors, knives and bolos because of its skilled traditional blacksmiths.

The events-filled festivity also features musical concerts, sports tournaments, jobs and livelihood fairs, and opening of the National Museum branch.

Festivities reach fever pitch on June 22 with the Tabak Street Dance and Exhibition which retraces the origin of the city’s popular craft. The evening rocks with an entertainment-filled City of Love’s Constellation of Stars which will feature the hottest musical and showbiz celebrities.

Situated on the eastern seaboard of Albay, the city is an important commercial, fishing and tourism hub because of its strategic location.

Albay suspends classes, evacuates villagers as ‘Falcon’ passes Bicol
By Mar S. Arguelles
Inquirer Southern Luzon
11:16 am | Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — Classes in all levels in Albay were suspended Thursday and the authorities started moving to safer ground villagers threatened by flooding and landslides as Tropical Storm “Falcon” passed near the Bicol region, bringing rains.
The weather bureau raised public storm Signal No. 1 in four Bicol provinces, meaning these areas were expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorm while seas in the eastern and western seaboards were going to be rough to very rough with waves as high as 3.7 to 5.5 meters high.
The Albay Provincial Safety and Emergency Management Offic (APSEMO) dispatched on Thursday six military trucks to evacuate people living in low-lying areas and mountain slopes in the municipalities of Guinobatan, Oas, Polangui and Libon, as well as some areas in Legazpi City.
Albay Governor Joey Salceda, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said he ordered all classes in the province suspended and directed local disaster councils affected by flooding to immediately evacuate people at risk should the weather worsen.
Salceda said the evacuation began Wednesday evening in the flood-prone villages of Subcad, Laniga and Gabon in the munipality of Polangui.
He said also issued an advisory directing maritime authorities to prevent small ships and other vessels from leaving various ports in the province.
The Philippine Coast Guard on Thursday suspended maritime operations in the provinces of Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte due to the strong winds.
The PCG report said that as of 6 a.m. Thursday, there were 210 passengers, three buses, 15 trucks, one light vehicle and nine cargo trucks and three foreign vessels stranded in the Port of Tabaco.
All municipal and city disaster risk reduction management councils were advised to be on 24-hour alert and to take the necessary contingency measures in areas vulnerable to landslides and flash floods.
Disaster authorities here also advised villagers living near river channels not to attempt to cross flash floods and swelling rivers.
Civil Aviation authorities said the airlines decided to cancel flights to and from Manila.
Meanwhile, the government of the island municipality of Rapu-rapu has alerted officials of 10 villages identified by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau as highly vulnerable to landslide. These are Mancao Villahermosa, Bilbao, Binosawan, Calanaga, Liguan, Caracaran, Morocborocan, Nagcalsot and Bagaobawan.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 a.m. bulletin that Tropical Storm Falcon continued to threaten extreme Northern Luzon.
Falcon as of 4 a.m. was located 250 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It was moving west northwest at a speed of 19 kph.
Pagasa raised Signal No. 1 in the provinces of Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan, Babuyan, and the Batanes Group of Islands.

(MAL/JMM, PIA V)

Bicol’s disaster plans and strategies vie for Gawad Kalasag 2011

by Marlon A. Loterte
LEGAZPI CITY, June 22 (PIA) -- Local governments, other government agencies and private entities in the Bicol region vie anew for this year’s highly competitive selection in disaster risk reduction program implementation, the Gawad Kalasag 2011.
Gawad “Kalasag”, which stands for “KAlamidad at Sakuna LAban, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan” is a recognition program of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) for excellence in disaster risk management and humanitarian assistance.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Bicol director Raffy Alejandro, also head of the Bicol Regional DRRMC, said the agency has since been coordinating with all prospective government and private organizations across the region to submit their respective entries to the awards program stressing confidence that awardees last year will make it anew to the national limelight of the Gawad Kalasag 2011.
Regional winners will represent the region in the national contest.
“Certainly, we are aiming for Hall of Fame citation for at least two entries namely Albay Provincial DRRMC in the provincial category and Child Sponsorship for Community Development Incorporated (CSCDI) in the non-government organization on humanitarian assistance category,” Alejandro announced.
Last year, seven awards were notched by government and private organizations in Bicol including five (5) other Albay-based entities secured awards in various categories: (a) Legazpi City – 2nd in component city category (it was first last year) (b) Child Sponsorship for Community Development Incorporated – 1st in NGO category (c) Simon of Cyrene Children’s Rehabilitation and Development Inc. – 2nd in NGO category (d) Daraga National High – 3rd in Best School Category and (e) BRTTH – 3rd in Best Hospital Category.
The municipality of Calabanga, Camarines Sur was named 2nd Best Municipal DRRMC in 1st-3rd class category and Barangay Cagsao, Calabanga town bagged 3rd Best Barangay DRRMC in rural barangay category.
Meanwhile, Albay Governor Joey Salceda said that the province, vying for the Hall of Fame citation is stepping up strategies to the next level of preparedness and resources committed to the efforts of attaining a higher goal - that development can proceed in the midst of disaster risks.
Salceda noted that the six awards to Albay proves that the DRR ethos or culture of preparedness has become a pervasive character of the province that is confronted with multiple hazards- from19-21 typhoons, volcanic eruption, floods, landslides, storm surges.
Meanwhile, the regional selection committee of Gawad Kalasag 2011 in Bicol, co-chaired by the OCD and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), has recently convened in preparation for this year’s assessment of entries and get the most number of participants to the awards program in all categories.
The goal of Bicol Regional DRRMC, according to Alejandro, transcends mere garnering the awards but rather encourage all communities, from provinces to cities and towns, down to the barangays and puroks as well as organizations mainstream disaster risk reduction strategies and measure in their day to day living.
The mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction in local communities communes with the priority agenda of the administration of President Benigno Aquino III on disaster risk reduction, preparedness and mitigation. (MAL, PIA V/Albay)

Woman goes missing while crossing river in Albay:ohno:
June 23, 2011 04:16 PM

MANILA, Philippines - A woman was swept by floodwaters while crossing a river in Albay, bringing the number of persons reported missing in Bicol region to 11, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported this afternoon.

The NDRRMC identified the woman as 54-year-old Rosa Breda of Ligao City in Albay.

The NDRRMC earlier reported that 10 fishermen were reported missing after they went fishing in waters of Catanduanes province, despite warnings from authorities against venturing into the sea due to tropical storm "Falcon."

The agency said that according to its regional office, Falcon is pounding Bicol with strong winds and heavy rains as of this posting.

The Office of Civil Defense in Bicol said that local officials have ordered the forced evacuation of residents in high risk areas.

In Albay alone, nearly 70,000 people have been evacuated since Wednesday night.

Bombo radyo (http://www.bomboradyo.com/index.php/news/top-stories/58619-bilang-ng-evacuees-sa-albay-lomobo-pa)

Let's wait sivah, that within this year, more developments will sprout in this one of a kind boulevard in Southern Luzon, in time for the on going development up there at the estanza higlands plus the development on the southern barangays of Daraga because of BIA and the GUICADALE platform.

The national convention of PICE will surely shout to the whole country, there is another booming city in Bicol and putting up business there is the best so far.

Manila has their well established Roxas Boulevard and Cebu has its infra in the making along the long winding boulevard where the biggest SM in Visayas will be constructed.

These Civil Engineers, some of them are working with the big businesses in the country and for sure they will highly recommend our city to put up malls and other business in that site.

During the opening program, most often , included in the welcome talk of the City Mayors is to sell the place, to investors and to the visitors. Telling what in store for them, during their stay here and what they could contribute so far for the development of that place.

Let's wait and see, cross my fingers, it will happened.

Remember, the topographic location of the city is comparable enough to Cebu and Baguio, and these cities were so proud having sprawling hills and mountains, suited for everything, for total development.

Having seas around , is much conducive to all water activities, just like Subic.

We must be very thankful to our local officials this time for having such innovations. Making Legazpi, soon to be the tourist city.

Two years from now, Washington Drive, will be one of the busiest business district with bulky heavy traffic jams, due to its facelift developments , to be called as the little Makati of Legazpi .

I've seen demolition of the former BCCD building, to give way for another big construction on site.

We have here the flashy, classy millionaires village, subdivisions for the average and rich, hotels like the Venezia, the Alicia, the Sevellie Inn, the Mayon Vista, the Pepperland, and more small tourist inns.

It has the Aquinas University Hospital rising from others, the Washington International School, the Divine Word High School and Private Preparatory School, autoshops, food chains, drug stores like the Mercury and the St. Jude with convenient stores , some of the regional offices at the ANST Building, etc.

Churches like the Adventist, and apartments and even hometel, bed and breakfast, one of the biggest public central school, a radio and television stations, an aviation school, office of the congressman, printing press its' tall building competing from the others infront, some expensive car wash stations, car dealer, the LTO, the Astrodome, facing the city hall, the park, the artificial park of Dr. Ago,etc.

Time will come the Washington Drive, changed to F. Aquende Drive, needs, fly over, over pass, and traffic lights.

Why? This avenue will be one of the main route of the a la Sentosa of Singapore in Legazpi.

When I was a small kid, that road was but just surrounded by rice paddies. The only establishment there was the DZRC building. Look at it now, dai nang traces kan kabasan. Piuton na talaga an downtown kan Legazpi. Kaya pasiring na kita sa kabubuldan.

Legazpi is on my list. Still clean and green and I hope it would remain the way it is.

I would include Tagaytay, the former Clark and Subic Bases, Fort Bonifacio (Global City), and of course Cebu the province- not the city per se.

Baguio is now a overcrowded city. But I would vote for Camp John Hay- otherwise Baguio has lost it's allure

Almost all cities in the Philippines looks the same- the more they progress- the uglier and the dirtier they get.

I have not been to Silay City, Laoag City, Pagadian City and Surigao City.

LGU & DTI should give due recognition to the people of Bascaran, for their innovations on their globally competitive native hand made products.

Newly opened hotels and restos were using these products as diplays, abubot even in our homes.

Haay salamat, eyesore man talaga ini.

Sabi kan older police kanina, this place was formerly the 1st PNP station sa banwang Daraga, then it was used by the Postal Office.

I suggested even if the PNP station should be put up in here due to its, strategic location .

But the best business here is another food chain on the first and second floors and on the 3rd & up levels will be the expansion of the RHU, to give way for another income of LGU.

Ano daw kaya ta dai pa ililipat an municipio sa Tabontabon for another Daraga CBD or maybe dyan sa bulod nagahampang sa centro, sa bulod sa taas kan Bagumbayan, nasa taas, overlooking the centro fronting the Mayon Volcano.

The old municipal hall can be leased to Savemore or Puregold Daraga.

Salceda cites gains of Pinoy administration, gives 81% rating

by Ed de Leon
LEGAZPI CITY, June 24 (PIA) -- Bicol Regional Development Council (RDC) chair and Albay Governor Joey Salceda gives President Benigno Aquino III a passing grade of 81 percent for his performance during his first year of governance, citing five important gains of the PNoy's administration to back up his rating.
Salceda made this statement during today’s 2nd RDC full council meeting underscoring several achievements of the Aquino administration during the first 11 months, including the increase by $20 billion in Gross International Reserve (GIR) from June 30, 2010 to May 31, 2011.
He also cited the Moody’s credit upgrade, one notch below investment grade, the first in nine years, adding that just recently the Fitch Ratings upgraded the country’s credit rating to just below investment grade that entails another boost to the country’s international credit image as an investment destination.
Salceda furthered that also part of the gains made by the PNoy administration is the speedy fiscal consolidation through prudent spending that still resulted to growth of 4.9 percent.
Salceda also cited the P21 billion expanded Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program, popularly known as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps, of the present administration to benefit some 2 million more families that is aligned with achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
Salceda also noted that some 1.4 million jobs were created by April 2011, pointing out that about 400,000 were generated by the government sector while about 1 million were created by the private sector, showing a strong confidence by the business sector on the government due to a transparent President.
The governor said that the reforms now being put in place by President Aquino will see bountiful harvest by 2012. (MAL/EDL, PIA V

(MAL, PIA Albay/NIM, RNB)

Legazpi is on my list. Still clean and green and I hope it would remain the way it is.

I would include Tagaytay, the former Clark and Subic Bases, Fort Bonifacio (Global City), and of course Cebu the province- not the city per se.

Baguio is now a overcrowded city. But I would vote for Camp John Hay- otherwise Baguio has lost it's allure

Almost all cities in the Philippines looks the same- the more they progress- the uglier and the dirtier they get.

I have not been to Silay City, Laoag City, Pagadian City and Surigao City.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOC, perhaps super daming handa.

Bicol Express trips resume July 1 - PNR
By Danny O. Calleja

NAGA CITY, June 23 (PNA) - After more than four years of absence, the “Bicol Express”, the signature run of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) commercial train services between Manila and Bicol, will resume on July 1, its top official here on Thursday said.

“This time, Bicol Express would be offering faster, more economical and convenient trips with its newly refurbished economy-class cars that are air-conditioned and with reclining seats and new sleeper coaches acquired through a donation from Japan,” according to Constantino Toledano, the PNR South Railways manager and operations division chief.

The trip will offer tourist class accommodations in coaches provided with wide screen LCD televisions with video players, state-of-the-art sound system, sleeper coaches for a family or group of six, executive class for passengers who would want extra privacy and dining cars with an ambiance of first class restaurants.

Its mission, Toledano said, is to reclaim the reputation of the Manila-Bicol railway system as the backbone of social and economic progress in Southern Luzon which it has established since the Spanish and American times. The train services are now seen to maximize its immense potential for the economic growth of Bicol, now the second poorest region of the country.

Under the administration of President Benigno C. Aquino III, he said the Bicol Express is destined to boost the local tourism industry and perk up economic activities in Southern Luzon as among the major catalysts in the country’s development by connecting provinces via a comprehensive railway system.

The PNR suspended its Bicol-Manila commercial operations in late 2006 following the destruction rendered by typhoon Reming on its lines and other structures. An amount of P1.25 billion has been earmarked by the previous administration to finance the full rehabilitation of the damaged facilities.

The amount included the US$ 110 million obtained early in 2010 from the Korea Exim Bank and infused into the project following the clearing and relocation of some 34,700 informal settlers along the PNR row between the Manila-Calamba section that jump started its implementation early in June last year and scheduled completion before the end of 2011.

The Aquino administration took over and all contracts involving the rehabilitation works were done and the money obligated as the President issued a marching order for its expeditious completion. The works covering the Manila-Legazpi line were completed late last year and the finishing touches done last April.

Dry runs to determine the worthiness of the lines and coaches were proven successful and the final test run, which started here, was conducted in the evening of June 22. The first commercial run from Manila up to this city takes place on July 1, marking the start of the second year of the Aquino presidency, Toledano said.

As per early dry runs, travel time between the route using the PNR diesel-fed engines is nine hours which is faster by one hour compared to the 10-hour trips of air-conditioned buses. The fare would be P300 for passengers taking the air-conditioned, reclining seat cars and P800 for the sleeper coaches.

These rates, the PNR division chief said are lower by P200 compared to buses.

Soon, the Manila-Albay route will also resume depending on the result of the test runs to be conducted on the 90-kilometer Naga-Legazpi line which also suffered major damages from Typhoon Reming. The route has been rehabilitated including the Travesia Bridge in Guinobatan, Albay which was toppled down by flood.

He said the rehabilitation works continue on train stations along the 500-kilometer Manila-Laguna-Quezon-Camarines Sur-Albay route that used to be hubs of commercial activities.

Extension of railway connection to Batangas, Camarines Norte and Matnog, Sorsogon are likewise on the drawing board, Tolenado added. (PNA)

That is the old Mayon Imperial Golf and Country Club of yore pading Dan. That was very popular in the seventies. It was destroyed by mudflows after the Mayon eruptions. But in the early part of Y2k it was crudely repaired with funding contributed by a group of local businessmen. I think its 18 holes is now playable. Maray na baga kaysa daing makawatan. :)

I thought a new course is being developed somewhere in the Estanza Hills.

BTW guys, any one here knows the status of the former Kagayonan Beach Resort somewhere in arimbay or Rawis? Kagayonan is a 5star resort also owned by Balthazar and peptic Aquino which was also built in the mid seventies. Beside it was the Malacanang of Bicol. The resort was very nice during it's heyday.it operated until the early nineties I think.

The resort was very nice during it's heyday.it operated until the early nineties I think.
