Hehe, thanks Sir but I am not worthy to be a part of such an illustrious and distinguished group of individuals. It is already an honor for me to simply be an alumnus of the same school that molded Loida Nicolas-Lewis, Cheryl Diaz-Meyer (who surprised everyone in this thread when she actually joined the forum and posted here a few years ago), Angela Manalang-Gloria and more.

From my batch, I think I would nominate Jocelyn R. Uy, now a respected journalist for the Philippine Daily Inquirer. I always see her byline on the front page. :okay:

MANILA, Philippines - Incheon, South Korea’s powerhouse business center, and Albay have firmed up economic partnership to further strengthen trade and investment cooperation between them. The partnership was signed at the Sister Cities Conference held recently at Incheon Metropolitan City Hall.

Salceda thanked Young-Gil for the donation, saying it further strengthened the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Albay and Incheon.

He also expressed optimism over the existing sisterhood pact and the planned trade and investment cooperation. The province signed a sisterhood pact with Incheon four years ago.

Going to the movies is one of the most effective way to have fun even on the most boring day. But what does it take to have a successful movie experience? Tourist spots in Mayon’s ‘no man’s land’

Two wasted and devastated areas dubbed “no man’s land” in Legazpi City have become tourist attractions since a trail run inspired by Mayon Volcano was organized there three years ago.

The event aims to rediscover the tourism potentials of areas ruined by climate change, typhoons and volcanic eruptions.

Bonga Gulley, one of the main pathways of Mayon’s volcanic debris, and the five-story high lava wall were part of the route of the first Mayon Trail Run (MTR) in 2008. Now, these areas are drawing many foreign and local tourists, Legazpi Councilor Cerilo Chan said.

Before, we were using SmartBRO (the one with a box-type device on top of a pole). Pinaputol mi su subscription sainda ta paputol-putol man kaya su connection mi tapos mabagal (internet pa lang).

Ngunyan, this is our 3rd year with BayanDSL (internet only). Tapos, pigkabitan mi ki Vonage (http://www.vonage.com/) modem para sa telephone.

Dai man po ako nagda-download ki movies sa net.

Pero uni su speed kang connection ko ngunyan na alas-diyes ki aga.

Kung masubscribe ka sa Bayantel, ang mwaon mo su internet lang. Dai ka magkuang package na bundled with landline ta mabagal talaga yan. Ano po ang internet na gamit mo ngonyan? 2 years po lock in period nya. Ang DCTV nagaoffer man po ki Internet through PLDT igate. Bundled ini with cable TV. 1,200 yata per month.

Tapos habang naga download ako movie, halos dai ko na ma-open ang Facebook kasi naubos na ang bandwidth ko ning pagdownload ko. It takes me 4hrs to download 1 movie na 700-750MB and size.

Gusto ko na po sana magpalit ning ISP pero nakalock in ako sa Smart. Ano kaya kung dai ko na bayaran ang Smart bahala sinda magsingil sako ning fine for noncompletion of plan. LOL

Ano po ang magayon na internet connection na ginagamit nyo? mahagad po ako recommendation nyo! Mabalos!

(rant mode ON) 1Mbps ang plan namin, mabagal ang connection namin afternoon til midnight. Connection gets intermittent during thunderstorms & heavy downpours. Di ko lang alam kung sa settings ko ba ng utorrent, but the maximum download speed I get is 150 kb/s (from midnight til noon), & around 20 kb/s (yes, 20 lang!) from 12nn- evening. Hirap mag-load ng kahit anong browser pag open ang utorrent. I could get by with their mediocre internet service, but their customer service is just bad. You report a connection problem today, they'd give you some standard reply, no assurance whatsoever...& they'd fix it after a good 1 week (unless you bug them for three consecutive days, you won't get your problem solved immediately). Recently, it took them 2 weeks to fix their system. And they seldom answer their hotline! (rant mode off :p )

CIDG obtains grant

THE CRIMINAL Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police has received a P2-million grant in form of computer hardware and software from the US State Department, the police said yesterday. In a statement the CIDG said its chief, Director Samuel D. Pagdilao, Jr., received the first batch of mobile forensic equipment that include servers, software and other utilities that will modernize the Anti-Transnational and Cyber Crime Division in digital forensics. Part of the donated equipment will be brought to Cebu City for the first CIDG’s Regional Digital Forensic Laboratory and Cyber Training Laboratory, the statement said. Two additional anti-cyber crime laboratories will be set up in Cebu and in Legazpi City, Albay by the end of the year as part of the regional program, Mr. Pagdilao said.

Same here, Burntjay! Pag nagddownload ako ng movie, dai na ako naka open maski google page. Maray ka pa 150kb/s..ako nga when I download, 56kb/s kaya nga ang 700-750 MB na movie takes me 4hrs to download. Smartbro plan 999 ako.

LEGAZPI CITY—Deputy House Speaker Lorenzo Tañada III expects the much-awaited freedom of information (FOI) bill to pass into law by next year.
Tañada said he has no doubt at all that President Benigno Aquino III would sign the FOI bill once it is approved by the bicameral conference committee.
Mr. Aquino considers the FOI an important piece of legislation that he would want enacted during his term, the Quezon representative told a press conference here on Wednesday.
He was one of the supporters of the FOI bill when he was still senator, said Tañada, the spokesperson of the ruling Liberal Party and a close ally of the President.
Tañada was one of the principal sponsors of the FOI when it was filed during the 14th Congress. The measure was stalled when legislators became preoccupied with the holding of the national elections in 2010.
It was refiled in the 15th Congress and is set to be approved by the House committee on information, Tañada said. In the Senate, a technical working group is studying the bill’s provisions, he added.

Night vision gear eyed for provincial airports

In a bid to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) terminals, provincial airports will soon be equipped with a technology that would enable them to operate even at nighttime, Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas said.
Roxas, who inspected on Friday the security preparations at the Naia Terminal 3 for the expected influx of passengers during the long weekend holiday, said the government intends to install night-vision equipment in many provincial airports next year.
Domestic carriers bundle their departures during daytime so that all of them would be able to take off from their points of departure before sunset.
This, he said, has contributed to congestion and slotting problems at the Naia terminals.
“All of them are in a hurry to come back before sunset, where provincial airports stop operating due to the absence of runway lights or night-vision technology,” Roxas said, adding that the night vision capability will improve visual awareness in smoky, foggy or dark environments.
Installation of night vision capability at airports where popular tourist destinations are located would be prioritized, he added.
Spreading out flights
With the new technology, air carriers can choose other slots or schedules so that departures are spread out evenly, thus avoiding congestion.
Joseph Agustin, chief of the Manila International Airport Authority’s (MIAA) ground operations and safety division, said that apart from addressing congestion at the Manila airports, the plan to install night vision capability also means additional profit for airline operators.
“More passengers can be accommodated once more airports become night-rated,” Agustin said.
To date, he said more provincial airports are already equipped with navigational aids but are not yet “night-rated.”
These are the airports that operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., he said.
These airports include those in Butuan City, Legaspi, Dumaguete, Roxas, Cotabato, Dipolog, Tuguegarao, Naga, Tagbilaran and Virac.
Apart from Naia, Mactan, Davao, Clark international airports are already night-rated.
Some provincial airports like those in Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Puerto Princesa, General Santos, Laoag, Zamboanga and Kalibo are already equipped with night vision technology, thus they can operate even at nighttime.
At the Naia Terminal 3 on Friday, Roxas inspected equipment and facilities, including x-ray machines and airport security checkpoints.
Roxas said airports expect a 20 percent increase in passenger volume during the holiday break.
“Normally, around 15,000 passengers a day go in and out of our terminals. But during the Undas period, we expect around 25,000 to 27,000 passengers daily,” Roxas told reporters.

^ Why will SM let go of that branch in LKY, when in fact some city offices will be relocated in the vicinity plus a city hospital is about to rise very proximite to the supermarket? So i think, the one in bichara will be the second savemore in the city...

Because a friend of mine who works at A. Bichara said that Savemore will transfer to Bichara. We'll just wait and see then.

If that is so, why is LKY Savemore building another entrance/exit area facing the Legazpi City High School?

As far as I know, there's already a Watson's in Savemore Legazpi at the terminal, but this is just a stall located inside Savemore. Maybe the second one will be a full blown store.

Is it really going to be the second Savemore in Legazpi or the one in LKY will just be transferring to Bichara?

Second branch of Savemore/Watsons in the city. :) Third may be in Daraga.

It's been there for a while but I discovered only last week its a more filling alternative to other fastfood stores; looks more environment friendly because they use banana leaves and brown paper to keep the food warm; not styro or plastic. My alternative is the petso and unlimited rice in both Mang Inasal and Chic-boy, both P99.
P300 for a burger? At Binalot, Mang Inasal, and Chic-boy, tulo na an basog! But on weekdays, nothing beats the price of viands at our school canteens.

Philippine Army: Paradise Fm is legal

Legazpi City - The operation of Paradise Fm under the network of Freedom Radio is legal, a senior military official said Monday.

In a message sent to The Examiner, Colonel Romeo Ayson, Deputy Brigade Commander, 901st Brigade, Philippine Army clarified that Paradise Fm and their relay station in barangay Puro, Legazpi City operates legally.

Colonel Ayson has referred the a memorandum circular citing the exemptions which states that Memorandum Circular Number- 76-07 which states that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and National Intelligence Service Agency (NISA) now National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) are exempted from the application of this circular as these stations are being used in carrying out their respective missions.

It can be recalled that Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster ng Pilipinas - Albay-Legazpi Chapter (KBP-Albay--Legazpi) has inquired the Commissioner Ruel Villa Canobas of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) the proliferation and sudden increase in the number of FM stations in Albay. Member stations are questioning the legal existence of Paradise Fm and two other stations in Ligao City and in Polangui, Albay

Ang dami na talagang FM but that's good. More choices. Another 101.7 FM just opened in Guinobatan. December babalik na ang DWAS FEBC on FM band, probably 101.1 or 101.9 FM.

Another awesome meet with the SkyscraperCity Albay folks earlier: Pading Romy, Joks, Glenn, Ojo de la Plata, range rover, RJ, and pojlette. We had coffee at Hotel St. Ellis' Crossroads Cafe and Lounge and Pancit Canton at Alibar.

The hotel is impressive! It's definitely going to be a landmark not only in the city but in the entire region; something Bicol can be proud of, especially because it is wholly owned and operated by a Bicolano from Sorsogon City.

What you see in the rendering below and the ones posted in this thread earlier (from WTA Architecture) is exactly how the hotel looks like in real life. The 6-storey lobby is simply stunning, with the original criss-crossing beams retained and the crystalline glass allowing sunlight to filter through making the entire front lobby structure look as if it's floating on air.

The lobby interior is elegant and subdued with a minimalist design and white as the predominant color palette. With floor to ceiling glass windows the hotel takes advantage of its superb location and outstanding views.

We were able to view three rooms and the Majestic Suite is the unanimous favorite of the group. Haha! I won't preempt the hotel by divulging more information. Hehe. Watch out for their soft opening, soon!

If you are travelling from Legazpi City, Rodolfo's Java Vino Cafe will be on your right hand side immediately beside SAA, before the Sagumayun Bridge. If you are coming from Daraga, Rodolfo's Java Vino Cafe will be to your left, all the way across the street.

you should brandon. gabos na resto ninda pirming matawo- sa Pacific Mall, Emba buda sa Daraga. try mo man sa Gilians sa Emba ta masiram man ang mga pagkaon duman. sabagay gabos man yata na resto sa Legazpi puro masiram ang mga pagkaon. saro palan na nariparo ko sa Legazpi na kadakul na ki bar asin maski sain na sana nagburutwa.

Sa ibang countries, igwa sindang Age Discrimination in Employment Act ( ADEA ) na nagproprotect sa mga tawong may 40 years of age pataas asin prohibited man ang employment discrimination with regards to race, color, religion , sex or national origin.

MANILA, Philippines - Seventeen senators have signed a committee report on similar bills filed by Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada and Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago banning the specification of gender preference in job advertisements.

The consolidated bill says the practice is an act of gender discrimination. It seeks the prohibition of printing, circulation or publication of any statement indicating hiring preference based on sex. Santiago noted that Article II Section 14 of the Constitution provides for the fundamental equality of the sexes.

“Discrimination by reason of sex is usually effected by subtle and elusive means, especially in employment advertising,” Santiago said.

Any exemption to the provisions of the bill would have to come from the Department of Labor and Employment.

Violation would result in the imposition of a fine of not less than P10,000 or imprisonment, or both, at the discretion of the court.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Culinaria Albay, a long-term program designed to promote and strengthen culinary tourism in the province of Albay will be officially launched this december during the Green Christmas/Ranga sa Albay Festival via a food fest.... more than a dozen booths will be available for interested restaurants/food establishments for FREE for them to sell/showcase their restaurant menus and other promos/packages during the entire duration of the festival. Interested kakanin makers from throughout the province will also be given opportunity to present/show/sell their products. some media members and top bloggers will be invited to provide coverage and exposure to the participating exhibitors during the duration of the festival. Prizes will be given for Best Booth Design and Best Kakanin. This is all FREE and will provide great exposure and press coverage for participating food establishments and kakanin makers. I agree, we don't really need to reclaim land because the southern highlands offers vast real estate that will immediately become prime land once the Legazpi Boulevard is completed.

Witness a new Legazpi rising in the southern highlands in the next 10-15 years. :okay:

There is no need for land reclamation. We have lots of it.

Puro' and Lamba is my best bet. Its location I think is safe enough from the mudflows and floodings brought about by Mayon. Its hilly terrain will also be safe enough from fears of tsunami threats. What a great view shall it be if those hilly spaces bordered by Legazpi Boulevard are developed in the next 10 years. More come ons should be initiated by the city government to entice investors to focus their investments in these areas.

Albay bags national tourism awards

Albay recently bagged a series of national awards in tourism, governance, and disaster preparedness.

The province won two Best Tourism Practices Awards at the national convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines held in Roxas City.

The Mayon 360 Degrees Ultra Marathon, an extreme sports adventure event, got first place in the Best Tourism Event: Sports/Wellness Category Provincial Level.

Regarded as among the most challenging runs in the country, Mayon 360 takes runners around the volcano’s circumferential road and passes through the scenic towns of Sto. Domingo, Bacacay, Malilipot, Tabaco City, Ligao City, Guinobatan, Camalig, Daraga, and Legazpi City.

Meanwhile, the Magayon Festival, Albay’s provincial festivity, got runner-up honors in the Best Tourism Event: Festival Category Provincial Level.

A month-long celebration depicting the legend of the Daragang Magayon or the origins of Mayon Volcano, the festival showcasing the cultural heritage of the province.

Aside from Mayon Volcano, which draws droves of tourists even during eruptions, the upscale Misibis Bay Resort in Cagraray Island in Bacacay is among the province’s top attractions.

Complementing this tourist cluster are Spanish-era Franciscan churches, fine sand beaches of volcanic nature, dive sites, tropical eco-parks, enchanting waterfalls, and the spicy exotic local cuisine.

Albay’s gateway is Legazpi City, the provincial capital, and the gateway to major points in the Bicol region.

In a related development, Albay was also accorded the Biyaheng Pinoy Award by the Department of the Interior and Local Government as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the Local Government Code of 1991.

Albay was named the best in Bicol region in governance practices in the provincial category, while Tiwi and Ligao City topped the municipal and city categories.

Moreover, the province was also given the Gawad Kalasag Award for bagging the Best Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for the third consecutive year.

The annual citation is given by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for outstanding practices in disaster preparedness.

Last year, the province and Albay governor Joey Salceda Salceda were recognized Disaster Response Campaign Champions by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.

I've seen your post regarding the vacant lot formerly owned by the Listana Family in Zone 4, Anislag. You have cited that it was already a property of Ayalas. My aunt resides to the lot adjacent to it. Is it really true? Well good for Anislagueños.

Please do post of some pics of my barangay....Hope for it to become a municipality soon....
