No wonder for aiming high, as one, the only one in Bicol. BU the only chartered university in Southern Luzon. According to my Investigative Docu... when President Lauraya was interviewed for presidency and asked, by the panelist, What is your best asset different from your opponent ? She replied, I'm still young........:lol::lol::lol:

Winner:lol::lol::lol::lol:

baka natatakot na sinda sa "the forum" heheh puro lang kaya boxey type na mall ang kaya nindang gibuhon. hehehe dapat kung malaag sinda mag kua sinda ki matibay na madesign kang mall. heheh to complement the "modern" hehehe cityscape kang legazpi.

Tama, Embarcadero and soon the Forum are really different from all the malls in the country, Legazpi will have malls comparable to Serendra of the Global City, Taguig, beside the Market Market of Metro Gaisano:banana::banana:

Kaya SM, beware of your architectural design:lol::lol::lol:

Baka takot sinda sa Pacific Mall - Gaisano. This Cebu-based retailer is quietly making its presence felt all over the archipelago. In Visayas and Mindanao, they have a mall in just every major town and city.

Gaisano has already found a niche here in Legazpi.

And next to Gaisano will be the LCC Malls, invading now outside Bicol:banana::banana::banana:

Excerpts from the main article

Sendong and Albay

by Dr. Romulo A. Virola, NSCB secretary-general

Last Friday, the NSCB hosted a forum where Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda of Albay enlightened us about disaster preparedness, disaster mitigation, disaster response. He posited that since those who had less in life had more in risks, “ it is the primordial duty of society and its state and the civic duty of its elite and the markets they control to save the vulnerable from disasters, from climate change.” According to Gov. Salceda, climate change adaptation for all local government units is imperative. He informed us about the 115-strong Team Albay whose structural approach to managing disaster risk and vulnerability hinged on a risk-based assistance that offered no perverse incentives and stressed the importance of preserving the dignity of victims ensuring that they do not develop a mendicant mentality as help is given to them. Holding us captive with his passionate discourse on the subject, controlling our urge to use the bathroom after a heavy lunch.

Governor Salceda impressed us with the zero casualty record from major disasters that hit Albay from 1994 to 2010 except in 2006. He related how members of Team Albay spent their Christmas and New Year producing potable water and operating health stations for the victims of Sendong in Cagayan de Oro. We take our hats off to the Albay model of governance and we surely need the likes of Gov. Salceda to lead our country.

PNR reviving Manila-Albay service
January 10, 2012, 2:35pm

MANILA, Philippines — Tourists and travelers to the Bicol region have more to rejoice with the recent revival of the Manila-Albay connection of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) to the town of Polangui.

The explorer run of the state railway agency ran from the Tutuban terminal in Manila led by Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, PNR General Manager Junio Ragrario and Polangui Vice Mayor Jesus Salceda Jr.

According to Gov. Salceda, the return of the train service augurs well for Albay’s growing economy and tourism industry.

He said that the revived train service will offer an alternative, safe and cheaper mode of transport, especially with the rising toll rates at the South Luzon Expressway.

Salceda, who helped bring back the Albay section of the railway system, also noted that the train will also support the province’s disaster response thrust as it bypasses the flood-prone areas in the region.

The train was welcomed by townsfolk at the Polangui station led by Mayor Cherilie Mella-Sampal, who were elated with the return of the “iron horse.”

Meanwhile, Ragrario said that regular train trips to Albay will start soon after the repair of a bridge in Guinobatan. He added that the full line to Legazpi City is expected to be restored by the first quarter of 2012, which will be in time for the Magayon Festival, Albay’s month-long tourism event.

He noted that the refurbished trains from Japan can accommodate passengers with first class, sleeper and economy coaches. He added that there are also coaches for dining and cargo.

The train will be christened Mayon Limited, named after the old train service which plied the route before it was halted due to the damage brought by typhoon Reming in 2006.

The Manila-Naga City service called “Bicol Express” was restored last September in time for the Feast of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia.

Once fully-restored, the PNR line will pass through the scenic spots of Camarines Sur and Albay, including the iconic Mayon Volcano, Bicol’s geological monument and major tourist drawer.

Albay’s humanitarian mission in CDO and Iligan cities ends

LEGAZPI CITY, January 10 (PIA/LGU Albay) -- Members of the Albay WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Mercy Mission are now back home after spending the holidays helping typhoon and flood victims in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities in Mindanao.
The 50-member Albay WASH Mercy Mission, composed of medical doctors, nurses and other volunteer health workers, provided medical assistance and helped ease the serious lack of potable drinking water among the hapless flood victims in Mindanao.
The mission brought with them Albay’s now popular Water Purifying Machine, which can filter and decontaminate 33,000 liters of polluted water per hour and render it potable and safe for human consumption.
The water purifying machine has been proven vital in post calamity events or whenever the need for potable drinking water arise, It has been widely appreciated by people in Albay, Pangasinan, Isabela, Iloilo, Aklan, Marikina and Quezon City where it was fielded after they were devastated by calamitous weather disturbances, notably Typhoons Juan, Frank, Ondoy and Pepeng.
Salceda said the dispatch of their WASH mission in Mindanao is also in response to President Noynoy Aquino's call for help for tropical storm Sendong victims, and “in the spirit of solidarity among LGUs and the sense of kinship between our peoples, so critical in overcoming this period of distress”.
The WASH Mercy Mission is apart from from the Albay Sendong Aid Mission (ASAM) which was earlier dispatched to deliver the P1-million donation of the province -- P500,000 each for Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City.
A calamity prone province, Albay has constantly been honing its disaster risks reduction capability and has been successful with its ‘zero casualty goal’ through ‘preemptive evacuation,’ a pioneering disaster strategy, that is now a byword.
Salceda said the deployment of their WASH Mercy Mission in Mindanao is also being coordinated by Office of Civil Defense in Legazpi City, headed by Regional Director Raffy Alejandro, who also chairs the Bicol Regional Disaster Risks Reduction and Management Office.
AECID or Agencia Española Cooperacion International Para El Desarrollo, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, provided the bulk of the funds for the WASH mission, Salceda added. (MAL/PIO, LGU Albay)

paki-edit nalang po :)

Ang daming potential ng Albay. Trying to remove my personal biases since I'm an Albayana, in my critic eyes, I would still love this province. I've been all over the Philippines and some countries but this place have hidden gems that keeps me coming back. It doesn't give all the secrets all at once.

Pilinut Hills is another tourism catapult that should be developed.

Bohol: Chocolate Hills; Albay: Pilinut Hills. Very iconic scenery.

Who among you would like to call it Pilinut Hills? I vote for it to be named such.

I think no because the present airport terminal is quite small but I hope I'm wrong. But it will be 100% sure in the upcoming BIA/SLIA.:)

Libre kasi ang food and goodies and some comfortable amenities sa PAL Mabuhay lounge na yan. And since ang daming visitors na politicians, artista, mga sosyalera etc siguro naman dapat meron tayo nyan.:) Calling Mayor Rosal!:)

Albay’s humanitarian mission in CDO and Iligan cities ends (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=71932)

Ayon pa kay Iway, ang nasabing circular ay base sa ginawang memorandom of agreement ng Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Transportation and Communications, at Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

“With the very tight timeline, Negotiated Procurement was resorted to as authorized by DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson in his Memorandum dated November 16, 2011, giving authority to Regional Directors and District Engineers to use Alternative Method of Procurement to facilitate the implementation of various DPWH infrastructure facilities damaged by typhoons and other calamities such as flashfloods and heavy rains,” tugon ng direktor ng tanungin sa posibilidad ng lapsed funding dahil sa late na pagbigay ng kaukulang budget.
“We do assure the Albayanos, that we adhere to the ‘Tuwid na Daan’ advocacy of this present administration. We are here to serve and give our best for public service,” ayon pa sa direktor. (MAL/SAA-PIA V/Albay)

Let us be watchful with this budget. I hope the money will be used to its intent.

HISTORY
Never has there been a celebration as all-embracing, as broad and as big in the entire province as Cagsawa Festival. It was inspired by the vision of it's Mother Festival (Magayon Festival) "to create a celebration of life and lights, rising from a legendary tales that flows generously in the heart of a visionary man who was commissioned by the electorate to govern the province in 1995. This man administered this ideal by paving the way to remodel the image of the iconic Pride of Bicol to grace in the glory and limelight the Albayanos to enter into a spacious mall of entertainment and pleasure." with this vision Municipal Government of Daraga is famish to build and raise the meaning of festival in the municipality and to the tourists.

As a first class municipality Daraga Municipal Tourism Office with the Daraga Councilors mandate the whole month of February to celebrate Cagsawa Festival. Where in history in this month the eruption of Mayon Volcano covers the whole cagsawa church and left it with the ruins.

A line of luscious activities and events are lined up for your enjoyment.

Three more Robinsons malls to rise by June

ROBINSONS LAND Corp. is looking to keep pace with its expansion plans by opening three new malls by June, an official said.
ROBINSONS Land Corp. launched in 2010 its Magnolia Residences mixed-use complex, one of the sites for three malls the developer plans to complete by June this year. -- Jonathan L. Cellona
“We have ongoing developments in Pangasinan, Palawan, and in Quezon City. We expect to complete them by the middle of the year,” Roseann C. Villegas, Robinsons Land corporate public relations manager, told BusinessWorld in a telephone interview last week.

Once completed, Robinsons Place Palawan in Puerto Princesa City will have a floor area of around 30,000 square-meters (sq m) and will be the only establishment in the city with cinemas, the Gokongwei-led developer earlier said.

Robinsons Place Calasiao, on the other hand, will offer 31,900 sq m in floor area to rival another major mall in Pangasinan--SM City Rosales.

Meanwhile, the four-storey mall within the five-hectare The Magnolia Town Square mixed-use development in New Manila, Quezon City will boast of 108 sq. m. of gross leasable area for tenants once it opens this year, Ms. Villegas said.

These developments will grow the company’s mall network to 32, from the current 29.

This comes as Robinsons Land recently completed renovation and expansion works on three other malls in the country: Robinsons Place Tacloban, Robinsons Place Bacolod, and Robinsons Metro East in Pasig City.
“We finished all of them in the last quarter,” Ms. Villegas said.

Robinsons Place Tacloban added 7,000 sq. m. of space to the existing 35,000-sq. m. area, while Robinsons Place Bacolod grew its current area to 54,500 sq. m. from 48,000 sq. m. The decade-old Robinsons Metro East was also refurbished last year.

Robinsons Land, the real estate arm of listed JG Summit Holdings, Inc. operates four brands: Robinsons Luxuria for the high-end market, Robinsons Residences for condominiums in central business districts, Robinsons Homes for house-and-lot developments in provinces and Robinsons Communities for the middle-income segment.

The firm is also into the development of shopping malls and hotels, as well as office space leasing.

To date, the company says it has built 57 residential condominiums, seven office buildings, 27 housing developments, and five hotels apart from its mall operations.

Robinsons Land shares stood unchanged at P11.88 apiece yesterday. -- F. J. G. de la Fuente

Albay braces for La Nina

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan 12 (PIA/LGU Albay) -- It will be a wet year, so said PAGASA of year 2012. The Albay provincial government has retooled its action plan following PAGASA's forecast of intensified rains and flooding by the first quarter of this year due to the expected return of the La Nina phenomenon promptly putting into effect the Reactivated Albay Task Force La Nina 2012 (RATFLAN 2012).
Albay Gov. Joey Salceda said preparations have actually been started in December last year, with a refresher training on weather-related hazards and responses conducted by the Albay Provincial Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) for the 30-man core team from the province’s 720 barangays.
Aerial inspections of Albay’s lahar zone in its 2nd district, flood plains of the third district and landslide prone areas of the province were also conducted in late December 2011 by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), APSEMO, and the Philippine Air Force Task Operations Group 5, the governor disclosed.
Salceda said RATFLAN 2012 has immediately been put in effect with an initial P22 million budget for concrete actions and operations, with APSEMO acting as secretariat with its head presiding over the regular meetings of members starting January.
The return of the destructive La Nina weather phenomenon was forecast by PAGASA. The massive floods brought about by relatively weak tropical storm Sendong in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan in Northern Mindanao that resulted to more than 2,400 deaths, attest to its lethal threat.
.
Disaster officials in Albay agreed that their existing risk maps need to be redrawn since previously declared safe areas were recently hit by massive flash floods, landslides, and lahar flows particularly at the foot of Mayon Volcano.
Salceda said preparations are hinged on the recent rainfall situation indicating that La Niña would persist while weather systems causing heavy rainfall exist, as was reported by PAGASA.
Tropical storms Bebeng (May 8-9), Chedeng (May 25), Falcon (June 22), and Juaning (July 22) caused severe flooding, landslides, and mudflows which indicated so much run-off water and precipitation.
He said the onset of the northeast monsoon in the last quarter of 2011, has brought about so much rain that prompted the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to issue Public Safety Advisories.
Aside from updating risk maps, Salceda said steps are also being initiated to strengthen community-based real time warning systems using rain gauge stations and flood marker, install CCTV in 5 critical (highly typological) locations, conduct a sustained Communication Protocol via the disaster Infoboard, and improve the Evacuation Plan and Procedures of the province.

Wa Foo Cha, one of the oldest in the city. Which is older? Legazpi Restaurant or this?

http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz149/kaniguan78/Photo0753.jpg

Legazpi Restaurant is a legacy. I am not sure but It could have started in the forties. It's original location was beside Saty's Department Store. When I left Legazpi in the early seventies, Wa Foo Chan was maybe not even conceived yet by the owners. I don't know, but maybe sa foo chan started maybe in the late seventies or early eighties.

PNR reviving Manila-Albay service
