Albay to kick off Cagsawa Fest to rev up tourism drive

DARAGA, Albay, Philippines — This province’s newest and most historic tourism attraction, the Cagsawa Festival, will soon kick off in a move to rev up the local government’s tourism campaign.

Albay Gov. Joey Salceda said the provincial capitol and the municipal government of Daraga have forged a partnership to make Cagsawa another important festival like Magayon and Karangahan.

The month-long festival starts at the historic and world — famous Cagsawa Ruins Park, which has the remains of a church belfry and tumbled bricks that show the era of Spanish settlement.

The church and the settlement were buried after the violent eruption of Mayon volcano, which also killed thousands of people, in 1814.

The festival aims to put on center stage Mayon volcano and the Cagsawa ruins, recently declared a national park.

“The festival aims to celebrate the indomitable spirit and resilience of Albayanos, and not the memory of the disaster’s horrors,” Salceda said.

“It will also offer tourists something more deeply cultural and meaningful than just walking around and taking souvenir shots and watching the world-famous scenery many see only on postcards,” he added.

For the whole month of February, the festival will showcase over 50 sports and cultural events, including a competition in the native art of self-defense arnis and a demonstration-summit of traditional healers or “herbolarios.”

The festival will also feature on the spot the “pamaypay” (hand fan), other handicraft-making contests, and once-in-a-lifetime journey into the culinary world of the famous hot chili, known locally as “lada,” beyond the limits of the traditional “Bicol Express” cuisine.

Aside from the Cagsawa Festival, Salceda said another new festival, Culinaria Albay, would be launched in August.

The August festival is a spin-off from Albay’s Green Christmas celebration known as Karangahan.

Overall, Albay will have four major festivals, one every quarter of the year — Cagsawa in February; Magayon in April-May, celebrating all things beautiful in the province and has been running for many years now; Culinaria Albay in August, showcasing the province’s native and new cuisines; and Green Christmas Karangahan Festival, featuring environment-friendly Christmas decors and products and promoting the safe celebration of the Yuletide season.

With this white beach and beautiful spots in town, for sure more tourist will prefer to stay for at least a day or two, but the problem is the accommodation, only the LGU Guest House is available, there is a need for private hometel for private individuals.

Try Manila to Tabaco City by bus via Sabloyon Road, stay at Casa Eugenia , one of the finest hotel in Tabaco and you can still visit Tiwi that day and the whole Tabaco City , then the next day, take Filcab to Legazpi City and stay at Ellis Ecotel at Embarcadero Mall by the seafront, with wifi, enjoy all the amenities of the mall and just walk all the places in centro and have a jogging at the boulevard, in the morning , just at the back of the Embarcadero Mall, then the next day hire taxi to Lignon Hill , to Daraga Church then to Cagsawa but stay again in Villa Amada Hotel in Daraga and back to Manila by plane. May you enjoy your stay in Albay.

What an amazing number of tourist at Cagsawa Ruins this afternoon, Europeans, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Caucasians, etc., they come and go and eat at one of the restos inside and take pics, having magical tricks photoshoots by groups of friends, families, individuals, by cars, buying souvenirs, t shirts, plants, novelties, wheeehhhh.

Parking lot was jampacked but cannot cross still the river.....putol pa:ohno::ohno::ohno:

CEB has ordered 30 of these magnificent aircrafts. It is currently the most popular civil aircraft ever sold with over 1,196 orders since its December 2010 debut. I'm sure aircraft enthusiasts in Legazpi are waiting for its arrival, hopefully soon :okay:

a slight suggestion/modification to ur itinerary if you may

you can touch base in legaspi city (ellis ecotel) as most of the places in your itinerary if fairly close. The farthest is mayon resthouse where u can find the mayon planetarium too. u need to hire a taxi to take you to these place coz there's no public utility vehicle bound to this special place. St john the Baptist church is in tabaco as well so u may want to go visit these places in one day including Sto domingo church which is (in a way) enroute to tabaco from legazpi.

a slight suggestion/modification to ur itinerary if you may

you can touch base in legaspi city (ellis ecotel) as most of the places in your itinerary if fairly close. The farthest is mayon resthouse where u can find the mayon planetarium too. u need to hire a taxi to take you to these place coz there's no public utility vehicle bound to this special place. St john the Baptist church is in tabaco as well so u may want to go visit these places in one day including Sto domingo church which is (in a way) enroute to tabaco from legazpi.

It is open eastward and exposed to NE monsoon. During bas weather, recommended anchorage is at Sula or Coal Harbor.

–The newly completed back up area comprising of 7,658.48 sq.m. is available for storage area in the port.

PPA designates the parking area for trucks and haulers used for discharging/loading of cargoes.

Passenger Terminal building
No passenger terminal building was constructed in the port. However, a modular shed was installed as passenger resting area.

sa ngayon siguro wala pa...but now that Savemore is there, baka in few more months malagyan na mga vacant spaces dyan....i think theres nothing wrong wih the area/place...matagal lang siguro mapuno..lets hope na maglaog dyan ang jollibee or mc donalds...maganda kasi ang lugar, malinis at may magandang view ng Mt Mayon!:cheers::cheers::cheers:

Yup. Dakol na pting buildings for lease jan. Very vast pa ang area na yan, marami pang pwedeng itayo na mga establishments. Dakol na man pating mga kotse and jeep ang nag-aagi jan. I hope na sana madevelop ang area na yan into a major food/bar strip here in Legazpi.

NAGA CITY—The first Bicol airline will soon service passengers in four of the region’s six provinces.
The four Bicol provinces to be serviced by the newest local airline are Albay, Camarines Sur, and the island provinces of Masbate and Catanduanes.

Destinations include Manila, Boracay and Palawan.

Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda who is also chairman of the regional development council hailed the investors behind new airline, saying it is the answer to the demand for growing passengers in the region and a boost to the local tourism industry.

Salceda is the brain behind the Bicol international airport project now on the second phase of its construction. The proposed airport is located atop hilly Barangay Comon in Daraga, Albay overlooking the towns of Camalig, Daraga, and Legazpi City. The present airport is located in Legazpi City and has seven daily flights to Manila.

The new airline will have interconnecting flights described as the Bicol-Visayas-Palawan triangle route, according to Capt. Ramon Torres, president and chief operating officer of the South West Air Corp. that operates the newly registered Bicol Air Express.

Torres said the new airline will initially fly a 19-seater LET 410-E turbo-prop aircraft, a British Norman Islander BNI 8-seater aircraft and Fokker 50 twin-engine turboprop with a maximum capacity of 50 passengers.

The Fokker plane, said Torres, will cover tourism destinations not serviced by other airlines while the British Norman Islander BNI 8-seater aircraft will penetrate remote tourist areas such as the Caramoan Peninsula in Camarines Sur and Masbate Island.

The 19-seater LET 410-E turboprop aircraft will interconnect the Bicol-Visayas-Palawan triangle route, Torres said.

Formal launching was initially scheduled on Feb. 10 but was moved to March 8 to coincide with the opening of the Naga City office.

Torres said that the carrier will open the Naga-Virac-Legazpi-Masbate-Caticlan, Kalibo-El Nido-Puerto Princesa routes during the March 8 launch.

The airline, the official said, will also ask the Civil Aeronautics Administration for a Naga-Manila route, saying they are optimistic the regional airline can accommodate the increased passenger traffic after its opening.

Catanduanes Gov. Joseph Cua said his province is being serviced four times a week by two airlines, and that on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, no carriers service the Manila-Virac route.

With the newest local airline servicing the regional route, passengers can now avail themselves of the fastest transportation means in addition to the regular sea transport going to the mainland via Tabaco City in Albay.

Cua said the new airline service will certainly boost the province’s tourism industry.

I passed by there last friday night. grabe ang mga nkapark na kotse sa gilid ng road. Daming tao lalo na sa Mexita and sa 28th of September. It's becoming one of the Legazpi's main gimikan areas :D
