DOLE Bicol releases P.8M for livelihood

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 23 -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to release P854, 436.95 livelihood grant for the first quarter of the year for the DOLE Kabuhayan-Starter Kit (DK-SK) "Trabaho sa Bag" program in the Bicol region.

Nathaniel V. Lacambra, DOLE Bicol regional director, said that the first batch of release is part of the P13-million budget allocated for various livelihood programs of the agency for 2012.

“We want to start early in helping Bicolanos cope up. More livelihood opportunities means more jobs and improved quality of work for Bicol,” Lacambra said.
Lacambra said that the grant will be a good start for Bicol in its campaign to boost livelihood and employment opportunities in the region this 2012.

DOLE Bicol releases P.8M for livelihood

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 23 -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to release P854, 436.95 livelihood grant for the first quarter of the year for the DOLE Kabuhayan-Starter Kit (DK-SK) "Trabaho sa Bag" program in the Bicol region.

Nathaniel V. Lacambra, DOLE Bicol regional director, said that the first batch of release is part of the P13-million budget allocated for various livelihood programs of the agency for 2012.

“We want to start early in helping Bicolanos cope up. More livelihood opportunities means more jobs and improved quality of work for Bicol,” Lacambra said.
Lacambra said that the grant will be a good start for Bicol in its campaign to boost livelihood and employment opportunities in the region this 2012.

Albay to enforce law halting use of plastic

LEGAZPI CITY—Starting this June, commercial establishments across Albay would be prohibited from using plastic bags, Styrofoam and other synthetic fabrics as packaging materials after an ordinance banning the use of these materials was passed on Tuesday by Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
Signed by Albay Gov. Joey Salceda on Feb. 21, SP Ordinance No. 2011-3 would be strictly enforced and covered supermarkets, grocery outlets, markets, retailers and other stores across the province, a board official said yesterday.
Arnold Embestro, provincial board member and chair of the SP committee on environment, said the SP had lifted an exemption on the ban it gave to commercial establishments in the 15 towns and three cities of the province, paving the way for enforcement of the ordinance.
He said the ordinance directs owners of big and small retail chains, including sari-sari stores, to stop using plastic, Styrofoam and synthetic materials as packaging bags for goods sold to their customers. Violators face fines ranging from P1,000 to P5,000 and cancellation of their business permits.
Embestro said the provincial board is appealing to the public to use bags made of recyclable materials like paper, abaca or buri in shopping.
The SP and other enforcement agencies would meet on Feb. 24 with owners of commercial establishments to discuss salient features of the ordinance.
Environmentalists said the use of plastics, which usually end up as litter and find their way into waterways, river channels, parks, beaches and streets, causes pollution and results in environmental degradation.
They said once burned, plastic bags contaminate the air with toxic fumes and it would take at least 400 years for the material to decompose as it was nonbiodegradable. Plastic bags also kill animals that ingest them.
Other areas have also passed laws banning the use of plastics although in many cases these laws have hardly been enforced.
Scientists have developed alternatives to plastics made of biodegradable materials but these have not been commercially available in many parts of the country.

It’s more fun in the Philippines’ – the new tourism slogan reads. And we can’t agree more.We arrived in the Philippines just a few days ago and in this short time span, we’ve already weaved through Manila’s historical center, sampled its culinary delights, visited the beautiful Mount Mayon in Legazpi, and even swum with whale sharks this morning in Donsol, Bicol. The diversity of this country is immense and we can’t to see what else there is in store for us over the next few weeks. We’ll be tracking tarsiers in the wild, staying on the beautiful Panglao Island, visiting the Chocolate Hills of Bohol, and kayaking amidst the stone karsts of Palawan. We’ll be tracking tarsiers in the wild, staying on the beautiful Panglao Island, visiting the Chocolate Hills of Bohol, and kayaking amidst the stone karsts of Palawan. After checking in at the Legazpi Airport Hotel, we ate a very late lunch at the nearby Airlines Canteen. Then it rained very hard. It was a good thing that my wife ordered nilagang baka as the soup somehow warmed and soothed our weary bodies amidst the cold rainy, weather. The rain subsides soon after and we decided to take a short nap inside our room. After a half-hour rest, we freshened up before going to our first destination: the Embarcadero de Legazpi.

I think letter C route is adviseable, from Daraga to Velamor to Tahao Road to Gogon to Barriada to Gaisano then Centro to Emabarcadero and vice versa passing the Bonot to Maba then back to Tahao to Daraga.

Tama. Ang dapat gibuhon kang Legazpi is to make another jeepney route passing through roads na dai tigaagaihan ki jeep para mag asenso ang lugar.

Regarding your proposed Letter C Route. Hmm.. Siguro dapat may mgpass pang ibang jeep jan sa Barriada ta mapiutun baga ang tinampo jan. Tama nang A & B lang ang ngaagi jan. Pero tama na dapat agihan itong road from La Roca to Maba/Caltex ta warang naga aging jeep duman, may regional office pa pati duman.

Dapat siguro ilaag man sa route ang Legazpi Boulevard. What the boulevard needs is foot traffic and lots of vehicles passing through the place. Para mas dakol ang commercial establishments duman. It's going to be where Legazpi expands in the next few years so dapat lang talaga na may mas mgdakol ang mga nagaaging jeep duman :cheers:

Regarding your proposed Letter C Route. Hmm.. Siguro dapat may mgpass pang ibang jeep jan sa Barriada ta mapiutun baga ang tinampo jan. Tama nang A & B lang ang ngaagi jan. Pero tama na dapat agihan itong road from La Roca to Maba/Caltex ta warang naga aging jeep duman, may regional office pa pati duman.

Dapat siguro ilaag man sa route ang Legazpi Boulevard. What the boulevard needs is foot traffic and lots of vehicles passing through the place. Para mas dakol ang commercial establishments duman. It's going to be where Legazpi expands in the next few years so dapat lang talaga na may mas mgdakol ang mga nagaaging jeep duman :cheers:

Ang aram ko part ang Legazpi sa planned expansion kang 7/11 to other provinces. Nagannounce na sila dati eh. Hula ko other local businesses are making it difficult for them to penetrate Legazpi. (Just like so many other Manila-based businesses.)

With the abundance of so many convenience stores all over Legazpi, I'm sure 7/11 is raring to open its doors to Legazpeños and compete with LCC Expressmarts.

I was in Legazpi last Monday to Wednesday for a family emergency. I observed a lot of caucasian tourists arriving in/departing from Legazpi airport. Most of these tourists were welcomed by their host hotels (I saw staff from Casablanca Suites, The Oriental Legazpi and Hotel Venezia waiting for their guests). There was also a van-full of tourists from the same flight we took from MNL to LGP, all of them headed to Misibis Bay. Looks like Bicol's only luxury resort is enjoying brisk business lately. And it was nice to see Airphil Express's Airbus A320 side by side with its little brother the ATR 72-100 and Zest Air's A320 all parked on the tarmac. :okay:

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 24 (PNA) – A home-based enterprise engaged in the production of high quality muscovado sugar as a “One-Town, One-Product (OTOP)” venture in Polangui, Albay is now expanding into commercial production following the recent approval by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of a funding support for its expansion.

Being run by young entrepreneur Sheina Marie Sambitan, 26, the muscovado venture based in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Polangui caught the attention of the DOST because of its popularity in the locality given its natural and highly nutritive value and increasing consumers’ interest, DOST regional director for Bicol Tomas Briñas here over the week said.

LEGAZPI CITY — The United Nations has appointed Albay Governor Joey Salceda and three others as its new batch of Millennium Development Goal advocates.

Venus Raj, a Bicolana,was earlier named advocate of the international organization.

Salceda is joined by Filipino-Australian television host-actress Iya Villaniya, youth leader Bam Aquino and women’s group director Iza Abeja. Their advocacies range from climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction to youth employment and migration, improving access to water, and food security and nutrition.

Salceda is known as the ‘green economist’ who pioneered the causes of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction for which the UN declared him as its Senior Global Champion on CCA and DRR, and adopted Albay Province as its pilot area.

The national government and many other local government units have adopted Salceda’s ‘Zero Casualty’ approach though preemptive evacuation and pro-active disaster mitigation strategies during periods of natural calamities.

Dapat ang mga pangaran kang ruta ki mga jeep e yung madaling maaraman kang mga tao lalo na su mga nagdadayo pa sa Legazpi(haling ibang probinsya).
Like yung Malabog route-dai man talaga yan nagaderetso sa Malbog. Hanggang Bañag and Busay, Daraga lang yan. Palitan siguro ki pangaran.

Ang tahao Road. na ruta, pwede man sigurong palitan ki ngaran ta karamihan nalilibong kung pasain yan.

Yes, if I remember right, my friend who has a building in Daraga has been approached by representatives of 7-11 but I think they were outbid by anotherl locator.
