I hope so. Malaki ang chance na mangyari 'to since magiging hub ang SLIA ng Cebu Pacific. Gokongwei will surely see the economic effect of an international airport and the potential of Legazpi to be a world-class city. SLIA will bring so many good things to Albay talaga, not just transportation. :nocrook:

if 99 Americans spend an average of $150.00/day, multiply the result by 6 days. It could mean>>>>$89K additional for the local economy..not bad!

Wow! You put the best view to my eyes! Tourists are coming to and fro in Legazpi lately because many activities can be done in our city.

So many adventures, accommodations are enough, facilities are nearly complete, malls and businesses are everywhere but most of all the Legazpenos are becoming more cordial to tourists. Yes I'm satisfied and charmed with what Legazpi accomplished but not complacent to pursue for the best.:cheers:

LEGAZPI CITY — A 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolted the provinces of Masbate, Albay and Sorsogon on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake of tectonic origin was felt in Masbate with intensity 6, Irosin Cabid-an Sorsogon intensity 4 and intensity 2 in this city.
Phivolcs recorded the earthquake at about 7:06 a.m. with a magnitude of 5.2 at the Richter scale and with epicenter in Masbate City.
Ed Laguerta Phivolcs resident volcanologist said the earthquake was located at 12.40 degrees north, 123.63 degrees east, three kilometers north of Masbate, with depth of 23 kilometers.

Albay to implement anti-plastics, styrofoam ordinance
MARCH 6, 2012


LEGAZPI CITY, March 5 – Albay is set to implement and enforce its anti-plastic ordinance middle of this year, standing pat on its firm commitment to protect the environment and doggedly pursue its climate change adaptation program (CCA).


It goes on record as one of the first few provinces in the country to do so.

Albay Gov. Joey S. Salceda signed Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance No. 2011-3 in February 21 last year which gives an ample time moratorium for commercial establishments to prepare for its full implementation.

The ordinance prohibits the use of plastic bags, styrofoam and other non-biodegradable synthetic packaging materials for goods sold to consumers in malls, public markets, groceries and other commercial establishments.

It aims to seriously do away with industrial pollutants starting June this year.

The Albay anti-plastic ordinance penalizes violators with fines ranging from P1,000 up to P5,000 and cancellation of business permits.

It encourages the public to instead use bags made of recyclable and biodegradable materials such as paper, buri and abaca.

Salceda, popularly known as the ‘green economist’ who pioneered the advocacy for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, was recently appointed by the United Nations as one of its four spokespersons for the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

The governor said the anti-plastic ordinance is one of Albay’s bold moves to help arrest environmental degradation and live true to its commitment to climate change adaptation.

Banning plastics and styrofoam also supports disaster risk reduction since these pollutants clog canals and waterways and cause serious and destructive flooding.

A series of committee hearings were conducted by the Albay Provincial Board member Arnold Embestro, who chairs it committee on environment and who authored the ordinance, to map out a massive information drive for its enforcement in the province's 15 towns and three cities.

Guinobatan town had passed its own equivalent anti-plastic ordinance last year.

Environmentalists have hailed Albay’s move to ban plastics and styrofoam use since aside from being non-biodegradable, they also emit carbon and toxic fumes when burned. (PNA

KALAHI-CIDSS enlists 20 more towns in Bicol
March 6, 2012

LEGAZPI CITY, March 6 (PNA) – The implementation of Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) in Bicol has been expanded to 20 more municipalities in the region, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office said here on Friday.
Remia Tapispisan, regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), said the expansion would further improve the quality of life of Bicolanos in the impoverished barrios as the program continues with its poverty alleviation initiatives in the Bicol region, one of the poorest in the country.
KALAHI-CIDSS is a community driven development initiative implemented by the government through a World Bank (WB) loan from 2003 to 2010.
The administration of President Benigno Aquino III however was able to secure a US$ 120-million fund in grant from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a US-based funding institution for its extension under a new name—Makamasang Tugon (MT) that takes off this year.
Of this fund, Bicol was allotted a total of P434 million which would further allow selected local communities to be trained to choose, design and implement sub-projects that address their most pressing need like small-scale infrastructures like farm to market roads, water systems, school buildings, day-care centers, drainage systems, multipurpose hall and seawalls, among others, Tapispisan said.
The projects under the MT, being the national government’s framework program for a focused, accelerated, convergent and expanded strategy to reduce poverty by providing interventions on asset reforms, human development services, capacity building and participation in governance would promote sustainable growth across the region, she said.
Of the 20 municipalities new to the program this year, nine are in Camarines Sur, three each in Camarines Norte, Masbate and Sorsogon and two in Catanduanes, covering nearly 400 barangays.
Tapispisan said a forum meant to introduce MT or KALAHI-CIDSS objectives, principles and framework to the newly selected local government units (LGUs) and build commitment for the implementation of the project in the barangays for this year has been conducted here over the week marking the start of its implementation.
These LGUs have completed the submission of the enrollment documents while the Sorsogon towns included also provided updates as to the availability of their respective local counterpart for the 2012 implementation.
KALAHI is a core program of the DSWD to generate greater impact on poverty reduction with provision of funds applying an approach that gives barangays control over planning, decisions and investment of resources for local development projects.
The three main objectives of MT or KALAHI are community empowerment, improved local governance and poverty reduction.

In celebration of the 800th anniversary of the birth of the Order of St. Clare, her Pilgrim Relic is set to visit our diocese on 6-7 March 2012. Bicol gears up before disasters

LEGAZPI CITY: The Office of Civil Defense in Bicol and the provincial government of Albay are steadfastly intensifying disaster preparedness among local communities and lessen the collateral damage should disaster strike here.
The OCD regional office led by director Bernardo Alejandro and governor Joey Salceda are set to conduct unified earthquake and tsunami exercises in high-risk municipalities in Albay to heighten community awareness and preparedness measures here.
Bicol region specifically Albay province—classified as the ‘one-stop-shop of all type of disasters’ due to dire geography facing the Pacific Ocean where storms and tectonic temblors build up— gears up for simultaneous earthquake and tsunami exercises in the first congressional district, an area here with longest seaboard covering the towns of Sto. Domingo, Malinao, Bacacay, Malilipot, Tiwi and Tabaco City.
The drill will be done early this month to be observed by the members of the US forces under the Pacific Angel Command who will conduct a weeklong humanitarian mission in Albay from March 5 to 10.
The Pacific Angel 12-1 headed by US Air Force Lt. Col. Michael R. Black commander of 36th Mobility Response Squadron seeks to “improve inter-operability and cooperation between national and local governments, militaries, international organizations and non-government organizations in responding to disasters.
“Albay was chosen as venue of the event essentially because of its globally renowned civil-military disaster risk reduction management (DRRM) partnership and climate change adaptation initiatives,” he told The Manila Times.
The Albay earthquake (EQ) and tsunami drill will be done ahead of the national government’s EQ exercise in Manila which is set on April during the RP-US Balikatan exercises.
NDRRMC Usec. Benito Ramos said the National Capital Region (NCR) or central will be replicating Albay’s preparedness, adaptation and mitigation measures.
“In the past 20 years, at least 31,835 Filipinos have reportedly been killed and 94,369,462 have been affected by natural disasters and calamities. According to World Risk Index 2011, the Philippines places third out of 173 countries ranked according to their “risk score” or their exposure to hazards such as earthquakes, floods and storms, drought and sea level rise,” he said.
The NDRRMC official said that drills are very important as coping up mechanism and adaptation programs for Filipino’s resiliency.

Wow! You put the best view to my eyes! Tourists are coming to and fro in Legazpi lately because many activities can be done in our city.

So many adventures, accommodations are enough, facilities are nearly complete, malls and businesses are everywhere but most of all the Legazpenos are becoming more cordial to tourists. Yes I'm satisfied and charmed with what Legazpi accomplished but not complacent to pursue for the best.:cheers:

Sobrang nag abang kay St. Claire sa mga roads kan Daraga this morning from the airport until Cathedral, this afternoon, sa Tabontabon naman, sa Corpus Christi Monastery. Torch parade will happen at 6 in the evening from Penafrancia to the monastery, well lighted with torch an aagihan sa Tabontabon with banderitas along the road, super an preparation , free rides from Shell Daraga until midnight for those willing to attend vigil^^^^^^^^

Yes. Ang minimum rate kasi ng trycicle sa Legazpi is 8pesos for the first kilometer. And an additional 1 peso for each succeding kilometer.

Pero pag special ride, talagang mahal kasi the trycicles go out of their usual route.

A few months ago, pagpunta ko sa Naga, nabasa ko na ang trycicle na ang rate is 8 pesos for the first 4 kilometers. And an additional 1 peso I think for each succeeding kilometer. Mas mahal talaga sa Legazpi ang singil.

It's probably 'cause jeep talaga ang main transpo natin dito. :)

It varies naman I think pag provincial malls. Some SM Provincial Malls have land areas that are as small as 3 hectares.

MANILA, Philippines - With the arrival of its two brand new Airbus A320 aircraft, budget carrier Cebu Pacific is mounting additional flights this summer season.

In a statement, Cebu Pacific said its flights from Cebu to Dipolog, Legazpi and Pagadian are now daily until June 15, while three weekly flights will be added to its Cebu-Puerto Princesa route starting March 17 until June 4.

From March 24 to April 25, the airline is also adding flights to its Manila to Legazpi and Puerto Princesa routes to bring the flights to a total of 4 per day for each route.
