Almighty Father, we raise our hearts to You in gratitude for the wonders of creation of which we are part, for Your providence in sustaining us in our needs, and for Your wisdom that guides the course of the universe.

Who had been to Pinamuntugan Island off Bacacay? I was talking to Pepe Estevez this morning at the airport and he was inviting me to that island. He said that it is actually the only island in the area with honest to goodness white beach distributed in four coves. Take-off going to the island is from Bacacay Port or Sogod. He is looking for interested investors.

My trip back to Manila via Airphil was so smooth. We were ahead of schedule by 20 minutes. But the pre-departure area was as usual so congested. Imagine four flighhts coming and going one after the other. First there was PAL, then CEB, then another CEB, then Airphil. When we left the Zest-O plane was on its way. Since the terminal was packed, we settled for breakfast at the P145 Buffet while waiting for boarding. It was good value for money. Palaging puno'.

Ano ba maganda puntahan sa near of Around Legaspi? I ususally fly but IM feeling adventorous so I want to go to Legaspi by riding the New PNR Kogane Trains (Mayon Limited) since it has been revived.

Guys malayo ba train station from Legaspi city city proper?..

Sana magdagdag sila ng sleeper coaches gaya ng Bicol express Trains sa Mayon Limited. pero ok din naman Mayon Limited...Aircon and fully Lie Flat seats....lol may Karaoke pa... :D:lol:

DOST sees Hawaii as another market for PH’s coco sugar

LEGAZPI CITY, April 7 (PNA) -– With coconut as one of its major crops, Bicol expects to contribute more to the country’s dollar earners with the prospect of exporting Technomart commodities like coconut sap sugar to Hawaii, according to the regional office here of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The recently concluded 22nd Trade Mission to the Philippines conducted by the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii (FCCH) drew nearer more foreign merchants towards making local products under the government’s Technomart program available in that American state, Tomas Briñas, the DOST regional director for Bicol, over the week said.
Technomart’s coco sugar as well as banana chips caught the attention of the FCCH during the mission held at the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center in Makati City, he said.
TechnoMart is a government program aimed at fast tracking the movement of science and technology (S&T) products from source to the markets, increase product value, establish and implement business match, synchronize strategies with other sectors involved and track the road towards commercialization.
Being pursued by Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), the program serves as a modality that plots the direction of the agri-based products towards local and global markets.
The FCCH trade mission themed “Business opportunities in Hawaii — Leading the trend in renewable energy creation” and hosted by the PCAARRD held a workshop on business opportunities in Hawaii, particularly in the import-export of goods and products.
PCAARRD was able to showcase to the mission its assisted S&T products and presented them to a panel of prospective clients which also visited the One Stop Information Shop (OSIS) that displays all products supported by the Council, Briñas said.
Melody Calisay, a member of FCCH and head of the Honolulu-based East-West Marketing, Inc. expressed interest in importing Technomart’s coconut sap sugar or coco sugar and Bicol would be one of the main sources of this product, the DOST regional chief said.
Calisay, Briñas said would be holding negotiation talks with the PCAARRD regional partners for the initial shipment to Hawaii of this product.
Earlier, the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) said coconut sap sugar as a healthful sweetener had a .1-billion international market.
BAR has been funding product development with Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) for coconut sap as an excellent alternative to sugar.
Bicolano farmers and entrepreneurs can create a niche in natural products whose primary value is their health quality. Coconut sap sugar is one of those products that has already taken off in the market and which still offers so much valuable growth potential, Briñas said.
He said there are only three countries competing in the coconut sugar sap supply in the world market today and the Philippines as pioneer in this product had a competitive advantage against Thailand in volume and against Indonesia in terms of quality.
The Philippines broke into the coconut sap sugar market in the United States in March 2007 after proving that coconut sap sugar has a low glycemic index (GI) at 35. Any sugar-based product is considered low when its GI is 54 and below. This is comparably lower than the 65 to 100 GI range for sugarcane-based sugars.
This is based on a scientific study by the Philippines’ Food and Research Nutrition Institute-DOST and as affirmed by studies in the US and Australia.
This makes coconut sap ideal as a sweetener for diabetics and health buffs in general. GI is an indicator of how fast carbohydrates convert to glucose in the blood or how fast carbohydrate turns into sugar.
Coconut sap sugar also offers health benefits as a natural sweetener that is completely safe and contains other elements needed by the human body such as potassium, phosphorous, nitrogen, magnesium, and other elements.
Since 2009, the local industry has been exporting coconut sap sugar to Japan which took up 53.6 percent of the country’s export market and the U.S., 44.4 percent.
The country further penetrated other export markets in 2010 including the Middle East, Korea, Hongkong, Norway, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.
With Hawaii as another market, the coconut sap sugar industry will generate more livelihood for rural farmers as the product has become an important job-generating enterprise for poverty-stricken provinces like in Bicol, Briñas said.
The FCCH trade mission, he explained has been helping increase business activities by promoting Hawaii and the Philippines as both investment and tourist destinations. It also encourages trade and economic activity across the Pacific.
FCCH serves as the voice of Filipino businesses in Hawaii that broadens opportunities for Filipino entrepreneurs and member businesses and strengthens business links between Hawaii and the Philippines, he added. (PNA)

sa ngayon ang last train station ay sa Ligao City and its probably 30-40 minutes ride to Legazpi City.

The newest event slated at the Magayon Festival 2012 is the staging of the Dance of the Three Mountains, a play written by multiawarded Albayano writer Abdon Balde in the vernacular. The legendary sage tells the story of the three sister mountains—Magayon, Masaraga and Malinao—which is actually the legend of Mayon Volcano.Film stars Derek Ramsey, Lovi Poe and Matteo Guidicelli are among those expected to grace the highlights of the monthlong festival, which starts on April 10, immediately after the Holy Week. The festival ends on May 10.Taking center stage is the Mutya ng Magayon Festival 2012, a pageant which has already produced world-class beauty titlists, to be hosted by Ramsey and Guidicelli, and the Higantes, a parade of giant effigies which are all Albay mythological characters.

Had breakfast at The Oriental last Thursday. There were lots of tourist many of them going to Donsol with their flippers. My kids were disappointed because they did not serve meat maski Thursday pa lang. But I was satisfied because it did not give me the opportunity to eat meat. he he he. Buffet breakfast was P395. But the view was fantastic. Mayon was visible in its full glory.

Simply avoid coastal development, finish the roads in the Southern Highlands of the City (all the way to BIA), make the Southern Highlands a tourist spot (Mt. Magayon Festival 2012 edition features a fresh tourism outlook

LEGAZPI CITY—Magayon Festival, Albay’s foremost festivity, will awe and titillate tourists and visitors to explore the magic and mystery of the province’s mythical past this April, but with a fresh outlook.
The festival program also includes a package of close to 150 events that feature culture and the arts, trade and industry, tourism spectacles, culinary food trips, sports and special interests, a statement issued by the provincial government said.

Albay Gov. Joey S. Salceda said the Magayon 2012 edition will not only showcase the artistry and beauty of spirit of the Albayanos, and provide fun and excitement, but will also offer opportunities to promote and enhance trade and tourism designed to advance Albay’s drive toward the fulfillment of its socioeconomic development goals.

With its world-renowned tourist spots such as the Mayon Volcano and the Cagsawa Ruins, Albay invests much on tourism among its revenue-generating concerns. Salceda has adapted Albay Rising as the province’s slogan for his second term as governor, which is largely anchored on the tourism industry.

The newest event slated at the Magayon Festival 2012 is the staging of the Dance of the Three Mountains, a play written by multiawarded Albayano writer Abdon Balde in the vernacular. The legendary sage tells the story of the three sister mountains—Magayon, Masaraga and Malinao—which is actually the legend of Mayon Volcano.

Film stars Derek Ramsey, Lovi Poe and Matteo Guidicelli are among those expected to grace the highlights of the monthlong festival, which starts on April 10, immediately after the Holy Week. The festival ends on May 10.

Taking center stage is the Mutya ng Magayon Festival 2012, a pageant which has already produced world-class beauty titlists, to be hosted by Ramsey and Guidicelli, and the Higantes, a parade of giant effigies which are all Albay mythological characters.

The festival highlights include the Ginoo ng Magayon Festival 2012, to be hosted by actress Lovi Poe; Concierto sa Magayon, with Jhong Hilario and Kiss Jane; Concierto Pasasalamat; Magayon Lyre, Drum and Baton Competition; Gayon Bicol Festival Showdown; Daragang Magayon Legend Showdown, the street dancing and festival queen presentation; Hot-Taw sa Karaonan; and the Sili Viand Eating Contest, among others.

Had our late lunch here last Thursday. Except for their pasta laing, their food are intended mostly for locals who desire formal ambiance with continental food. My wife ordered their spicy shrimps which was cooked like the Ilocano dinengdeng and she liked it. My wife is from La Union. :). OUr lunchmates were mostly foreigners - Caucasians.

We also tried Small Talk for dinner. My kids fully enjoyed the food so I was not surprised that this restaurant remains to be the most popular among our visitors. Their fusion food are simply fantastic. Making Laing a gourmet food was definitely not in our minds in the past, not until Small Talk made it popular with its pasta Laing and Laing pizza.

The Legazpi Pier is really busy these days. At one time, I counted 10 large ships docked. Although only 3 were docked at the pier for loading or unloading, the rest were scattered within the Albay Gulf waiting for their turn. This means really good business in the province.
