All of the above are actually not fine dining in the strictest sense. Maybe the one in The Oriental is. Not the buffet restaurant though.

A real fine dining have all the works, with formal table setting. They normally require at least a semi formal attire or smart casual. No slippers. No shorts. All the above restaurants do not require those.

SM does not start their construction until their partner tenants have committed to join them in the new mall. Tenants in good standing get offer sheets at least a year advance.

They start constructing once majority of them commit- and partner tenants are given a preview once the mall is about 60 % completed. That is the time when partner tenants would also start building their stalls.

Local based tenantS have been pre- identified by the mall and get invitations together with the regular tenants.

They only accept applicants initially once there are still vacant slots after their regular partner tenants and newly invited partners have committed or rejected the offer.

The remaining slots are open for application and this would be nearing the opening date.

Most of the time an SM mall is already 90% reserved when they start constructing the mall.

Our contract in SM City Naga stipulates that we will be prioritized on South Luzon malls so we get invitation from Calamba and San Pablo even before they built the mall which we declined; as we are targeting only SM City Legazpi for our future expansion.

Legazpi’s black sand beaches entice youth into skimboarding

LEGAZPI CITY, May 3 (PNA) - It’s late in the afternoon and amidst the bustle you see a steady steam of youths arriving at a small pathway leading to the beach. Under their armpits they carry mini surfboard-shaped pieces of decorated plywood – called skimboards.

Coming from work or school, they start arriving on bicycles, tricycles, jeepneys, cars and even on foot and rush to the beach to hit the waves. Sounds like Hawaii? Nope. This is Legazpi City, and these guys are doing what they love – skimboarding.

The sport of skimboarding entails running as fast as you are willing to fall, throwing your skimboard onto a thin film of water (around an inch deep of water is best), and then hopping onto your board and sliding down the slope of the beach.

If you're athletic and talented enough you can do one of three things while sliding down the sand - one is to start doing some wild tricks like handstands or 360s or you could use the incoming wave as a makeshift ramp and launch yourself into the air up to three feet if you are going fast enough on a good sized wave. Or you do what the masters do and meet the incoming wave, turn around, and surf it back to the shore.

After successfully doing this you are expected to throw a “thumbs up” and the biggest smile you can muster as the crowds start cheering.

There are often lots of kids on the shore who cheer on the pros or give useful tips to beginners.

It actually seems like a very easy and straightforward thing to do, but like many other sports, it is a bit harder than it looks.

With a little bit of practice though, a few wipe outs and lots of guts (the faster you run the longer your ride, but again remember run only as fast as you're willing to fall), you can be a skimboard pro in no time.

Well, before you start, you will need a skimboard. These are relatively easy to make. One person can make four skimboards from a whole piece of one-half inch thick marine plywood.

If you are just visiting though, you should head over to Mayon Skimboards and Outdoor Shop at 5th street, Our Lady’s Village Bitano, Legazpi City and rent or purchase your own board.

Board prices range anywhere from P600 to P1,500 depending on how cool your board looks and how much work has gone into it.

After you have your skimboard it is time to head to the beach.

The city’s loose volcanic sand beaches (loose sand makes for a softer landing if you fall) are perfect for skimboarders because they offer varying wave breaks for both amateurs and experts.

Amateurs prefer flatter portions of the beach usually found at the mouth of small creeks and experts will usually choose the areas where wave breaks are the largest.

The beach most frequented by the locals lie between two coconut oil refineries Cosay and Legazpi Oil in Barangay Arimbay. From 3:00 pm onwards, many locals start arriving to enjoy the afternoon Pacific swells. The best time of the year is from February until early June where the waves are at their largest.

The very best part of the city’s skimboarding experience is being able to share the experience with friendly people from absolutely all walks of life.

Because of the affordability of the equipment and the free use of the beach, you get musicians, street vendors, bankers, waiters, business owners, tricycle drivers, students, beach bums, and kids skimboarding side by side.

BICOL HOSTS CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT

LEGASPI CITY -- Senator Aqulino "Koko" Pimentel III will again lead government officials and community leaders of the Bicol region in the conduct of a region-wide summit on disaster-risk reduction and multi-hazard awareness on May 3 at the Aquinas University in Legazpi City.
Pimentel said that government officials and leaders of the Bicol region will gather together to adopt an action plan to effectively manage and reduce the effects of weather disturbances, calamities and natural disasters in the high-risk region.
Similar conferences, attended by the country's experts in climate change, were held earlier in Mindanao and Western Visayas to formulate their respective emergency action plans geared towards effective and efficient disaster-risk management.
Pimentel said that disaster risk reduction is the collective responsibility of the people, and the government has the duty to protect them, particularly the poor from the worsening impact of natural and man-made disasters and of climate change.
"A well-prepared citizenry can truly contribute to disaster risk reduction," said Pimentel, adding that at least 20 typhoons enter the country's area of responsibility each year, half of which makes landfall.
He said that from years 2000 to 2007, eight of these typhoons proved to be the most destructive and costliest in memory, destroying some P100 billion worth of crops and infrastructure projects and claiming thousands of lives, many drowned during floods.
Local officials, led by governors and mayors, members of the academe, the business community and the media and various non-governmental organizations and socio-civic groups, are expected to attend the day-long summit.
Pimentel said that the participants are expected to adopt a Bicol Declaration that will spell out their commitment in enhancing their disaster-risk reduction competence in a unified effort to protect lives, save properties and lessen infrastructure losses during disasters.
The country is one of the most blessed nations in the world with a cyclical wet and dry season. But that gift which is the bedrock of its economy is also one of its greatest threats being situated in the so-called Asia-Pacific ring of fire.
Pimentel, however, believes that when managed and utilized properly, "the blessings of nature can very well provide for the future of the Filipinos and their children's children in the future.

Daragang Magayon street dancing takes center stage at Albay's Magayon Festival

LEGAZPI CITY, May 2 – Wearing colorful costumes, props and floats depicting the Legend of Daragang Magayon, (Beautiful Maiden) over a thousand performers danced their way through the three-kilometer stretch of Rizal Street from Villamor Subdivision to the Penaranda Park in Albay District here.


Dancing to a modern Latin beat music, 10 contingents from the towns of Polangui, Rapu-rapu, Daraga, Tiwi, Bacacay, Manito, Pioduran and Malilipot and the cities of Tabaco and Ligao participated in Sunday’s (April 29) Daragang Magayon Legend Showdown, a street dancing competition that is part of the 5th Magayon Festival, a month-long festival in Albay.

The street dancing competition showcased the various local festival themes of the 10 competing contingents from the towns and cities of the province, said Dorothy Colle, chief of the Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Office (PTCAO).

With a contingent of over 100 performers clad in colorful costumes, props and a float, Polangui showcasing its Pulang Angui Festival bested other competing contingents by pulling away with the championship trophy and a P200,000 cash prize.

The Polangui contingent also won the Best in Costume and the Magaon Festival Queen awards.

Tabaco City contingent depicting Tabak Festival garnered the second place with P150,000 cash prize while the third place went to Ligao City showcasing the city’s Sunflower Festival with P100,000 cash prize.

The Best Moving Choreography went to the Lubid Festival of Malilipot town.

Thousands of city residents, local and foreign tourists lined up the Rizal Street to watch in amazement the Daragang Magayon street dancing competition.

The event began at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the performers braving the sizzling heat as they danced their way to the Penaranda Park where a jam-packed crowd awaited the contingents exhibiting their colorful costumes and their lively Mardi Gras type of dancing.

Abdon Balde, a multi-awarded Bicolano writer, said in an interview the street dancing performance by the 10 towns of Albay was based on the dance of the three mountains: Mount Masaraga in Polangui and Oas, Mount Malinao in Malinao and Tiwi and Mayon Volcano.

Based on the Legend of Daragang Magayon, the street dancing and parade of giants evolved as the center stage events of the Magayon Festival.

Balde said, “We continue to create the legends of our time because people never stop searching for stories to believe in. We will be using the legends as a potent force to showcase the positive aspects of Albayanos and to attract tourists, entrepreneurs.”

Albay Governor Joey Salceda, taking a cue on the legend and folktales of the province, called on a group of Albay writers, artists and musicians to create stories and events that would be incorporated in the yearly Magayon Festival.

“If we have personified Mayon in a timeless legend about star-crossed lovers, we could also personify other mountains and rivers and woodlands to create stories that would highlight our own culture,” Salceda said. (PNA)

LEGAZPI CITY -- Some P1,738,697.00 contract for a two (2) week free TV and radio advertisement for the Labor Day celebration was inked by DOLE-Bicol Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra and ABS-CBN Station Manager Ms. Amy Villafuerte on April 20 for what could be the highest free media value tie-up in the history of the region.

The million peso tie-up was for the promotion of the region’s Labor Day Activities specially the massive region wide or rather worldwide plugging of the Mega Jobs Fair at SM Naga on May 1.

The Labor Day Mega Jobs Fair is considered to be the biggest Jobs Fair in Bicol and is the culminating activity of the Labor Day celebration. ABS-CBN is one of the three (3) major private partners for the Labor Day Jobs fair.

The other partners are Shoe Mart (SM City) Naga which will provide the free use of venue and Naga Colleges Foundation (NCF) which will contribute manpower to help usher the event and additional media mileage.

“The government just saved millions of tax payers money on this tie-ups. All for the benefit of the Bicolano people. As I always say, let us join forces and help this region.” RD Lacambra said.

The tie-up also included live TV and radio guestings, tarpaulin set-ups, and the provision of local dance talents “Kapamilya Mas Winner Ka -Dancers” for intermission numbers during the event. The deal was finalized after the 45-minutes combined live TV and radio guesting of DOLE-Bicol Asst. Reg. Dir. Exequiel Ronnie A. Guzman on April 25 at ABS-CBN Station in Naga City.

“Actually it was a done deal. The final meeting with Ms. Amy was for courtesy for their support. In fact, she also promised to give us the famous KMW Dancers to entertain during the event.” ARD Guzman stressed.

ABS-CBN’s ads will run from April 26- April 30, 2012 in all its FM radio and TV stations region wide with live feeds and news buffers at the Regional News Group (RNG) and the Asia News Channel (ANC). There will also be an event reporting at TV Patrol World during May 1.

Aside from this tie-up, ARD Guzman attended a press conference sponsored by Embarcadero de Legazpi on April 24 which was attended by some 8 radio stations in Legazpi and Naga City with the signing of a MOA between DOLE and the Management of Embarcadero for the free use of the latter;s facility for Job Fairs. A radio hopping was also attended by ARD Guzman in 4-radio stations and a Tele-Radyo in Naga City sponsored by PIA Cam. Sur on April 25 to highlight the conduct of Job Fair on May 1.

PhilHealth Bicol to members: avail of 50% discount on premium contribution

LEGAZPI CITY -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in the Bicol region reminded their individually paying members to avail of the 50 percent discount on their annual premium contribution.

In line with the increase in premium contributions set to start by July this year which requires individual paying members with average monthly income of P25,000 to pay an annual premium contribution of P2, 400, the 50 percent discount is one way to save and minimize the impact of the increase, said PhilHealth V Information Officer Paulette Santiago.

The discount can be availed by the said members who will pay their whole year premium contribution within January to June this year.

Santiago further said the discount applies to premium contribution not only for this year but also for 2013.

“They can also pay in advance for their 2013 premium contribution. With the discount, they can only pay P1, 200 per year instead of P2, 400.”

The said discount can also be availed by newly registered Philhealth members provided that they pay their contribution before July 1 in which the new premium will take effect.

“Some members might be apprehensive to avail of the discount but it’s one way for them to save that certain amount. With the contribution made in advance they will be also saved from being bothered by payment deadlines,” Santiago added. (MAL/SAA-PIA 5, ALbay)

That's one reason why i was so disgusted with this thread, instead of going fast and yet it's somewhat bias, even in media, they're trying to manipulate in favor of their style and desire.

I agree with the urgent need to have more newspapers, TV and radio stations based in Legazpi to counter the above mentioned negative propaganda from other sources...otherwise Albay will always be at the mercy of these biased journalists.

That's one reason why i was so disgusted with this thread, instead of going fast and yet it's somewhat bias, even in media, they're trying to manipulate in favor of their style and desire.

I agree with the urgent need to have more newspapers, TV and radio stations based in Legazpi to counter the above mentioned negative propaganda from other sources...otherwise Albay will always be at the mercy of these biased journalists.

It was called fusion jazz though which was very popular. But every Sunday, it featured an all mainstream jazz in the afternoon hosted by THE Brother Wayne. Hah nostalgic.

I mean in the late seventies palan when Boy Katindig started to become very popular not nineties.

Will Albayanos existing purchasing power or disposable income sustain the economic surge? I think the province needs high- growth industry and the one holding us back is affordable electric rates. I previously mentioned the following high-growth industries in my quotes: Manpower exports, more tourism, BPOs, electronics and semiconductor devices, high-value garments and fashion goods, high-value furniture, food and agribusiness, wellness, health, and beauty services, logistics, retirement villages, education and environmental friendly mining. With affordable electric rates and plethora of real estate Albay can do this.

Regarding duman sa TV News, i still prefer the old TV Patrol Bicol, mas magayon ang programming with Legazpi City at the background of the Newsroom.

Yung sa relationship naman nang Albay with other provinces especially Sorsogon, well Sorsogon was once part of Albay if i'm not mistaken kaya siguro may pagkakapareho sa ugali.

When I worked/stayed in Manila years ago, I listened to Citylite 88.3 for jazz and fusion and some bossa; the Master's touch, 98.7 when I liked classical; and NU 102.7 for new wave rock. Of these stations, I think only 98.7 is still airing (at least playing the same format). Whenever I'm up there, I search for jazz stations, although I can tolerate some mellow rock and R&B.
I hope Fox becomes jazz, fusion, and bossa station 24/7. :)
