frank321 May 25th, 2012, 11:48 AM The Oriental's price is understandable 'cause its a 5-star hotel, a first in the Bicol and the view it provides is undeniably stunning. One of a kind in our egion.
The hotel itself has become somewhat a little tourist destination because of its location and its prestige. Kung diit man ang tawo kaiyan ok lang yan ta pretty soon.. that hhotel will be bustling with tourists, foreign and domestic, once SLIA opens up. We can expect more hotels like that to rise soon. Foreign tourists will surely want the best so they can fully enjoy their stay here in our city :okay:
frank321 May 25th, 2012, 11:51 AM Good news! Hotel Ceniega and Z hotel of Asturias company will rise in the boulevard.
10 hotels are rising in metro legazpi according to my source and this was stated in a newspaper too with Gov. Salceda.
Albay has the most number and best hotels in Bicol!
Nice. So dalawa na yan,... 8 pa to be able to accomodate the tourists coming :okay:

Chos he shouldn't. I pity these Bicolanos who inflict untourism to Albay just to uplift their own place. That strategy had worked before but not now! That secret was known! Albay is safeguarded from that kind of strategy. Sabi nga alam na! Huli na! :ohno:

I'm sure you're just being nitpicky. Being from a rival city, there's no doubt about that. (Aminin!) Everything you've said does not deserve any credence because you're very partial and it radiates from every message you've posted here. I've been to the hotel once and I can say that it's perfectly suited for honey-mooners. The breath-taking views of both Mayon and the city cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. The view of Mayon is never generic. If you've been staying here for all your life, you'll never say that. It looks differently from place to place, from time to time, even from minute to minute. I'm sure, you'll never appreciate that because you're from a rival city, and you're always partial to it.
You've mentioned all these imperfections. But a concerned Bicolano will never ever divulge these in public. This is the worst place to express criticisms over a certain hotel that could possibly generate revenues for the region, which could actually help generate revenues for your province as well. I think you're way too old to learn this this late. Otherwise, you're just trolling here and that merits brigging/banning. I hope the mods/admins create a device wherein some people cannot post in certain threads because they only create nuisances therein, or provoke CVC posts.
Regarding the price, I hope you could've just asked them why. I believe that it will go down soon. Somehow, it had just tested the market for these current prices. The fact that you're given a promo is already a sign that the prices will go down. :) We'll see in the future for some updates and I still wish and hope that this hotel would be successful in the future. In the meantime, let us keep our criticisms to ourselves and instead, promote this peninsular region to the world...

I know you know someone that has a negative vow,
and if you're trying to make it they only push you aside.
They really don't have, no where to go.
Ask them where they're going, they don't know.
But we won't let nothin' hold us back,
we're gonna put our selves together,
we're gonna polish up our act!

I know you'll refuse to be held down anymore!

bleustx May 25th, 2012, 05:36 PM The problem Mega, ( I don't know if you noticed them during your stay)although it is beautiful, there are some features that elite guests would find annoying...
1. The tap water is rusty and turns yellow on the bathtub...
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Oriental/IMG_3898.jpg
It's a trick of light. Usually hotels use incandescent light (yellow) to accentuate a space. The light obviously reflected on the water in the tub.
2. For a one bedroom Suite that costs 20,000 pesos, Amenities are very basic...
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Oriental/IMG_3845.jpg
I believe it would be different if you really paid 20,000.
3. The terrace is devoid of any furniture and there is only one phone on the bedside. None in the two toilets and at the recieving area. The phone is unfortunately is only an intercom. You have to go down the lobby if you want to use a landline or somone contacts you thru their number.:ohno: You don't see this primitive feature anymore even in the smallest hotels these days.
Phones in comfort rooms are not even necessary. You have a cellphone to contact people. The personnel in charge on the lobby will notify you and connect you to the person who is trying to contact you. Bat ko to pinapatulan? :bash:
4. And the room on a daylight looks like a plain dormitory as the furnishings are basic...
Minimalism at its finest. Google that.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Oriental/IMG_3791.jpg
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Oriental/IMG_3792.jpg
...though the transformation at night due to the brilliant lighting- is beautifully breathtaking...
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Oriental/IMG_3882.jpg
5. Not a single mirror nor a dresser in the room for the ladies...
http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Oriental/IMG_3799.jpg
Dressers and mirrors are often found in the comfort rooms, sir.
6. The breakfast buffet (for that price) had very limited choices.
How limited is limited? Please don't expect too much since you only got that in a very discounted price.
I'm not elite but for 20,000 pesos/night- it would be unavoidable to compare it to say- Oakwood. the bargain price of 9,700 pesos/night- it would be compared to Sangri- La or Marco Polo.
I am not putting the hotel down. It's a beautiful hotel, we enjoyed our stay- the things I mentioned above (except for the water quality and phone inavailability) are minor and understanble in a budget hotel.
The staff, being Bicolanos are over friendly.
In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful hotels in Bicol- but I still firmly believe that they have to re- price.
We did not have any problem with Misibis though but they belong to different categories.
They have to re- price or correct the said problems.
My reactions are in bold. Well played sir, but we are not gullible. :ohno:

panganuron23 May 25th, 2012, 10:39 PM Potable Water will soon to come in Southern part of Legazpi (http://legazpicity.gov.ph/news.php)
The City Government of Legazpi received the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) Subsidy in the amount of P 3.0 M through the Department of Interior and Local Government Region V for the proposed Water Supply System Level II Project at Barangay Banquerohan, Legazpi City.
The PCF for Local Government Units, being administered by the DILG in collaboration with the DBM, is an incentive fund for LGUs in the form of counterpart funding to high-impact capital investment project, to recognize good governance performance particularly in the adoption of “good housekeeping” along the governance areas of development planning, sound financial management, transparency and accountability and valuing performance monitoring.
The project, with an estimated cost of P 6.0 M, (P 3.0 M from PCF and P 3.0 M from the LGU as counterpart) comprises piped distribution system, hydrants and connectors, as part of residential infrastructure in the locality and as such, is sited close to dwellings particularly in Barangay Poblacion. The facility will meet the water requirements of the local residents, about 352 households, of the public sector, in general, and of the agriculture sector of said barangay. The distribution of water will take place via distribution system or piping supply. Consumer beneficiaries of the project when given enough resources and opportunity may opt to be directly connected to the piped supply system.
Mayor Geraldine B. Rosal said that with the project, sufficient water supply for all users will be provided with satisfactory hygienic standard to consumers, to eliminate health risk, brought about by contaminated water.
The City’s commitment to the people of Banquerohan is that, the social benefit will definitely for out-weight the project construction cost and economic benefit is eminent, with the beneficiaries can feel the relief by the presence and availability of the water system in their midst.
She also emphasized to enhance the administrative capability of Banquerohan Rural Water Works System to manage economic enterprise project.
Documentary requirements were submitted to DILG to qualify and avail the PCF Program and facilitate the release of funds through DILG Region V. The City Planning and Development Office - Special Projects Division, the City Engineer’s Office and Sanggunian Panlungsod were involved in the preparation of the documentary requirements.
Memorandum of Agreement was executed by and between the City Government and DILG Region V, signifying interest to participate in the DILG PCF Program which was supported by SP Resolution No. 0143-2012.

DARAGA — Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas will help complete the Southern Luzon International Airport for a 2014 opening with his approval of an additional P2 billion budget, an official said.
Albay Governor Joey Salceda said the fund came from last year’s unexpended P8.5 billion Public-Private Partnerships Fund, noting that he expected the next P2 billion released in 2013.
“The international airport is critical to the realization of the 650,000 foreign tourist arrivals target set for year 2016 by the Albay–Sorsogon–Masbate Tourism Alliance or ALSORMASTA,” he said.
The new international airport is located in Barangay Alobo in Daraga town, Albay.
Salceda, also chairman of the Bicol Regional Development Council, the Legazpi Domestic Airport is jampacked by 11 flights daily and SLIA is designed to prevent the 22 percent flight cancellation rate in 2011 due to bad weather.
He said experts have dismissed plans to expand the Legaspi terminal due its proximity to Mayon Volcano even as flights are curtailed by sundown due to the absence of night runway illumination.

garycooper May 26th, 2012, 12:53 AM It's a beautiful hotel jhid. Picture perfect as there a very few people even on peak hours.
Sadly it's peacefully devoid of any activity. Notice the empty lobby lounge taken between 7:30 to 8:00 PM which is supposed to be the busiest time in any hotel.
They should think twice of re- pricing to bring in more people.
The room that we stayed (Executive Suite, Mayon View 4th to 5th floor) has a regular tag of 20,000 pesos per night. We got it for a promo price of 9,700 pesos.
Even for a promo price of <60 %, still expensive than Shangri - La.
The view is magnificent view but that is generic everywhere in Albay. A tourist can enjoy the same view anywhere in the city without spending a fortune.
Still, its a beautiful hotel.
It's not fair to compare the prices of the Oriental with Shangri La. Shang is a completely different class and their prices are way above Oriental's. Shang Ri La hotels are 5 star or even 6 star. In its truest sense, we do not have a 5 star hotel in Bicol. The Oriental is only 4 star and it is already the best we have in Bicol outside of Misibis.
I just came from Mactan Shangri La two weekends ago with my family and I paid P9,700 per night for a regular sea view room and that was already a promo rate for locals. For tourists that room should be priced about $400 per night or about P17,000. Visit their website if you don't believe me.
I agree that that P20,000 is quite pricey for us local mortals but P9,700 for a suite in a hotel like Oriental should be a giveaway.
There is what you call lean days and peak days.
But we really need more hotels in the mold of Oriental and St Ellis to bring down the prices otherwise they will take advantage of the scarcity of high end rooms.

That's right Sivah. But the rating for The Oriental is still high both at trip advisor and agoda. Ang gibuhon lang talaga kang Oriental is to improve their services based on the reviews. Remember, The Oriental is only 7 months old.
megalegazpi May 26th, 2012, 02:26 AM That's called minimalism. It's actually one of two hotels in Legazpi using minimalist designs, the other being Hotel. St. Ellis. This makes the hotel unique. Most guests actually liked the minimalist nature of the hotel. You're actually one of the few who didn't.

drfeelgood17 May 26th, 2012, 02:34 AM Roxas approves P2b for new Bicol airport (http://news.manilastandardtoday.com/2012/05/26/roxas-approves-p2b-for-new-bicol-airport/)

I've also seen another extremely negative "review" about Legazpi on another website, sadly I forgot which one. Of course, it's entirely possible that people can have negative experiences when travelling, it happens to everyone from time to time BUT... this so-callled "review" was so unrealistic it was almost hysterical. It was basically telling tourists to stay away from Legazpi. If you're going to post fake reviews, at least try to make it credible.

frank321 May 26th, 2012, 03:28 PM The Aquino administration has just undertaken a P63-million advertising campaign over CNN. The DoT and the departments of Budget and Management, Finance, and Trade and Industry, and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas will shoulder funding for the campaign. The DoT said the 30-second spots on CNN cost about $19,000 each (P800,00/30seconder). The rollout of the ads was timed for the ADB meet and CNN’s special Eye on the Philippines programming. It will run in key international markets until August.

panganuron23 May 26th, 2012, 08:08 PM PROPOSED PRIORITY PROJECTS IN LEGAZPI CITY
Part 1
City Dormitory
http://www.legazpicity.gov.ph/images_pages/dormitory%20perspective.jpg
The proposed City Dormitory is a 3-Story Building that would serve as an alternative to hotels, inns, pension houses, apartelle and hometels. This will be centrally situated between the City Central Bus Terminal and the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation, and considering the fact that Legazpi City is the convergence of business establishments such as firms, food-chains, sidewalk hawkers, etc., the influx of businessmen, students, local tourist guests will be served in maximum capacity.
Crisis Intervention Center for Battered/Abused Women and their Children
http://www.legazpicity.gov.ph/images_pages/CRISIS%20CENTER%20%28PERSPECTIVE%29.jpg
Alongside the existing Legazpi City Youth Home, the proposed location of the project is in Barangay Puro, Legazpi City. It has a total land area of 1,368.89 sq.m. and is within a General development Area. The site is within the rural area of the City which is about 2.07 kilometers away from the city proper. It is accessible to community facilities such as school, places of worship and hospital/clinic, and is far from conflict area, cliff, rivers, gas and power stations, and the barangay roads.
LEGAZPI CITY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) PARK
http://www.legazpicity.gov.ph/images_pages/it_park.jpg
One of the strategies of the City Government of Legazpi, is to develop and promote the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) inductry not only in the city but also in the Bicol Region. This will replace the existing Ibalong Centrum for Recreation (ICR) at Barangay Kapantawan, Legazpi City. The IT Park will be established to suit the specific requirements of IT locators such as fiber optic telecommunication facilities, uninterruptible power supply, computer security and building monitoring and maintenance system, IT business technology incubation center, fire system, 100% emergency back-up power system, central shiller-type air conditioning system and executive toilets. The IT Park will also include the following amenities: convenience and specialty shops, gymnasium and health spa, food court, open air courtyard, business and executive lounge.
EXPANSION/DEVELOPMENT/OPERATION OF THE LEGAZPI ECONOMIC ZONE
http://www.legazpicity.gov.ph/images_pages/ecozone.jpg
Initially, the city will develop 33.1318 hectares of land at Legazpi Southern Area as SEZ Phase I. Under Phase I, the City`s counterpart role are (1) 33.1318 hectare city owned lot SEZ site (2) conversion of propose site from agricultural to other urban uses, (3) preparation of feasibility study, subdivision scheme, and (4) preparation of other pertinent papers required by the Philippine Economic Authority for Presidential Proclamation as ECOZONE. On the other hand, the co-partner counterpart is to develop, maintain and operate the ECOZONE. In order to attract investors to locate their business in the area, the proponent intends to provide the following facilities/utilities, road network, perimeter fencing, standard factory building, sewerage and drainage, parks and landscaping, administrative building, power supply system, water supply system, telecommunication system, solid waste system and waste treatment. As envisioned by the proponent, the Legazpi City Special Economic Zone Phase I will cater to export export oriented industries ranging from small to large manufacturing firms.
panganuron23 May 26th, 2012, 08:21 PM PROJECTS LINED UP TO EASE FLOODING IN ALBAY (http://www.dpwh.gov.ph/offices/region/05/index.asp)
One of which is the Reconstruction of Pili Bridge along DM Junction Legazpi City-Sto. Domingo-Camarines Sur Boundary road (Phase I), Penaranda St., Legazpi City, fronting former Albay Hotel. Several alternate routes were identified by the City Government of Legazpi for the convenience of the traveling public. “The bridge length will be increased from 12.60 meters to 15.60 meters plus one meter elevation, purposely to accommodate the great volume of water discharge that resulted to flooding on the road pavement during heavy rains,” explained Director Dequito. The project has an allocation of P11.30 million sourced from the CY 2012 DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program. This amount is for the removal of the old structure, construction of the bridge substructure, concreting of roadway, base preparation and for the bridge approaches. The project is targeted for completion on the last quarter of this year.

Those hotels and inn in the city, can already accommodate thousands tourist, but still we need more hotels for more influx of tourist all over the globe and summer is the most numbered visitors, but with the incoming again of national conventions, we need more like that Hotel Ceniega, the 500 rooms hotel at the boulevard, that hotel soon at Washington and that at Cabangan and at Old Albay...............
PAGING NATIONAL HOTEL PLAYERS................COME TO LEGAZPI AND BE PART OF OUR BOOMING HOTEL ENTERPRISE.
Can we expect Shangrila , Intercon, Regency, etc. someday here in the city?
For now we have the best hotel so far..............The Oriental , Venezia, Hotel St. Ellis and Misibis Bay:banana:

Dante_54 May 27th, 2012, 04:48 AM PROPOSED PRIORITY PROJECTS IN LEGAZPI CITY

Yup, Sorsogon roads are some of the best I've seen in Bicol: well-paved and well-maintained. I can't say the same for the roads between Albay and Quezon: ill-maintained and often dangerous; also "repair works" have been dragging for decades and it's still "not done".

Perlite quarries abound in the southern barangays.
Anyway; kun wara pang pangaran iyan na bulud, let's call it Lamba Baldhead Hill, or, less colonial, Kalbong Angog, heheh. This is not new, i.e., two names for one geographic site; e.g., Sleeping Lion, aka, Kapuntikan Hill. Kalbong Angog na sana, nganing an tourist guide will have the task of translating it to Baldhead.

Monsi May 27th, 2012, 10:43 AM Sa may parking lot ba ini? Pasain ining bagong road?
Opens up to the roundabout facing the south entrance of Puregold; yup, near the parking area. It straddles the lower western flanks of Kapuntukan Hill, and as you can see in the latest aerials of Dex, it should be at least four lanes wide, a serpentine 'S,' and from the flats of Rizal and Dapdap, it promises to provide the most dramatic and panoramic introduction to EM, the Port Basin, Albay Gulf, and the Boulevard.

I think so too. All it needs is a good beach and some interesting buildings to compliment it. If the old "downtown" or CBD could be improved tourists will start to treat Legazpi as a tourist destination in its own right, rather than just a stopping point for other destinations and sights (chiefly Mayon...)

My only wish is for the boulevard to be extended all the way to Sorsogon City. Gayun sana mag back n forth pa-Sorsogon then back to Legazpi.
If this is realized, Legazpi Boulevard might experience the same effect that Rizal Street has experienced being in between a bustling city and a progressive town (Daraga and Legazpi).:cheers::cheers::cheers:

i've heard over the radio today, mas papalakasin pa daw ang promotion ng 30-hectare sunflower farm sa Ligao. 30 hectare is really big and naka kontrata pala yan sa isang foreign company.
panganuron23 May 28th, 2012, 04:04 PM The worst road portion I've ever passed is the one between Tagkawayan and Ragay. Kada pagagi ko na sana dyan pirmi my road repair. Gari dai na matapos tapos an patrabaho, ano yan gatasan kan mga pulitiko and DPWH?
taon taon na lang ata yan inaayos :bash: good thing wara kita ki arog kaan digdi sa Albay, and another thing, i don't know if it's true pero if you can notice nagdadakul an bilang kang mga tawong wara sa tamang pagiisip na nagbabagaw bagaw satuya ngunyan, sabi kan sarong gurang samuya sa Bigaa "pinaruluwas na naman gayod an sa cadlan". well sabi ko nga i don't know If that's true.
panganuron23 May 28th, 2012, 04:38 PM No ‘silver bullet’ to solve Naia congestion (http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/home/nation/27769-no-silver-bullet-to-solve-naia-congestion)
Honrado said the most immediate solution is to convert 14 provincial airports into night-rated airports.
These are Tagbilaran, Legazpi, Dumaguete, Butuan, Ozamiz, Cotabato, Naga, Dipolog, Roxas, Pagadian, Tuguegarao, Busuanga, Surigao and San Jose, Mindoro.
With a budget of P800 million, all of these airports could be opened for night operations early next year.
Honrado said opening new night-rated airports would enable local carriers to depart as early as 4 a.m., and land at any of these airports before sunrise, then come back again to Manila to resume flights to other airports.
