BTW if NYC gets the 2012 olympics (yeah long shot) you can bet Pataki and Bloomberg will ORDER the new wtc to be finished by then. Other than that who knows if construction will start when they say it will.

It's a bit bland and the base overly fortress-like, but seriously, if anything is to be built by 2010 on this controversial (to put it mildly) site- this is a decent compromise. The alternative is to simply not build anything at all, which is a mistake imo.

So build it already- build it and close the controversy which will allow others to build tall in the wake. A few decades from now it could prove a decent infill for taller, more imaginative towers dt. For now, it seems more important to put something up- no matter how bland- on the site if only to facilitate a sense of closure for all parties.

Lets face it, no design will ever match the over-hyped, emotional expectations for this site.

It would be interesting if in Las Vegas they built WTC replicas before September 11th, that would be kinda weird.

think that would be a nice memorial, maybe if included with the new tower. Are all the plots taken up in that render? or is there still space for the freedom tower. If so i think it could be the way forward

anyone starting to wonder why they ever had a competition for the design and asked architects to submit designs??

liebskind won, was forced to work with childs, childs fucked up his design, childs gets told to design the freedom tower. The ONLY things that remain from the competition are the height of the spire and the name of the tower. Hardly worth the competition was it
