Meteora is an area in Thessaly (Central Greece) and Kalambaka is the city under the rock towers of Meteora. The thing that makes Meteora so special is the monasteries on the top of the rock towers. The monasteries,
the amount of peaks to climb and the paths for hiking brings Meteora the many tourists.

Yes its really impressive, both the landscape and the monasteries , i ve been there twice but it was back in the highschool , i ll try to make a visit soon.

I have visited Meteora, but it was back in the 80s, when i was a child, and i can't say i remember much ... I have some pictures though, however they need to get scanned in order to get uploaded ... You see, back in those times digital photography wasnt so popular ( in fact it didnt exist at all :lol: ) :)

One question. What do the geoligists say about the formation of these rocks? Why do they look like this? They remind me a bit those strange rock formations in Arizona and elsewere

Of course, its nothing short of a miracle that churches exist on top of them ... amazing.

Meteora is one of my favorite spots in the whole world, i hope some day i may come to Greece and enjoy the amazing views from the top of the rocks. Simply Amazing !!

Yes, i met in the U.S. a wonderful and beautiful girl from Thessaloniki. Her name's Alice Vardakoglou, she helped me to learn some phrases in greek. Any time you come to Mexico will be my pleasure to show you my country. By the way Greece an Mexico are quite similar, both countries were developed from ancient cultures, the weather, beaches, and landscapes are very similar. Im very proud of my culture even having vasque and lebanese background.
Greek gods were not wrong by choosing the real paradise on earth...Grece !!

Excellent pictures.

Meteora is one of my favorite locations in our beautiful country. Plus, it is also one of the few landscapes in Greece where the natural scale is grandiose. Like in the grand Canyon for instance but in a much better natural setting in my humble view.
