Pretty cool images, long foot! :)
It is fantastic to see that big majority of these old buildings are still there around us, making upper and lower town of Zagreb look very traditional :)

here's more :

Great work guys. You have no idea how hard I have tried to find old pictures of Zagreb. I'll be saving all of these to HD.

Thanks Long Foot.

By the way, which building is this? Is it still around as I can remember ever seeing it in Zagreb?

I love old urban photography.
Is this a theater?

I think there is a couple of those of similiar design in CE Europe. There is one in Cracow for sure.

BTW - Is Zagreb that dense nowadays?

Ohh, this is in Jurisiveca street, building of Croatian Post (Hrvatska Posta), it is still there, just those weird looking towers or chimneys (dont know for sure what their purpose was) were taken down, other than that the building still looks the same as in the picture :)

The architectural feature is of course a "Mansard Roof" which I think is such a pity that it was removed. Thats what made the building look so distinctive and probably why I didnt remember seeing it. :ohno:

Personally I hope one day this roof gets replaced. Is it a flat roof now?

I wouldn't say it is very flat, but agree with you that those parts shouldnt have been taken down, it would've looked cool today :)

Here is what it looks like today, the redish one on the right side :)

Indeed the first picture you mention is the Croatian national theatre in Zagreb. This building was designed by Hellmer & Felner and indeed there are similar buildings in CE. Another one is in the Croatian port city of Rijeka and I think another is in Bratislava in Slovakia. There are others.

The second picture, yes Zagreb is indeed the same in that part of town, little has changed there. Thats one of my favourite old pics of Zagreb. :)
