^ Actually I took it, posted it on SSP. It was a lovely morning view from a hospital site tour.

The one I found wasn't credited properly, but I'm glad you came across it so I could fix it.

i love how dense it is. its long and dense. and it has two tall clusters mixed in there and it really makes the skyline balanced. it really holds its own against much larger cities.

I hope when they replace the Saddledome they simply build a bigger, nicer version with the same name and same saddle roof. Maybe a 24,000 seat Saddledome with a higher roof line. It looks great in the foreground.

You're right. It's a Canadian skyline echoing a British skyline which is imitating Toronto! Olympia & York used downtown Toronto as its inspiration for Canary Wharf.

I agree. It's still a work in progress. Calgary needs that one significantly taller tower to crown it.

Calgary's a city on steroids. It wouldn't shock me at all if they built one in the next 10 years. Demand is far more important than population in determining these things.

wow, this is a big change from 3 years ago. nice.

The Bow doesn't dominate as much as I'd feared it would. It terms of Calgary's size, this is as good a skyline as anyone could hope for. 9.5/10

I'm amazed by the size of the skyline considering the population.

It is very impressive, the Denver area has about 2.6 million, more than double and the skyline is about the same, if not a bit smaller than Calgary.

It's quite something. Almost all of it is office too. If a condo boom takes hold here mirroring Toronto, watch out.

i love the way you can see in this picture how the skyline steps up to the taller towers as you get closer to the center of the cluster.

Also, as a side note, a huge land transaction has occured downtown. An entire city block has been purchased by Brookfield Properties, with the potential to build 2.8 million square feet. In the picture above, it would be just to the left of the tallest building (The Bow), which is pretty much the 'epicentre' of downtown. Brookfield has already started a global competition of a select group of Architects. The last time something like this happened, we got The Bow. Whatever will be built, will be massive!

Excellent skyline....Canada's city skylines are fantastic

Skyline is very dense, very big and tall relative to the size of the metro area, pretty good architecture inc. high ratio of office to condo, and has a nice shape/balance from most angles. 8/10

VERY underrated skyline. IMO, 2nd best skyline of Canada - compact and amazing architecture

Calgary's skyline is starting to get some recognition outside of Canada, but it will likely need 1-2 substantially taller buildings before many people take a closer look. Perhaps, just 1 very striking 250m+ building would do the trick. Herald Square might come close to that height so Calgary's day in the sun could be just around the corner.

What's encouraging is that Calgary has managed to build an impressive skyline that's practically all office. If they ever start building condos downtown like Vancouver and Toronto, the Calgary skyline could very well get much much bigger. I do like that its heavily skewed to office, but condos would add more people/vibrancy to the downtown core.

Somebody recognised it outside of Canada? I didn't even think most people in Canada could recognise it. People just don't tend to be very good at that sort of thing...

People run the whole spectrum from not knowing about what's 3 blocks away to being exceptionally knowledgeable about the world.

Calgary's skyline is rapidly becoming highly respectable by any standard but considering that it is a city 1/5th the size of Toronto, I just can't help but be immensely impressed by what they have built already. Hopefully more quality projects like The Bow are in the pipeline (no pun intended).

Agree; Calgary seems destined for greatness. The skyline is impressive and its almost all office. Perhaps those naysayers who write Calgary off as a flash in the pan will start giving this city credit where credit is due.

It is really one of the most beautiful skylines in the world. Compact, beautiful buildings, dense and the surroundings (woods) make it look even better.

Edmonton has an equally compact skyline, but aesthetically less pleasing than Calgary, but Alberta has two amazing skylines!

Great shot! For a city of only 1.2 million, its easily the best and most compact skyline i've seen. I doubt any city of similar size has a skyline as impressive as Calgary's. 10/10

with the adition of jamison, the Bow, EAP, Centenial, just to name the bigest new aditions to the skyline. they have all contributed to make calgarys skyline that much more drop--dead gorgious. with more on the way, and a rumored new tallest. calgary is smashing its way to the top of the skyline world at a frenzied pace that few if any cities anywhere near its size could ever hope to match. brovo for the devalopers who have made this skyline the world class spectical that it is today.

Calgary got the 4th best north american skyline (in my eyes). :cheers:

i agree with you totaly. there is no doubt about it and anyone thinking differently is just kidding themselves and, or grasping at invisible straws of wishfull hope. mawhahaha:lol: sereiously though, its dammed near perfect and only getting better. lots of big, bad skyscrapers are on the way, and that will be the nail in the skyline coffin for sure. ;)

Calgary's skyline is indeed impressive for the size of it's population, which is just over 1 million.. with corporate buildings owned by Canada's biggest oil companies, it's really a modern, vibrant and glassy CBD...

The little city that could! I didn't think it possible a city this small could build a skyline this big... and it keeps getting bigger and taller. A new tallest is about to break ground with a rumour of a taller one than that in the pipe.

Elegant!

the last photo by witty is just amazing. there are some photos of the bow over at ssc where you can actually make out the massive theater/auditorium, at the top of the tower on the far east end of the structure. it has very steeply sloped theater seating and it is easy to make see it from the calgary tower or photo's taken from there.
