GYRO February 5th, 2005, 03:36 PM I pick Missouri.
TheKansan February 5th, 2005, 04:20 PM Well I will be the only voter for Kansas.
M. Brown February 5th, 2005, 05:50 PM You should say minus the cities. Cuz everybody would vote for MO.
KCN February 5th, 2005, 07:19 PM Removing Missouri and Kansas would make this a lot more interesting.
samsonyuen February 5th, 2005, 07:49 PM Nebraska and Kansas, 'cause I've lived there.
Renkinjutsushi February 5th, 2005, 08:45 PM Hmmm......Oklahoma....because my boyfriend is from there.
mjtinmemphis February 5th, 2005, 11:01 PM I pick Missouri because of St. Louis and K.C. Its one of a few states that have 2 pro baseball and nfl franchises. IMO, both cities are moderately progressive to progressive on the issues of urban development and offers a good quality of life. The rest of the state is full of confederate, backwater hoosiers.

Suburbanite February 6th, 2005, 05:09 AM I vote Oklahoma because I believe it is one of the most underappreciated states in the union. Also because I will be shortly calling it home!

I don't live on the West Coast.
sunflowerstater February 8th, 2005, 05:50 AM I voted for Kansas!

TheKansan February 8th, 2005, 02:40 PM Missouruh ... but not Missouri and without St. Louis and the Country Club Plaza area id vote for Nebraska....coz it is pretty as hell...to me, and I like corn.
Now isn't that insulting suggesting that only the Country Club Plaza is worth seeing in Kansas City.
denvernative1982 February 9th, 2005, 12:23 AM Nebraska is a great state, albeit some areas are terrible such as Central and North Omaha. People dont seem too realize that Omaha and Lincoln's MSA run into each other, the official city limit of Omaha and Lincoln are only 35 miles apart and have 1.1 million people (800,000 in Omaha and 300,000 in Lincoln). Five fortune 500 companies headquarters and Thirty-five fortune 500 companies have service centers. Omaha and Lincoln have many hospitals: University Medical Center, Clarkson Hospital, Clarkson West hospital, Douglas County Hospital, Immanuel Hospital, Bergan Mercy Hospital, Midlands Hospital, Creighton University Medical Center, Bryan LGH, St. Elizibeth in Lincoln, they have a new hospital at 168th and center and two additional large hospitals in Council Bluffs and Madonna Hospital. Omaha has perhaps the best highway system in America. Omaha also has many colleges: University of Nebraska Omaha, University of Omaha Lincoln, College of St. Mary, Creighton, Wesselyn University, Bellevue University, Dana College, Buena Vista University, Peru State in Lincoln and the community college system in Omaha has like 10 campuses. I mean Missouri and Kansas have some attributes that are nice but Omaha and Lincoln have more than alot of major, major metro areas when it comes to hospitals and colleges.

LOL, it was more or less a joke...KC is cool.
Spgfld25 May 29th, 2005, 02:38 AM I pick Missouri because of St. Louis and K.C. Its one of a few states that have 2 pro baseball and nfl franchises. Are you serious about that??? :bash: I live in Springfield, MO's 3rd city. We are not that bad!! We have about 30,000 college students here and I guarantee about 25000 are liberal like me. Just because we are close to Branson does not mean we are all hicks. The majority of shows in Branson have dancers that are male. Can we say gay.......definietely not hoosiers. Branson is not even that backwoods anymore. It is more of a shopping and timeshare destination now.
Minneapolis612 May 29th, 2005, 06:22 PM Missouri because of st. louis and because most of kansas city is in MO
Jules May 29th, 2005, 11:17 PM STL in Missouri tops anything any of the other states offer and it still has KC.
Soulbrotha May 30th, 2005, 12:11 AM what if they all win?
Azn_chi_boi May 30th, 2005, 12:17 AM I pick all 4 states, everyone of them is unique in their own way.
gaviidae May 30th, 2005, 01:17 AM It's not really fair to compare three plains states and then Missouri. This thread is pointless.
SRG June 1st, 2005, 11:24 PM I don't think so.
People would be surprised at how nice cities like Omaha, OKC, and Tulsa are.
But of those 3 states OK is leading. :)
james2390 June 2nd, 2005, 01:21 AM None of them.
gaviidae June 2nd, 2005, 01:22 AM ^But we're not comparing cities, we're comparing states.
SRG June 2nd, 2005, 05:44 AM I think the way to get a feal for a state is to visit the college towns. State capitals too often are the largest city, and get watered down.
So to compare, we have Lincoln (NE), Manhatten (KS), Lawrence (KS), Stillwater (OK), and Norman (OK).
Now of those colleges, OU is definately the best. They have the second best football legacy, and OU is a fine college in every respect. I understand KSU has a fine engineering program that is not to be forgotten. But KU is crap, and NU and OSU are just so-so. I don't know anything about Mizzou.
Now, about the cities:
Lincoln; the largest of the bunch, Lincoln is a metro of it's own with about 200,000 people. Lincoln is wealthy for sure, and not the typical plains city, but is seriously lacking on the "cool" factor.
Manhatten; Manhatten is probably the oldest of this group. Manhatten is also probably the smallest. But you'll swear your in New England. Hardly trendy, but the comparison is mostly about having simillar architecture, a simillar feel (with trees and all), and what I like about Manhatten is the Flint Hills, which look like a page out of Ireland. No kidding.
Stillwater; big on the "cool" factor. Stillwater is home to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, hince it's wrestling legacy, which makes up for it's sorry football tradition, and inability to keep a head coach for more than 10 years. Stillwater is home Eskimo Joe's, a trendy clothing company well known for the shirt that is the world's second most collected. Stillwater is also home to the orginal Sonic Drive-In, and the original Hideaway Pizza restaurant. CBS Sportsline calls OSU's Gallagher Iba sports arena the nation's finest college basketball venue.
Norman; Norman is a big city. Lincoln is bigger, and while Norman only has 125,000 people, Norman is more like an anchor city in the sprawling OKC/Norman metro area. Norman is far enough from downtown OKC (30 miles) to avoid being called a suburb, but Norman's suburbs and OKC's suburbs do merge. So the cities merge. Norman is a wild city, with an uptown of it's own, and several trendy districts. Like Campus Corner, Main Street, Brookhaven. I would love to live in the hillier west side of town, in neighborhoods like Brookhaven, where the wealthiest (including Toby Keith) live. Norman has a vibe unlike any other. Every major city has some sign of Sooner Spirit, and every fall Saturday when the streets get gridlocked, you can tell that 90,000 people are headed to go watch the Oklahoma Sooners kick butt.
