Just wondering what an israeli checkpoint looks like what what happens when you pass one?

You will not have to go through any checkpoints unless you plan on travelling to the west bank or gaza, which I'm not even sure they allow right now. However, if you go to a mall or many resturants and bars you will have to go through a "security check" which involves being screened by a guard with a metal detector wand. I was in Israel in June and usually got a pretty brief check because I imagine I looked very "touristy".

there are no checkpoints inside Israel , the checkpoints you heard of are located at the entrences to the west bank & Gaza strip , and some more inside them on main roads and other locations.
