I'm giving it a 6/10. Again, it's one of those buildings where this is quite tall, but there's really nothing special about it, just a large box. Not only that, I think Buffalo could use a few more taller skyscrapers to maybe make the HSBC Center look more blended in with Buffalo's skyline, because it's really spread out.

HSBC have some great buildings around the world. This isn't one of them.

^ that's certainly true. The height's not bad, but the look of the building is too bland, plain, that sort of stuff.

Bingo!

Plus it looked better in the days of Marine Midland Bank before it had that ridiculous looking "bowtie" up top.

The building is already much too boxy and plain, but when placed in Buffalo, NY as the only tall building in the city, and located far away from the other cluster of buildings in the city, in really appears disatrous

I agree to an extent, however, I think it might look worse if it was located in the center of the skyline, with respect to the Fort Erie/Peace Bridge angle. Think of a constant height of 200-300ft midrises, with a 530ft in the middle. Like a middle finger of sorts. In that respect, I think the building actually salvages as much visual "appeal" as it can by being split off like that.

Any Photoshoppers out there care to make a rendering?

Well I'm guessing that when the HSBC tower was built, they were expecting other bigger buildings to be added to the city, and they would then kind of make a bath from the downtown to where the HSBC building stands.

Unfortanately for Buffalo...this didn't happen. lol

while it's plain compared to the other talls of Buffalo, if the whole city had boxes this one would not look as bad.

HSBC is big, and it was built back when boxes were the new thing 69-70 so if this was built two years ago I could see some justified criticism here, but every city has a box, Buffalo's just happens to be the tallest. lol

a few 700+footers would balance the skyline nicely, and make HSBC a little more toned down.

Im sure all the Buffalo forumers would love to hear your ideas as they are piss drunk and throwing wing bones at you.

The main broblem with this building is its proportions. It needs to be a little thinner. The worst thing about it is its wind swept open plaza at the base. It was built at the height of tthe big empty plaza craze.

Buildings comming down for HSBC (Marine Midland)
