Last week I made a short trip to Lisbon. I found it an amazingly beautiful city, strechted across a lot of hills along the wide Tagus river.
The Old Town consists of the city centre, low between a couple of hills, surrounded by some other old parts of the city located on those hills. The city centre is rather small and doesn't really feel like a metropolis. However, it is very pleasant.
The real attraction of Lisbon can be found in the old neighborhoods around the city center. Especially the Alfama area is great. It's a mess of narrow streets, stairs and old trams. It's run down in some parts, but somehow that's just very fitting for this part of town.
I can recommend a visit to Lisbon to anyone. The city looks fantastic, consisting of stunning old parts and interesting new developments (pics will follow later). Besides, it's a great place for some good food and
drinks.

A street in the city center. In the background an elevator, which connects the city center to the Bairro Alto, an area with a lot of bars and restaurants. Unfortunately the bridge connecting the elevator with the Bairro Alto is closed for renovation, so now the elevator can now only be used as a viewing tower:

Typical Portugese building, in a state of decay, like much of the city:
