Yeah, I guess that the trend of naming condos in TO after other places is just going go on forever.

Why not call a condo Le Addis Ababa or The Bogota. Sounds a lot more pleasing than these boring European capitals.;)

I'm sure if Hemingway were still alive, he would live in this condo. I have no doubt about that.

Anyways, the design looks good. Toronto needs more of these types of buildings. As long as it's well executed, it could turn out great.

I wish people could stop criticizing buildings because of their names.

What might ultimately destroy this building is the crappy green roof.

Actually, isn't it called Chauteau Royal? The Paris thing is just a gimicky slogan. I prefer 'French Quarter' way better than this econo version. Looks like an institutionalized residence. If it looks just not bad in this phase, I hate to think what it will look completed. Even though French Quarter I think turned out great.

Hmmm...well Hemingway did live in Toronto for a while...it was in an apartment building on Bathurst a little north of St Clair. It's now called, oddly enough....The Hemingway LOL!

But if you were a writer in the 1920's, the place to be was Paris...which is where he hi-tailed it to. Strangely enough, if he were starting out today, a great place to be as a literary person is Toronto...don't know if that condo would appeal to a serious literary person though.

God only knows... the thread is from three years ago. Probably one of those faux French Provincial projects that went up, with the green painted Mansard rooflines imitating copper.

Here's the link to the project: http://www.chateauroyal.ca/

Cheap-ass site. But I like the French music.

Still, the project itself - which is almost finished now - doesn't look half-bad. That being said, it doesn't fit in AT ALL. They just took down the crane a little while ago. People should be moving in this summer. Royal bank is opening at the base. No word on the other retail tenants yet.

I love when people bring up old threads and I can see posters who one day just vanished or stopped posting.

I'll bet that building looks putrid in real life.

Horrid. You can even see the fire escape.

I imagine people who use the word "classy" will be buying into this project.

It's actually kind of scary. Because it always leaves you wondering what happened to the person.

It isn't hideous, and at least they have kept the lines reasonable clean without a lot of chotzkes and detailing. The scale is nice and reminds me of a few buildings at Yonge and St Clair.

This faux-historical pastiche is, thankfully, being slowly but surely marginalized.

Personally the only faux-historical style that I have seen done reasonably well is Georgian, and that is due to its simplicity and beautiful proportioning. It takes a bit of detailed knowledge, and very good materials to get it bang on, but it can be done.

There are some faux tudor homes in York Mills that look really nice and tastefully done. If only condo developers would follow suit.
