Danubis i know some stats about the shopping centres in toowoomba. I'll start with westridge.
Major Tenants :
Blockbuster Video
Dominoes Pizza
IGA Supermarket
Specialty Stores : 16
Foodcourt 12 seats
Carparks : 85 open air

Danubis

 12 seats foodcourt... its like someones dining room lol

ill put blockbusters, iga and and domino's under specialty stores, not exactly major tenants... in terms of this compiled list i mean.

Yeah Westridge is a small shopping center. Has 12 seats on one side 6 in the middle and 10 on the other side. One side has domino's brumbys, and a small fish and chip store. the other has chinese takeaway, windmill bakery and a large fish and chip store.

K mart has 28 specality stories. Foodcourt again divided among coffee shops . I would say 75 seats. 550 open air parks. 6500sqm in size.

cool joe, thanx for info, how are you finding the info?! ive been searching all day and can barely find any! its strange that centro or westfeild dont own anything in toowoomba! it would be so much easier to find information if they did

One of my good friends was compiling information for a thesis on urban impact on the human diet and part of his case were shopping centres, position, size. Toowoomba was one of the case study cities. I collected all of his information, i collect everything that seem irrelevant to anyone else. I have to find the rest.

hey have you heard anythihng about birch carol and coyle adding a gold class cinema to the cinemas on the roof? i knew they had designed the complex with the intention of adding further cinema's down the track when needed...

Joe

yeah it was designed for 8 senstadiums and 1 gold class. The gold class has been mention in brochures. They were doing a survey about 6 months ago to see if the patrons would use a gold class. Its on the drawing board , but like everything in Toowoomba .... no one knows anything and then it suddenly appears.

lol tis cool, almost got excited! yeah, i thought they had planned to build the eight cinemas up their initially, but then decided not to close down the strand, instead, built five at grand central and kept the 5 going at the strand. also heard rumours of good old clive building 4 cinema's out at wilsonton to ajoin his shopping centre out there

Joe

Yeah had articles and all in the paper about the clive b cinemas at wilsonton. I think that the viability is not there yet

City Foundry site earmarked for development as shopping centre

AFTER being on the same site for 130 years, Toowoomba Metal Technologies looks set to move to make way for a shopping centre development.

But Toowoomba Mayor Dianne Thorley and TMT (formerly Toowoomba Foundry) workers fear TMT's parent company, Victorian-based CMI, is being courted by the Victorian Government and that the foundry will move from the Garden City to the Garden State.

Sydney-based ICA Group Holdings has flagged on its website that it will develop the site into Foundry Shopping Town.

ICA appears confident enough of getting approval to have badged the project with an anvil as its logo.

The website says details of the project would be posted soon.
TMT manager Craig Fisher was unavailable for comment yesterday and calls to the ICA Group Holdings were not returned yesterday.

Cr Thorley confirmed an application to redevelop the site had been submitted to council, but said it had not yet come before councillors.

Cr Thorley said she was a facilitator between the negotiating parties and would do everything in her power to see TMT remain in the city.

She said she had worked very hard to ensure that Tyco, a company that, like TMT, was an offshoot of the parent Southern Cross group, ?remained in the region.

"Would you think I would work any less hard to retain them (TMT) than I would Tyco?" Cr Thorley asked.

"I'm only the facilitator, but it's my job to keep CMI or Toowoomba Metal Technologies in Toowoomba."

Speculation that TMT might move from the Ruthven Street site, bounded by Queensland Rail yards and Campbell and Bridge streets, has been rife for several years.

Established by Toowoomba's famous Griffith family in 1876, the site has heritage significance and backs on to the culturally significant junction of East and West creeks where the waterway becomes Gowrie Creek.

Member for Toowoomba North Kerry Shine said he had been working with TMT and the Department of State Development since learning last year that the foundry might move to Victoria.

He said a site near the former Toowoomba Public Abattoir had been identified, but had electricity supply problems.

"We encouraged Ergon to work to solve that," Mr Shine said.

He had heard no further, but was expecting an update from State Development today.

Heard anything more about that K-mart redevelopment? There seemed to be some construction there but not sure whether that's for K-mart or not, also I heard there knocking down the old newtown shopping centre to make way for another major development.
