That's pretty skyrocketing, LA is used to be cheaper for living in early 1990s. (Only for house, condon and non-rental building)

Apartment are pretty almost same cost in early 1990s too, it was start $800-$1200 for nice one bedroom, one bathroom. It was mostly in North LA, West LA including on beaches and East LA. San Pedro, Harbor City, Long Beach and South Bay have same cost too like this.

Seattle is great. :)

If I can't afford to buy house in Seattle, so I will live in apartment for good but not live for resting of life. That's pretty common sense.

I thought, paying job will increase more that people can afford high cost of living, Seattle is pretty too overpriced.

Does paying job increasing in Seattle? It helps can afford high cost of living.

^ $1,000 a month = roughly $160,000 mortgage. The best way to afford a home is to buy a starter home first & move up as you can. Many people who are buying these $300,000+ homes are doing so with moderate size mortages ($150,000-$250,000) & cash from the sale of their previous home as the downpayment. Your starter home's appreciation & the equity you build owning rather than renting is how you build the wealth to buy a bigger, better home.

Wow, How does take deal with people who have low paying job alike McDonald's, Burger King, Carl Jr, Wal-Mart, Super Target, PacSun, Hot Topic and most commerical store. Does they can afford $1,000 per month and $300,000+ homes in Seattle?

It's not funny about people who have low paying job, it can causing more migration out since low paying job does not get enough $$$. It does same in Miami and some cities in Southeast US.

In LA and even CA, Only $15+ per hours for low paying job at commerical store area. 2 job will be more easier.

No. Many folks at those places you name are teenagers & the adults working at those establishments should be in management or should grow up & start polishing up their job skills to move up to a new job. The folks who want to work at McDonalds & Wal Mart & want to afford a home don't live anywhere near Seattle.

What is worse is artificially inflating housing prices to appease the radical NIMBYs & religious environmental extremists. We have an artificial lack of supply of housing in the Puget Sound area that is responsible for high housing costs.

Wow, Washington have much differnet work labor than CA, that compared to Southeast state.

In LA and even CA, Only people make $15+ per hours for low paying job at commerical store area.

I wouldn't know exactly what to do about low income workers, it is hard. But we do live in a capitalist economy and people are free to do what they want. Seattle is a desireable place to live, with terrible traffic and a lot of high paying industries. I know there is a housing subsidy levy out there that helps pay for low income housing, but it's a problem everywhere and one where an efficient solution has not been found. It's worse in california, have you seen the prices down there!

^ We need more housing supply & need to make that supply more affordable. Govt. & regulation is the problem. Also the subsidies actually make the problem worse except for the extreme minority connected enough to get the subsidy. Housing levies chase affordable housing away. When you charge the developers of housing extra, that charge is passed on to the buyer in the form of more expensive housing. More expensive housing limits the demand potential, etc. Seattle would be way more affordable (and populated) with more housing supply. Unfortunately, the prevailing attitute in Seattle is to maintain the status quo. At least the mayor partially understands what should be changed.

^ Post them in the general photo section instead of this quiet forum, that should really be split into two forums so the conversation is similar (California & the NW are both different & dynamic areas that deserve their own forum but I digress....). Since Rainier Meadows took a break, I haven't seen much Seattle.

Actually, I think Seattle gets better response here from the intn'l forumers becasue SSP only cares about US midwestern and Northeastern cities...Seattle, SF, LA--who cares....but Dayton, OH and Milwaukee, now there's an urban paradise!
