El Cronista February 16th, 2005, 08:10 AM Initiates Torrena construction
This week started the construction of Torrena formally, which will be the greatest tower of telecommunications and entertainment of Latin America and that will have a cost of around 50 million dollars. The first stage of works contemplates the demolition of the buildings, the excavation, the foundations and the central column. On this phase of Torrena, located in the crossings of the Avenues Mariano Otero and the Lopez Mateos (Guadalajara, Mexico), will be spend around 5 million dollars.
"The demolition and excavation is going to last approximately between 60 and 80 days, once we finish immediately we followed with the laying of foundations of the cellars and the pole", it explained Martín Cuburu, director of Marketing research and Commercialization.
In agreement with Martín Cuburu, the anchorage of the first stage will conclude in October of this year. Later, it clarified Cuburu, the following stages will be made with a capitalization and the sale of the commercial packages.
"The project is going to have three stages of anchorage, first is going away to make an investment through the founding group, soon it will invite a group of investors so that they form part of the project and later the commercial companies with which will enter it is the purchase of spaces and promotional exclusivities".
The promotors of the Torrena project contemplate a period of 24 months for their construction. The director of Marketing research and Commercialization assured that already the sale of a street of municipal property is negotiating with the City council of Zapopan that surrounds the area where the tower will be constructed. Also, he affirmed that already counts with the permissions of the Secretariat of Communications and Transports. The tower, that will have a height of 336 meters and 70 floors, would be tenth higher of the world between the buildings of television and radio with area of restaurants and platform of observation.

One clarification, this is not one of the "surrounding" buildings of the area where the tower will be built: The tower will be located exactly where that building is at right now. ;)

deep sea buildings February 24th, 2005, 12:33 AM if this is going to have 70 floors i imagine the space on most of the floors will be tiny. too small for offices i'd say? so what will occupy the floors? surely not apartments!?!
Bitxofo February 24th, 2005, 12:53 AM I don't like the design of this tower at all... SORRY!!
:(
CULWULLA February 24th, 2005, 01:11 AM so at 336m, will Torrena be worlds 20th tallest tower on completion?

Nick in Atlanta February 25th, 2005, 11:10 PM is good to say, that there are gonna be offices along the 70 stories of the tower...
it's a mix between tower and building... ;)
Awesome concept! I wonder how wide the office tower part of the building will be? Won't it be very narrow for offices?
Another problem will be elevators. With such a narrow diameter for commercial offices, there will be little room for more than a few elevators to serve seventy floors of office workers. In addition, I'm sure that the observation areas of the tower will have their own elevators that go directly from the base to the top. These will take away more office space on each floor. It's difficult for me to see how this tower will have 70 floors of usable commercial office space.

i echo everything you say. i'm not critical of this tower (i look forward to it's construction) but i too fail to see how it will have 70 floors of workable space?! it's too narrow for offices!!
El Cronista February 27th, 2005, 09:10 AM yes it will be interesting to see how they solve elevators that is my primary worry.
chex February 27th, 2005, 10:59 AM i think there could be 3 or 4 elevators, 2 for each pourpose... and it is a reduced space for offices, but, it's like a very slim building, where i think u can fit 2 offices per floor... imo.

CULWULLA September 29th, 2005, 05:01 AM the guyed mast tower (no 9) should definatley be removed from the tower list. its essentially a mast. even thought might have a ob deck ect. just lok at it.
ALL towers should be self-supported!
Also the Torrena tower in mexico is drawn wrong. its roof is 200m not 220m. I reckon there should be a list showing tallest towers to roof. Sydney towers has shortest spire for a tower at only 30m. It could easily handle a 100m spire.

mainkder GDL May 20th, 2006, 11:32 PM Right, you can see there a model of the tower. But unfortunely the viewpoint of this camera doesn't show what's happening on the bottom of the shaft. As I said, I'll have some updated photos by tonight.

CULWULLA January 29th, 2007, 01:16 PM any updates? been 2 months
E -zone ³ January 31st, 2007, 02:00 AM ^^ the big hole's been ready for the second stage for 2 or 3months but there were news that said that the design is being changed (the observation deck and the pole will be taller:) ) but the final height is still going to be 336.5mts. so the antenna will be smaller, the note also said that the second stage is about to begin in febreaury, so wait for news, updates, and new renders soon. :)

Found it on Flickr
E -zone ³ January 31st, 2007, 07:40 AM ^^ that's a 30ft (or so) model of the first 336mts. design, and it's being exhibited on the construction site. I think the new desingn will be similar to the oldest one but not as thin as that one.
this is another model of the oldest design
http://img327.imageshack.us/img327/1105/maqueta023bl.jpg
and this is the old one
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/8043/467customaq7.jpg
^^ i guess the new one will be like this but with "less" antenna and more pole, even though the new design will have less storeys.

CULWULLA July 26th, 2007, 02:45 AM ^thats great. i thought the turret has moved up the height. better then being halfway up tower. Sydney tower is 309m and has the shortest of all spires being only 31m. its turret is nice and high at 250-275m.

Kailyas February 5th, 2008, 04:28 AM cool tower.
beyond 1000 February 5th, 2008, 06:46 AM skyscraper??? or tower????
Both
A skyscraper is actually a man made structure that is so tall it takes on the characteristics of "scraping the sky".
There is NOTHING in the definition of "skyscraper" that means the tower must have floors. This is the purest NONSENSE that has been plaguing skyscraper forums for a long time.
There are buildings and towers and BOTH are skyscrapers if they are very tall. Nothing man made actually scrapes the sky.
A 35 floor building in Toronto is a skyscraper but the CN Tower just a half a block away is not. What absolute RUBBISH.
This tower is a skyscraper, just stand underneath it when it is built and look up and then tell me otherwise.
:bash:
jkjkjk February 6th, 2008, 12:06 AM nope, simple defitition of skyscraper is "buildings with continuous occupiable floors", it is not rubbish.
SeñorGuillermo February 6th, 2008, 12:55 AM Great tower/building.
I hope it's construction ends soon.
I can't weit to see it finish.
Gutovsky February 6th, 2008, 01:54 AM Very nice tower! But... Why is the antenna so tall? Is the city very flat? That's not the idea I have of Mexico...
Also, are there earthquakes in Guadalajara? If so, is the tower protected in any way?
Congratulations, I hope it starts a HEALTHY competition among Latin American cities for the highest building!
SeñorGuillermo February 6th, 2008, 03:21 AM Very nice tower! But... Why is the antenna so tall? Is the city very flat? That's not the idea I have of Mexico...

Congratulations, I hope it starts a HEALTHY competition among Latin American cities for the highest building!
I think earthquakes are rare in Guadalajara.
But in any case it shuld have earthquake resistance.
And whit Infinity Towers and Puerta Guadalajara it shuld have quite a decent skyline by 2010 or 2012.
Cheers.
beyond 1000 February 6th, 2008, 08:35 AM nope, simple defitition of skyscraper is "buildings with continuous occupiable floors", it is not rubbish.
Must have changed the meaning then. The original word meant what I posted above. If you are looking at CTBUH for a definition, then they run their stupid meanings. Your answer might satisfy BUTCH but that is not the original meaning of the word. Still rubbish.
