737NG: The Next Generation for Japan and the world
4 February, 2005

Woke up to some really terrific news this morning. Japan Airlines (JAL) has decided to introduce the Boeing 737NG (Next Generation) airplane to its domestic network. This is a great day for us and for JAL's passengers. It's really something to celebrate.
Boeing 737 photo

Our customers in Japan appreciate the strength of our airplane -- there have been two big contests between 737NG and A320 in this market in the past couple of years, and the 737 has won them both.

JAL has been operating 737s for some time and saw the clear benefits of the Next Generation.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) was an A320 operator, but in 2003 saw the efficiency and economy of the 737NG and purchased it as well.

And let's be really clear about something. Airlines such as JAL and ANA go through an incredibly hard and demanding analysis when they choose a new airplane.

They're meticulous about having the most efficient and cost-effective solution. After all, it's a huge investment for them.

So here's what I take away from all this:

* The 737NG is the most efficient, high-technology airplane in its class, and Boeing continues to invest in the family.
* The A320 is an aging product line. The 737NG is 10 years younger, with newer technology and more efficiency
* Airlines around the world continue to show strong interest in 737, with big results: Boeing delivered 1,500 Next-Generation 737s in the first six years -- reaching that milestone sooner than any other commercial airplane model.

Sometime later we'll talk more about the efficiencies of the 737NG (and their advantages) in greater detail because they are worth talking about: aerodynamic efficiencies, engine efficiencies, structural efficiencies.

But for now, I'll focus on the real winners today -- the passengers of these fine airlines. They're the ones who'll be enjoying the benefits, the comfort and convenience of flying the 737NG. http://www.boeing.com/randy/images/rb_737_lg.jpghttp://www.aussim.com.au/reviews/PMDG_737/Aussim%20PMDG%20Boeing%20737NG%20Review_files/image001.jpg

Boeing 737 Next Generation

The 737NG is Boeing’s latest family of single-aisle airliners, comprising the 737-600, 737-700, 737-800 and 737-900. The 737-600 is the smallest aircraft in the family and the 737-900 is the largest.

Although earlier Boeing 737 models have been flying for many years, the 737NG is essentially a new design, most notably featuring a new wing design and a modern ‘glass’ cockpit similar to the widebody Boeing 777. In the UK, 737NG’s are operated by easyJet & Astraeus (-700), and Ryanair & Excel Airways (-800).

The 737NG simulator is one of the newest and most advanced flight simulators in the world, with incredible daylight, dusk and night graphics. The simulator replicates the 737-700 and 737-800 as these are the two most popular variants, especially with UK and European airlines.

Japan Airlines to purchase 30 Boeing 737NG's
4 February 2005

At a board meeting in Tokyo today, Japan Airlines decided to introduce the Boeing 737NG aircraft on it’s domestic network, settling the carrier’s selection of a new type of small, single aisle airplane for future fleet development.

JAL said it aims to conclude an agreement on the purchase of 30 aircraft and 10 options in spring this year. The 737Next-Generation series includes the 737-700, -800, and –900X types.

JAL is ordering the new aircraft in response to increased departure and arrival slots resulting from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport’s continued expansion and in anticipation of its forthcoming new fourth runway, together with corresponding increases in demand for flight frequency. Factors contributing to the choice are JAL’s need to minimize the number of aircraft types in the fleet and overall business efficiency.

Currently JAL operates 65 single aisle small aircraft of this capacity, including 23 B737-400s, 18 MD-81s, 8 MD-87s and 16 MD-90s (as of February 1, 2005). JAL plans to introduce its first 737Next-Generation series in 2006.

Boeing delivers First Air-India Express Next-Generation 737-800
22 February 2005

Air-India Express today celebrated delivery of the airline's first Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 commercial jetliner.

Air-India Express (AIE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of India's flag carrier Air-India, is leasing the airplane from Boullioun Aviation Services Inc. Air-India Express, a low-cost operator will initially fly from the southern Indian State of Kerala and the cities of Mumbai and Delhi to destinations in the Gulf from April 2005 and gradually expand services as more airplanes are inducted in the Air-India Express fleet.

"This is the first of three Boeing 737-800s being taken on lease by Air-India Charters Ltd. (AICL) for Air-India Express," said Jitender Bhargava, director of Public Relations, Air-India. "These 737-800s will provide excellent reliability and efficiency, which will enable a profitable operation as quickly as possible."

"We are thrilled to partner with Air-India Express in the introduction of a new era of airline service to India," said Dinesh Keskar, vice president -- Sales and president -- Boeing Aircraft Trading, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The 737-800's economic advantages are the result of its ability to generate more revenue by carrying up to 12 more passengers and approximately one-half tonne more cargo than the A320. The Next-Generation 737 is the right choice for Air-India Express."

Aeromexico was one of first in buying Boeing 737-700 NG at latinamerica level and they have worked to this very well, in fact they glide to buy more airships of these characteristics at the end of 2005, at the moment have in purchase 15 apparatuses of these.

Boeing, Aeromexico Announce Next-Generation 737-700 Order
SEATTLE, Sept. 9, 2004 -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] and Aeromexico today said the airline is acquiring 10 additional Next-Generation 737-700 airplanes for its fleet-modernization program.

Aeromexico ordered eight of the airplanes from Boeing and is leasing the remainder. As the transaction was completed earlier, Boeing has reflected it on its orders website in the "unidentified" category.

"The 737-700 remains a key solution for our airline," said Aeromexico Chief Executive Officer Fernando Flores. "The superior operating economics of the Next-Generation 737s are especially important in light of continued rising fuel costs."

The airplanes will be delivered between July and December, 2005. This order complements Aeromexico's 2003 order for 15 airplanes, 10 of which have been delivered. The remainder will be delivered by the end of November.

The 737-700's short- and long-range flight flexibility provides access to 90 percent of Aeromexico's destinations. The airplane also replaces less efficient older aircraft and will allow Aeromexico to comply with noise reduction laws as required.

Aeromexico's 737-700s have 112 economy-class seats and 12 Clase Premier seats, and the largest available overhead storage bins. As with Aeromexico's other 737s, the new ones will have Blended Winglets – 8-foot-long wingtip extensions that reduce fuel consumption by approximately 3.5 percent and increase the aircraft's range up to 450 nautical miles. The winglets improve performance at hot, high-altitude airports like Mexico City, reduce airplane noise by lowering the engine thrust required at takeoff, and help reduce engine maintenance costs by reducing wear.

The Boeing Next-Generation 737s fly higher, faster, farther, and more quietly than comparable airplanes, while offering greater fuel efficiency. It is the world's best-selling commercial airplane family, with more than 5,400 ordered by 220 customers.

Aeromexico is Mexico's largest airline and a leader in on-time performance and baggage handling. It operates Boeing 767, 757, 737, and MD-80 jetliners. From its Mexico City hub it operates more than 300 daily flights to 30 cities within Mexico, 15 in the United States, two in Europe and three in South America. It's a founding member of SkyTeam, the global airline alliance that also includes Air France, Alitalia, Continental, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Korean Air and Northwest.

FL Group increases Boeing Next-Generation 737 Order
12 April 2005

The FL Group (formerly Flugleidir Icelandair) has converted purchase rights from a January order into a new firm order for five additional Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes.

The five new airplanes are valued at $325 million at list prices. Boeing will deliver the five new airplanes in 2007, while deliveries from the January order will occur next year.

"These additional 737s, so soon after the original order, speak to the increasing status of The FL Group and demand for the 737," said Marlin Dailey, vice president, Sales for Europe and Central Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "This further cements a great relationship with a loyal, growing customer."

As with the previous order, The FL Group, Icelandair's parent company, will lease the airplanes to other carriers outside of Iceland. Icelandair ordered two Boeing 787 Dreamliners in February and is a member of the 787 customer launch team.

Boeing looks into raising 737 production
By Dan Roberts in New York
Published: April 28 2005 03:00 | Last updated: April 28 2005 03:00

Boeing is examining ways to ramp up production of its short-to-medium range 737 aircraft as recent strong demand places strains on manufacturing capacity.

Some analysts believe there is now a 36-month wait for the US manufacturer's single-aisle jet, which has proved popular among budget airlines.

This comes as a slew of orders for the larger 787 model have helped close the gap on European rival Airbus, whose A380 model shows their differing views on the direction of the market.

James Bell, the finance director who is acting chief executive while Boeing searches for a replacement for Harry Stonecipher, was cautiously upbeat during a first-quarter results presentation.

"We had forecast that the recovery [in sales] would be gradual," he said. "What we have seen to date is at least gradual and some would say better than that."

But he was more forthright when asked to comment on the fanfare surrounding the test flight of the A380: "We always thought it would fly - that's what aircraft do - we also thought that mid-range planes were a better bet and our orders trend is showing that."

Boeing shares reversed earlier losses to trade slightly higher by midday as investors focused on its positive outlook rather than last quarter's lacklustre results.

Boeing's fortunes improved this month as it won mixed orders from Air-India and Air Canada. It is also expected to announce an order of 18 787s from Northwest. "If the market is demanding that we produce more, we will look at how we can raise production rates orderly to accommodate the increased demand," Mr Bell said.

First-quarter profits dipped as rising pension and stock option expense offset a stronger performance in defence systems and commercial aircraft.

Net earnings fell by 14 per cent to $535m, producing earnings per share of 66 cents, down from 77 cents. Sales edged up 1 per cent to just under $13bn.

The company expects earnings per share of $2.40-$2.60 for the full year, rising to $3-$3.20 in 2006.

"First-quarter results reflect continued strong operational and financial performance across our businesses," Mr Bell said.

The company's commercial aircraft division secured more than 250 new orders and commitments in the period, as the sector continued to recover. Profits in commercial aircraft rose 11 per cent to $389m, although aircraft deliveries were down to 70, from 76 a year ago. Sales dipped to $5.1bn from $5.3bn.

In integrated defence systems, operating profits rose 15 per cent to $847m on sales of $7.5bn, up 2 per cent. Boeing Capital profits fell 40 per cent to $44m on revenues of $237m, compared with $251m last time.

Boeing and SALE Complete Purchase Agreement for 20 Next-Generation 737s
25 May 2005

Boeing and Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE) today completed a sales agreement for 20 Boeing Next-Generation 737s, plus purchase rights for 20 additional airplanes.
The agreement, valued at US$1.1 billion at list prices, represents SALE 's first direct order of 737s from Boeing. Deliveries are to begin in late 2006 and extend through late 2009. It also is the largest jetliner purchase announced by a leasing company since the Sept. 11, 2001, events that severely affected the world's aviation industry.
"This is clearly a milestone in our relationship with Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise, a world-class lessor," said Mike Cave , vice president and general manager, Airplane Programs -- Boeing Commercial Airplanes, in Singapore for the contract signing. "The 737 is a favorite among both full-service and low-cost carriers -- an important attribute in the leasing business."
SALE selected the Next-Generation 737 to attract new customers and significantly develop its global business. SALE cited the 737's value, global customer base, technology, flexibility, reliability and economic and environmental performance in placing its order.
The 737-800 is the baseline model SALE has specified. However, the agreement provides for conversions to the 737-700 or the proposed higher-capacity 737-900X. The Next-Generation 737 family is powered by CFM56-7B turbofans from CFM International.
"We are very happy to have finalized our contract with Boeing," said SALE Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Robert Martin. "The addition of the aircraft to our portfolio will enable SALE to reach a wider range of airline customers and significantly develop our global business."
Previously, SALE has ordered six Boeing 777s and three Boeing 767s. In addition, the lessor owns a number of Boeing jetliners purchased through other sources.

GECAS orders 20 Boeing Next-Generation 737s
14 June 2005

GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) is to purchase 20 Boeing Next-Generation 737s worth US$1.1 billion at list prices.

GECAS also identified itself as the customer for 12 Boeing 737s ordered last year that were attributed to an unidentified customer. These 12 airplanes will be delivered starting late this year and throughout 2006. All 12 have been placed with airlines.

The 32 airplanes on firm order, in conjunction with six 737s ordered last month for lease to Sky Europe, bring to 38 the firm commitments GECAS has made to the 737 family in the last year.

The 20 new airplanes are scheduled for delivery from 2006 into 2008. Six of these airplanes have already been placed with airlines.

"The Next-Generation 737 is popular among the world's airlines and we have been quite successful in placing the airplane with operators," said Henry Hubschman, president and CEO of GECAS. "Airlines appreciate the low operating costs, high reliability and the modern, flexible interior that meets their changing requirements. In addition the 737 maintains its value as an asset in our portfolio."

“The 737 is a great airplane for the leasing market, and we are working closely with GECAS to meet the demand generated by the recovery in commercial aviation,” said John Feren, vice president of Leasing & Asset Management for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Over the years, GECAS has been a great partner and has leased hundreds of Boeing airplanes to fleets around the world."

GECAS has directly ordered a total of 301 Boeing jetliners and currently has more than 600 Boeing airplanes in its fleet.

The total GECAS Next-Generation 737 fleet is nearly 200 airplanes, which includes purchases from Boeing and from third parties. All are in operation with more than 30 different airline customers around the world.

Air Senegal International takes delivery of Third Next-Generation Boeing 737-700
8 July 2005

Air Senegal International has expanded its capabilities with the delivery of the carrier's third Boeing Next-Generation 737-700. The new airplane is equipped with winglets, making it more fuel efficient and offering greater range.

"This first direct purchase of a Next-Generation 737 is clearly a milestone in our growth as an airline. We are excited about our future prospects and we will continue on our successful course," said Air Senegal International's CEO Mohamed Fattahi. "The operating efficiency, performance and durability of the 737 serves us well, and has allowed Air Senegal International to add new regional routes in West Africa and increased flights to Europe."

The latest 737-700 to join Air Senegal's fleet was purchased directly from Boeing with financing guarantees by the United States Ex-Im Bank. The airline currently has two 737-700s on lease, as well as a 737-500.

Air Senegal International was launched in early 2001 by Group Royal Air Maroc and the Senegalese government, which holds a 49% interest in the airline.

Boeing Launches New Longer-Range 737
07.18.2005, 07:06 PM

The Boeing Co. launched a new version of its narrow-body 737 jet on Monday, as it completed a 30-plane sales agreement with Lion Air, a low-cost Indonesian carrier.

The 737-900ER, formerly known as the 737-900X, is designed to carry more passengers and fly farther than existing models of the single-aisle plane.

Chicago-based Boeing said Lion Air's order, which included purchase rights for another 30 planes, was worth $3.9 billion at list prices, though airlines typically negotiate substantial discounts.

The new plane will be the same size as the current 737-900, but will carry an additional 26 passengers, boosting the maximum capacity to 215 in a single class.

Aerodynamic and structural design changes, including stronger wings and improvements to the leading- and trailing-edge flap systems, will increase the plane's range to roughly 3,680 miles, up from 3,160.

The first 737-900ER is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2007.

Boeing launches newest 737 model

The Boeing Co. has launched a new version of its popular 737 that flies farther and carries more passengers than previous models.

http://www.boeing.com/randy/images/lion_air_737-900ER_sm.jpg

Lion Air, a low-cost carrier in Indonesia, placed a firm order for 30 new 737-900ERs and took an option on another 30 of the planes. The order is worth $3.9 billion at list prices, Boeing said in an announcement.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) said earlier this year that Lion intended to buy as many as 60 of the planes, known at the time as the 737-900X.

The first of the new planes is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2007, Boeing said.

The ER version of the plane is the same size as the standard 737-900, but the addition of an extra set of exit doors allows a carrier to increase capacity to 215 passengers from the previous 189. Depending on options, the planes can fly up to 3,200 nautical miles with heavier loads, the company said.

Boeing's Commercial Airplanes Division is based in Renton, near the factory where the 737 family is assembled.

Airlines May Switch To New 737 - Boeing
July 19, 2005

Boeing expects several existing customers for its narrow-body 737 jet to consider switching some orders to the just-launched stretch version of the plane, an executive said on Tuesday.

Boeing announced the launch of the new plane late on Monday with an order from Indonesian low-cost carrier Lion Air worth USD$3.9 billion at list prices. Lion had previously said it planned to buy up to 60 737s, but not the new version.

The 737-900ER increases the plane's top capacity by 26 passengers to 215. It also boosts the range of the existing 737-900 by 17 percent to 3,200 nautical miles -- enough to fly from New York to San Francisco nonstop.

"A significant number of customers who have purchased airplanes in the past year have substitution rights into the 900ER," Mike Delaney, chief project engineer for the 737 program, said.

"They'll make decisions as we proceed in the next several months... whether to exercise those rights," he added.

The new plane could be particularly appealing to other Asian airlines like Japan Air Lines and entrepreneur Richard Branson's low-cost Australian carrier Virgin Blue, he said.

Bank of America analyst Nick Fothergill said in a research note that he viewed the plane as a small positive for Boeing "that goes some way to filling a product gap (against the Airbus A321) and likely provides competitive seat mile costs."

Boeing Launches New Higher Capacity, Longer Range 737
July 22, 2005

http://www.takungpao.com/news/images/20050725-ke-12.jpg

Boeing officially launched the 737-900ER (Extended Range) - the newest member of the company's Next-Generation 737 family - following the completion of a sales agreement for up to 60 of the airplanes from Lion Air.

The 737-900ER, formerly known as the 737-900X, will carry more passengers and fly farther, increasing the capability of the Next-Generation 737 airplane family, said Boeing. The 737-900ER is the same size as Boeing's 737-900, but, with the addition of a pair of exit doors and a flat rear pressure bulkhead, will carry 26 additional passengers, raising the maximum capacity from 189 to 215 in a single-class layout.

Aerodynamic and structural design changes, including strengthened wings, a two-position tailskid, enhancements to the leading and trailing edge flap systems, and optional blended winglets and auxiliary fuel tanks, will allow the 737-900ER to accommodate higher takeoff weights and increase its range to 3,200 nautical miles (5,900 km), making it comparable to the 737-800's range, said Boeing.

Powered by the CFM International CFM56-7B turbofan engines, the new derivative will have substantial economic advantages over competing models, according to Boeing, including 9% lower operating costs per trip and 7% lower operating costs per seat than the A321, which is more than 10,000 pounds (4,536 kg) heavier than the 737-900ER.

"The Next-Generation 737 is the most efficient single-aisle airplane family today, and we are thrilled to have Lion Air as the launch customer to increase the 737 family's capability with the additional range and seating of the 737-900ER," said Alan Mulally, president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "In addition to the unprecedented economic advantages, the 737-900ER shares the same industry-leading reliability of the world's most successful airplane family."

Lion Air, Indonesia's "low-cost" carrier, originally announced its intent to order up to 60 737s earlier this year. The firm order announced by Boeing this month is for 30 of the new derivative airplanes, with purchase rights for 30 additional models. The order is worth $3.9 billion at list prices.

The first 737-900ER is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2007.

To date, 86 airlines have placed orders for more than 2,700 Next-Generation 737s, said Boeing.

Friday, 29 July 2005

http://www.etravelblackboard.com/images/etc/40490.jpg

The Boeing Company and Virgin Blue Airlines celebrated the delivery of the airline's 50th Next-Generation 737, sporting a special 'true blue' livery. The new jetliner, a 737-700, departs for its Australian home yesterday.

The sterling blue paint scheme, instead of the usual vivid red livery, will serve as a flying billboard for the airline's success in the Australian domestic market. The interior stowage bins also carry the names of all staff members, from founder Sir Richard Branson, and CEO Brett Godfrey, to ‘pit crew' ground staff, cabin crew and support services.

Brisbane, Queensland, based Virgin Blue is taking the 50th jetliner less than five years from start of Australian domestic service. The airline's stellar growth reached 40 percent in the year ending March 31, resulting in a profit after tax of $A138 million on revenues of $1.6 billion.

Email Distribution"Virgin Blue has charted its own path to achieve operational and economic success by offering low fares combined with exceptional service for its Australian and south Pacific customers," said Larry Dickenson, vice president, Sales – Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We have been proud to be a partner on this journey, and delighted to see the airline's tremendous success. Virgin Blue's recent win as Best Low Cost Carrier at the OAG Airline of the Year awards is positive proof that it has the right recipe."

The airline's fleet is a mix of 737-700s and 737-800s, running a route network stretching from Darwin in northern Australia , to Perth in the West, Hobart in the South as well as high-frequency East Coast services between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Now 62.4 percent owned by the Patrick Corporation, Virgin Blue also runs international services from Australia to New Zealand under the Pacific Blue brand, and recently acquired the right to operate Polynesian Airlines, national carrier of Western Samoa.

The Next-Generation 737 family delivers high profitability, optimum efficiency and reliability, and is 10 years newer that its competition. It is the fastest-selling jetliner of all time and the class leader in dispatch reliability. Boeing has received orders for more than 2,700 Next-Generation 737s since launching the program in 1993, with unfilled orders for more than 980 planes.

Boeing Expects Malaysia 737 Fleet Decision This Year-Report

http://im.morningstar.com/im/djn_toplogo.gif 10-05-05 04:52 AM EST

KUALA LUMPUR -(Dow Jones)- Boeing Co. (BA) expects Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd., or PMB, to decide by the year-end the fate of the 737 fleet operated by its Malaysian Airline System Bhd. (3786.KU) unit, Bernama news agency said Wednesday.

"(The) most recent indications are that there may be a decision later in 2005, " the report quoted Bob Saling, Boeing's commercial airplanes international and sales communications manager, as saying.

Malaysian government-owned PMB holds 69% of Malaysian Air. The 39 single-aisle 737 planes PMB owns are about 11 years old on average, and Malaysian Air officials have said the airline needs younger planes to cut fuel and maintenance costs.

"Discussions are ongoing as we work with PMB and Malaysian Air to identify the best matches to Malaysian Air's fleet replacement and growth plans," Saling said.

Officials at PMB weren't immediately available for comment.

Malaysian Air officials have previously said single-aisle planes from Boeing and Airbus (ABI.YY) are possible replacements for the current 737 fleet.

In August, Malaysian Air Chairman Munir Majid said any fleet replacement plans would be put on hold as the airline tries to cut costs and turn around after reporting its worst quarterly results in four years.

Malaysian Air suffered a MYR280.7 million loss in the quarter ended June 30, and blamed the shortfall on soaring fuel and other operating costs.

Since a complex restructuring in 2002, Malaysian Air has been leasing most of its planes from PMB. Analysts expect a similar arrangement if new planes are purchased to replace the 737 aircraft.

JAL wants 30 sets of winglets to fit Boeing’s 737-800:

Japan Airlines announced orders for 30 sets of blended winglets Friday for new Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The winglets are a product of Aviation Partners Boeing, a Seattle company that developed the fuel-saving appendages for Boeing commercial jets.

The winglets – vertical extensions of the wings of the 737s – improve performance, reduce noise and lessen fuel consumption on the airliners.

The winglets will be installed on JAL aircraft as they are produced on Boeing’s Renton 737 assembly line. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November and continue through 2010.

Based on JAL’s projected usage of the twin-engine aircraft, the winglets will save the airline a projected 80,000 gallons of fuel per year per aircraft, Aviation Partners said.

The airline also took options for 10 additional sets of the winglets.

gyptAir orders Boeing Electronic Flight Bag for Next-Generation 737 Airplanes
22 November 2005

Boeing is to install its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) on six 737-800 airplanes to be delivered to EgyptAir beginning in July 2006. EgyptAir will use the fully integrated Class 3 EFB to gain higher levels of safety, security and efficiency and as a bridge into the e-Enabled air transport environment.

"We selected the 737-800 because of its high degree of reliability and ruggedness," said Engineer Atef Abd El-Hamid, chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Holding Company. "Adding the Boeing EFB to this airplane will make it even more reliable and efficient, and will let us take even more advantage of Boeing's advanced technology."

EFB is a core technology of Boeing's vision of an e-Enabled air transport system, where data, information and knowledge can be shared instantly across the air-transport enterprise. Using software developed by Boeing and its subsidiary Jeppesen, and hardware from Astronautics Corp. of America (ACA), the Boeing EFB digitizes vital charts and manuals that pilots need to fly an airplane, giving them the information they need instantly.

An instant performance calculator gives pilots the ideal speeds and engine setting for an aircraft, in any weather, on any runway, with any payload, creating vast gains in efficiency, range and payload.

Jeppesen's award-winning Airplane Moving Map enhances runway situational awareness by integrating geo-referencing technology with Jeppesen airport taxi charts to show flight crews exactly where they are on the tarmac. The EFB even gives flight crews a viewer for cabin surveillance systems, helping them meet enhanced security recommendations of recent months.

With 80 Gigabytes of available memory, the Boeing EFB provides plenty of room for new applications as well, such as enhanced fault reporting; enhanced electronic checklists; real-time weather information; and real-time Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) information.

ANA celebrates delivery of first Next-Generation Boeing 737
23 November 2005

ANA (All Nippon Airways) today celebrated delivery of the airline's first Boeing 737-700 airplane, the first of 45 737-700 airplanes ordered by the airline in 2003 and the first Next-Generation 737 to be delivered to Japan.

ANA's first Next-Generation 737 will carry between 118 and 136 passengers depending on the configuration, and features ANA's brand-new seats, which recently received a Japanese Good Design award. The airplanes will be operated on ANA's domestic and short-haul Asian networks.

"This begins the simplification of our narrow-body fleet," said Mineo Yamamoto, President and CEO of ANA. "We look forward to reducing operating costs in this time of high fuel prices with the Next-Generation 737's superior cost efficiencies and performance. Additionally, our passengers will enjoy our new award-winning seats in the 737-700's comfortable interior."

ANA's new ergonomic, slimmer and lighter seats were introduced last month on ANA's Boeing 767-300 fleet, and are being incorporated in all ANA aircraft. Without increasing seat pitch, the new design increases passenger leg room by moving the magazine pocket from knee level to occupy space behind the tray table. To further enhance amenities, a coat hook and stowage pocket have been provided, and the reclining button redesigned for greater ease of use.

In a first for a Japanese airline, a number of the seats also convert into center-row tables allowing the creation of up to 36 Premium Economy Asia seats – a new class for ANA. On domestic routes the 737-700 will fly with an all-Economy configuration of 136 seats. On international routes, up to 36 Premium Economy Asia seats can be created in line with demand, simply by converting 18 seats into center tables.

The new airplane is powered by CFM56-7 engines produced by CFMI, a joint venture of General Electric of the United States and Snecma of France.

Boeing Nears 737-900ER Design Completion
and Raytheon Company Appoints S. Michael Scheeringa Chief Executive Officer

City of Industry, CA --(www.FinancialNewsUSA.com)-- 01/27/2006 - Defense industry news provided by Financial News USA (OTC: FNWU) Boeing (NYSE: BA) marks an engineering milestone recently as company engineers complete 90 percent of the drawings for the newest 737 family member, the 737-900ER. The milestone means that nearly all of the engineering work necessary to build parts and tools for assembly has been completed and released to manufacturing. "This is a critical milestone for the airplane as we make the transition from the development phase to the production phase," said Mike Delaney, 737 chief project engineer. "With most of the drawings complete, our suppliers and fabrication plants can begin manufacturing detailed parts." The design milestone was reached right on the target date, as Boeing works to begin final assembly of the first 737-900ER this spring at the company's Renton, Wash., manufacturing facility. Lockheed Martin Corp.'s profit increased 44 percent in 2005, as its Aeronautics unit posted 11 percent margin growth. The Bethesda, Md.-based defense contractor (NYSE: LMT) had net income of $1.83 billion on $37.2 billion in sales, compared with net income of $1.27 billion on $35.5 billion in sales in 2004. The company's Marietta, Ga.-based Aeronautics division had a profit of $994 million on $11.7 billion in sales, compared with a profit of $899 million on $11.8 billion in sales in 2004. For the year, Aeronautics' sales decreased by $115 million due to expected declines in combat aircraft, which was partially offset by growth in air mobility. Combat aircraft sales decreased by $480 million for the year primarily due to declines in F-16 volume, which more than offset higher F-35 and F-22 volume. The sales growth in air mobility was due to additional C- 130J deliveries and higher volume on other air mobility programs.

Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) announced recently the appointment of S. Michael Scheeringa to the position of chief executive officer at Flight Options, the company's fractional ownership entity. From February 2004, Scheeringa served as Flight Options' chief operating officer and has served as acting chief executive officer since November 2004. "Michael is a proven leader," said William H. Swanson, chairman and CEO of Raytheon Company, "as is evident in the progress Flight Options has made on its Go Forward business plan. We believe he has the background, drive and innovative ideas to lead Fight Options forward in a highly competitive industry." U.S. BioDefense, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: UBDE) announces that they have submitted a proposal to the Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. "Terrorism relies on the element of surprise. The goal of Homeland Security is to take this advantage away by developing the intelligence and warning systems to detect terrorist movements before it manifests itself. We are committed to meeting this goal, by becoming a leading developer and commercialization company of innovative technologies, that can combat threats presented by chemical and biological agents," said David Chin, CEO. The DoD's SBIR program funds early-stage R&D projects at small technology companies. The projects serve the DoD's need for innovative technology development and have the potential for commercialization in the private and/or military markets. The program is part of a larger ($2 billion) federal SBIR program administered by ten federal agencies. For the 2005 fiscal year, the approximate funds are $1.079 billion dollars.

Boeing Offers Efficiency Enhancing Feature for Next-Generation 737
01.30.06, 3:02 AM ET

SEATTLE, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) today announced a new carbon brake option that will reduce airframe weight and lower operating costs for Next-Generation 737 operators around the world.

The no-charge option will save up to 700 pounds in airplane weight and increase the wear life up to twice the number of landings. The reduction in weight and increased durability will lower maintenance and operating costs overall.

"Carbon brakes offer the same stopping performance as steel brakes but with the added benefit of a significant weight savings, which ultimately increases fuel efficiency," said Mike Delaney, 737 chief project engineer. "Next-Generation 737s are already lighter than competing Airbus models. This structural efficiency is a fundamental reason why Next-Generation 737s fly farther, higher and with better fuel efficiency than the competition."

"This new feature demonstrates our continued commitment to offer technology that brings value to our customers and continues to make the 737 the most capable airplane in the world's single-aisle market," added Delaney.

The carbon brakes, which will be supplied by Goodrich and Messier-Bugatti, will be available for deliveries starting in early 2008, following a two-month flight test program. The option also will be available for retrofit on all Next-Generation 737s.

Known for their industry-leading reliability and low operating costs, the Next-Generation 737s are part of the best-selling 737 family. Overall, operators around the world have ordered more than 6,000 models. To date, 95 operators have placed orders for more than 2,960 Next-Generation 737s; the program has a backlog of 1,133 units with a value of about $69 Billion at current list prices.

Boeing Launches Longest-Range 737 (-700ER) with ANA
Posted on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 @ 5:20 PM CET by sn26567

http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2006/photorelease/q1/060131a_lg.jpg

The Boeing Company today launched the 737-700ER (Extended Range), following an order conversion from ANA (All Nippon Airways) for two airplanes. The 737-700ER has the longest range capability of any 737 commercial family member, and is able to serve new nonstop, point-to-point routes profitably. ANA exercised rights to substitute 737-700s with 737-700ERs. The two 737-700ERs are part of a larger order announced June 23, 2003, for 45 737-700s.

The value of the Next-Generation 737 family continues to grow with the 737-700ER, and we are delighted to have ANA as the launch customer," said Alan Mulally, chief executive officer and president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "This new 737 derivative is a great example of how Boeing helps our customers succeed by responding to new emerging airline business requirements."

Boeing is scheduled to deliver the first airplane to ANA in early 2007.

"This special airplane will bring new possibilities for ANA in terms of the routes we fly," said ANA President and CEO Mineo Yamamoto. "It will allow us to explore destinations that could hitherto only be reached with larger aircraft, and further provide greater choice and convenience to our customers."

The 737-700ER is a Boeing Business Jet-inspired airplane, designed for long-range commercial applications. The airplane features the fuselage of the commercial 737-700 and the wings and landing gear of the larger 737-800. The high-performance derivative can fly up to 2,145 nautical miles farther than the current 737-700. With up to nine optional auxiliary fuel tanks and optional Blended Winglets, the 737-700ER is capable of flying up to 5,510 nautical miles.

Sharing the same industry-leading reliability and low operating and maintenance costs of other models in the 737 family, the 737-700ER allows carriers to compete in relatively new markets such as the long-range all-premium class market, or is particularly well suited for low-cost carriers seeking to operate on longer routes. The Next-Generation 737s are 10 years newer and fly higher, faster, farther, and more quietly than competing models. To date, 95 airlines have placed orders for more than 2,960 Next-Generation 737s. More than 1,130 737s are on order, worth about $69 billion at current list prices.
