I challenge anyone to find differences between the Black Sea countryside and the Austrian or Swiss countryside.

Simply b-e-a-utiful.

I wish more people were concerned about preserving the countryside around cities and touristic resorts, though.

you have luck, i am a laz, i speak this language every day at home, its not a dialect, its a georgian/kartvelian language, why we called laz? because the laz had in hirstory kingdoms like lazika, the byzantinians called us laz but we and georgians said to us chani or sani, laz live in turkey and georgia, but the laz dont want to seperate from turkey and accept the republik and nationality turk, so not like some kurds in east-soth anatolia

our culture is to 90% the same, like to the turks in this region to, just the language is different, and our history, there was your kingdom pontos and some of us livid there the most of us in our kingdoms in lazika or named egrissi, the fact is we lived with pontian greeks for many time, later then with turks and armenians, so today this region is the home of turks lazs hemsin-armenians and muslimic greeks, ethnically they could be a relationship maybe, we dont know, but i think it must in so many time 2700 years? i think yes, now all is mixed turks laz greeks hemsin-armenians etc ;) ps: we have also same words in language with pontians, for example ora = time or ela = come ;)

OK, I suppose you mean they have cultural similarities as in the costumes, music etc. No doubt there would have been influences from all the peoples living in that region. Anyway, as for the word ora (time) it is also present in Italian and Spanish. Que ora es? What time is it (in Spanish).

Hello , Lazo . I am interested in dialectology. As I am very sure according to my researches that Laz & standard Georgian do not speak the same language , even though the grammer & big part of the vocabulary are similar. You can understand many words , I am sure . Yes , they are sister languages & related , but not mutually comprehensible , when the conversation goes without interruption between two people. Yes , thousands of years ago , they were speaking the same language , NOT ANY MORE.

Like Icelandic is the relative of High German & Londoner English , but neither of them can understand each other's language fluently without learning each others' language. That was OVER looong centuries ago...

its true that a laz cant understand the georgian language of today, they have the same roots, the kartvelian family: svanians, mengrelians, lazs and georgians, they go different as they do their own kingdoms, so today they are different, but not with mengrelians, a laz can understand a mengrelian, they dont chance so much with lazs, before this designations like lazs georgian etc there was kolxeti, they all speaked the same language before, and nobody said laz or georgian, they said, san or svan, then they go own ways with little kingdoms, and thats why today a laz just can understand a mengrelian from georgia, the others not any more, its the same thing with dutch, german or danish, same roots but today different languages :)

Stanpolitan

Yes , exactly Laz & Georgian are two seperate languages. The estimated time for proto-South Caucasian-Kartvelian language family was around the 3rd-2nd millennia BC in the region of present-day Georgia and Northern Turkey . The first split was with Svan (that was around 2nd millenium BC) , a thousand year later with Georgian (again before Christ ) & the latest split was between Mingrelian & Laz was approximately 500 years ago . This is a very old family tree & an impressive one. I have all the respects to these languages that have small to very small populations & resisted to this day to time thousands of years. Thanks to the mountainous geography of Caucasia & Black Sea
