fuk yes, miami needs much more public transportation... but the huge amount that it needs will take a long ass time to build... and billions of dollars, so its a question of priorities, and clearing through alllllll the red tape in the unbelievably fucked up county government... within a decade or two the system will be much improved, and perhaps miami mite be at the point that a car isnt absolutely crucial

if you ask me, bay link is the first thing that should be built, because it is in the area of miami that requires public transportation, the only true urban/pedestrian area in all of miami, but the beach doesnt really want it cause then thugs from overtown can just hop on the train and be at south beach in about 10 minutes, and the beach is very hard tryin to keep people like that out, so bay link wont be done for a long ass time

in the meantime, i think the east west line goin west from the miami intermodal center being built by the airport will be the first built, simply to due the fact that it will provide the most riders, which the system desperately needs

This is what some Beach residents may believe, but the assertion is completely unfounded, considering that at least 5 existing bus routes (A, C, K, M, S) already connect to the Beach from downtown alone and follow the proposed Baylink circulator route. Building a streetcar line is not going to make crime any better or worse.

^ I thought I read a survey that showed Miami Beachers overwhelmingly opposed to Baylink.

Do you remember the date that survey was taken? The straw ballot question during the November general election showed 55% in favor of Baylink.

It's nice to finally see something rising from that site. There are detours everywhere; I was there the other day, but the battery in my camera died and I didn't have extras with me.

A few other updates:
The trees and landscaping in the cloverleaf of the northbound Le Jeune Rd Airport entrance have been removed.
Significant portions of the new expressway ramp connecting the airport directly with 836 is complete. Those portions that are complete already have lighting (turned on already too!) and signage. Connecting to 836 EAST from the airport will be accomplished via a left "EXIT ONLY" lane.
The flyover from Le Jeune Rd (NW 42nd Ave) to Okeechobee Rd (US 27) is done, but it hasn't been opened for use yet.

My understanding is that the Consolidated Rental Car Facility portion will be built first, then the core will be attached to it.

the other extensions of the metro and baylink are more important than the mic anyways, although it does tie into many of the lines

I think and airport link is an integral part of any transportation system, especially in a touristed town like miami. The MIC will make it much easier to get to and from the airport.

well nimby blame bush to for proposing to slash the transportation budgetI agree with you, I dislike Bush because he nothing to help Miami makes better. The budget for the Transportation agency was $41.499 Billion in 2000 and it was 50.807 in 2003. A 22.4% INCREASE in spending. Source (http://www.restainer.com/skyscrapers/transportbudget.pdf)
It is estimated to increase to $59.073 Billion by the time George W. Bush ends his second term. That is a 42% INCREASE in spending during his administration.
Man, I wish I could "slash" my household budget and be able to spend more than I did in period before. Despite drunken sailor spending, check out the 30 year fixed mortgage rates for the last 5 years...interesting....
