Hong Kong is a place of constant change. Photos from just a few years ago can easily go obsolete as new skyscrapers rise and redevelopments take place. These photos were taken in July 1998, just a week before Kai Tak closed. I was joined by a whole crowd of people on the roof of the airport parking lot, capturing the last moments of airplanes descending over Kowloon City. In fact, the entire district was full of photographers trying to capture history in the making.

I wonder how many air traffic controllers at Kai Tak needed stress management?

Amazing pics, I've seen some mpg's of planes landing there, and seen from out of kowloon, citylife and then an airplane right above. Amazing!

yay... bring back Kai Tak and the Old livery of CX... I miss them!

Amazing photos. Brings back so many memories of what is truly one of the most amazing landing routes in the world. Of course the last few pix show exactly why they needed a new airport , Ouch.

Hi all

I was wondering if any of you guys have any pictures INSIDE the old Kai Tak airport. I've tried looking online and on flickr and only found a couple...

I was so young the last time I used it (the trip when I moved from Hong Kong to America) I hardly remember it... But I really want something to pique my memories...

I used to go to HK with my family for holidays (they luurrvvee HK very much) almost every year when I was young.

I get semi-claustrophobic on aeroplanes hence I MUST fly on the window seats so I always look out the window.

I dreaded landing on Kai Tak, the final approach was horrifying, traumatizing, yet addictive. :)
