@km-sh: Great job on the photos. That looks like an extremely nice area of Shanghai. Do you know what the price is for the apartments? Are they available for anyone to live in who has enough money?

Minhang is a reasonably nice suburb, but is extremely cheap compared to housing units in the city, which are typically north of 20000 yuan/m2.

I wish all the routes on that map would get completed faster. Line 4 was supposed to be completed by now, no?

Truly fantastic pictures. The main thing that jumped out at me though was not the density or the buildings or anything like that at all in fact. It was the fact that there was English printed on the subway map. China is about as non-American as you can get so I found it quite strange that there would be any English outside of advertisements.

The city officials call it "light rail" so we do too; the line itself was once a heavy-rail line though.

English is an international language, and for that matter (obviously) not originating in the United States; it is no different from signs in French in Europe, for example. Also, Chinese signage uses British English, not American. Despite historical frictions, the average Chinese has little antipathy against countries other than America and Japan.

Rarely do I find something genuinely and completely new... this is it!

I assume the empty area along the tracks is earmarked for high density development?

I heard there are about 60,0000 Foreigners live in Shanghai, an international city need English, like the Subway in NYC always has Chinese sign at many places.

Also, this tells us Chinese people are not anti-foreign culture.
