I love those panorama pics. What's the deal with the flags and school children by the way? (the pic in the Plaka district, I think)

OT: If you wanna have fun in Athens you should offer your taxi driver extra money to drive to the airport as fast as he can, and tell him to take an alternative route (along the coast) to the avoid the traffic... I guarantee you the ride of a lifetime ;) :D
Needless to say, the plane I was trying to catch was delayed by an hour..(Heart of the Balkans indeed;)).

Just one year ago (24 May 2005), I posted the second complete reference thread on Athens skyscrapers, which was the development of another one that was posted in the old Euroscrapers forum in 2002. In this thread you will find an almost complete reference to the Athens skyscrapers and how they started being built in the early 1970's, why their construction abruptly stopped in the late 1970s with the last completed in 1980, and what are the chances that we may see tall buildings in Athens being built again sometime in the future and in what context their construction may resume. All that with literally hundreds of pictures of Athenian highrises like never seen before.

every travel mag and website I read, says that Athens has improved big time. Not only the infrastructure, but the cultural and entertainment scene; museums, galleries, restaurants etc as well as the psyche of its citizens.

I've always wanted to drive from Istanbul to Athens. Does anyone have any idea how many hours it takes?

Many hours I am afraid, but you should consult with other to ge6t an idea. I went to Istanbul with an organised tour (by tourist bus that is) and we had to stay in Xanthi (Greece) for the night and then arrive in Istanbul the next day. What is encouraging is that the highway of both countries is constantly improving so for most of the part you are dealing with motorway-type roads.
