If there's one thing BA is not, is unsafe.. I've lived here all my life, walking alone in the street at any time of the night and nothing has ever happened to me.

I really like The Docklands area. Very, very modern. Did that area really used to be docklands, like the Canary Wharf area in London?

On the safety issue, BA is not crime-free, but it is like any major city in the world. Keep your eyes open and don't do stupid things, and you should be fine. Same goes for NYC, London and Paris.

exactly.

From Puerto Madero's official website... (http://www.puertomadero.com)

In november 1989, one century after the first inauguration of Puerto Madero, a trascendent institutional fact takes place for its urban transformation: the creation of the Corporación Antiguo Puerto Madero S.A.

The City Hall of Buenos Aires asked for the cooperation of the City Hall of Barcelona, in the framework of the agreement suscribed between both administrations in 1985. The result of this task was the Strategic Plan for the Antiguo Puerto Madero, produced in 1990 by Associated European Consultants (Joan Busquets, architect, and Joan Alemany, economist). This proposal took reference in the european experience in this type of port recyclings, and the way they affected big cities.

The proposed program consisted of:

· 3.033.505 sq mt for building at the east of the docks, distributed into: 55% of third uses, 37,3% of residence, 3,3% of commerce, and 4,4% of equipment. The adjacent band to the waterfront was dedicated to high density residence; the mixed third was located adjacent to the docks and the intersticial space between both bands was reserved for medium density residences. The Dock 1, apart from the general system of bands, was proposed as an exhibition center.
· 60 hectares of green areas.
· The creation of a Central Park in correspondence with the axis of Avenida de Mayo.
· Parking places in two levels in all high density blocks.

This port area was designed by Eduardo Madero in the 1870s to handle the 30,000 ships per year that were coming into Buenos Aires. By the time it was completed, it was already inadequate... growth continued at an amazing pace. In the 1990s, what were abadoned warehouses were recycled into expensive office space & high-end restaurants. It is just the tip of the newest neighborhood in Buenos Aires & even has a bridge by Santiago Calatrava.

Now it's very modern and it has won many awards

Oh no, they are actually gonna be taller!

The Faro Towers are 170 mts tall but they don't have the tall structure renoir has on the top.. and renoir will have 46 floors just like faro.. so I think it will be 175 or 180 mts and 160 mts the shortest.. but with the pinnacle more than 200 mts for sure!

I can certainly vouch for the fact that Buenos Aires is probably the safest city on the planet. For a city of that size (C14 million inhabitants) there are a surprising small number of incidents. Most other cities of comparable size have countless occurences every day! There is a very low incidence of alcohol or drug related crime and people can walk the streets at night. :)
