It appears that they ahven't started construction....the skeleton of the cancelled Westin Hotel project still hasn't even been demolished yet.

:eek: What a radical design. Very interesting, i like it... Glad that they will continue with building a Westin. True, they have yet to demolish the abandoned initial structure.

I love the glass surface...and the fact that it's uneven makes it looks better i think. Can't wait to see it at night, just like in the illustration

Btw, from the rendering, the building doesn't look tall.

oops , you're right. in that case, it may contain the hotel after all.
Just that its always been marketed as 'Westin Residences' (=apartments) rather than hotel.

cool design but do you notice that the design of the building almost look the same as PEARL GARDEN APARTMENT (check out my threads)

Westin Hotel - Jakarta, Indonesia

A 45 storey 300 room business hotel, plus 100 apartments located on the upper levels.

The tower is designed as a series of large sticks made of glass stacked on top of one another to form a sculptural composition. The hotel sticks have a north-south orientation to minimize direct sun to the rooms.
Double height glass boxes slip in and out of the lower levels to form space for boutique shopping and restaurants.

cos just look from the rendering the skeleton right now same as the base of the westin tower (rendering) the one on right (higher)

and also the skeleton if u notice the position is slighty to the right (as shown in the rendering) (the westin tower higher one) i guess that to the left of the skeleton will be build the shorter tower

CONFIRMED: the left office tower has been 'chopped off'...and to add salt to the injury, the project has been "rescheduled", no wonder they havne't demolished the old structure.......

I think it looks better without the office tower to the left. At least now, the hotel and the apartment guests will enjoy their swimming in their privacy.

well, 45 storeys might include 5 levels of basement, and who knows they might have not included all floors which has a "4" in it (superstition). So overall it may just be about 35-40 storey high...and if one storey = 3m, then that's about right = roughly 120m tall..

This new design reminds me of the Westin in Charlotte, NC, USA.

If you take a look closely, the building comprises of at least 22 sticks glass boxes, stacked on top of one another, and each boxes is two storey, with simple math you'll get 44 storey (+1 floor underground = 45 storey).

Woow... that looks very impressive!! I'm glad Jakarta will have such a bold and interestinga hotel architecture..

err.. no no.. that's not part of d project actually.. they're built by another developer i think.
yah maybe later for the pix, waitin' till it's utterly finished.. (gak janji yeh..;)) pretty busy with school lately..
since it's a massive project, it's divided into phases.. but i don't know how many towers they gonna build at first..

we always discuss whether the building will be different from the rendering, but, aside from the fact that it may not be as cool as the rendering (as in the Peak, for example), they're always pretty much faithful to it.. :)

the construction seems going very slow yah,, kok gak jadi2,, kan udah cukup lama padahal,, menara satrio aja bntar lagi uda mo jadi,, kmrn aja uda tinggal finishing gt,, apa jgn2 nih proyek statusnya jadi on-hold?? soalnya fencenya udah gak ada tulisan banner2 the westin nya geto deh,,

yupe, I heard the news that
westin hasn't really decide yet on the purpose of the building
they were told to become an aparment, hotel or office space.
probably, those might be the reason they are slowing down,
yet westin's logo isn't on the fence anymore.

according to a property market report, Westin hotel is not scheduled to enter the market till 2009...so that may be another possible reason.

FYI, proyek ini oh-hold.. soalnya developernya kan salah seorang kerabat milyuner..beberapa waktu yg lalu wafat..sekarang di"waris" ke anaknya.. sedangkan anaknya masih ragu2 buat ngelanjutin proyek ini..

well, if anything, the premium hotel market is becoming saturated now..tourism numbers is stagnant but the number of 5 star hotels keep on increasing...with Ritz Carlton Pacific Place, Kempinski GI etc. Westin might think that the hotel market is becoming overcrowded...

i believe the developers are still thinking about what's best for the building...it may be that they will make it a hotel after all.

yupe, I heard the news that westin hasn't really decide yet on the purpose of the building
they were told to become an aparment, hotel or office space.
probably, those might be the reason they are slowing down,
yet westin's logo isn't on the fence anymore.
confirmed.

The owner keeps changing the design based on his survey. Well, THE MAN traveling quite lots.
and from the designer; they are in designing an office concept :yes:

Currently, the construction is working on the wall...,
Long way to completion..., and still at this time the owner can change the concept,

The way I see on the design: its possible to changes (sorry, no pic)
The way I see on the business: :righton:

My opinion: It is already 4 of high-end hotel near by: Grand Indonesia, Grand Hyatt, Mandarin, and Nikko Hotel.
I don't think it's about demand...
It's about prestige... that creates up-scale demand.

But then, let's wait a few more time to get exact.

I thought you were bringing good news, it s a pity they cancelled again , so this mean that Westin doesn t come to Jakarta after all. I like Westin hotel it s a pity they left this property.

it's most likely on-hold. the premium hotel market is getting crowded. Conrad was planning to open in SCBD next year but has now postponed...wait and see how Ritz Carlton Pacific Place performs before they make any decisions. I think it's a wise move. Hopefully Westin will get converted to another function ...

Yes, I wish it would be still the Westin Hotel or changed into the W Hotel, the Peninsula Hotel or Plaza Athenee Hotel. At least, it is completely converted into a Westin Residence.

well, i think a lot of property developers were rushing in at the time to get a slice of the cake...the ones that arrived late (or took too long to get their acts together) must now put their projects on-hold or sell them off...e.g. The Icon, Westin.

I don't mind the belated projects are sold off as long as the new owners are better than before or at least same level as previous ones. The Icon is a good example as the new management is St Regis. The same thing should apply to other abondoned projects like Westin and BDNI Tower.

The Peninsula, Raffles Hotel, the Fullerton, the Luxury Collection, the W, Banyan Tree, Taj Hotel, Conrad, Trump, Plaza Athenee, Bvlagary, Palazzo Versace, Armani .. please come..... and do something for my city skyline.

So is it on-hold or cancelled?

Geeezzz, when I see BUNDARAN HI area, It will be the nice new clusterized skyline ....... Seeing around Bundaran HI, also reminds me that Jakarta is really the city of U/C site :D ...

udah kalah power nih proyek dengan proyek grand indonesia

Easy guys, lately we got a bit economic storm right, this also effect the developer, which must concentrate to their 'other' business.

It may postpone abt 2 month maximum, maybe less.
It definitely still will finished in middle of next year,
And Indonesia's economic growth is still working as predicted. :D

diledakin aja bikin baru yang lebih tinggi....hahahahahah

this building is so expected, yet so problematic hahaha

i went there last week, sadly i have to say, it really hard to tell whether the construction has been stopped or still in progress.

coz the main cranes have gone, all the signage and safety have been removed, no kibble, chute, etc etc.
but i stood there for 5 - 10 minutes and actually saw the lift moved up and down, but i hardly see consturction workers anywhere else. and if you notice there is still a small sized crane for material and window pane glass.

hmm... hard to tell.

Well, according to a credible source, the developer estimate this building to complete in mid to late 2008 with new name "Thamrin Nine Office Tower".
Why I didn't see any excitement from you guys?:?

I assume this project might completed at the same time with BCA Office Building & Kempinsky residence of GI, maybe faster.:nuts:
Do you see the wood skeleton installed on the north side??
I'm quite sure it is meant for a floor mockup, it's on 7th storey if I'm not mistaken

As far I can see, BCA office & Kempinsky only accelerate it's mask.
