HT February 27th, 2005, 09:29 PM Best European Skyline is definatly Frankfurt!!
La Defense is nice too and these two towers will bring it closer to the greatness of Frankfurt.
Gotenks February 27th, 2005, 09:38 PM Great news for the best european skyline :)
Don't be so chauvin ;)
Yea Frankfürt is really great too, London will be amazing soon with LBT.
Phobos February 27th, 2005, 09:51 PM I love Tour T1,it has an incredible elegant design.Tour Granite is also nice, but seems to be bit boring from some angles...hope I am worng :)
Turbosnail February 27th, 2005, 10:11 PM Great news for the best european skyline :)
You would say that - you're French. Frankfurt's better.

 :eek2:
Matthieu February 27th, 2005, 11:28 PM I love them two, with CBX soon finished. We'll have no real future project. Let's just hope they'll anounce new projects.
chex February 28th, 2005, 12:01 AM i like tour granite more than tour t1... great projects both, for a great skyline...
Bender February 28th, 2005, 08:05 PM Under construction?
Granite : the groundbreaking has just started
T1 : They need to demolish some old building first.
Max the Swede February 28th, 2005, 08:13 PM Great news! Hopefully I´ll be able to visit my favourite city soon! =)

noRTH1212 February 28th, 2005, 08:59 PM Im sure London is a european city, so why isnt that the best european skyline? have you seen what we have to offer......?
Come on. Paris has one of the best skyline in the world, and you want to campare it to London skyline? NO CHANCE. BTW London is one of the BEST city (as a city) in the world.
IGH February 28th, 2005, 09:01 PM elletijanii> your picts are nice, but does canary wharf looks like that today? No! So don't compare La Défense skyline as it is now with what could be Canary Wharf in the future to say it IS (present) the best skyline!
Phobos February 28th, 2005, 10:05 PM btw... I love Tour Granite !!!... who's the architect ???
If I am not mistaken it is a project by Christian de Portzamparc.
eXSBass February 28th, 2005, 10:31 PM FFS, can't we just agree all the skylines are great? That way no one argues and the French can get on with the construction.
Here's a little London friendliness.
Good on you France. You really do deserve it and the towers look fanastic. Keep up the good work and in time you'll be known for beauty and skyline.
As for Frankfurt, well done. You guys made a nice move in making a well distinguished skyline in Europe. You should be proud.
London, we need to move from the boxyness in Canary Wharf but it's not at all too bad. The city of London looks good when all the projects go up, especially London Bridge Tower.
Remember competition is healthy. It's a race for no.1 skyline between
France - La Defense
Frankfurt - (What's it called?)
Moscow - Diamond Towers
London - Canary Wharf
London - City of London cluster
(Bearing in mind London has two clusters)
Once again France, well done. Nice elegant towers.
Dubai-Lover February 28th, 2005, 10:44 PM good looking towers
a nice addition to la défense :)
kazpmk February 28th, 2005, 11:03 PM Wow, I've been waiting for those towers to began construction. It is great construction finally began. Both designs are very impressive and will make La Defense much more impressive. But I have heard many different height figures.
For T1 Emporis and SSP changed the planned height to 225 m/ 738 ft. Did developers change it back to 185 m? That 185 m height is also shorter than the origional planned height of 187 m. At 225 m it will be the tallest building in France; at 187 m it will be the tallest building in La Defense( 3 way tie); and at 185 m it will be the third tallest building in La Defense and the fourth tallest in France. Which height is the correct one??
For Tour Granite there has also been a few different height figures. The origional design was at 183 m/ 600 ft. Emporis and SSP later changed it to 180 m/ 591 ft. Which one is correct. I know 3 meters isn't a big difference but 600 ft just sounds taller than 591 ft.
Whichever heights are correct for the towers, they will be a huge addition to the Paris skyline.
Chad March 1st, 2005, 02:36 AM gRRRRRRRRRRRRReeeeetttt!!!
1st Division Marine March 1st, 2005, 04:00 AM nice looking skyscrapers can't wait to see them get built.
IGH March 1st, 2005, 10:29 AM To kazpmk> the exact height figures are 185m for T1 ans 183m for Tour Granite (as mentioned above, this is definitive figures)
Nacho_82 March 1st, 2005, 01:11 PM and your point is...?
I like T1 better :)
Grygry March 3rd, 2005, 02:57 PM Where will T1 e located?
I think Granite looks great, but is a real mess considering it breaks one of the two perspectives of La Defense. (when you arrive from Rueil Malmaison, the avenue is in the axis of the twins Societe generale towers. It is a real shame to destroy this to put a big building in the middle. 50 m east it would be superb! :ohno:

nukey March 3rd, 2005, 11:56 PM Congrats to what most definitely is Europe's best skyline/cluster!
Two very nice towers. As a londoner I am continuously frustrated by the inability of the Isle of Dogs to produce any buildings of interest in the way that La Defense does so regularly, although the rest of London has incredible projects they are so diffuse. Anyhow, may Paris' tallest suburb go from strength to strength!
hellolazyness March 4th, 2005, 12:03 AM Yeah, the place is really great and it is nice to see some progress after the relative stagnation we have seen there. Hopefully there will be more on the way, and taller!

Phil March 4th, 2005, 10:48 AM Yeah, the place is really great and it is nice to see some progress after the relative stagnation we have seen there. Hopefully there will be more on the way, and taller!
Yeah, taller would be cool, but actually there was no "stagnation" , why do you think that ? Except in the mid 70's, they never built more "tall" towers in LD than they did in the last 5/6 years.
Bender March 4th, 2005, 07:19 PM These 2 new towers are not that bad for old Europe.
I'd trade them for one 350m with no hesitation. They are OK but insignificant compared to new buildings being built everywhere in the world. We deserve better (and taller!!)

The highest in La Défense are the "Total tower" (Oil company - 190m, 184m to the structure roof):
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/1329/p12200100zi.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
and the "Areva tower" (nuclear power and electricity transmission & distribution company - 190m, 184m to the structure roof):
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/5228/areva37rp.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Then, you'll find the "Gan tower" (Insurance company - 179m):
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/3720/p12200034di.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
So the two new tower will be respectively #3 and #4 highest in La Défense.
The highest tower in Paris is the Montparnasse tower (210m):
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/1083/montparnasse9nv.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
We also have a useless steel structure (320m high), called the Eiffel tower:

That was a while ago. The construction permit was even published but finally the construction got cancelled :bash:
le lyonnais du 81 October 4th, 2005, 07:48 PM but now the director of la défense say who go rlance a project of new tower of 400 m
Phil October 4th, 2005, 07:52 PM He never said "400m", did he ?
they want another major landmark blabla which will probably be really tall tho, but how tall ? nobody knows.
bread_n_butter October 4th, 2005, 07:53 PM "but now the director of la défense say who go rlance a project of new tower of 400 m"
huh ?
Bender October 4th, 2005, 11:00 PM "but now the director of la défense say who go rlance a project of new tower of 400 m"
huh ?
:D
sorry, I think he meant something like "the director said he would launch again a project of a new 400-meter tower"
AMS guy October 5th, 2005, 09:11 AM He never said "400m", did he ?
they want another major landmark blabla which will probably be really tall tho, but how tall ? nobody knows.
La tour sans fin is gonna be reborn? :runaway: Would be wonderful! :D
axa will start to be reclading in 2007.it is the time for axa come in an other building near la défense(nanterre)
The new design is great, but I wonder how they want to adapt it to the tower, as it has a totally different shape. Must be quite difficult to do.
jesarm October 8th, 2005, 06:40 AM i really love this tower, special t1, it looks impressive and innovating tower in the last renders
jesarm October 8th, 2005, 06:41 AM when will this tower be completed?
SC_91 October 8th, 2005, 12:06 PM the 2 towers are completed in 2007

T1
dannykylaw October 8th, 2005, 03:25 PM the 2 towers are completed in 2007
Both towers are really completed in 2007? I seen those workers are
still doing the foundational work in the site. I doubted that both towers can be finished in 2007 ? The first tower with more than 200m ? Tower are stunning !
Cyril October 8th, 2005, 03:35 PM Granite will be completed in late 2007. (according to a fresh newspaper article)
T1 (the render above) will be completed in early 2008).
SC_91 October 8th, 2005, 04:06 PM oups sorry for the bad year
Phil October 8th, 2005, 04:59 PM That long ? darn... Granite will probably rise above ground before the end of the year, I didn't think it would take 2 more years to see it completed. I hoped we would have them completed before mid 2007 for granite and around early 2008 for T1. Anyway, guess i was wrong , they're still nice tho :)

NEAR TO T1 AND GRANITE CONSTRUCTION
The Seine-Arche district under construction, but it is a waste of space in this part of Paris, near to the first buisness district of Europe (La Défense) because they build low rise buildings whereas it is a very beautiful place for high skyscraper but, luckly, the new project of La Défense 2015 will change that, in the other part of La défense, with the construction of many towers between 400, 300 and 250 meters...

eXSBass July 26th, 2006, 02:22 PM I love the T1 tower. It's elegant and looks very light despite being made of concrete and steel.
Nice to see Europian cities steeling some of the attention from the big names like North America and Asia.
Tricky July 26th, 2006, 03:03 PM Not bad design. I do disagree with an earlier post in here saying that La Defense is a great place - it's only great from the distance. Other than that it's just a concrete jungle with out flair / atmosphere. Centers like London Docklands or even Frankfurt Downtown are more appealing to me in terms of spending time there.

storms991 October 15th, 2006, 01:11 AM beautiful... just plain beautiful. unlike Dubai, Paris's skyline is dominated by structures of pure quality, not quantity... Beautiful. maybe what London'd skyline will look like in the near future.

sharpie20 January 17th, 2007, 02:27 AM Is it safe to say that la defense has the best skyline in all of Europe??
Rizzato January 17th, 2007, 02:47 AM Id have to say its close between Frankfurt and la Defense, but Im no expert.
anyone got any info about the height of these two cities' towers? I really have nothing to base the size of the buildings against so height is a mystery.
eddyk January 17th, 2007, 02:36 PM T1 Towers cladding is fantastic with 7 exclamation marks!!!!!!!
All those who hate it are stone cladding huggers.
Bender January 17th, 2007, 08:25 PM No Frankfurt is still much better.
Paris will get Generali, new Axa and Tour Phare. If Frankfurt does not build anything above 250m in the meantime, then we can discuss.

Krys January 29th, 2007, 03:54 PM Hi dear guys...
I finally had a bit of time to spend around la Defense and went to shoot some of the towers. It was unfortunatly too dark to spend too much time... I wanted to go around a bit more, but, that was already too late. Anyway...
Here are my pics... dated 27/01/01 the cranes were being lifted a bit, and tested...
