This week, though its still tuesday, has been a historical week for the small State of Qatar. Record breaking deals and partnerships have been made with world majors like ExxonMobil, TOTAL, and Shell to provide energy solutions to the world. Here is just a bit of the different deals, and trust me, there is more to come.

QP, Shell, huge petrochems deal
Qatar Petroleum and Shell Chemicals have signed a letter of intent for the development of a huge ethane based cracker and derivatives complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. The complex will produce cost competitive petrochemicals products to be marketed into primarily Asian growth markets, with a start-up date early in the next decade.

Rasgas, Belgian LNG accord
Qatar's Rasgas II project has signed an accord with Distrigas-Europe for the export of LNG to Belgium, reported agencies. The deal covers the export of 2m tonnes a year of LNG via Zeebrugge terminal in Belgium from the Gulf state.

Qatar, Total, ExxonMobil LNG
Qatar has signed LNG deals with Total and ExxonMobil for the Qatargas II project. Total is to invest USD3.5bn, including USD1bn for a 16.7 per cent stake in the second production unit, and buy 5.2m tonnes a year from the project for 25 years. The second train is to be 16.7 per cent owned by Total, 18.3 per cent by ExxonMobil and 65 per cent by Qatar Petroleum, reported Reuters.

USD7bn Shell, Qatar LNG deal
Qatar and Shell have signed a USD7bn deal to ship natural gas to North America and Europe. The Qatargas 4 project involves development of upstream gas production for 1.4bn cubic feet a day from the Qatar North Field, and a 7.8m tonnes a year LNG train.

USD12.bn Qatargas II for UK
The foundation stone for the USD12.8bn Qatargas II project which will export LNG to the UK was laid yesterday. Qatargas II is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil with first deliveries scheduled for 2007-8. The project includes construction of two of the largest LNG trains in the world.

These few days Qatar's hotels were busy with signing cermonies. People like the president of Shell, president of TOTAL, VP of ExxonMobil all taking part in or more deals.

WOW, Qatar is really booming. That is more than 22 billion dollars in combined investment. For a country with a small population such as Qatar, that is AMAZING. Correct me if i'm worng, but wasn't your country's per-capita income somthing like 30,000 dollars or so?? It's probably jumped even higher in the last year. Surely Qatar is catagorized with the world's super-rich nations.

That's really great for Qatar.
I read in CIA World Factbook that Qatar has a GDP per capital of $21,500 but it's a 2003 estimate. I'm sure this number grew much bigger last year with the super high oil prices.
This small nation is growing really fast and I read somewhere that it will have the biggest GDP per capital in the world by 2010 or so.

Yeah Qatar is reaping the investments in Gas. I just hope they don't repeat the mistakes of their neighbours' 6afra.
