Each tower is beautiful, but they make up a colorful wall when they stand altogether. They should have been built a little far away from each other.

^^ Put a layer of fertile land over the sand and continuosly water the aerea with a network of plastic tubes sunning beneath the grass or around the tree cores, leaking contimuosly drops of water. All this combined with sprinkles watering thrice a day.

This is in the corner of The Downtown near (almost behind) Millenium Tower

dubaiflo
December 4th, 2006, 11:58 PM
maybe it is the climax tower, or the Emaar office towers?

we need to create a Downtown plot map or at least i need to update this one here. damn.

AltinD
December 5th, 2006, 12:18 AM
^^ The cranes have EMAAR logo on them so can't be The Downtown Tower by Hydra Properties.

If by Emaar Office Towers you are refering to the all-glass ones designed by AEDAS, it can't be either, becouse they will be located on the other corner of the site, on BD Business Hub, facing the 1st Interchange.

i thought this is the location shown in the photo?

but from Burj Dubai i realize now further to the right.

that is probably Residences phase 3 then.

Was wondering, could someone point out all the new towers on szr near millenium tower? Also correct the mistakes, I know Altin said one of the towers is in the wrong place.

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1992/bigfatmapqh1dm6.th.jpg (http://img237.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bigfatmapqh1dm6.jpg)

AltinD

^^ malec

- AEDAS towers in Downtown are the 2 side by side plots right in front of BD and not in the back of Business Hub, facing the Interchange; other towers are there.

- Millenium Tower is not on the same level as Falcon and Nuaimi, but further back.

- Lam Tara towers are not angled but the shorter one right behind the tallest one that faces SZR

- Between Nuaimi and Dubai towers are two plots and not just one, so you have to remove the Al Sharq from there. One of those two plots, the one near Nuaimi is u/c now but no details.

- Tiara United Towers are in front of BB's Prism and Regal Tower, further back from SZR as Millenium is and they are not parallel but one (I think the right one) is even further back.

malec, i was on google earth the other day and noticed there aren't any 3D buildings for Dubai. Is there a process you have to go through in order to add buildings? Were you ever planning on adding some of your creations there. I know most cities in the US now have at least so so renderings. Your work would be a great addition. Thanks

If Sheikh Mohammed has only achieved 10% of his vision and his SZR is part of it, he's gotta be thinking of towers as far as the eye can see in that perspective.

The string of skyscrapers keeps getting extended

  :ohno:   "SO cool"
What do you think? There are 30 million people living in NY, and it is one of the wealthiest city in the world. You got the tallest, isn't that sufficient?...or maybe you already know that China is immediately going to break this stupid height record?!
I watched the Dubailand video: it starts with many pictures of Dubai put together, and when the camera zooms out, all those pictures together make...the picture of the cheikc's face :scouserd: ! He wants the tallest, the most, the biggest, the fanciest, the deepest, the widest, the est est est...:ohno:
This is all ego-driven megalomaniac affairs.

if you care that much that i am solely using 10 seconds of your stuff to promote Dubai without making ANY money with it unlike you.. well i can remove it.

apart from this .. no offence to you but there are by far worse people outta here when it comes to steal stuff other people created .. look here...

This is not a question of money, but I just want to know if someone gave this 10s video to you or if you took it on a website (I wanted to know who or where). For the money, someone is making money on my shoulders in dubai with this job, so it was a question, and if you want you can use it.

I am looking for direct owners of 1 or 2 BR apartments in any of the towers on SZR. Am interested in renting there from now, will pay for one year in advance. Please no agents, I really don't want to go through real estate agencies, I am sure there must be private owners out there. I am Western European, serious offers pls call me on 050-2989663.

There are NO PRIVATE owners on any of the SZR towers. You MUST go through Real Estate companies.

Dusit set to expand into serviced residences
Staff Report

Dubai: Dusit is set to enter the rapidly expanding residence/serviced apartment segment as part of its expansion with three projects in Dubai including one in Dubai Marina and the other on the Palm Jumeirah, an e-mailed statement said.

These include the Dusit Residence on The Palm which is intricately Moroccan-inspired in style and comprising 180 two bedrooms, three bedrooms and townhouses.

These private residences will offer an ideal location in one of the world's most dynamic new tourism and residential developments.

The Dusit Residence at Dubai Marina is strategically located and overlooks the marina itself and provides direct access to the promenade.

A total of 151 units includes penthouse suites and one- to three-bedroom apartments, with a complete range of food and beverage and other complete hotel-style facilities and services.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Facilities

The Pearl Coast Premier Hotel Apartments, which opened in early 2007 and is ideally located off Shaikh Zayed Road, provides convenient access to the Mall of the Emirates.

Consisting of 48 fully-furnished one- and two-bedroom apartments, and with a rooftop pool, fitness centre and Dusit Gourmet, it is already a popular destination for both short- and long-stay guests.

Dusit's entry into this expanding hospitality sector perfectly complements the company's expansion into the Middle East with its hotel brands.

Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, Dusit Hotels & Resorts has signed with DAS Holding to launch the Dusit Thani hotel with 593 rooms and suites, complemented by over 400 apartments by Dusit Residences, to offer a stunning complex of over 1,000 accommodation options.

The development is strategically located on Abu Dhabi island in front of the Al Jazeerah Sports Club, and only five kilometres from the International Exhibition Centre.

Modern food and beverage outlets, a full health club, the Devarana Spa, swimming pool, meeting rooms suitable for conferences and small seminars, and a dedicated club floor with executive lounge will ensure guests are provided with everything they need for their Abu Dhabi stay.

Dusit's entry into this expanding hospitality sector perfectly complements the company's expansion into the Middle East with its hotel brands.

Dusit Thani Public Company Limited currently comprises three hotel brands: Dusit Hotels & Resorts, the recently launched Dusit brand extension, D2 hotel + resorts that opened in Chiang Mai, and Royal Princess Hotels & Resorts. It also operates its own signature Devarana Spa.

I can't help but notice how much Dubai's skyline (at least it's profile) bears resemblance to Lower manhattan in the 1930's. Each were characterized by sharp rises, sort of like stalagmites (or tites) Also, in each case, most of the buildings went up in a short period of time.

On thing is for sure: The new tower under construction (last 6 posts) is NOT Al Sharq, since the main contractor is DCC and they aren't qualified enough to build such a complicated design.

On the other hand, this is what I found:

DIP awards office tower project worth Dh.200 million to DCC
Sunday, August 26, 2007

The construction contract of Dubai Investment Properties (DIP) LLC Office Tower in Business Bay district of Dubai has been awarded to Dubai Contracting Company (DCC), a major international construction company in Dubai.

The project involves development of a luxurious forty five storey commercial tower, with a separate fourteen storey car park and two basements on Sheikh Zayed Road. The Investment and Marketing Manager of DCC, Wissam Otaky, said "The DIP tower is a great addition to our projects portfolio, and provides office space solutions with premium quality finishing."

The commercial project will spread over an area of 70,172 square meters, and will comprise of the latest and state-of-the-art technologies, meant for business purposes with supreme functionality, without any kind of compromise on elegance and aesthetics.

DCC, along with Arkiteknik International Consulting Engineers, who are also the architects behind projects such as the Twin Towers Deira, Flora Creek, and the Grand Hyatt Dubai, will together carry the project forward. The tower is in preliminary stages of construction and is due to be completed by 2009.

I have been to Dubai some 6 times in the last 12 years. I do not live there, I never did, and I strongly believe not to be biased.

Here is my view: historically (and that means some 10 years ago in the Dubai context), almost all tall(er) buildings were rather ugly, but sort of neutral and predictable. As the place kept developing, more and more buildings started to be "adventurous". Most of them, sadly, not very classy - but than again, one cannot expect high end buildings at the beginning of some major economic / conceptual leap.
As time went by, first classy buildings started to creep in and now I would say, some 50% (recently completed / or under construction) are really good. One can claim that 50% is not enough, but I strongly believe that this % is rapidly increasing.

In short: design-wise, Dubai is certainly not there yet, but it is quickly getting there.

Marco Polo

wanted to update the park plaza thread but culdnt find it...so here...from WSP's website:
Acoustic consultancy throughout development of new tower, Dubai
WSP is providing full acoustic design and consultancy together with a suite of engineering solutions for this 62 floor tower in Dubai

The Park Plaza development is a 62 floor tower on the Sheikh Zayed Road. It incorporates residential accommodation and offices, and there will be an adjacent car park building which will house a roof-top pool and gym.

WSP Group business has been appointed to provide a full range of Engineering Consultancy services, including MEP and Structural and Fire Engineering, throughout the design of the development, from Schematic through Construction.

WSP Environmental has been appointed to provide full acoustic consultancy services for the development. These include environmental, architectural and building services acoustics during the Schematic and Detailed Design stages, site inspections during construction, and acoustic commissioning surveys prior to hand-over.

During the schematic design stage of the development we undertook a baseline noise survey. This fed into the design of the façade system and provided both formal and ad-hoc advice on the design concept.

During the Detailed Design stage WSP will provide advice on the proposed scheme, including the specification of sound insulation criteria, building services noise emission limits, and speech intelligibility and reverberation time criteria.

In delivering our acoustics advice WSP are working closely with the client and the architects, Woods Bagot. The full range of services WSP offer is helping to ensure an integrated design solution for the Park Plaza development.

I think the Rolex Tower thread for some time was converted to Park Plazza but when it was clarified that Rolex Tower was indeed to be build, it was converted back and it seams no one thought to open a separate thread for Park Plazza as proposal.

Beautification plan unveiled for Sheikh Zayed Road

Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to expand greenery and introduce beautification along Sheikh Zayed Road, the main artery of Dubai.

The programme will include the widening of pavements and the use of water elements.

"The plan is to widen the pavement in the immediate vicinity of towers, with a view to creating a pedestrian zone with trees and terraces for coffee shops and restaurants," said Nabeel Mohammed Saleh, director of the roads department. "The project also includes introduction of unique aspects of architectural arts to open courts such as stereographs, water elements, illumination, greens, shaded sitting areas, jogging tracks, and other elements capable of providing a live and highly attractive atmosphere; rendering a special and unique style for that area which will be thoroughly upgraded."

Approximately US$23 million will be spent on the project, the RTA said.

The project, which starts in May, is part of a master plan by the authority to enhance the appearance of Dubai roads and squares. The plan also aims to improve the pedestrian experience in Dubai, Nabeel added. This could be achieved through providing an attractive setting in the parking spaces, public courts and paths for pedestrians and cyclists, he said.

Work is expected to start in May.

The Monarch Dubai showcases luxury and form at ATM

http://i25.tinypic.com/2e0iyoh.jpg

With the arrival of this year’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM), The Monarch Dubai, Dubai’s newest luxury hotel, is set to showcase the intimacy and personalisation that is earning its reputation and fast becoming a landmark of Dubai’s hospitality industry.

* United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, May 06 - 2008 at 15:55
* PRESS RELEASE

ATM is the Middle East’s leading travel and tourism exhibition dedicated to unlocking the business potential of the pan Arab region’s tourism industry.

Now in its 15th year, ATM, taking place May 6 – 9 at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre, is expected to attract around 23,500 industry players and leaders from over 100 countries.

Located at the premier location of One Sheikh Zayed Road, The Monarch Dubai is positioning itself as a luxury hotel with a difference aimed at business and leisure travellers.

General Manager Henning Fries says: “The Monarch Dubai differentiates itself from other hotels in the city by providing dedicated personal service consistent with its underlying philosophy of being a hospitality industry leader”.

“With a staff: guest ratio of 3.5:1, higher than many leading hotels, we are more than ready to exceed our guests’ expectations,” he said.

“For example, the superb fine cuisine soon available in each of our restaurants and lounges can become a private banquet served in the guests’ suite by their own private butler who is on call 24/7. Personal trainers are on hand in the lavishly appointed gymnasiums to provide wellness assessments and individual fitness plans, while exquisite massages unique to The Monarch Dubai in the Middle East are on offer from the world-leading Mandara Spa.”

The 33-storey hotel has 236 rooms, suites and serviced residences, with some of the city’s most luxurious accommodation provided by The Monarch Suite, Sky Suite, two Presidential Suites; eight restaurants and lounges, full conference facilities and select retail outlets.

Dubai: The first regional two-tier road is due for completion in the next couple of months.

Approximately 70 per cent of the upper level of the Financial Centre Road is finished, which is part of the Ras Al Khor project.

The project involves the construction of a flyover across Doha Road, with three lanes Jumeirah-bound and five lanes in the opposite direction. It will provide links to new projects such as the Burj Dubai, Dubai Mall, Business Bay and the Dubai International Financial Centre.

Two underpasses will also be added to accommodate traffic coming from the eastern and western parallel roads at the intersection with the Doha Road.

The outbound bridge from the first Shaikh Zayed Road interchange towards the Burj Dubai/Dubai Mall will also be completed from September.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first interchange on Shaikh Zayed Road (ex-Defence Interchange) is also 40 per cent complete, and will form the biggest flyover constructed by the RTA.

This project links Shaikh Zayed Road with the upper and lower decks of the nearly completed Financial Centre Road. An underpass will link the road behind the Mazaya Centre to the road behind the Shaikh Zayed Road towers.

When finished, it will complete the sixth and final phase of the Ras Al Khor project, which includes the construction of 14km of roads from the Beirut underpass to the first interchange of Shaikh Zayed Road.

Completion of this project will be synchronised with completion of the Financial Centre Road project.

The SUMO building next to Shangri-La Hotel tower is an empty shell now and the area around is boarded up. The demolishing is eminent.

I don't know if that one or a different design, but I guess we shall find out soon.

BTW there used to be another identical building just next to it, but it was demolished to make room for the Shangri La Hotel.

I haven't seen any proposals for the "Sumo" buildings either, though they have been vacant for ages!
