Inspired by the thread about Croatian Infrastructure (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=178591) I though I would start one similar for Denmark.

This is for all things like:

Motorways and other roads
Railways
Airports
Bridges and Tunnels
Shipping, Ferries and Sea Ports
Energy

I'll start by reposting some posts from various infrastructure related threads to get it started.

Passenger Rail

We have 2 large passenger train operators in Denmark, the huge old one DSB, and Arriva. There's also a number of smaller railtracks with locally owned trains, but I wont show any of them now.

Lets start with Arriva.

http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/trains/arriva.gif

They operate on a number of the tracks in Jutland. They used to use some old trains of DSB, but they got new ones recently.

Class: CORADIA LINT 41
Number of sets: 29
Year in service: 2004
Max speed: 120 km/h
Power: 630 [kW]
Producer: ALSTOM, Salzgitter, Germany

(from www.arriva.dk)
http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/trains/arriva1.jpg

http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/trains/arriva2.jpg

Class: MR (old ones hired from DSB)
Number of sets: 15
Year in service: 1978
Max speed: 140 km/h

http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/dk/private/Arriva/AD_MR4099_Thisted2.jpg

And now DSB

http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/trains/dsb.gif

DSB still operates most of the Danish railnetwork, and they have tons of different trains. I'll just show you some of them.

DSB electric trainsets:

Bridges and Tunnels

(edited for photos)

The longest bridge first (by span):

The Great Belt Link (Storebæltsbroen) is be the biggest bridge complex in Denmark. It consists of 2 bridges and 1 tunnel, and connects funen and zealand (18 km), and it was built in 1988 - 1998.

The 3 parts are:

The West bridge: Combines road and rail, 6.611 m.
The East tunnel: Rail only, 8.024 m.
The East Bridge: Road only, 6.790 m, but with a span of 1.624 m (currently 2. longest in the world). The 2 pylons does each reach 254 m above sealevel.

Øresundsbron between Denmark and Sweden:

Total lenght is about 16 km. It consist of a tunnel and a bridge. The tunnel is 3.5 km and the bridge about 8 km. There's a small island between the bridge and the tunnel.
Built in 1995 - 2000

Farøbroerne:

Connects Sealand and Falster and consists of 2 bridges.

Lenght: 1.726 m and 1.596 m
Built: 1980 - 1985

Storstrømsbroen

Locted just east of Farøbroerne we find this one.

Lenght: 3.199 m
Built: 1933 - 1937

Sallingsundbroen

Bridge in the northern part of Jutland.

Lenght: 1,717 m
Built: 1973 - 1978

Vejlefjordbroen

Bridge crossing the Vele Fjord, just outside Vejle.

Lenght: 1.712 m
Built: 1975 - 1980

Den Nye Lillebæltsbro

Car only bridge that connects Funen and Jutland.

Lenght: 1.700 m
Built: 1965 - 1970

Svendborgsundbroen

Connects Funen and Tåsinge (small island).

Lenght: 1.216 m
Built: 1963 - 1966

Den Gamle Lillebæltsbro

Also connects Funen and Jutland, rail and car bridge.

Lenght: 1.178 m
Built: 1929 - 1935

Some extra steel from the construction was used to built a 175 meter observation tower in Odense, but it was blown up during wwII:(

Langelandsbroen

Connects Langeland with Siø.

Lenght: 774 m
Built: 1960 - 1962

Dronning Alexandrines Bro

Connects Zealand and Møn

Lenght: 746 m
Built: 1939 - 1943

And the proposed Bridge between Denmark and Germany:

Fehmern Belt Bridge

Facts:

19 KM long
It will have 2+2 highway and 2 rail tracks.
It will take about 7 years to build, 2008-2015 is what they work with right now.
The price will be some 4 billion € (but it will probably end up being more, as projects this big often are)

These are the longest bridges here, but there is a lot more smaller ones.

(also some info in the Danish Bridges (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=123873) thread:) )

Operations 2004: 50.827
Runways: 1 (3100m)

Denmarks 2. largest Airport, Billund, is still very far from cph. They also had an increse in number of passengers last year though.

Most of the traffic are to foreign destinations, only 159.193 passenger on national routes in 2004.

Billund airport opend a new termanal in 2002, replacing the old one. Their rutenet (direct flights to the red dots):

Aalborg Airport (http://www.aal.dk/)

Information
Passengers 2004: 643.970
Opetations 2004: 23.147
Runways: 2 (one asphalt 2650 m and one concrete/asphalt 2650 m)

3. Largest in Denmark is Aalborg Airport (I actually though it was Århus). In 2004 it had a total of 643.970 passenger, which is a small increse from 2003. Their new terminal opened in 2001.

Their routenet is quite small, they only have:

Aalborg - Copenhagen
Aalborg - Billund
Aalborg - Oslo
Aalborg - Helsinki (via Olso)
Aalborg - Kristiansand
Aalborg - The Faroe Islands (summer route only)

Århus Airport (http://www.aar.dk/)

4. largest in Denmark is Århus Airport (http://www.aar.dk) with 524.506 passengers in 2004. That's a decrese from 2003 on -9,5%. The decrese is mainly because Ryanair closed their Århus - Stockholm route. The airport is also located pretty bad, some 40-50 KMs from Århus.

Routenet:

http://www.mikaellykmadsen.dk/skyscrapercity/aarhusairport/ruter.jpg

I can't find any images from the airport, but it's pretty old anyway:dunno:

There has in the last years been a lot of discussion in Århus about building a completely new airport. The new one would be located much closer to Århus than the current one in Tirstrup. I doubt it will ever happen though. Here are a few renderings of how the people behind it imagine it:

Yep this first photo is just north of Copenhagen. It's in Gentofte municipality. I've actually heard that Gentofte is building some residentials mainly for immigrants in the "triangle" between the 3 HEAVYLY used road. Now that's just evil:(

Are there any danish Cruise ships? Or does denmark only have ferries?

mlm
March 2nd, 2005, 04:27 AM
Nope I don't know about any Cruise ships, maybe some of the Copenhageners can prove me wrong though.

I'm currently trying to get more information about Ferries here. It's kind of a jungle, since there are a lot of differnet lines. I guess that's no wonder though with 408 islands:) Anyway, it's quite hard to find something usefull...

mlm

Okay the ships will have to wait. Now to something else...

Oil and Gas Platforms

The Danish Energy market is also kind of a jungle, but I found some nice images of Oil and Gas platforms from the North Sea. These are all owned/operated by Mærsk Olie & Gas A/S, which is a part of the huge Mærsk Group. Mærsk was givin the right to be the only operator in the North Sea until 2040 or something like that (only the Danish part of course).

I doubt that. If you look in the background you'll notice some highrise looking buildings. None of those on the Faroe Islands as far as I know;)

But nice photos yes:) I would surely like to see more of the Mærsk ships, some of them are GIGANTIC:D

A bit of news from today on more metro -

03.03.2005

City Council politicians plan to use the proceeds from the sale of local power company Copenhagen Energy on more Metro and less debt

Copenhagen will get more Metro and better maintenance on public buildings once Copenhagen Energy (KE) is sold.

Even if the City Council still has not officially approved the sale of the local energy company to state-owned utility DONG, a council majority has already closed a deal on how to use the pre-tax profit of DKK 10.5 billion, daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten reported on Thursday.

The Social Democrats, the Centre Democrats, the Radical Liberal Party, and the Conservative Party are said to have agreed to use most of the proceeds on the planned Metro Cityring, an underground railway circle connecting most of the city's central train stations and neighbourhoods.

The Liberal Party was expected to agree to the proposal.

The city is to share a DKK 4-billion portion of the Metro bill with neighbour city Frederiksberg, leaving the government with a DKK 9.5 billion bill.

Apart from the Metro, the utility sale will be used to pay down the city's debt and fund maintenance on city buildings.

DSB loses UK deal

The Danish state railway fails to win a contract to run trains in Great Britain

Danish state railway, DSB failed to win a contract to operate rail service on a lucrative route between London and Scotland. British rail company Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) won the contract, announced Britain’s Strategic Railway Authority (SRA) on Tuesday.

As expected, GNER, which currently operates trains on the line, won the contract to run InterCity trains along the British east coast between London and Scotland. According to SRA’s announcement, GNER will pay GBP 1.3bn (EUR 1.87bn) to operate the service.

DSB had hoped to add British train service to its growing list of international railway operations, which include a joint-Swedish rail line between Copenhagen and Malmöand train service in northeastern Stockholm. The railway has also bid on the operation of train service in the Oslo area and is interested in operating in Germany.

From what i could find out, people from copenhagen are talking to the people from Frederiksberg, to find out exactly what route to chose...When they have agreed on that, and a report is expected in the spring, they will start negotiation with the government, hopefully over the summer. The city hopes the government will alow the city to not pay taxes on the sale of Copenhagen Engergy, that the city sold recently, at a price of 10.5 billion. The city wants the money to be used for more metro, a tunnel under the harbour, and a renovation of the schools. If not, the city is only left with about 6 billion. Still, the city is only expected to pay about 4 billion kr. , together with Frederiksberg, so the money should not be a problem. So we just have to wait i guess. Spring is almost over, and i hope the report will come soon...

I think that the one they are going with too. Eventhough the other one might bring more passengers. It need to service more of Frederiksberg, otherwise they wont pay their part of the bill. Anyways, they are still talking, but everything i have seen and read, says that a selution on the rute and the stations should be ready in the spring of 2005...And thats almost over. Could be that they are still talking, because they also need to agree on the financing...Anyway, when they do that, they need to design all the stations completely, alot of that is already done, and in tearms of the government, they have already okayed most of the plans, and agreed to hand over the ownership of Copenhagen Harbour, as their contribution to the financing. The harbour is expected to be worth 3 billion kroner. So i guess if they really hall ass, they could starte late 2005 or early 2006, since this time a lot of the process seams to have been planed in advance...But we might be to optimistic, i dont know...There is more on the city website, including some drawings of the new stations... There was also a new sugustions for the harbour tunnel yesterday, does enybody know more about that??

One of the planed metrostops are suposed to be at amalienborg. That will be pretty close to the bust and parking terminal. But i guess they could move it closer to the habourfront... The project sounds great, and could also work great with the other project they are talking about with a tunnel on outer Østerbro...They could connect those too, and make most of the city free of cars...What also makes this project great, is that it is comprised by private citycins living in copenhagen, and not a buch of landowners from Nordsjælland, who owned all the land that was to be bought by the city...This makes a lot more sence...

The harbour-tunnel especially would be very useful for me. Can someone please tell me about the harbour tunnel? Haven't heard about this project at all.
The harbour tunnel is an old sugestion, primarely designed to rid the inner city of cars. The problem today is, that the very bussy highway, RING 2, goes right through much of copenhagen city, including Konges Nytorv. That means more then 40.000 cars every day, most of whom dint really need to go that way. Its just the fastest. So the solution came to build a tunnel, going right dwn the middle of copenhagen and christianshavn, from the northharbour to the southharbour. About 6 kilimeters.

The current selution is longer, a bit more advanced, and seams to be a compromise of all other previus sugustions. The proposel is a tunnel, from Avedøre in south, to the Lyngbumotervej in north, with a giant hub in the middle. used for a 5000 car parking garage, and a bus terminal, mostly for longhall busses. This solves several problems, in adition to getting the trafic away from the city, most notably the need for more parkingspace, and the need for an alternative, short and easy acces to the new oprahhouse from the city, since the hub would be placed right there. The tunnel would be 10 kilimeters, with several accespoints along the way, in order to leave or get on the tunnel, like little stops along the way. By making the tunnel go all the way to the Lyngbymoterway, they will also rid the need for another tunnel on outer Østerbro, as some have been talking about, and still make Østerbro a lot more quiet and free of cars. And by making it go all the way to Advedøre, a lot more people in the subs can use it...

I hope this explains it a little. THe confusion right now is big, and nobody seams to know what project is the best...I dont know how you danish skills are, but you might wanna check out the link i posten in an answer a few day ago from DR televesion. They are the only once who has been mentioning the new version of the project, and they explain it pretty well...If you undersand danish, that is...

cphdude, thanks for all the info on this!

Does anyone know where and how many on/off-ramps there will be? (if it gets buildt, that is) Or maybe that's not decided yet?

Depending on the actual length of the tunnel, i would say 5 or 6, both against the city, and against amager. One in each end, Avedøre and Lyngbymotervejen, one in the south harbour and one in the north harbour, plus one 1-3 in the city area, mening the oprahhouse/nyhavn, and just north and south of that...That would be my guess, based on what the have talked about so far. Mind you, this is still very far of. We will probebly see a metro cityring before a harbour tunnel. The city are duing some study at the moment, but thay have also alrady decided to build a seperate parking garage for 800 cars at nyhavn, and a mini tunnel from nyhavn to the opera...Both would potentialy conflict tunnel...with the proposed tunnel....Maybe they will come to their sences and build the hole thing at once, but as long as they dont use it to avoid building the tunnel, im okay with it...

Metro line to Copenhagen Airport
23-06-2005

Location and infrastructure:
After nearly two years of construction work, a new metro section from Copenhagen city to the airport has reached a point where a topping-out ceremony is to be held.

The section, which covers a distance of 4.5 km from the existing metro Lergravsparken in the western part of the city to Kastrup Airport will be completed in the year 2007.

In that way the new metro route will connect Copenhagen airport directly with the centre of the city. According to the plan the metro will transport more than 25,000 passengers to and from the city every day.

There will be five stations on the route, which according to the timetable will be a ride of only ten minutes.

I'm guessing this new metro station will be connected to the existing trainstation (last station before the bridge)?

/\ Talking about the station at the airport, right?

If so, yes kind of. The train station is underground, while the metro station will be above ground. But yes, pretty much connected.

Yes, that's the one :)
So they'll at least be close to eachother, even if not integrated into a single transit-node, yes?
Sounds good.

The new airport-metro station passes over the motorway, it looks really cool.

The station itself is actually also partly over the motorway. You can find a bit more HERE (http://www.m.dk/2007). :)

So staning on the platform waiting for the metro you'll actually be looking straight out along the motorway? way cool! :D
/whishes we'd build more subways too ;)

Swede,

Hey, Stockholm has one of the best subway-systems I've ever had the chance to ride in. You should be proud. :)

Oh, I am. It's just that in the part of my life I can remember, there's only been one new station opened. And that one was at the other end of the system. :( ;)

No news on the metro just yet, but the copenhagen group, the one working for a harbour tunnel, said that they have contacted the current mayor, to get a station at the harbour, (where the new royal theater and a underground parking facility in a future harbour tunnel would be), in sted of the planed location at Frederikskirken (marmor kirken). So far the city is saying no, and says that it will be a lot more expensive this way, and that not enough people will be using a station at the harbour. The copenhagen group however says that, the studdy does not take into a count the future tunnel. A tunnel would mean more passengers then at the planede location...The group says they plan to fight the dicision over the summer, to try and influence the plans...
