View Full Version : What's your favorite? 14k March 2nd, 2005, 09:19 AM What is your favorite Miami film? Roark March 2nd, 2005, 10:50 AM Something About Mary...or maybe Caddyshack. south florida dave March 2nd, 2005, 07:51 PM Super Fuzz! https://www.movieposter.com/cgi-bin/showpid.cgi?id=IDSTRING&pid=A70-11044 Roark March 2nd, 2005, 08:03 PM Oh yeah....I forgot about the Ernest Borgnine vehicle...I'll chang my vote to Superfuzz. The Mad Hatter!! March 2nd, 2005, 08:05 PM SOMETHING ABOUT MARY,SCARFACE The Mad Hatter!! March 2nd, 2005, 08:05 PM OR MIAMI VICE WHEN IT COMES OUT south florida dave March 2nd, 2005, 08:16 PM heh, heh, super fuzz is the funk. haven't seen it in i don't know how many years but i used to love it as a kid. i think i still have it on vhs somewhere so maybe i'll bust it out & watch it again sometime. in all honesty, there really hasn't been a whole lot of good movies, imo, that have been set in miami. off the top of my head, scarface might be the best one. caddyshack was good, but i didn't know it was set in miami. or was it just filmed here? rider_of_rohan March 2nd, 2005, 09:18 PM Caddyshack was in Miami?? I didnt know that. I have another really bad one to add to the list though lol, Band of the Hand, that was a great one lol. There is an old one about a giant crab that was filmed on Virginia Key. I think a quality show that was filmed in Miami (and there arent very many) was a movie about reporters, I think it was called Absence of Malice? Aessotariq March 2nd, 2005, 10:04 PM I'd have to say There's Something about Mary was among the better ones that showcased Miami very well. I like movies that are shot in places where I recognize the specific streets, landmarks, and scenery -- where it's fairly obvious that the scenes haven't been shot on a soundstage. Throughout the entire movie I remarked to myself, "oh, it looks like they're on ____ street." A movie that had some good panoramic shots and gyroscopic swoops of the skyline was Any Given Sunday, coincidentally with Cameron Diaz. Content-wise, though, it was a lousy movie. Toucano March 3rd, 2005, 01:28 AM Bad Boys I & II brickell March 3rd, 2005, 06:28 AM Ace Ventura. The Perez Family. Out of Sight. J'Lo can really act. Band of the Hand was a great slice of Miamia from the 80's. Others you might have missed: The Bellboy - 1960 Jery Lewis movie shot at the Fontainebleau Big Trouble The Birdcage Black Sunday - a blimp and the Orange Bowl Curdled - the whole esmeralda villalobos thing form pulp fiction was based on this Hole in the Head - Sinatra on Miami Beach Lady in Cement - hippy dippy 60's fare with Sinatra Let it Ride - great movie for horse betting fans, filmed at Hialeah I think. Miami Rhapsody - Sarah Jessica Parker does Sex in Miami Beach Moon Over Miami - A classic Police Academy 5 Porkys Strip Tease True Lies Wild Things - Neve Cambell... thanks to imdb.com Dale March 3rd, 2005, 07:15 AM Absence of Malice - Paul Newman and Sally Field (1983 ?) south florida dave March 3rd, 2005, 07:26 AM Curdled - the whole esmeralda villalobos thing form pulp fiction was based on this i didn't know that. i'll have to check that one out. Let it Ride - great movie for horse betting fans, filmed at Hialeah I think. i've always liked this flick. to me, it's a classic in its own right with some great quotes, especially by jennifer tilly ("nothing ventured, nothing...ventured.") love it. Police Academy 5 speaking of classics... Roark March 3rd, 2005, 07:59 AM Well...technically....Caddyshack takes place at Rolling Hills Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale (There is no gambling at Bushwood...and besides....I NEVER slice). But the classic scene with Judge Smails in his sailboat and Rodney Dangerfield (RIP) on the obnoxious yacht takes place in Biscayne Bay near Virginia Key...check out the Miami skyline circa 1970's ish.. Also....recently...Meet the Folker's has introduced Ben Stiller's parents from Coconut Grove....and what about Get Shorty? Wasn't he a Miami shylock that ventured to LA? Not sure...but I think I remember that. Also...I saw a trailer for a new Travolta vehicle...that appeared to be a Get Shorty II...or maybe it was Elmore Leonard (or is that Leonard Elmore) adaptation....OH YEAH, how about Adaptation?!?!? From the cat that wrote being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind?!?! Man...I was so unknowledgeable and straight at this Oscar party last Sunday...if they could see me now.... Roark March 3rd, 2005, 08:09 AM I'd have to say There's Something about Mary was among the better ones that showcased Miami very well. I like movies that are shot in places where I recognize the specific streets, landmarks, and scenery -- where it's fairly obvious that the scenes haven't been shot on a soundstage. I'm partial to TSAM because I was Matt Dillions double in a scene that would have landed Dillion on a PETA most wanted list. Dillion's a smart guy to put the low budget local guy in to deflect the heat!!!! Tivo you'll appreciate this other bit....I was in George Clooney's Out of Sight....the days I worked were on Brickell (701, I think, the brown buliding on the NE corner of Brickell and 8th.) where the floor was designed by CARLOS ZAPATA! That is the genius behind the Publix on South beach, Lincoln Road and lots more. That was a great movie...J Lo was excellent and there are also scenes from Michigan....my homeland...a movie near and dear to me...that Brickell scene is great. rider_of_rohan March 3rd, 2005, 05:11 PM Dale yes that is the movie. Whats the name of that aaarrrnold movie where he fights on a harrier jumpjet on brickell? that was such a bad movie lol but there were the views. I would have to say most of the movies filmed in Miami are stinkers, but hey such is life. brickell March 4th, 2005, 07:02 AM that was True Lies. I forgot about adaptation. Great great film. Not a whole lot of Miami in it though. dave8721 March 4th, 2005, 04:11 PM And dont forget the classic Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise. Supposedly set in Fort Lauderdale but with lots of scenes in Miami. dave8721 March 4th, 2005, 04:13 PM Or the cheezy 80's movie Flight of the Navigator. Has some nice early 80's skyline shots in the opening sequences of the movie. VansTripp March 4th, 2005, 04:36 PM Bad Boy I and II Miami Blue Speed 2 Miami Vice Rx727sfl2002 March 4th, 2005, 08:59 PM YOU GOT TO LOVE TRUE LIES ITS GOT ARNOLD IN IT AND ALOT OF BRICKELL SKYLINE SHOTS NOT TO MENTION THE 7 MILE BRIDGE IN THE KEYS RECENTLY TRANSPORTER II WAS FILMED HERE ON THE VENTIAN CAUSEWAY jzquince69 March 8th, 2005, 08:45 PM What a database. Donald Sutherland played Klute in "Klute" and another movie which at least starts off in Miami Bch at the Fountainbleu Hotel in the late sixties/early seventies. Also, what about "Donnie Brasco?" It partly takes place in Miami. Golden Girls was in Miami-- not that I watched that show. What about "Spring Break?" Ft. Lauderdale, right? My Fav's are Caddyshack and TSAM. Aessotariq March 8th, 2005, 09:45 PM The Golden Girls was all right, except that since it wasn't actually taped in Miami and the writers weren't from there, there were a lot of inaccuracies in the story lines. For example, there was an episode where one of the characters asked for directions and the response was something like "at the bottom of the hill," and if you've lived in South Florida long enough, you would know that we don't have hills to speak of. It's flat. :) The story line claims that the show takes place in Miami Beach... have you seen the yard of the house they lived in? I can't picture very many properties on Miami Beach that have single-family homes on that much land that any of the three of them could afford. Here's my favorite major story line flaw: there was an episode that featured Mario Lopez as an "illegal" Cuban immigrant who was a student of Dorothy's (one of the main characters), and the story was that the INS found him and wanted to deport him back to Cuba. If the writers had done their research, they would have realized that Cubans have a special asylum status that prevents them from being deported without commiting a felony. :) But... I digress... nimbyhater March 9th, 2005, 12:33 AM Why is there any argument?! SCARFACE!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest movies of all time! jzquince69 March 9th, 2005, 07:01 PM Actually, Tivo, that house was a prop at MGM in Orlando and could be seen on the backlot tour. I think its been demolished now for a new ride. But I know what you mean about innacuracies. I gotta say: How much damage and cleanup did that scene in Bad Boys II cause on the MacArthur? jzquince69 March 9th, 2005, 07:03 PM Oh yeah, anyone ever watch that show in the early nineties called "Silk Stalkings" with Rob Estes (Melrose Place) and that hot brunette that supposedly took place in Palm Beach? Aessotariq March 9th, 2005, 08:01 PM Actually, Tivo, that house was a prop at MGM in Orlando and could be seen on the backlot tour. I think its been demolished now for a new ride. But I know what you mean about innacuracies.Somewhere I read that the house with the front yard is an actual house in California... Naturally of course, the inside of the house was a set. And yeah, I remember Silk Stalkings... lauderdalegator April 16th, 2005, 09:43 AM All About The Benjamins |
